Re: GoldenEye 007 Director Martin Hollis Found A Weakness In The N64 That Almost Caused Another Delay

Blastcorp64

N64 3D polygons always appeared solid, like they had some weight to them. PS1, though I preferred it's clearer resolution, 3D polygons appeared paper thin and had that weird warping effect when they got too close to the foreground. It makes metal gear solid all the more impressive because it seemed to avoid all of the distracting PS1 glitches somehow, even the crude pixelization..

Re: 80's Overdrive is Coming to the 3DS

Blastcorp64

It definitely takes inspiration from Outrun, but it instantly reminded me of Rad Racer (I think that's its title) on the NES. I think because, if I remember correctly, at the time the 3DS was announced and all this talk about glasses free 3-D came about - Nintendo had mentioned that they had been experimenting with the technology since in the '80s and they actually made a 3-D version of Rad Race, but it required a peripheral that had to go over your tv screen. I imagine something similar to the old touch screen peripheral you could attach to the old Apple II computers back in the '80s. Can anyone confirm this??

Re: Review: Fire Emblem: Mystery Of The Emblem (SNES)

Blastcorp64

Really?? I think I have it. I wasn't sure until I looked it up, but it's called Shadow Dragon. I bought it used at GameStop (haven't actually played it yet). According to Wikipedia it released in all territories around '08 and it's described as the second remake of the famicom original.

Re: Video: Sit Back and Enjoy Two Hours of Monster Hunter Generations Gameplay

Blastcorp64

My introduction to monster hunter was tri on the Wii, and later 3u on the wiiu. I bought 4u when it came out, but barely played it. I kept thinking, I wish I could play this on a bigger screen. I understand the reasoning - Capcom is not in the best shape financially, and the handhelds are cheaper to produce and guarantee higher sales. I just wish Nintendo would take notice and help finance a console version.

Re: We'll Be Cursing At Super Meat Boy's Insane Difficulty "Very Very Very Soon"

Blastcorp64

Finally! I remember really liking this game. I played the flash version on a laptop and thought it was great. My generic controller for the laptop stopped functioning, so I tried playing it with the arrow keys. After about 30 seconds, I was like, 'I can't do this, I'll just wait for the Wii release.' Since then, I got married, bought a house, and I'm raising a two year old, but I'll be sure to download this for the wiiu as a form of closure.

Re: Video: Nintendo Minute Celebrates Pokémon Day and the Revamped Nintendo Store in New York

I visited the store around the time MK8 released; they had a life-size kart displayed by the stairs. It was pretty cool, though I it was mostly a gift shop downstairs (stuffed animals, hoodies, etc.). The upstairs had a counter-top glass display with every Nintendo hardware, beginning with game and watch on the left and the wiiu all the way to the right with every gizmo placed in a timeline. It looks like they expanded that area and made it more like a museum with hardware pieces having their own display case. It would be awesome if they had more space and displayed vintage arcade machines and had all the items be playable.

Re: Nintendo Will Do Well On Mobile Because That's Where Its Core Audience Is Now, Claims Analyst

Blastcorp64

@PlywoodStick Thanks! I don't follow mobile gaming, but it seems there is as much uncertainty in mobile as there is in console gaming. There's never a sure thing, but it seemed for a while - based on 100s of millions of smart phones and tablets floating around - that conventional thinking suggested it would be easy money. But, just like most people probably don't buy a playstation to check their e-mail; most people probably aren't buying an ithing to play video games. I've had an iPhone for 5 years and I haven't opened the App Store in about 5 years.

Re: Activision Won't Have a Booth at E3 This Year

Blastcorp64

@OorWullie Same here - I've always felt that way about western developers with few exceptions. Pre-Xbox (the '90s), the Japanese developers outshined their western counterparts in just about every way within the console space. Then, the Xbox came out and suddenly there was a flood of pc game developers suddenly releasing their games on consoles. It felt, in the 90s, there was a division in the west between pc developers and the activision and midway type developers. The pc developers were the innovators in the west and the console guys were trying to keep pace with the Japanese developers, but ended up releasing haphazard, fundamentally flawed clones of popular Japanese games. This is my take, at least.

Re: Nintendo Will Do Well On Mobile Because That's Where Its Core Audience Is Now, Claims Analyst

Blastcorp64

What is the assessment of mobile gaming? It seems like we've been hearing about mobile gaming being the next big thing for over 7 years now ever since the angry birds phenomena. For a period, it seemed like there was gold rush of traditional console developers jumping ship to cash in on mobile gaming. Did it work out? Is there a breakout of minecrafts revenue? I single this out because it's on every platform. Is mobile its primary cash generator? Someone! Please, I need answers!!

Re: The Pokémon Splatfest Results Have Been Confirmed

Blastcorp64

Yeah, this seems to be the norm in the U.S. splatfests. I think it's because the more popular group has a disproportionate amount of teams made up wholly of weak players. So, an all-star team from the less popular group may battle against a string of weaker teams from the more popular group before they encounter a team that matches well with them.

Re: Mega Man's Creator Outlines The Rules Used To Shape One Of The Most Brutal Games Ever Made

Blastcorp64

As an eight year old defeating the first two was extremely satisfying. It was all trial and error; once you figured out which power up you needed to make things easier, the games aren't all too bad (ex. using the rocket sled in heatmans stage during the dissappearing blocks segment, or the freeze ability during the lazer beam segment in quickmans stage). Figuring out the order to tackle the robot masters is the hardest part; I downloaded part four from the eshop and played it for the first time and kept getting my ass kicked. It's not always intuitive either, like bubblemans bubbles can kill crashman (I think) in two seconds.

Re: Platinum Is Working On Collaborations That Have Yet To Be Announced

Blastcorp64

Platinum is great. I've been playing their games before they were Platinum. They remind me of the golden age of '90s Japanese video games, but contemporary. Their games are top notch, but they don't always sell well compared to the perennial heavy weights. That's not an issue for me, but I don't understand why companies like activision and Microsoft contract them to make games; two companies that are about as far away as you can get from the traditional Japanese video game style. Maybe I'm being selfish and just feel it's taking time and resources away from platinum focusing on making games for Nintendo, lol.

Re: Wii U Sales Show Promising Growth Courtesy of Splatoon and Super Mario Maker Success

Blastcorp64

So, if this is the wiius peak year. Then, I imagine they'll want to ride it for, at least, another holiday season, especially if they make a push with Zelda (almost always a November release). Then, the wiiu successor is likely a fall 2017 thing. Everyone keeps saying its this year. I think, there going to try a 'third pillar', like with DS during the slow years for the GameCube and release a new handheld.

Re: 2015 Brought a Decent Year of Sales for Nintendo in France

Blastcorp64

Splatoon is the best Nintendo game since Kid Icarus: Uprising. With that said, I am sometimes baffled with how broken the game can be (lag, connection, etc), yet, have played 300 hours of it. I think that means I'm clinically insane.

How about Ancho V Games map? I am not too fond of it. It's more of a middle tier level for me and was disappointed because I was kind of hoping they were gonna save the best for last. But, still, I played it 3 hours consecutively last night. Weird.

Re: Video: Relive the Glorious Madness of The Wonderful 101 With the 60fps Director's Edition Trailer

Blastcorp64

@sandman89 pretty much, though more like Bayonetta with viewtiful joe humor. Nonetheless, excellent game and will likely be remembered as wiiu's best hidden gem. Though, as the article implies, it does seem divisive - reading boards around the net, people either love it or hate it. But, if you enjoyed Bayonetta and Viewtiful Joe, chances are you'll enjoy and its discounted.

Re: Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey Believes Virtual Boy "Hurt" the VR Industry, But It's Not All Bad

Blastcorp64

i think virtual reality's viability and, ultimate success (when it's affordable), will come from outside of gaming. That's not to say it can't come from entertainment with movies and simulations, but, there is an obvious use for this in the other fields, like robotics. The future may be pretty bleak, when a man in an secured room away from danger can control a giant robot capable of murdering hundreds of people at will. Thanks a lot oculus, may as well start your terminator project.
