makes me long for a follow up to Elite Beat Agents. I'm not too aware of the developer. Rhythm games can either be extremely addicting like Harmo Knight and Theatrerythm or extremely dreadful like the zombie one with the guy with the guitar (last time I take a chance on a rhythm game with a developer I don't know anything about). But, I'll definitely keep an eye on this game.
I wonder how the dementium remaster is selling so far. Well, hopefully Totes the Goat will get more exposure and garner the needed sales on iOS to stay viable and maybe build up anticipation for a potential eshop release. Nothing wrong with that strategy...well, that's if it sells well on iOS. I guess you can always blame the market for low sales.
Edit: I'm curious what the probability of having a successful release on iOS compared to the eshop. I'm not talking angry birds sales and obviously there hundreds of millions more idevices in the wild, but enough to gain revenue to green light other projects. I'm just saying, it seemed like xeodrifter was getting 'front page' exposure on the eshop for a while and included in nindie sizzler reels. I have an iPhone and a 3DS - I check the eshop exclusively for games, but the last time I went on the apps store was months ago and that was to look for a free compass. So, I was more wondering the proportion of idevices owners who seek out games. I know my wife and mother in law are not and they probably represent a big portion of the imarket
Great! I was sold on this game from the E3 trailer. Enjoyed dig a lot and it's great to see a game company develop its own universe to use as a backdrop for different creative ideas. However, not being able to forecast enemy moves and attacks has me worried a little. It's usually a very helpful tool in these strategy, turn-based games, but I'm sure I will enjoy nonetheless.
@rjejr I'll have to check it out. I got a Sony bluray for cheap and was pleasantly surprised to see has access to PS NOW. Haven't played playstation since the PS1 days so I was pretty excited until I realized the price of a PS3 dual shock cost as much as the bluray player.
@rjejr agreed, it makes the character seem uninspired and cheap, but I like the concept especially the a crossbow. Makes me imagine a turn based RPG Zelda spinoff similar to fire emblem could work with an army of green tunics sporting different weapon classes. The wrath of Kokiri!
@PeterAndCompany it's always amusing to me when people patronize Florida because of media perception, but say Orlando is cool. Orlando is the most bat $h1t crazy area of the state. The home of Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman and the lawyer turned paganist who drinks goats blood and wants to run for president...and also made a career by defending neo-nazis. I understand, you're there for the roller coasters and stuff, but I'd prefer the beach or a kayaking trip through the crystal clear waters of the nature coast than spending a miserable day in the baking sun in a crowded theme park.
@shani you make fair points, and I enjoy it just fine without voice chat, but there are times in rainmaker I wish I could communicate beyond the two presets. I think a nice addition would be to have two more preset calls on the d-pad. Like, defend the base, or fall back, and they can change according to the rank mode. You likely experienced this situation, I've even did it myself a dozen times, where the "back door" is left open because the team got too far ahead of themselves and charged the enemy base, but without anyone bothering to pick up the rainmaker, so you can sneak in, grab the fish, and coast to the overly ambitious teams endzone untouched and finish the match in less than 30 seconds.
Edit: Yes, I'm aware of the different sound cues, but doesn't mean the other guys are aware. Plus, it would be nice to be giving and receiving recon throughout the match. Still, my favorite game of the past decade.
Question, why did the English stop calling it soccer? The English, not only invented the sport, but the name "soccer" too, right? I'm aware this is a British site so I try to be courteous and will never refer to football as "soccer"...the FIFA kind.
10-12 million? Isn't that a little too ambitious? It's not like Nintendo to be reckless, especially considering it's taken the wiiu 3 years to reach that amount.
@shani I disagree, mainly in rainmaker, the other modes, I kinda agree with you. Rainmaker, I would love to let my team know I have kraken charged, so I can activate it and have them follow in my wake to the endzone. Plus, when you have a teammate who insist on always taking the rainmaker only to back pedal and keeps shooting it at nothing. You just want to let them know, "move!, there's no one there!"
I've found the most success in Rainmaker is to keep leapfrogging to the zone. Whoever has the fish, just move forward as much as you possibly can, but always move forward ahead of your team - youre gonna die, but your team will have formed a barricade behind the fish and you can keep pushing it forward incrementally, sort of like NFL football. so, I think voicechat would work greatly in this mode, there are way too many different strategies you can adopt rainmaker.
@JustJulyo it's an interesting dynamic playing with my fellow westerners and Japanese. It's always funny to see, let's say, an American go in guns blazing like Arnuld only to get stealth assassinated by a well timed and smartly positioned Japanese player, like a xenomorph coming out of the walls in Aliens. You only see them after its too late.
Hopefully, they've gotten better over the months. The last time I watched the treehouse members play it was aggravating - one girl kept super jumping and got splatted upon arrival, like the whole match
Nice! I will have to dust off the ole' 3DS. While I'm at it - I need to get back into MH4U. A game I neglected for far too long (thanks a lot Splatoon!). For a rather anemic holiday for Nintendo, I'm getting anxiety trying to optimize my gaming time between Xenoblade x, steam world heist, and I feel bad for barely touching MH4U. Sadly, I will probably play more Splatoon. In my 25+ years of gaming, I never played a game this much (and I was able to put 70+ hours into kid Icarus: uprising). A few years ago, I put 110 hours into the OG Xenoblade, and I thought, I need to get out more...I've easily doubled that play time with Splatoon and still not bored with it. I need help.
Good ole bayou billy. Cashing in on the crocodile Dundee craze at the time. I remember the challenge of this game, like many of the old NES games, resulted more in just trying to control the character.
I bought luigis mansion 2 last year during Black Friday for the same price. I was hoping to see affordable space adventure for under $10.
I checked a newspaper ad the other day and all I saw were PS4 and X1 games (most released this year!) for like $15. People claim the relatively high price of the wiiu is causing Nintendo to lose market share - I think the stubborn software pricing Nintendo employs may very well be a bigger reason. It's well know that Sony exclusives are usually like $20 off a month after they release. The quality of these games may be debatable, but it's hard not to see the strong market appeal of such a practice.
@Patapon11x Thanks! I'm surprised it's range is as long as the jet squelcher. That'll be nice, although, somewhat expected, it has the mobility of a tank.
I hope they release more ancient weapons, like the bamboozler. I was thinking a bow with mini burst bomb explosive arrow tips, like Rambo. It would be a new class of weapon that would allow you to adjust the range and show the trajectory like a bomb toss. The longer you hold the button, the farther out your trajectory moves.
It would be a bit sluggish like a charger or splatling, but would have the advantage of arcing arrows over walls and come equipped with a disruptor sub and killer wail special to help you retreat...damn, I guess I play this game a little too much.
Bubsy 3D was bad, even for 1996. Unfortunately it was being compared to Mario 64. What I remember is you basically controlled the camera - whatever direction the camera was centered on was the direction bubsy jumped, so it felt very rigid.
@leo13 yeah, huge incentive for me as well. MK is great and all, but I had just finished playing the hell out of MK7, so I wasn't too excited about it. The first month I owned it, I didn't play it because I became engrossed with Pikmin 3.
1. Splatoon
2. Pikmin 3
3. SMM
4. W101
5. MK8
6. SSB
7. Toad
8. Nintendo land
Haven't played the others, except WW on the GC (great game!). The funny thing, I own Bayonetta 2 but haven't played it yet in the 10 months I've owned the damn thing. I'm sure it's great, I just felt to play the packed-in first entry before the second. Well, after 30+ hours on Bayonetta 1, Splatoon came out and derailed any games I intended to play the past 6 months except for SMM.
The new results page is no better than the old one. The old one wasn't accurate. I prided myself on getting splatted the least. I would focus on inking the splatzone from a strategic defensive point. Sure, my k/d ratio may be only like 4/1, but I know I contributed more than the guy placed above with a 5/10 ratio - the guy was re spawning half the match.
Can someone explain how the rollers got nerfed in the last update? I'm still getting OHKO by carbon rollers spray and Dynamo rollers spray from like 30 feet away.
My go-to weapon for tower control. The special is a kraken, which I prefer for rainmaker. I wish it had the splash wall sub with the kraken special rather than point sensor sub. Than it would be a tough choice between this and the .96 gal deco when I'm FORCED to play rainmaker.
If they can sell 2 million wiius over the holidays, they should reach their target. If not, it looks though the wii maybe the only console to reach its target
Wow! Had no idea Spatoon has been this successful so far. I'm glad, it was one of those rare games that felt like an instant classic just from playing the first testfire. It gave fans confidence it would do well. There were naysayers up to release predicting W101 type sales. the initial sales even surprised the late mr iwata. Hopefully, this gives Nintendo encouragement to experiment with big releases.
More enemy types would be appreciated - especially of the bros. type like boomerang, fire, ice, and sumo. I wish we could Change the orientation of the level by making them vertical. Cool, hopefully we get it soon in the states; I've only played the GCN version and would like to try the wii controls. Plus it's been like 10 years so I'll have fresh eyes.
I'll have to try the H-3 nozzle nose again. Before, it felt like there wasn't any difference in range compared to the L-3 except it was much slower...so it was pretty useless. I still have hope for the weapon, especially if they release one with a splash wall - it could be a nice change-up from the .96 gal/splash wall set-up I almost always use when FORCED to play rainmaker....rainmaker sucks
Sounds promising, I'm likely to get it. My only gripe - I wish it was more H.P. Lovecraft and less Russ Meyer. The mini skirts and perfect boobs seem to kinda take me out of the atmosphere. I'm fine with that, if it was going for cheesy '80s slasher, but this seems a little more darker than that.
Diehard Sony fanboys are probably feeling insecure and betrayed right now. "Noooo, Nintendo did not not do everything first!!!!!" "What about dual analog sticks? What about ps eye? Uh..uh..CD-ROM?" As the argument usually goes time and time again on other forums...
It's a joke fine tuning the weapons. It doesn't matter when the Japanese players can still one-hit- KO you with a splattershot, carbon roller, n-zap, squelched, burst bomb, etc.
My biggest peeve is losing rank points with only three in your platoon or losing points after being disconnected before the match begins. Sure, give the team with an unfair advantage points for winning, like they will 95% of the time (although, my 3-man team won a rank match against a 4-man team and, it was glorious). Just don't deduct points from disadvantaged players for reasons beyond our control!! I'm okay with the weapons the way they are
This is what the coal miner's of West Virginia spent generations fighting for, dammit! Over compensation and the right to use your cell phone on the job.
Residuals for what? Unless they have writing, design, or publishing credits - why should they be entitled to residuals? Hollywood unions are a joke. They should be advocating against child labor in their industry. Every time I see a kid in a movie, I think, "poor child, they probably have to suffer to help provide for their family after Pa got sick and can't work in the movies anymore." LOL, my grandpa had to drop out of school at the ripe age of 12 to work in the perilous conditions of hollywood just to provide for his family. It is the most thankless work to do. True story.
I like the stage and rank mode forecast. Now, if they would retire rainmaker - the worse mode. I mean, it's cool in theory, but with no way to communicate to coordinate a strategy it quickly turns into a mess maybe 70% of the time. Splatzones and tower control work just fine without voicechat but it's sorely missing in rainmaker. I don't know how many times I've cleared a path and kept the enemy at bay only to look at the gamepad and see my team mate with the rainmaker back pedal and decide to pursue some asinine route. I'm like, "Nooo!, I just knocked out three enemies - the path is clear!" No matter how many times I spam the C'mon! button. Usually by the time they figure it out, the enemy has re spawned and I'm caught with my pants down because I've been staring at the gamepad trying to figure where the hell my team mate went....sorry to vent.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo and DeNA Will Be Revealing the First Smart Device Software Soon
I'm sure, as with a lot of Nintendo reveals for these type of opportunities, it will leave a lot of people scratching their heads thinking 'wtf?!?'
