There's no, I'll repeat, NO way this is the box art. It would be as lazy as not making new games and just rereleasing games over and over again, or at best updating their graphics in order to make money.
To those that might defend it being similar to the Japanese boxart, that was 1996 where it was so incredible to actually have graphics like those in a video game it was borderline miraculous. This is 2023. While the new graphics look great they aren't so amazing that they deserve to be the only thing featured on the box art.
I'll add, 5 years ago you could have purchased this game and 20 others plus 2 controllers and an HDMI cord for $20 more than the price of this game.
I'll further add, this game is great so if you really care about graphics get it, but I'd still prefer a used SNES Mini if I didn't have one already.
I wish I cared more about remakes. I love love love super Mario RPG but recently played it on SNES mini. I love Pikmin, but 4 will be enough to keep me going. Luigi's mansion Dark moon is the worst in the series. Why couldn't they just have done Super Mario RPG 2? It's not like the original had a life changing story, and the obviously took plenty of time to make the new graphics and the sound is amazing.
@Not_Soos Yeah I was really hoping for a true coop campaign like 3 deluxe. My son loves playing that with me and his grandfather. Thankfully he likes the missions too.
My son recently started playing BotW again because TotK is just too scary for him at 5. One thing I noticed is both how quiet, and how aggressively load BotW is. Running around just doing nothing, well there's no music and all you hear are the footsteps of Link (somehow it won best music, I think, even though most the time there isn't music at all most the time?). But when you clear out a mob and earn a chest, it's like twice as loud as TotK. It's just obnoxious because it seems as though there is no in between. I get the point, it's supposed to make it more suspenseful going from no noise to aggressively loud when fighting a guardian or something. But for me it's just annoying.
@Cheez In general I'd say both are a 10 out of 10 when considering all videogames. When just considering Zelda games I'd give BotW 8.5/10 and though I'm not far into it I'd say Totk is 9.5/10. Though, I don't know if I'd give any mainline Zelda's lower than 7.
Already way better than BotW because there seems to be more story in the game and hyrule seems way more alive, the NPCs seem more interesting to talk to. But it's been a few years since I've played so maybe BotW wasn't as quiet as I remember. But during my playthrough I felt like I was mostly just exploring a dead world, not trying to save a living world.
@NewAdvent I don't know what your mean by native Switch game, but it may not count for BotW because it's a Wii U game originally but later ported to Switch for a combined release. That's why Links pad looks like a Wii U in BotW and a Switch in TotK.
@WallyWest they were some of the early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. So, I don't remember the specific sites they were each from but you can check RT for reviews from a few days before the release.
@Ensemen I mean they were early reviews posted on Rotten Tomatoes. The openings of the reviews talked more about their perspective than the movie to a point where maybe it was prewritten and they just added small elements of the movie in once they saw it. Of course there's merit to finding good reviewers you like. Which there are some I trust. But I also want to see what other opinions are. Unfortunately those other opinions seemed to not be based off of the movie as much as based off of their biases. Personally I can say that the plot was mediocre, but the animation was bright and fun. But yeah these people were essentially bashing it solely because it didn't communicate specific philosophies they wanted it to. You could easily apply their reviews to every Mario videogame and decide every Mario game is also horrible because they don't talk about their specific perspectives. All of that to say, yeah maybe I'm unlucky.
@PinderSchloss Yes some critics communicated that, I definitely felt that way. But my kids, who are quite young and one can't even talk, loved it. But 3 of the 4 early reviews I read gave it a bad review because it didn't contain the philosophies they wanted it to. That's what I'm speaking into.
@WallyWest to better explain specifically for you. They aren't reviewing based of of what they watched but whether or not what they watched contained a very specific moral within it. Like if a videogame reviewer specifically said a game was good or bad based on is the game had a dog you could pet. And their reviews went into how bad the game was because even though it was fun and most people would enjoy playing it and it was well produced and the programmers did a great job it's still a horrible game because it doesn't even include dogs.
@Ensemen Yes, I read 4 early reviews and 3 of them said it was a waisted opportunity to teach kids about important ideologies. Not that the ideologies the reviewers wanted we're necessarily bad, it's just they said the film wasn't good because it didn't push their ideologies.
@Snatcher because they use to review movies off of the merits of the film not off of their personal biases. They'd mention good acting, cinematography, etc. In the past if the film was supposed to be a fun children's movie the review would say something like "It's a colorful blast that doesn't take itself too seriously so it will be loads of fun for the kids." Today, for the same movie they will say "It only mostly aligned with my political and social beliefs as well as ignoring the fact that we should be talking about these beliefs with children so it's a bad kids movie. Even if your kids will love it I hated it, so don't let your kids watch it."
I can't believe they turned Toad into a goomba. But that idea of having the lizard people from underground turn humans into fungus, and Bowser end up in Brooklyn. Genius. Can't wait for a sequel to flesh some if these ideas out and tie it back in with Brain Age.
No way this is better than Bob Hoskins Mario. I mean, mix Mario with the Brazil film, and you get the perfect movie. I mean, I doubt the new film has half the character development or plot as the 1993 version. Also, as John Leguizamo said, it's probably racist to not hire Italians for the voices of the Mario brothers. Even though Wikipedia conveniently says "Research by the genealogy show Finding Your Roots indicated that Leguizamo does not have Puerto Rican, Italian, and Lebanese ancestry, as he has sometimes stated."
@nocdaes it would be weird if the master sword wasn't better then everything else.... Which it isn't unless you buy the dlc, and go through the trials. Which is kind of weird.
@ModdedInkling I don't think all the other Zelda games are jokes. Plus the already have enemies that scale. Having degrading weapons just means you need to spend time side tracking to find another similar one once yours breaks.
You're poll questions were pretty skewed. But I get it, you all loved it though many didn't. I hated the implementation of degradation but the second yes response is almost better than the no response for me. Why not two yes's and two no's. Like, no, I want many unique weapons and items that don't simply disappear with use. It was so frustrating needing, or wanting, a fire item and not having any. Can we also talk about having a "Master" sword that deals less damage than other swords?
They're announcing it in 14 months, one week and 3 days. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Unless you mean the next Switch OLED in which case they just announced it.
@Pete41608 88% of people in the UK and 80% of people in the US have a computer at home. Assuming that many of those homes have computers less than 5 years old then most people have a computer that can run this game. I never mentioned multiple consoles, I mentioned a computer which exist in nearly every home, especially since 2020 happened.
It's interesting to me that I can get these games from random giveaways and then a year or two later I will see them drop for the Switch. I can only assume people are buying these games, but seriously it can run on a dual core computer with 5 gigs of space. Why would I pay the Nintendo tax for this? I can literally buy it right now for $3. Why would I want to wait just to have it on a Switch? I'm really curious if people have answers.
While I must agree that the XCX world was amazing, I feel like they really dropped the ball with the story. From an article I saw it seems like they dropped the story later in the game in order to make the main character an "avatar" because that was en vogue at the time. It's quite unfortunate because in other Xenoblades you feel like your in the story at opposed to just kind of running along side of it. As if the Harry Potter movies were filmed from the perspective of Neville Longbottom or another tertiary character. The story was still good, the world was amazing, but I felt like it could have been so much more. Similarly XC2 had a pretty great story but I felt the world was really lacking compared to the previous 2 games.
@mariomaster96 yes gameplay is subjective and some people could say snake or Superman 64 are better games to play. But as far as overall quality I think clearly the other two have better graphics, writing, music, etc. My wife likes pla better than Kirby as far as gameplay but says it seems like they were lazy with it as there are glitches she ran into, poor graphics in areas etc.
I don't know how anyone that played Pokemon and Xenoblade or Kirby could say Pokemon was better. I actually played all three and side by side you can see that Pokemon just looks and feels lazy when comparing story, visuals, gameplay, music, etc. But saying Pokemon was a bad game, just saying Xenoblade and Kirby are on a whole different level.
I am certain that Wii U didn't have Assassins Creed, Batman, Cod, or Mass Effect because I have been told for a literal decade that the Wii U had absolutely no 3rd party support and that's what killed it. And I've also been told it wasn't an advertising issue. So please don't lie to us, that system had no games, so definitely couldn't have these 3rd party games at launch.
Pokemon Arceus should also be nominated for laziest game. I mean it was good but my wife who doesn't play a ton of games kept committing on his different aspects were just lazy. Though, we did enjoy the game all things considered. But best? As for XC3 beating other games, I'm not sure. But definitely one of, if not, the best Switch game this year.

I think TotK is what people believe they got when they played BotW. For example, it's actually a Switch game not aWii U game.
