Re: Niantic Is Dropping The Ban Hammer On Pokémon GO Players Who "Cheat"

ChessboardMan

"It isn't cheating, they've temporarily taken down their in game tracking system to help them cope with the large traffic of users, so I used a third party one that causes just as much, perhaps even more, strain on their servers."

This is how it sounds to me whenever I hear people say they've been forced to use third party tracking sites. They're not a solution, they are adding to the problem.

Re: Review: SpaceRoads (Wii U eShop)

ChessboardMan

Yeah, this game seems to be taking Heavy "inspiration" from an old PC game. One that was bundled with old A-drive floppy disks. Named Sky roads or something? The name escapes me right now but I've seen the game sorta recently (they played a Christmas edition of the game on Steam Train last Christmas).

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th July (Europe)

ChessboardMan

Hmmm, might pick up the Layton Movie again (I have it on Blu Ray), but other than that it's deathly quiet…

Can anyone confirm if the Layton Movie is in 3D? For that price… probably not…

Worst thing about that price, is no MyNintento points event for buying it…
:/

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

ChessboardMan

While not connected to Nintendo Consoles (yet?), Undertale was another roaring KS success story.

I think the biggest problem with MN9 was that they kicked off the Kickstarter too early. It was barely a concept, with, apparently, nothing solid to it. They should have perhaps waited until they had more of it pinned down, like the art style, though maybe that was the plan. It just feels that there is little reason, especially considering the money raised, why they couldn't manage to match the concept art a little better.

Like Bloodstained is managing, which also had 2D concept art but is in 3D. But there they are taking every step possible to match expectations.

With Half Genie Hero, they already had an artist, and their art style, lined up ready. What we saw is looking to be what we'll get.

Shovel Knight and HLD had the art as their sellings points, and did not let down visually.

Of course games are not just about the art, but the problem here has been what feels like Purposeful misdirection. They wanted to sell the idea, but seemingly had no intention of matching the expectations set.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th May (Europe)

ChessboardMan

Any idea if that discount you reported last week is going to actually happen this week?
Parascientific Escape Cruise?

Also those Atlus discounts are a bit of a slap in the face. Feels like there's a story behind that rather Drastic Permanent price drops, though definitely connected to the whole NIS no longer having the Atlus connection, it is still a little insane.

Re: JAKKS Pacific Confirms New World of Nintendo Plush Toys and Articulated Figures

ChessboardMan

@GN004Nadleeh you mean, you wish Max Factory/ Good Smile Company would make a Wind Waker Figma? Figma is the toyline.

GSC did already make a WW Link Nendoroid with a WW Zelda coming up too. I doubt they'd do a Figma though, the Nendoroids are already pretty accurate to how the characters look in game. The designs of WW don't really match figmas very well. Figma are GSC's line for more realisticly proportioned characters, while Nendoroids are their Chibi versions, and the WW designs are already pretty Chibi-fied.

Re: Random: Check Out This Japanese Transformable Skell Toy

ChessboardMan

Erm, @MitchVogel , you have a lot to learn about buying Japanese toys...

http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=TOY-RBT-4056&page=top
Amiami ship to the UK, etc, and their price is a Awful lot cheaper...
I'm also guessing this is up on HobbyLink Japan, and any other Japanese store that ships abroad too.

Also, as @luizssb said, this is a Model Kit. Though, Kotobukiya do make some of the best kits out there. Almost no glue required, ever.

Re: Final Fantasy's Cloud Is Set To Cause Some Strife In Super Smash Bros. On Wii U And 3DS

ChessboardMan

This was a surprise, and does not make a lot of sense to me.
I actually forgot about the Nintendo Direct, and only tuned into the last minute.
What I tuned into looked like a joke.

I know when Snake was in Smash Brawl, it was somewhat odd. But for many people, especially in the West, their first experience of the Metal Gear series was on the NES, and there was a MGS remake on the Gamecube as well. He did have a connection, even if not especially strong.
Megaman also kicked off on the NES, so had a strong connection.
Shulk was also odd, but had a strong connection with Nintendo consoles, which was strengthened by the remake for the 3DS.

But Cloud has no connection at all to Nintendo, other than possibly making cameos in some games?
Though if they did produce a FF7 remake for 3DS or WiiU, that would be make this make more sense, and be quite welcome. But it is unlikely. There Is a remake on the way, but Wikipedia seems to say that it is a timed exclusive for the PS4. While that suggests maybe it will grace other platforms eventually in this remake form, it'll be a long time after he starts kicking around in Smash. Most likely it'll hit the NX.

Unless they're making multiple remakes at the same time. Then I'd wager it would be more likely a 3DS release.

But if they can put in Cloud, I demand they put in Papyrus too. And a Sans Assist Trophy, which only actually does something if someone is winning in a big way(i.e. have 'killed' a lot of opponents). Then, Megalovania plays....

Re: Lost NES Title Wonderland Dizzy Made Available For Free

ChessboardMan

@JJtheTexan @brianvgplayer
I had one Dizzy Game, though a bit of an oddity, it was on a weird thing that looked like a Game Genie, and required another game plugged into it to work.
I forget which one of was. All I remember was that there was a leprechaun all the way to the left.
I think the last boss also required a mirror to defeat, but that was from a guide, never reached the end myself.

Re: Octodad: Dadliest Catch Gets A Revised Release Date

ChessboardMan

Ok, for anyone who wants to play this game, I have some Important Advice for you:
Play the original game first. It's not essential, but this game is still pretty much a sequel. The original is available for free on PC from their own website, at least it was when I played it. I believe it was some kind of school/college/university project? Either way, it'll give you a neat introduction to the characters.

Re: Review: Whispering Willows (Wii U eShop)

ChessboardMan

I backed the Kickstarter and played it on PC, but I ended up somewhat disappointed. I was hoping for more emphasis on horror, but there was nothing really scary or even that creepy about the game.

I would adore for a translated version of the Snes Clock Tower game to be released in the West in some form. Or at least for someone to do a game in a similar style to that. That's what I had hoped this game would be.

Re: Review: Hold Your Fire: A Game About Responsibility (Wii U eShop)

ChessboardMan

@alkteriosgames You misunderstand. From the sound of the review your 'simpler' enemies, are among the hardest to deal with. The suggestion to make them move to the sides was to make them easier to deal with, not asking for more complexity. The reviewer describes his experience as having to enter their line of fire to try to deal with enemies, and how this was frustrating to do without getting hit. Sure, you want your game to be hard, but by the reviewers description of it, it starts off too hard.

Re: Review: Hold Your Fire: A Game About Responsibility (Wii U eShop)

ChessboardMan

Sounds like it could have be improved with a few key design changes.
Like having multiple lives.
Having "three strikes against you, and you're out/lose a life".
It sounds like every ship flies in a straight line, right? Well giving them bit of movement to the side would have helped matters somewhat.
And those asteroids sound like they could have done with some tweaking to make it play better.

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox Zero's Delay Could Be The Final Nail In The Wii U's Coffin

ChessboardMan

@Tubalcain You're missing the point entirely. I'm not saying that AAA games are the problem, but how Publishers seem to treat them. Almost every game that comes from a big publisher has to be AAA.
I'm saying that we don't need every game to be AAA, and especially we don't need them being rushed out the door for Christmas.
You mention Arkham Knight, a game that was pulled from the Steam Store as the PC version released was apparently a mess. Phantom Pain was lucky to come out at all, and no matter how much of a success it is, Konami are going to call it a disappointment and shovel dung on top of it.
The problem is not AAA games, but the way publishers treat them. They're the be all and end all now. Every game has to be AAA or else they won't consider making it. Every game has to be a Super Success or else it's a disappointment.

Not every game has to be AAA. Not everyone can afford to buy every triple A title, or even that many of them. Not everyone can even afford every current gen console. Someone without a PS4 or XBONE doesn't really care for about their AAA line up, if they can't afford the consoles, so it makes no difference.

I'm not saying that AAA games are bad, I'm saying they're not the be all and end all. And we certainly don't need them being rushed out the door in unfinished states.

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox Zero's Delay Could Be The Final Nail In The Wii U's Coffin

ChessboardMan

Let's be honest here, this "AAA" nonsense has become something of a plague on the games industry. Publishers in recent times have been pushing way too hard for AAA titles. These days "AAA" is counting for less and less, as publishers make every game "AAA", and Most of the time they're being released as buggy messes. AC Unity for example and its fiasco.
The last AAA title I brought at launch (that wasn't Nintendo) was either Alien Isolation or Evole. The latter was a monumental disappointment, a hideous mess of almost everything wrong with current AAA games. The former was praised by critics and players, but considered a disappointment by Sega.
I saw a recent editorial by Jim Sterling that pointed out that not every game has to be a AAA. More smaller titles may produce a better profit than throwing all their eggs into a "AAA" title shaped basket. I may have not brought many "Big Games" recently, but I have brought many indie and such games.
Yeah, a lack of many new "Big Games" for the WiiU this Christmas may be a disappointment, but if the PS4's AAA games end up being AC Unitys due to be rushed out the door, then WiiU owners won't be the only ones dealing with disappointments.

Re: Reminder: It's Super Mario's 30th Anniversary

ChessboardMan

@Crimson_Ridley They haven't even attempted to deliver mine yet. They're been steadfast in their estimate of Monday so far. Of course, Monday is going to be an awkward delivery day for me, as I'm out for most of it.
Either way, I'm going to be spending this Mario Anniversary writing out a Complaint to Nintendo.

Re: Disney Infinity 3.0's Toy Box Mode Offers Blatant Splatoon Clone

ChessboardMan

@Koopa-King While I'm not sure their reasoning was quite right, I kinda agree.
The Minecraft Mod is available for free I believe, even if the base game is not. It was not done to make a profit, nor to promote a product.
This, while also presumably free, was created to Promote the game. It's saying "BUY OUR GAME! And enjoy this!" It was made to create a profit by convincing people to buy the base game.
It also doesn't help that Disney are rather infamous for overzealously protecting Their Intellectual Property.

Re: Community: Create, Share, Play and Rate Each Other's Levels on Nintendo Life

ChessboardMan

@ThomasBW84 Well I would be making levels, but my preorder from the UK Nintendo Store still hasn't arrived. My delivery estimate is Monday. Very bad form from the Nintendo Store, reminds me what happened with Mario Kart 8. Depending on how wide spread this late delivery is, it might be even be news worthy, though obviously it pales in comparison to GAME's blunder.
Did anyone else here order from the Nintendo Store, and are still left waiting?

Re: 3DS Saber Rider Game Back In Development, Kickstarter Campaign Mentions Wii U, PC Engine, SNES And amiibo

ChessboardMan

Hey NintendoLife, where's a link to the KS page? Or do you feel that the project is too suspect? Or have they yet to start?
I have to admit, having those "Real Classic" goals before the actual current gen consoles, is extremely odd…
Often with a project that is a little too niche like this one, it's better off not to start with so many stretch goals or even start with none and mention them when you actually approach the main goal.
I would be surprised if they have actually fully considered the full cost of many of those stretch goals.

Re: Video: Iron Maiden's New Music Video Pays Tribute To Donkey Kong, Of All Things

ChessboardMan

I got a Turok vibe from that last FPS segment, what with that T-Rex.

Ok, weak connection at best, much like the rest of the video.
The first segment was clearly DK, but well, enough that it was obvious, but then a little jarring with how loosely it followed the well known formula.
The MK one followed the source material a lot more closely, even with what felt like a nod to X-Ray combos from the recent titles.
The contra style shooter… couldn't really place a reference at all.
With this kind of video, I think it's better to follow the reference material a little more closely. Like for the DK one: make the layout near identical to the original, include some barrel jumping.
I mean, I get part of the charm is when Eddie breaks away from the game mechanics to cheat and win, but that only works if they follow the mechanics initially (hence why the MK segment works perhaps the best).
Unless they wondered away from the source material so much to prevent being sued? As Nintendo might not be entirely happy with the tribute…

Re: Gallery: The Yarn Yoshi amiibo Is So Cute And Cuddly, It Hurts

ChessboardMan

@EllenJMiller postman? Nintendo UK seem to use some other delivery service for me, that is hit or miss. I mean, yesterday they followed my instructions to deliver my Wooly World SE just fine, but today they completely failed to deliver my ZS Samus and Dark Pit, even though I was home when they made the delivery attempt. I think they must have pressed the wrong door buzzer entirely. Really annoying, as if they were Royal Mail, I'd just pop down to the Post Depo at my convenience(it's a short walk from my flat). But now I have to hope they don't mess it up a second day…

Re: Feature: Our Impressions of the Full Nindies@Home Line-Up

ChessboardMan

So far I've tried Rive, Forma and EE.

Rive seemed fun enough, but ran AWFULLY on my WiiU for some reason. Could it have been that it was still downloading the other demos at the time or something? But during the Boss it was, well, nearly unplayable.

Forma was… eh. Nice enough, but unlikely to hold my attention for long enough, It was pretty confusing that you had to back track all the way to a door in the first area, with no clear indication that it was open now? And I kinda hate it when demos don't include a boss battle. Do trailers and teasers, sure, but I want a demo to give me a clear idea of how a game plays. Including Boss Battles, since these can make or break a game often.

Extreme Exorcism was a lot of fun, I kept trying it over and over! And that was just by myself, I want to try it with multiplayer too! It's a very fun and interesting gameplay mechanic. Very interested in the final product.
