The length of the battles makes MG Stories 2 quite tedious for me. I put close to 50 hours in - got to lava world - and just lost interest.
SMTV is incredible - but you can't become attached to your demons. Like the world surrounding it - everything is fodder for strength.
Ni No Kuni, with it's constant sales, is probably the best value there is on the eshop. I do not feel it is like Pokemon. Just a regular action JRPG.
~~~even with Pokemon's problems most, or all, of the games on this list just don't have the same charm. They are mostly all trying to be Pokemon. Each one I've played falls short. The early days of game freak - the egg system, the EVs, the competitive scene for young and old, the brutal rarity of the OG shinies. Even the cartoons were a step above the others before Pokemon was a global force. By step above I mean Pokemon was funny and well animated while the others were absolutely horrible to even look at (like YuGiOh) and even worse to watch. Closest I've played is Yo Kai Watch 3 - but that game doesn't have it either.
@Pillowpants when I play Monster Hunter I sometimes realizethat I really don't have to buy a new game - like ever. I sincerely could be content just playing this.
I don't do that - but I could. And I'd have $1000s more dollars to play with in life ;_;
I will always remember MH Rise/Sunbreak as my favorite game of the entire Switch library. It will never be surpassed for the life of the Switch. I think I'll go for one last hardcore grinding swan song on this final release.
If I can tear myself away from SF6 that is. Damn you and your long talons Capcom.
@johnvboy I'd put 20M at the very low end for the first open world pokemon, after the universally glowly reception of Arceus, the recent year's card hype and the massive install base of the Switch.
Violet hovering in the sales teens and Scarlet a no show 6 months after release is probably not what they wanted or expected. The only current word of mouth is mostly all bad.
Sony's brand momentum chart would probably put Pokemon at a 7 right now. Where is their crack marketing team when we need them!
I'm not getting hyped for a developer without any pedigree to speak of. It's on them to sell us the game when it's released.
The are competing with huge summer games and right before Fall which will assuredly get some mega-hype from MS and Sony - since they are only now starting to release any decent games.
Good luck to them. We'll see if they get any attention.
@Rob3008 I'm not calling the game a failure. again - I don't know what their projections were. I'm obviously playing out a hypothetical.
The only game that had an install base this large was the DS - and the series has grown so much since then.
Think of Square Enix (kind of a joke comparison to compare a good company with a bad one). They put projections usually several millions or 100,000s above what they actually sell. Now, I know SE is an awful company compared to Nintendo (or most developers) but there can be a wide gulf between projections and actuals.
@Crockin you ignored my point. When S/S came out the install base was a fraction of what it is today. I specifically mentioned Projections as my point. You and I have no idea what their Projections were.
I do believe I can safely say that not having Pokemon on every top 10 list 6 months later - while ancient games like Kart are - is likely a disappointment.
Maybe they are listening. Even though sales have been huge - they may not have hit projections with the Switch's new install base over S/S. They could have sold better with a better game.
@smithyo I never bought one of these - but I did buy two Hawaiians from the official store. Just last week a pretty waitress complimented my shirt. It has little Psyducks and Eevees all over it. I'm happily married and had my two kids in tow - but in another life it would have been an icebreaker. If for nothing else to start a conversation and make a drinking buddy of the opposite sex. Now granted - I am drop dead gorgeous - this is true - but still.
This is not the first time I've been complimented on the shirts - which look of a higher quality, and better overall design, quality than these.
tl;dr -not all gals are turned off by this but I'm the type of person who doesn't care anyway - never have. Which of course -makes me even more irresistible. Throw on my wit and overwhelming charm? No one is safe. NO ONE. Catch 'em all!
The people who market this game really are amateurs. They treat this game like it is a AAASSS title when really it is struggling to find an audience. Maybe it is an AAA title. But no one knows that. The onus is on you; not us.
$40 game. Find an audience. Stop doing cinematics like you are Capcom or MS or Sony or we should care what this is. Some cinematics and game play. Marvelous - you have talent - for your own sake show it properly
@ComfyAko the ones with the prettiest pictures are generally worth the most. I looked up a close to $15 one for an example. Look at the Galarian Gallery set - Raikou V. Beaut card.
I pick the ones that are the prettiest to me - and of the Mons I enjoy the most. They are usually not the top tier valuable. I do buy a booster box from each set and keep it sealed. My best is Evolving Skies - which I won't open now.
@ComfyAko I do every now and then. But honestly it is so much more satisfying just having a great card rather than opening up 3 duds in a row - to the tune of $15. $15 can legit buy you a card you, and most other people, love - and possibly be worth something in the distant future.
look up $5-15 cards on tcgplayer. There are really some fantastic ones that you may not get in 10 or more packs.
@ComfyAko I just buy the best cards without ripping packs now. It is so much cheaper and you get exactly what you want. The $5 pack price can net you some top tier alternate arts. Ripping packs usually nets you nothing.
6 year old Switch outsells 2.5 year old PS5 by 230%. Last night's showcase tells you this is why no one is developing for their dying system 😬
Brand momentum is a solid 64 though so that's nice
@PikaPhantom I love Splatoon over Pokemon since last summer. But I didn't like the design of the switch much at all. I like the Zelda one - not asmuch as the SV edition - but I'm a minor Zelda fan at best.
I still like this thing and it is certainly the most rare of the bunch.
@RupeeClock I lose count. They release a new one every few sets or so. But I do find it telling that they put Zard on the front cover only a few months after the release of a completely new gen.
@TheBoilerman I've tried derivative works before - specifically with Lovecraft. Not only did they fall flat with me - they turned me off towards that type of thing completely. It's the same deal with the likes of Brian Herbert - I know he tries but he just cannot write in his father's voice. Best left alone imho.
@Chlocean I'm fine with all of that. I've always listened to odd choices - so I've always been good at finding it. But I also enjoy pop hits (I like everything) - so it would be nice just having some giant music hit everyone agrees on. For me, summer didn't start until there was that huge MEGA HIT.
The last one I can honestly remember, that transcended age, race or even preference - was Pharrell's 'Happy'. Which was about 100,000 years ago. cheers [bitterme]
@PessitheMystic My big frustration is re-making almost perfect cinematic visions of the original work. Remaking Lord of the Rings - while the Peter Jackson movies still look and feel fantastic. Why? Remake Potter while the movies still look good and are watched by millions on the daily. Why?
I cannot stand the laziness. Popular media is so so bad this past decade. I know I am oldie yelling at clouds but listen to top 40 radio today - they are playing 5-8 year old songs. Our local station is doing throwback hits from the 90s - but they play them all the time because no one is putting out new music.
When I was a kid every single song on the top 40 was a recognizable bonafide hit. They were constantly rotated because new music everyone loved was constantly being released.
Movies same deal. About 5 to 10 new movies released every single Friday. We used to have a hard time deciding what to watch.
@Olliemar28 Nah, you sold me (with very little effort). I haven't read a high fantasy book in quite some time - I am due. Cheers and thanks for the suggestion!
Like many people - I was a LotR nerd as a teenager. Once the original author is dead I just can't get behind constant remakes and weak spinoffs like this.
I find it a better use of time to go out and find new stories by talented writers who may become the next Tolkien one day.
It is a tie between Activision and Square Enix as today's worst developers. I think they are at their lowest point - and they manage to continue to surprise me with games like this. Look at their games - are they even capable of an original idea any longer? And even those stolen ideas - they are bottom-of-the-barrel bad.
It is bizarre - I used to be one their biggest fangirls you could find.
