Re: Samsung Shows Off Its Switch-Inspired Foldable Handheld

Cikajovazmaj

Can't shake the feeling this rush concept exists solely to fill for a more concrete patent, so nobody else can create a foldable screen on a gaming handheld.
But, I agree with @MrGawain that it's just inventing a problem so you can use your useless solution for. It literally solves or improves nothing, just making it flimsier and less reliable.

Re: Talking Point: Where Should 'Luigi's Mansion 4' Take Place?

Cikajovazmaj

@Ironcore I had to go back and double check, but yeah, LM3 was DigitalFoundrys most technically impressive game on Switch and they commended it for steady performance. However, at the same time, game seriously stutters on unoriginal hardware/emulators, so might that be your issue?
@Swhite29s I'd prefer a Blockbuster. They could do rooms/areas based on movie marketing materials..

Re: Astral Chain Director Seemingly Forms New Studio After Leaving PlatinumGames

Cikajovazmaj

Astral Chain 2 is among the very top of my wishlist for Switch 2 exclusives. That game was so underrated and deserved far more praise for combat and visual design on a limited platform as Switch.
Keeping Taura with new studio at helm for the sequel would be awesome, especially so as I feel PlatinumGames has lately done many moves that are "good for business" but in factuality are bad for studio's health, and my level of confidence in them has fallen significantly.

Re: Random: PlayStation's Astro Bot Director Pays Tribute To Mario And Nintendo In GOTY Speech

Cikajovazmaj

Classy move. Not sure why some people hate on Astro though, that game is clearly inspired by 3D Mario as any 3D platformer is (that tends to happen when you CREATE a genre, ask Metroid and Castlevania), but it adds a lot of it's own. Also, Nintendo just couldn't pull some of it off with it's current hardware, as Team Asobi 1uped big N and copyrighted game to it's own platform mechanics. Astro would for sure lose a score point if it wasn't using DS mechanics and PS5 wasn't strong enough for some playful effects (physics).

Re: Random: Metroid Prime 3 Dev Left Retro Studios After "Unhealthy Relationship" With Nintendo Micromanagement

Cikajovazmaj

"but it didn't turn out great because some shoulder pad was shifted slightly" - arguably it turned out great exactly because shoulder pad was shifted slightly to serve IP, instead of doing what was easier.
Attention to detail like that are what makes the difference and makes Nintendo the king of polished experiences.
These tradeoffs are sometimes hard, but it takes knowledge and experience to understand what exactly is important in the shipped product, and usually it is details not appreciated by implementers (no disrespect).

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

Cikajovazmaj

Most likely caused by next Nintendo system being completely backward compatible Switch 2, as in a regular console lifecycle usable emulators would start popping up just in time as the system is getting retired. However, if same platform continues to live on and be commercially viable, big N needs to control the piracy more so than usual.
My personal opinion, I have nothing against emulation, used it myself for legacy systems as it's almost impossible to get to working hardware for a reasonable budget. As long as you own the games, it's not piracy or illegal (no law preventing you running cartridges on whatever you want).

Re: Tales Of Kenzera: Zau Studio Is Reportedly Facing Layoffs

Cikajovazmaj

Kind of expected this to happen. I've played through the game and it had interesting setting. But gameplay/progress/combat was most generic of generic metroidvanias. It was just so by the numbers, no mystery or discovery challenge. I'm sorry, but in a market full of good metroidvanias, there was just nothing to separate it and make it stick out.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want Quality And Performance Options For Nintendo's 'Switch 2' Games?

Cikajovazmaj

I understand most people won't agree, but I find these "options" terrible. First off, it absolves developers of responsibility for one of the modes not working. Not completely of course, but what would be considered an unplayable game automatically becomes "but yeah, the other mode is decent enough" thing. Secondly, I've been a PC gamer for decades and switched to consoles exclusively because I did not want to choose, tweak, optimize, and then compare results to my friends/co-gamers. Make the game work, and make it work the same for everybody, leveled field. If there are "modes" like resolution, these should be applied automatically based on output/TV, gamer should not have to care about any of this.
(I understand one can choose not to care, but we all know that is not a realistic option.. Apple has made billions removing the choice from otherwise overzealous users)

Re: Rumour: Xbox's Hi-Fi Rush Will Reportedly Launch On 'Switch 2'

Cikajovazmaj

For people doubting, Hi-Fi Rush is definitely worth the wait if you can't play it on another platform already.
Gameplay is genuinely up Nintendo's alley, and something Switch audience would appreciate. I wouldn't call it a 10/10 game, but it's probably the most fun (equals best for me) game MS produced over the current generation.

Re: GTA 6 On 'Switch 2' Would Be "Very Tricky To Pull Off", Says Digital Foundry

Cikajovazmaj

@CheapCheepBeach my assumption is based on AMD cards, that are a huge chunk of market, not having viable RT support until this year. Everything up to latest generation on PC basically brought FPS to twenties with tracing. Last gen top of the line AMD hardware in 2026 will be 4 years old, and it seems really aggressive not to support it.
There is also a curious case of Steam deck, where I believe a PC game should definitely target that hardware if in anyway possible (and would really need to have a good art/design reason not to).

Re: GTA 6 On 'Switch 2' Would Be "Very Tricky To Pull Off", Says Digital Foundry

Cikajovazmaj

While I believe Switch 2 doesn't need GTA6, nor does GTA6 need Nintendo user base, and truly loving Digital Foundry in general, this was one of their most useless analysis.
I understand trailer uses a lot of RT, but realistically solution will have to be worked out as this game is eventually going to ship to PC market (and high RT capable graphics is not going to be a minimum requirement). It's just too early to do such guesswork.

Re: Poll: Hasn't Nintendo Always Been An 'Entertainment' Company?

Cikajovazmaj

I always thought of Nintendo as a toys company, and I believe that is how they billed themselves previously.
That is where they operation has originated from and what defined their games as "special". Nintendo games have always been toys player can experiment with and get excited about unexpected outcomes, getting more out of experience through imagination. There is an old interview with Shigeru Miyamoto talking about how his game testing process basically involves using the game as a toy, where he tries to do with a game what a kid in a literal sandbox would do with new figurine...
