Re: Poll: Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster Is Out On Switch This Week, Will You Be Getting It?

Cashews

@Retrodouche I remember not ever getting the cards I needed when I really needed them. It was a rare quit for me. Like I said though, it has been a large amount of time I barely remember it.

cheers though hope you like it - I remembered I wont get namco games that don't have dubs. Which means I really only buy From Software games published by namco. Which I do. they'd probably do a lot better with a more stout publisher I bet.

Which blog is going to blast it for the clicks this time? Do they flip a coin?

@LikelySatan a reminder NONE of the reviews on any game mean anything ever. They are becoming more disposable with each passing day.

Re: Disgaea 7 Demo Available Now On Nintendo Switch, Doods!

Cashews

@Lightsiyd I am not and I haven't. I just think I could have if I had pushed hard to beat without doing much else. Instead I played around in the item world, tried most of the generic characters and did any sidequests I found before I beat the game.

maybe it would take a lot more - it was a few years ago now when I beat it.

all this talk is making me want to play again! great game for handheld grinding.

Re: Disgaea 7 Demo Available Now On Nintendo Switch, Doods!

Cashews

@Lightsiyd I like Disgaea because it is whatever you want it to be. i think you can just have a core group of characters and rush the story down in 30 hours or less without too much grind. or you can play it forever doing all sorts of nonsense.

I love the series I hope this one is a winner.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Welcomes In The New Era With Launch Trailer

Cashews

@Randomarcadedude during the last Evo tournament I tried watching some high level hype videos of the game's best players - and I can see they have major skills. But the game seems so twitchy with effects teleporting all over the screen - it feels almost like another genre. Not for me at all.

That said, it is the best franchise the switch has that isn't Smash. So I get why Switch only players might be excited and god bless them.

Re: Disgaea 7 Demo Available Now On Nintendo Switch, Doods!

@Roam85 6 introduced auto leveling. Kind of like the game playing for you I guess - like one of those terrible mobile "rpgs" where you auto battle is how it read to me.

I never played it from everything I read it seems almost universally hated. The most hated in the series by far. Not disliked - but hated.

I loved 5. Spent roughly 230 hours with it - I probably will play it again one day. I sure hope 7 is good I'd love to go back to the series and maybe even buy it when it's new.

Re: Talking Point: Which Classic Cartoons Deserve The Shredder's Revenge Treatment?

Cashews

@somnambulance December 8th his new film hits American theaters. It looks absolutely incredible. Mark it on the calendar dude.

At that time the closest to japanese animation I had seen was probably thundercats. It was kind of fast and the characters were somewhat different. After I saw nausicaa I realized how trash that, and all of the other cartoons of that era, were.

Super unpopular opinion that is actually fact: US 1980s Cartoons are the lowest point in animation history. From Disney to Saturday morning it is bottom of the barrel bad.

Re: Talking Point: Which Classic Cartoons Deserve The Shredder's Revenge Treatment?

Cashews

The true classics - Looney Tunes.

I grew up in the 80s. I loved cartoons back then. I understand most of them are absolutely terrible by animation and storytelling standards. Devoid of good jokes or talented voice actors.

They showed Nausicaa and the Valley of Wind on some cheap cable channel when I was a kid. I happened to be watching that day. I still don't know how it got on it was on ly a year or two after it's Japanese theater run. I was absolutely transfixed. I thought, "what is god's name is this? and why have I been watching the garbage for my whole life until now?'"

Re: Pokémon Collaboration With Van Gogh Museum Announced

Cashews

@AnalogWave "Such a sardonic view"

Yes.

Question - did you need cartoon characters doing product placement to introduce you to finer arts? I was introduced by my parents, schools, libraries and maturity. i think being introduced by something to sell you a tshirt does more harm than good. It associates the art with commercialism when the mind can barely distinguish between the two. It really can'.t. I see this every day with my 7 and 9 YO daughters.

Put a KFC bucket in the arms of the Mona Lisa, put a Yankees cap and a Messi jersey on David because it'll get the kids in.

Imo, it really won't. It cheapens the art.

Re: Pokémon Collaboration With Van Gogh Museum Announced

Cashews

@nukatha I get it - it just makes me sad. Gogh lived such an oppressive life to have his work reduced to selling some bull**** with a cartoon electric rat just bums me out. The museum taking part really nails it home. nothing to be done about it.

Maybe this is why Kafka never wanted his writing published.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Gamescom Demo Supposedly Had Zelda: BOTW Running At 4K 60FPS

Cashews

@Serpenterror for all the reasons you typed out - that is why no one cares about VR. Nintendo innovates as does partner Nvidia. Nintendo does things in the game market - everyone follows.

You told a story as it is now - like it is stuck in time at the moment of it's birth. I believe Nintendo is likely the only company that could let it reach mass appeal. if they wanted to.

I do not care if they do or don't - but it would be cool if they tried and I think they'd be up to the challenge.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Gamescom Demo Supposedly Had Zelda: BOTW Running At 4K 60FPS

@kongOfTheJungle The switch remains their handheld but Nintendo releases a new tv only console. They add a discounted MS gamepass functionality ($10-12) - to keep NSO. They release a small VR headset bundled with it's first game Virtual Mario World. The casual market accepts VR for the first time as Mario VR goes to sell 8 million in it's first year. It comes in two colors - grey and red.

Whatever this machine is - I hope it isn't just a Switch Pro with a new chip. if it is - this will be confusing for the ultra-casual market - the ones who get their machines through grandma or soccer mom etc. They won't know the difference, will grab the cheaper machine and leave the little ones burned.

I'd like to something that can hold a much larger amount of data. A new format even. So i don't have to download 40GB+ of data on an NBA2k game.

We'll see these rumors are starting to take a clearer form - i think there is truth in them now. I think we will here more in 2023 - so Nintendo will force people to hesitate buying a XSX or PS5 for Christmas. Controlled leaks.

Re: Embracer Group Reportedly Looking To Sell Borderlands Dev Gearbox Entertainment

Cashews

@Paraka MS is so far away from having a monopoly on anything - I really don't get why people think they win if they buy a company. MS is getting thrashed by Sony and Nintendo - they are simply trying to survive.

I was making a much more simple point. I've worked for MS in the past. They are a good company to work for. They support their employees in a number of ways. Financially and QoL. When they buy a company they stick it out for at least a bit - try multiple avenues to make it work.

Embracer gobbled up things too fast and are having a fire sale - throwing everyone out on the street to make the books look more lean or shutting down completely.

Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart And Zelda: TOTK Hold Strong In A Week Of Tough Competition

Cashews

@Tharsman It may portend of what is to come with the much larger price tag of ABK though. If they don't get a significant bump with their biggest release in years will ABK, however they release games, really move the needle either? i think it wouldn't - unless they went extreme and stuck it to Sony. Then it could matter.

I believe they will put the screws to the playstation concerning Call of Duty.

Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart And Zelda: TOTK Hold Strong In A Week Of Tough Competition

Cashews

@Tharsman I know the game is a hit - in more ways than one. MS financial report is endlessly more important that a sales list of barely relevant UK boxed sales.

The quarterly shows a clean picture without the emotions of always overly emotional gamers.

This list would be the very definition of arbitrary. The bottom 20 are in the literal 100s of units.

There is no way the next Switch won't have a brand new Kart.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder GameStop Pre-Orders Revealed (North America)

@MooseTinsel the chain itself is metal - if that's what you mean. The graphic is a piece of paper with a really hard plastic case. I got 2 of them I believe and the S/H was around 8 bucks. It was worth it to me just because it was Kart and I had a rl cart. I wanted to put some Mario Kart vinyls on the side of the cart but the lady of the house said no way

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 9th)

Cashews

Sea of Stars and Exoprimal on the Xbox. Everybody Loves Golf on the Switch when I'm outside on the porch. Kid's sports starts today and it's the last weekend for our neighborhood pool - so my focus is there. Once the pool season starts you miss it! Gotta get in every hour I can!

Sea of Stars is one of the best games of the year. If it comes out physical in a normal fashion on the Switch (no limited run bs) I'll be getting it just to have it forever.

Re: Poll: Hasn't Nintendo Always Been An 'Entertainment' Company?

Cashews

They have always wanted to be but they have never been successful until this movie and the theme park. And due to Disney's recent weakness.

I've been saying this for years, often on this very site - the weakness in Disney's brand right now is a huge opportunity for other companies. While Disney is out fighting politicians and social justice - Sony and Nintendo are waiting in the wings; knives out with Disney's back as their target. if they aren't they are wasting their time and resources. The US, at least, is wanting a change in family programming and entertainment.
