Re: Smash Bros. 2v2 For Glory Exploit Makes Pac-Man Duo Unbeatable

ChessboardMan

I find it odd that this actually works…
Remember the Yoshzilla bug from the 3DS version(not checked if it works in the WiiU version yet)?
Well I discovered that if you take Yoshzilla too big usually that technique, then it KOs him via a ring out because he's too big. Though maybe the fact that the eat move is an attack means it counts as a launch when he bursts out of the egg?

Re: Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (3DS eShop)

ChessboardMan

Well I recently replayed the series on my iPad, so I see little reason to buy this version.
I mean, it might be nice to use the mic to shout objections again, but not That bothered.
One thing I would like to know is if the Vase writing part the Extra court case at the end of the first game, works in this version. On the iPad, and Wii too I believe, it is extremely broken to the point I had to skip past it on the iPad …

Re: Review: Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (3DS)

ChessboardMan

I wasn't impressed by the demo either (even though I worked out it included a race level and a tubular level hidden on the World Map), but my biggest issue were the controls which just weren't quite intuitive enough. They just jumbled every move onto the face buttons, which could lead to the wrong button being pressed, instead of moving some inputs to the Very Distinctive shoulder buttons(which are just used to pan the camera…).
The final score was what I was expecting from the state of the Demo, through reading the review makes you expect a higher score.

Re: Feature: Batman Vs. Superman In The Battle Of The Nintendo Games

ChessboardMan

@sinalefa @BensonUii
Good point, that is a pretty big oversight…
What do you have to say for yourself, NL?

@TheItalianBaptist
Not quite, but it's probably close.
I saw someone do (or rather, start) a lets play of Superman 64, who even managed to get in contact with the lead developer or someone, who seemed to claim that the rings weren't even that big a part of the game, or even that they weren't in the main game at all. I've also heard of, I think from the same lets play, that there's a "Beta" version floating around that, among other things, keeps the rings sections to a practice mode only… maybe they sent the wrong version to the manufacturer? XD

Re: Review: Tetris Ultimate (3DS)

ChessboardMan

I remember one version having a Really interesting mode, where one player was at the top, one at the bottom, and clearing lines made the blocks move up or down, depending on who cleared it, the idea being to force your opponent's play area to shrink till they are defeated…

This isn't included, is it?

Re: Sonic Boom Wii U And 3DS Both Stall Outside Of The UK Multiformat Top 40

ChessboardMan

I tried the Demo for the 3DS version. Feelings like there's a good game there, trying desperately to get out, but the biggest obstacle is the horribly over complicated controls that just felt really intuitive. One big problem is the use of L&R for simply panning the screen, something most people probably wouldn't even touch. If you're just messing up because you're getting buttons confused in anything other than a kind of rythem game, then, quite simply, you've done something wrong with the controls.

Re: Weirdness: Sony Fan Creates Petition In Hope Of Bringing Super Smash Bros. To The PS Vita

ChessboardMan

… they can't be serious, surely? I mean the problems with this idea are endless, including the fact porting games is not an entirely simple process so it would be a while before it would even arrive, by which time everyone has brought it already.
But why choose to do this for Smash, and not the other Ninny games on the 3DS?
Is Smash just the most hyped game ever, or is it a troll choosing the most ridiculously Nintendo game possible to suggest this for?

Re: The Photo Studio in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is Perfect for Comedy

ChessboardMan

Now maybe Nintendo could like… publish the Wii/WiiU Project Zero/FatalFrame games for Western Territories, since they do seem to be heavily involved in the series these days and Koei Tecmo themselves are so unwilling to commit to the series themselves outside of Japan, and the WiiU could do with more exclusives in general in the West?
As I was pretty disappointed that IV never saw a release in the end. I even had a preorder for the game on ShopTo…

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Announcement Revealing its "True Potential" is on the Way

ChessboardMan

@Yorumi I wasn't saying Crunch time is the entire project, and I was just giving a general idea of what can go on during Crunch Time, from personal experience of working at a Video Game Developer.
They actually Were burning game discs at the company I worked at, towards the end of a project, as there can be slight differences between test hardware and actual hardware. The QA team Would be staying Late With the Programmers, so that the software could be tested as soon as the disc was burned(or a new build complied). This is an actual thing that happens. I don't believe I ever said the fixing of bugs wasn't done by programmers, though I did refer to them as Coders, since it is the same thing. A Coder writes code, i.e. The Programming? Occasionally with very Specific bugs you might have a level Designer/gameplay implementer there too, but usually it was the QA team(to test to see if "X" bug is still present in the new build), the Programmers (who will have to have another go if that didn't work, plus they may have a better idea of what is still causing the bug if they see it happen) and the Producers (just to mostly oversee things, and talk to publisher probably)who are there the latest.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Announcement Revealing its "True Potential" is on the Way

ChessboardMan

@ikki5 wow, someone has obviously never heard of "Crunch" time?
Towards the end of game development, developers and testers will probably be there until midnight, with coders trying to fix "X" bug, then a new build needs to be compiled, then a disc burned with the new build, then a tester has to try to reproduced the bug the coder was trying to fix, then finally the updated build can be sent to the publisher for their testing team, and the developers might be able to go home for the night.
If the bug wasn't fixed though, then they'll have to have a closer look, try to fix it again, and wait for the new build and testing.

Re: Bayonetta 2 in North America Comes With a Rather Nice Bayonetta Disc

ChessboardMan

@KodyDawg well… let me put it like this… see her outfit? That's made out of her hair. Also, when you do powerful special movies, you summon demons, that pretty much become physically embodied via your hair, so the bigger the moves, the bigger the demon, the more hair it uses up, and the less hair there is left for your outfit.

… hopefully that gives an adequate picture.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Brings Circle Pad Doom in Japan

ChessboardMan

@Interneto Probably? I was really suggesting that the damage was as much due to age and years of constant use, than directly Smash Bros. Fault. Like Smash was the straw that broke the camel's back. Though, it was probably a straw made of lead, I'd still guess that Smash is only a small part of the reason behind this happening.

Re: NES-Themed Nintendo 3DS XL On The Way as GameStop Exclusive

ChessboardMan

Ok, I can understand the new game themed 3DSs, but the NES themed one, with most 3DS owners looking to upgrade waiting for next year's new model, seems a silly move. If they had used that design as a special edition to celebrate the new 3DS's release, then damn, everyone would be all over it. But most long time Nintendo fans Have a 3DS, so are going to be content waiting for the new model.

Re: Review: Kirby Fighters Deluxe (3DS eShop)

ChessboardMan

Bah, you kids complaining about lack of online multiplayer.
In my day, the Internet barely existed! If we wanted to play multiplayer, we had to go out on the streets, find another person, knock them unconscious, drag them back home, tie them to a chair, wait for Stockholm Syndrome to set in, and then, and only then, would it be safe to untie them and hand them a controller so we could both enjoy multiplayer games.
Yep, those were the days.

Re: Rock Zombie Is Bringing Hard Rock And Side-Scrolling Combat Action To The Wii U

ChessboardMan

I like my mindless brawlers, but that looked hilariously bad.
The only vaguely good thing, is that the trailer isn't actually for WiiU, so who knows, maybe it'll see some improvement by Halloween?
However it does seem to be committing a console beat-em-up sin. All the way through watching, I was thinking "why only three characters? A band can have any number of members, so you'd think they'd include enough for each potential player?"
Then it hit me. This game is single player only.
When you're porting to a console which has such a strong couch multiplayer line-up, then not of including it, in a genre that has always been so much better when played with friends, is either really stupid or lazy.
If they add it, then they'll have a chance of being fun. Within it, I can't see myself picking it up apart from when seriously reduced.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Coming to 3DS in Japan

ChessboardMan

Heh, that's a website, somewhere, that was, somehow, making 3D screencaps of Wii games. One of them was Xenoblade, so I actually have 3D pictures of Xenoblade already, though no idea if the quality of the 3DS version will be the same.
