Re: Trademark Application Has Fans Dreaming of the Nintendo 64 Classic Mini

ChessboardMan

If such a thing is coming, I would like to see a couple of the slightly more obscure games come to it, like Blast Corps (yes, I know it was a Rare game, I'm just saying what I would Like to see) and Body Harvest. I had almost all of the Nintendo classics, and even have updated versions of some of them (I'm looking at you Zelda 64s).
But the biggest problem I see is the controllers. The N64 could take 4 controllers, which many games taking full advantage of this. It needs to allow for 4 controllers, even if it doesn't actually come with a full set.
Anyway, it'll be a long time before we'll see this materialize, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Re: Beach Buggy Racing Screeches Onto Switch Next Week

ChessboardMan

Hmmm, seems a bit much for a game that is free on mobiles. But the game doesn't look terrible, maybe there'll be an advantage to the game on Switch, like how that music game is free on mobiles, but has everything unlocked on Switch? I won't hold my breath, but if it reviews well enough, it might pop up on my radar.

Re: Former Project M Devs Unveil Icons: Combat Arena; It Sure Looks Like Smash Bros

ChessboardMan

I also have mixed feelings… I mean, they have a few carbon copies in there of arenas and fighters, unless the characters have other differences not shown, looks a bit too close, as in, Nintendo takedown imminent too close. I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise, since previously they were modding one game to be another previous iteration of the game, but they need a bit of courage to make it a bit more original. As it stands, it looks like Smash Bros with new art, which is especially worrying when they don't own Smash Bros.
But then again, it's free to play, so you get what you pay for…?

Re: Weirdness: Mobile App 'Final Clash' Confuses All With Zelda: Breath of the Wild Footage in Trailer

ChessboardMan

See this kind of thing far too often. One mobile game used footage from the Legend of Korra game in their trailer, though they did have the bright idea of pasting their own virtual button interface over the top. Another game used Blood Borne promotional art to promote itself. I also remember ads that used Street Fighter or Soul Calibur fan art to promote their three kingdoms or Greek mythology based game.

Re: Implosion is Bringing Sci-Fi Hack and Slash Action to the Switch eShop Very Soon

ChessboardMan

@Mr64 Unfortunately, your imagination may be overshooting, as other than controls, it doesn't look like they're changing very much judging from the screenshots in the eShop, which look like the mobile graphics, just really sharp, possibly, which may just draw more attention to its mobile origins. It's also a couple years old at this point.
Personally I'm hoping for more improvements than just physical controls for that price.
The price on iOS is also a tenner I believe, but it has been on sale for a fifth of that in the past.
@MrProzacc I don't think camera rotation is as simple as you imagine. The game was probably made to be viewed from a single angle. They wouldn't have put the time and effort into making the game environments look good from every, or even 'any other', angle. So camera rotation would require all the game's environments to be entirely overhauled to look good from more angles.

Re: Implosion is Bringing Sci-Fi Hack and Slash Action to the Switch eShop Very Soon

ChessboardMan

I'm going to wait for reviews. I already have the game on iOS, it's not bad, but £10 for a mobile port makes me raise an eyebrow. Not helped by the fact their Switch trailer there has No in-game footage and that those screenshots look worrying identical to the iOS graphics.
Personally, I wouldn't want to double dip unless the Switch one has something extra or some solid benefit, other than having actual physical controls instead of "virtual thumbsticks".

Re: Poll: Who Would You Like To See In Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo Switch?

ChessboardMan

This Poll is terrible. It doesn't even include the third party character I want to see make a return: Solid Snake! Of course, Konami being what they now are, they'd probably get in the way of that one. But this poll is still awful. So many missing characters, and so many characters that are really unlikely (That Issac? Really?)
Only a few really make sense, and that's because they're so obvious.
You are going to end up with Others up the wazoo.

Re: Cat Quest Claws Its Way to Switch eShop Soon

ChessboardMan

Hmm, I'm a little worried about how small the player sprite is. Maybe it's because I'm watching it on a mobile phone, but it feels … not right? Maybe it's because of all the negative space? Often a game like this will have a small player sprite, that is overwhelmed by vaste amounts of enemies, or giant enemies; or uses a larger player sprite, with fewer enemies.
It gives the appearance of an over world map in an RPG, which is where you want to see the world around you as much as possible, but details are not important, since no actual combat takes place there. But this has the combat taking place where it is difficult to see fine details. So, I think I'm worried that the small character sprite will make a deep/satisfying combat system difficult to use, especially on the Switch's screen.
But I'll keep an eye out for it.

Re: Rainway In Talks With Nintendo Regarding PC Game Streaming On Switch

ChessboardMan

Could be interesting. I won't hold my breath, but I'll give it a try if it hits the Switch.
I don't think it will make a massive impact, after all, if an indie port is done right, then playing it natively on Switch will have its advantages to streaming it off your PC. But it will make playing certain games easier while in bed, or on my big TV.
It'll probably be a novelty, but probably not a bad one.

Re: Harvest Moon: Skytree Village Gets New Trailer Ahead of June EU Release

ChessboardMan

I saw the (actually kinda nice looking) Special edition, and had been wondering if it was an actual Harvest Moon, or one of the Harvest Moon in Name Only games. Judging by the comments, the latter.
Ah well, let's just hope Stardew Valley arrives soon. It may have been slow to begin with, but the Switch eShop does seems to be slowly picking up pace, with new releases on both Tuesday and Thursday, sometimes even Friday with big releases. And it feels like there is little warning about the releases, just suddenly "And oh, this comes out next week, ok?"

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (Europe)

ChessboardMan

I've got PPT as physical already, and physical Mario Kart should arrive tomorrow. My Switch case has room for plenty of games, and even a few memory cards thanks to a couple Switch cart sized Micro SD card holders; so I don't need to worry about not being able to take my physical collection around with me.

Re: Mr. Shifty Devs Tackling Frame Rate Issues After Initially Suggesting You Should Pick Steam Over Switch

ChessboardMan

@Blizzia I noticed bad slow down in the forest, but not actual pauses of frame rate like in that video for Mr Shifty. Unless those only happened in Docked mode? Mostly played undocked.

Until the day of its release, I was considering buying it right away, but on launch I thought about it, and decided to check Metacritic first. None of the early reviews seemed that impressed with the game, describing it as really short, so I decided to wait.

Re: Video: The Top Five Nintendo Switch Co-Op Games So Far

ChessboardMan

@FNL an 11 minute video where a simple list with a paragraph of text for each would do? Wow, thanks for enduring and giving us the list.
Also… their list includes a game they thought didn't have a great co-op mode? When there are the Neo Geo titles as well? And as someone said, yeah Bomberman's single player/ Co-Op isn't the main focus, but it's still reasonable surely?

Re: Has-Been Heroes Now Arriving in Europe on 4th April

ChessboardMan

Eh, I suppose it gives time for reviews to appear first, which looking at the comments here, is going to work against them.
I would have nothing against buying a more expensive good if it is good, but the way it currently looks, if I want a RPG fix on my Switch, I might as well spend a tenner more for that 'I Am' game.
Mind you, since starting Zelda, I haven't played anything else, on Switch at least. So I'll probably be able to hold out for even better RPG experiences.

Re: Bertil Hörberg Shares Footage of His Next Game

ChessboardMan

It really looks pretty accomplished for a first look. The graphical style works wonderfully, and the gameplay mechanics on display, while quite simple, look very solid for a work in progress. I look forward to what the full game holds. I really hope he completes it, even if he needs to find help to do so.

Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch Upcoming Goodies For March And April

ChessboardMan

@tjhiphop Yeah, the Everywhere messenger bag is great, and will carry everything you could ask for, though some switching around may be needed if you want to carry the dock around And some third party joy con cradles.
Other great thing about it- yes it does come with an extra case for the Switch itself, but you can fit other Switch cases too. I use the Zelda case myself. Means I don't have to worry about the game cases.

@FengLong
I also got the Everywhere bag on launch day, from GAME in store, Despite the fact my mum had preordered it from them online. Unfortunately they really fudged up their orders online, so in the end, I had to buy both the messenger bag and the Zelda case myself, despite being Birthday presents.
My mum Never wants to order from them Again.
