We first found out about the Pocky & Rocky sequel back in September last year, when it was tentatively titled "KiKi KaiKai: Kuro Mantle no Nazo". Today, Natsume Inc. revealed a new teaser trailer for the game, which now bears the title of Pocky & Rocky Reshrined.
The game follows on from the 1992 SNES original, Pocky & Rocky, in that it is also a 16-bit multidirectional top-down shooter, featuring Pocky - a Shinto shrine maiden - and Rocky, her tanuki friend.
Pocky & Rocky Reshrined will attempt to recapture the SNES glory days with its retro art style and music, while also improving the graphics, controls, and audio. Natsume seem to be glossing over the release of the slightly dismal Pocky & Rocky with Becky on the Game Boy Advance, so let's hope it's better than that.
Pocky & Rocky Reshrined releases on Switch some time this Autumn.

I'll be saying no for the rest of the day, because this has used up all my YES!
As much as I'd rather have a whole new game, this looks outstanding.
@Crockin The article says it’s a sequel!
@nessisonett @Crockin yep, it's a sequel! Although it's sometimes hard to tell with games like this, especially when they try their darndest to look exactly like the original!
This gives me hope that maybe we'll get P&R2 on NSO and I can finally complete my childhood quest of completing that game! No save points was such a killer back in the day 😂
Brilliant, I hope this gets a physical release like with Wild Guns Rearmed and The Ninja Saviors Return of the Warriors.
Oh hell yes, gonna enjoy this.
YES! YES! A million times YES! I hope they have some friends to play as like the sequel!
Great game on the SNES and whether this is a sequel or not, it's great to see this IP make a return. Day One for me.
I hope it’s not another $30-40 release. Their remakes are fantastic but definitely a bit on the expensive side.
I don't know why but this game makes me feel nostalgic even though i can't pinpoint a game like it that I've played.
The music sounds outstanding. And the gameplay looks so fun. Character design and overall art direction is right up my street.
For those interested a game in the series is already on switch. Arcade Archives release of Kiki KaiKai. As for the new game i will be getting for sure.
I loved the original, and I'd been waiting for an update on this. Looking good so far.
Nice really love the old Super NES and GBA games, would definitely give this one a try.
I really liked the first two and this will fill the void left by Goemon's absence. Besides, it's the first game on the eshop that actually looks appealing to me in a long time
I hope improving the controls means adding twin-stick or at least strafing options.
Whenever I see those Pocky candies in Target, I think of this game. I played some of it back in the day, but don't remember much about it.
Sometimes I just throw that game on and listen to the music and watch the intro because it's so badass
@LXP8 You just reminded me of the game that will fill that void even better! You know, the supposedly very Goemon-like game that's supposedly coming out this year, made by pretty much the same guys who made Goemon games back then?

i would do anything for a twin stick control but i don’t think that is happening here.
Ahh! I need a pre-order date!
@KateGray oh cool! I guess judging by what I’ve seen it’s all remastered stuff from the first one, but also I haven’t played it in years
Heck yeah, this looks so cute, and looks like it will be a blast to play with a buddy! Especially with the deflecting technique in the trailer!
I’ve been curious about these two since seeing them as a trophy in Smash many years ago. The game looks good, I’m definitely keeping an eye on this!
Awesome news!! Trailer looks great. Let’s hope for a physical release and whichever way Natsume rolls with it, they should strongly consider tossing in the 2 classic Snes titles!! 😁
I am excited for this, looks great.
BTW, that's ProZD's voice at the end, isn't it?
That pixel art looks gorgeous!
I wish more retro revivals used a high quality pixel artstyle. Actually I wish Nintendo still made games with pixel art!
I love it on SNES and I am a shmuperholic. Day 1 purchase from me.
Add me to the list of people demonstrating good taste by being fond of at least one the the two SNES games. Both Pocky & Rocky games are among my favorite games on the system and Natsume did some amazing stuff back in those days. I'm glad that Natsume continues to revive these old games for remakes or sequels and I assume they're doing pretty well.
Now THAT'S how you do a remake! Preserve the graphic medium, none of this terrible crap that looks like overly crisp, flash animation/paper puppet nonsense. ahem Ghosts n' Goblins
For me Day one, Day two, Day three and the rest of all other days
Sadly I never knew about this series as a kid. By the time I discovered them, the SNES games were VERY expensive, but this I will buy!!! It looks awesome! 😁😁
I'm not even kidding when I say this is one of my top 3 most anticipated games of the year.
I'm very happy that they stick to Pixel Art.
Give me the original to buy before I play the sequel please, or bundle them.
A game I rented from Avenue Video(video & video game rental store)back in my childhood getting a remake...this makes me a happy chap.
@Krisi Oh yeah, that game looks promising so far!
@KateGray Hmm... but is it really a sequel? There’s a comparison video on YouTube and a lot of the stage layouts and enemy sequences seem directly lifted from the original... plus, the Reshrined title lends to this one being more of an extensive remaster, a reimagining, or a remake... or heck, a reboot. But... IDK maybe it’s more sequel-y then it seems and we just need to see more. 🤷♂️
@Sidon_ZoraPrince I had the exact same response!
