Re: Round Up: Developers React To Unity's New 'Runtime Fee' Policy

@Nintendo_Thumb from thier page where it has all of the tiers broken down:

https://blog.unity.com/news/plan-pricing-and-packaging-updates

It looks like if you are a cheap subscriber you pay a lot and if you have a better thing you pay much less. something like that. Obviously pokenon go would be a high tier. and if they aren't: F 'em honestly. I'd charge them a high fee too. because they arent meant to make billions because of a license when it is built on your back.

should be much less for them. .005/per in your are enterprise.

@UltimateOtaku91 SE did this the past few years. nothing and then just stacking them atop one another. These are three really potential games - and I'd probably get all 3 - but over 9-12 months not all stacked with a super busy Christmas.

Talented team but I think they aren't run very well at all.

thanks for the response

@LadyCharlie it depends on the target tier. There are three. Urban (poor) middle and upper. Mine is the upper tier target - they get so much stuff they give it away even if you dont participate. This has happened now multiple times to me at target. Urban gets very little.

@azblue game Development is a horrible career choice unless you have unusual talent or are a founder. If you are in the western hemisphere and a regular grunt coder - you are the first out the door when trouble strikes. You get paid peanuts, work more hours than any other tech industry and are the first out the door when trouble inevitably rears it's head. heck half of what they do is illegal - such as Blizzard's harassment.

Other software jobs are much more comfortable. You make a decent wage, work human hours (although still more than most people) and are given a modicum of respect.

I sincerely don't know why anyone puts up with it. Why they haven't unionized en masse, like the movie industry, makes me question their intelligence.

@asukaArachne I like these articles too because there is only very rarely a person who has true insight to people's actual motivations and completely empty prayers. That person serves as a mirror to how groupthink develops and can be exploited by all sorts of people for their own gain.

@Drac_Mazoku It is the main gripe but not the only one. The intensely low resolutions of the ground, buildings, etc when walking close up really bother me. You have a game like Monster Hunter - made 3 years ago - that is online with multiple people running all around a map - that has very realistic resolution in all parts of the game. Capcom obviously put effort into the game. I feel TPC put no effort at all into this game. It all feels so lazy and uninspired.

I understand the Switch has limitations and I also get that you don't need 4K max settings to enjoy a good game - I'm not the guy who counts polys. but when I walk up to an important symbol on Pokemon (like the emblem for the school or what have you) I expect it to not look like a Pollock inspired surreal dream mess. Like a finger painting a 4 year old might draw.

It took me out of the game - this is the first Pokemon I've ever disliked. I've been playing almost every one, including 80% of the side games, since Pearl released. It is the only one I started and didn't bother completing.

@Drac_Mazoku when you look across any of the towns and watch NPCs walk they they are trapped in a stuttering time vortex it doesn't take you out of the game?

I think the problem most people have is the game feels like it would fit on the PS2 or Gamecube. It doesn't fit on the most popular, money-making franchise in all of gaming in 2023.

Legends Arceus ran better than the mainline game - which is a travesty. It is obvious these things are rushed.
