I'm delaying a playthrough just waiting for a Switch 2 update.. would be cool if they bumped up the resolution and framerate one of these days, as game is clearly ready (according to data mine) and in need.
I'm a bit worried about Switch 2. Console has been fantastic, and in a way already produced some miracle ports (PC handhelds can't run Outlaws with RT). Money for value proposition is far better then some wanted to present it during release window.. But these non-Nintendo early games are just not that good. It's no system sellers, game key card or not. I feel like Switch 2 in general is going to be judged by 3rd party hyped games turning out to be meh.
As hard of a pill to swallow this might be, I find their explanation to be the first reasonable one. There are ways for Nintendo to fix this down the line (force copying to internal memory for games that require higher storage speed), but I doubt they'll do it. Also, many publishers are just greedy, I find Ubi's to be an isolated case.
As for Steam Deck and Outlaws specifically, it works like c*ap, terrible experience, and read performance might be a big contributor.
@LeJuiceCup I can see how you would feel that way, and it might be true for many.
The way I see it, there always was slop and there always will be. However, history books filter the slop for you, so you only go back to the bangers. There are great games in the moment, but it's understandable there are less compared to the whole history of gaming combined.
Nintendo for all it's faults still produces some of the most fun games ever. And the other 2 players are not as bad as pessimistic public opinion would lead you to believe.
As I kind of move on with times older games have fallen off my drives. However, I believe DK has earned it's place in my current platformer HoF/coming back to games. There are only 3 members (Odyssey, Astro Bot, and Bananza), but each has it's own unique charm.
Yeah, I was interested but this has changed my opinion. I understand game key card when space is an issue. However, it's a 5 GB download, that could have easily been fitted onto a cartridge. Every company has a choice to cut cost on the expense of the end customer for as long as they want and are willing to risk user backlash. I think this is the point of that backlash for Square Enix now
Disappointed by Direct, but Octopath Traveler games at least are basically guaranteed quality. I'll be trying out demo if they release one, and I'm very probably getting full game. Rest was very mediocre :/
Yeah, still waiting for my copy to be delivered. I'm happy it's a great game, it'll still be great in a few days after I finally receive it but damn, I can't wait!
Mr. Miyamoto testing DK games is always a story that ends up shaping end product. Not sure if people remember, but there is a famous story about how he crouched and moved left and right in the corner of the map.. and that is how DK got it's famous roll to make mechanics more fun and unique. Love to see it.
The irony of that being stated by a person who's games I would primarily classify as art before most others is not lost on me. But end of day, he is right, games are products. Most of art are products, aimed at certain subgroups of society, it's what ensures visibility and exposure..
@Metazoxan I really don't want to take discussion further, but it is absolutely not the case that early adopters of electronics should have always expected issues and faulty units. As somebody who has been in the field for over 30 years I can tell you that it is a fairly new development relatively speaking. And given how complexity of devices has increased dramatically, it can be excused to a degree. But this is just a rushed case, piece of plastic that is incorrectly molded. Not a 4-nm transistor. It hit market incorrectly molded due to greed, not altruism, as dBrand wanted to be the first and ride new console release hype. The fact they are giving free replacements is admitting guilt and saving face for future products. I'm not venting frustration, I'm just presenting things as they are. You could get almost any other grip case for your Switch 2, and for it to provide more reliable grips for your Switch when used in portable mode. Also, almost all of them will dock at the same time using official dock. That leaves benefits of Killswitch 2 very limited in comparison.
@Metazoxan I'm not saying majority of cases is not fine. It probably is. And I'm not going on a campaign against anybody. It's just unreasonable stretch of cognitive dissonance to jump from majority of units is not broken to they apologized and offered replacements making it perfectly fine. Products in electronics have just became so unfinished and broken that people are just accepting it. Let me ask you, if you were buying rims for your car, and small double digit percentage of rims were falling off when driven under certain allowed mileage, causing car losing control, would you rate rims 8/10 "would buy again"?
I'm a bit baffled by a product that has been called out (and proven) multiple times as being non-functional in it's primary purpose, getting an 8/10 rating. Setting aside it's public darling dBrand, product just doesn't function in a significant percentage of units. If it was a different brand, we'd all be dishing it.
I got one of 256 GB cards as a temporary solution, but will be getting a 1TB option once they become more affordable. If not, my ISP will not be pleased with the amount of times I've redownloaded same games 😀
As an AI sceptic I do believe a lot of people get alarmed for potentially no reason. There are applications in game development that can benefit from using AI (for example, generating asset variants) and have done so for a long time. On the other hand, using AI to generate valid code or even whole games.. good luck with that vibe coder. May the odds forever be in your favor, although I doubt it.
Don't wanna generalize, but there's been a few ex Nintendo ambassadors or social media personalities who have quite obviously changed their stance toward company once they were.. fired. And I get it, but if you wanna do journalism you're suppose to be realistic. This doesn't sound like it.
Maybe the reason might be the fact that there are no new games? Just guessing, but it's mostly older games that have been free on services elsewhere. Without guarantee these games would ever get to Nintendo hardware, most people just played/bought them on a different platform. How many people will double dip for an old game on their fancy new console?
I don't find poor sales of such games surprising at all.
Seems like a different time, different Nintendo. I can't imagine such a weird gaming marketing campaign being done by any of the big three today, least of all N.
Cyberpunk ended up being awesome game, but unfortunately I won't be double dipping as I have a physical on PS5. If it was released cross platform now, I'd get a Switch 2 edition though, as I would love to play it on the go.
There has been so much whining about nothing around Switch 2 launch, it just goes to show how entitled and negative people have become. Not to mention how same things are positives and negatives at the same time, depending on the device being considered..
I don't think it's supposed to be niche by design, but as long as it has Windows under the hood with a fresh coat of paint it won't become mainstream. There are just too many issues and inefficiencies that can't be hidden through launcher. SteamDeck/OS is getting all of the linux benefits for free choosing to build on top of it, and potential SteamDeck 2 I believe could be something for Nintendo to keep an eye upon. But Windows based stuff, naaahh
@JokerCK that is exactly what it is. But, I've been trained to ignore such slope, and it's giving me hope that 3rd party devs will heavily stick with Switch 2, which is really the only thing I care about.
Changed a lot for me. I got a few games as presents a while back, and then went on for like 6 months now without buying a full priced game (previously I would by one a month). Also, outside of couple of Switch 2 exclusives and Ghost Of Yotei I think I'm good for the rest of the year too. Backlog is getting revisited though
@JohnnyMind not sure no crossplay is such a big deal. Game failed on other platforms, active community is not that big.

Just wanted to point out that while indeed it is 8 sec improvement, there are other variables to take into consideration. Firstly, it's already about 33% faster compared to S1. Secondly, that grows larger, as the actual loading screen is significantly shorter on S2, as before and after animations are highly dependent on location, probably can't be shortened even if they are not being used to load 100% of the time, and I doubt Nintendo would change them due to impact on "user experience". So yeah, in general jump might be far more than 8 seconds.
Performance really caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting it to be as powerful, especially with these early ports (devs didn't have long to work on dev kits). @Ironcore I had to go back and double check, but yeah, LM3 was DigitalFoundrys most technically impressive game on Switch and they commended it for steady performance. However, at the same time, game seriously stutters on unoriginal hardware/emulators, so might that be your issue? @Swhite29s I'd prefer a Blockbuster. They could do rooms/areas based on movie marketing materials..
@Ironcore the way it looks, 30 is a miracle on Switch. And while I personally have issues with 30 FPS action (first or over the shoulder perspective, quick reaction time) games, LM3 is really not one of them. No one can genuinely say they failed at LM3 due to framerate...
I don't have a preference, but I so hope they make another one. LM3 is one of my favorite games from Switch generation (excluding "unattachables" like BotW, TotK, Odyssey, ...).
@Ironcore maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I don't recall serious performance issues in LM3?
Shocked and amazed.. Square Enix is happy by sales of any of their products! Truly, the doomsday is coming. (as somebody who likes their games and ends up owning most of them, it is really depressing how they paint each one product in negative light and brand them failure, while I happily play them and use to hope for a sequel)
Astral Chain 2 is among the very top of my wishlist for Switch 2 exclusives. That game was so underrated and deserved far more praise for combat and visual design on a limited platform as Switch. Keeping Taura with new studio at helm for the sequel would be awesome, especially so as I feel PlatinumGames has lately done many moves that are "good for business" but in factuality are bad for studio's health, and my level of confidence in them has fallen significantly.
Seems reasonable.. last week money people thought S2 reveal was lackluster without surprises and stock took a bit of a hit. This week it became obvious steady and continuation of what was before is exactly what most of 150 million users wanted, so stock rebounded..

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush (Switch 2) - DLC That's Ripe With Fun, But Could've Been More
Not getting it, it's just too expensive and a line needs to be drawn. However, base game is amazing and worth the price tag (for those in doubt).
Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Prices Are Live, And It's Sticker Shock Time
Yeah, I'll pass. As much as I wanted Galaxy 2, that is just absurd amount of money for a 15+ years old game.
