Re: Random: Mobile Game Spotted Using Official Nintendo Imagery

ChessboardMan

@NinjaNicky There's a bunch of ads one game made where they actually claim to Be the game, and even made themselves game boxes based on the actual game boxes of Age of Empires, to give an impression that they are the modern iteration of the game. It is downright disgusting. It was probably Rise of Empires, but I can't remember.

Re: Random: Mobile Game Spotted Using Official Nintendo Imagery

ChessboardMan

This is nothing new. I’ve seen mobile game “gameplay” ads that paste a fake virtual controller over a video of the Legend of Korra game. I’ve seen a game use Bloodborne promotional art with the darkness turned up. I’ve seen a game promote itself with Chun Li fanart. Some of the people behind these mobile games are just scum. Not all, there are some mobile games that try, but the majority of mobile game ads are trash designed to lower your IQ…

Re: Dungeons Of Dreadrock Brings '80s Zelda-Like Dungeon Crawling To Switch This May

ChessboardMan

I disagree with the “Zelda like” descriptor. As they say in their own description, it’s like a top down of the First person dungeon crawlers… in fact, it looks very much like a rogue type game, but without the procedural generated level (and I assume the usual gameplay loop), instead opting for a more Puzzle like approach. It even looked like enemies might wait for you to move first?
Basically, it’s rogue-like, but not using the usual elements that get picked up from rogue.

Re: Kitsune Tails Is Getting A Prequel, And It Looks A Lot Like Super Mario Bros

ChessboardMan

I feel that the Kitsune Tails Zero is an April Fools, given how they make it practically a 1:1 duplicate of Super Mario Bros. They might still release “something”, but it will be obviously intended as a joke release. It is already April in the parts of the world that inspired this game at least. (Can’t figure out where the developer is based, think they might be an online team with no office location).
The other game looks more legit. Sure it has some similarities to Mario 3, but there’s also some unique elements shown off in the trailer. Also, if you’re going to take heavy inspiration from a game, it might as well be one of the classics like Mario 3.

Re: Gotta Protectors: Cart Of Darkness Coming To Switch, Physical Edition Confirmed

ChessboardMan

@Bunkerneath Just to give you an idea how much more expensive the physical version is:
-On the UK eShop, the version with all the DLC is £22.50.
-The Standard Physical version(which also includes the DLC thankfully, though not sure if they’re on the cart or what) is $40, which is ~£30.
-This price won’t include VAT (another £6) and postage (probably another £10 to the UK, since they’re US based).
-Thus to buy the game physically in our regions will probably cost more than DOUBLE the price of digital.
-Physical isn’t really an valid option, unless we go all out and get the super duper special edition with all the bells and whistles, which is still a much worse deal for us in these regions than for people in the US.

Re: 'Lost' Namco Title That Inspired The First Live-Action Video Game Movie Is Coming To Switch

ChessboardMan

It feels like a video of someone speed running the game is not the best gameplay example. I mean, look how they completely cheese that water level by running on top of the water? And we hardly got to see the bosses? Also, where is the story? I mean, at the end there’s the two bosses, but what was their deal? Who was the guy with spider legs coming out his back? Do I need to see the movie to find out, or is the story explained in game and they just skipped it?

Re: Random: How Many Of These 175 Indie Games Can You Identify?

ChessboardMan

To name a couple not on @Jackpaza0508 ‘s list, the giant bear is from Pit People I believe, and Hyper Light Drift is standing on his paw. Also one of the skeletons in the hole is from “60 Seconds”. Carrion monster by the pizza.
Va11halla, death from Manuel Samuel, Pony Island and Super Hot are all in a clump near the top right. Moonlighter, Runbow, Dust: An Elysian Tail and Flinthook are in a bunch near the centre. Lovers in Dangerous Space Time. Skull girls. A cookie clicker game of some kind? Is there one just called Cookie Clicker? Not a Hero. Slender man. Hot Line Miami. Chroma Squad. Bastion and Transistor with a Slime Rancher reference. Gang Beasts. Machinarium. Horace. Snake Pass. Minit. Very small Donut Country ref with the Castle Crashers knight. Binding of Isaac. Escapists. I think that might be the Knights of Pen and Paper DM by Papyrus? Transformice (forgot the name, had to look it up). Death and Taxes guy with Sans (Hey Undertale, why does your mum let you have Two references?). They Bleed Pixels. Limbo. Friday Night Funkin’. Goat Simulator (by Untitled Goose Game). Wait, oh! There’s McPixel, with the nuke! FTL. Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. Helltaker. One Shot. Stick it to the Man. Duck Game. 2064: Read Only Memories. Papers Please country emblem on wall.
Is that the kid from Little Inferno about to throw toys on the fire? Super Hexagon in the Lovers Ship, on a monitor. Stealth Bas- er, Inc: a clone in the dark. Oh a super subtle reference to Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist, with a tiger warning sign. Passpartout: The Starving Artist, thought I recognised it, but kept thinking the hand was a beak and thinking it must be something else.
Was Spelunker in the list already?

Does anyone recognise either of the fairies? One by Transistor, the other by the nuke?

But yeah, too many to mention.
Kinda wish there was reference to the work of the guy behind Iconclast (unless that’s the character from Noitu Love 2 by the Goose?) or the work of the guy behind Cosmic Star Heroine, but I’ve yet to spot any. But we can’t have everything.

Re: Random: This New Creature Collecting Game Kind Of Looks Like Pokémon With Guns

ChessboardMan

To be honest, I’d be more interested in the game without the guns and Grimdark elements. It looks like they have a beautiful and interesting world, similar to Pokemon, yes, but with a more free feel to it and building and crafting, but the slave labour looks like a poor joke and the gun combat, with real world weapons, looks like a cheap cop out of trying to build a real time combat system and weapons that would really fit in the world they created. The assault rifles, slave labour, and wanton slaughter just don’t fit the aesthetic of the world, and seem more for shock value.

Re: A Super Mario Lenticular Magnet Set Is The Latest MyNintendo Europe Reward

ChessboardMan

Blooming heck, shipping is silly expensive. Worse, with the way they do these purchases, you can’t combine shipping, even though they allow you try. Ordering two items at the same time presents you with a combined shipping of £8 something, where separately it is £6 something each. However, to be able to purchase an item you need to enter in a code for it, and you can only enter One code for each order, so I spent over £12 on some magnets and some postcards.
I’m never ordering physical goods from My Nintendo Store again. They need to combine it with the Official Nintendo Store UK for when you’re in the appropriate place, as I think the shipping would be cheaper and at least then I could throw in some mini Lego sets to make it worth it…

Re: Jaleco's Cybattler Is This Week's Arcade Archives Title On Nintendo Switch

ChessboardMan

@GameOtaku thing is, this is a Japanese developed title right? So they wouldn’t be influenced by Robotech, they’d be influenced by Macross. Though there’s not that much of a Macross influence, with no transforming, and I don’t remember Beam Sabers being much of a thing in Macross.
But Robotech leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth these days, since Harmony Gold uses it as a means to block any official release of anything Macross in the West these days.
