Never thought of it before, but isn't it strange a Japanese developer created a football game. Has any j-developers ever created western sports game before, or since? Not counting Mario sports or soccer games...
Would love to see platinum make a castlevania game and Nintendo make a mega man game based around the gameplay mechanics of Splatoon. Don't know why I posted this here, it's just sad to see stellar franchises sit dormant for so long or mishandled.
Market the hell out of Mario Maker and drop a big update for Splatoon - Christmas is saved!
I wonder, if Xenoblade released in September and they held back Mario maker till around November - would your perspective have changed? Don't get me wrong, I'm still bummed about waiting longer for Star Fox and, if Miyamoto is to be trusted, should be a very early Q1 release. Early February usually seems to be a popular Nintendo release time, though.
I was bummed and then remembered X is still coming this year as well as fatal frame. It would have been awesome if Miyamoto said, "to make up for the delay, we'll release Pikmin 4 in its place"
Not fair, Nintendo! I've been caught up in making my unfinished epic bowser stage. Just when I thought it was time to give Splatoon a well deserved rest - I'm reeled right back to it.
Where does the Tokyo studio fit into all of this? Aren't they ones who handle the 3D Mario games? I thought they were separated from EAD, at least by name, right? Or, has this all been changed in the recent past?
It seems they went polar opposites. From a creative type to a businessman type. It's probably a safe pick; they probably expect more stability with a numbers guy. Iwata led the company through some unparalleled highs, but crashing lows all within a decade, numbers wise. They're probably hoping for restrained growth. Hopefully he doesn't sell out in order to make sales by pushing for more car games or guy with gun who drives around in a car game....murder simulators. He doesn't seem to be the type who will do directs. Maybe we'll see more of Miyamoto taking that role. Wouldn't be a bad thing.
He's probably like the old-old Nintendo boss. He really doesn't care for video games but ruthless when it comes to making deals.
Lol, bad promo for Splatoon. Hopefully people who haven't played or know much about Splatoon don't take this as an accurate approximation to inform their opinion whether Splatoon is worth playing or not. Disney is either doing a really bad job of promoting their game or doing a clever job of driving buyers away from Splatoon in hopes they'll consider Disney games.
Cool! I'm always trying different weapons. I have my preferences and they change depending on the mode and level. I recently found the L3 nozzle nose to be effective in rainmaker so I'll definitely try this out. It looks to be to the L3 what the .96 is to the .52.
Didn't know tezuka was the man behind SM3 (I'm sure Miyamoto was breathing down his neck the whole time). I love listening to Miyamoto talk about game design - a genius creator and artist. It's nice not having a developer talk about how their game engine can render fabrics to look realistic or technical jargon, but just their vision and the nuances to the concept and the happy accidents that caused them to think differently about the creative process. He reminds me of a musician talking about the creative process of arranging a song and experimenting in the studio with different tones and modulators.
@OddworldCrash you should, Pikmin one made me a nervous wreck. Haven't touched Pikmin until I got a free download code for Pikmin 3 and it blew me away. However, you still have a day/night cycle but there is no limit to the amount of days you have as long as you keep a healthy supply of fruit juice. Plus the gamepad works brilliantly with 3.
Awesome! I hope it's for wiiu - I thought the gamepad complimented this game well. Will we have to direct four olimar-types? That seems to be the trend with each release.
The mousecapdes box brings back memories - the first NES game I ever got and the beginning of a lifelong love for Capcom games. I remember always renting turtles arcade and being slightly disappointed it didn't come with the Pizza Hut coupon.
@dkxcalibur oh yeah, perfect for tower control. You can splat three bad guys positioned on the tower in one charge, then, seize the tower and rain hell on the bad guys as you approach their zone.
In a way, I think it's made me better. I've accepted that a Japanese splattershot will splat me in one shot and it may take my range blaster three blasts to splat a Japanese player. I play at night so I'm usually the only western in the lobby and, I'll admit, some matches are smoother than others. But, regional servers? IDK if it'll make things better...I've seen the strangest things when playing with my fellow Americans like during splat fest or the rare occasion when I play Saturday afternoon. Crazy teleportation and team mates disappearing are the worse. I lost 12 points during rank because 'Tyler92' dissapeared mid match and, ironically, we happened to playing against an all-Japanese team.
I'm surprised a western Nintendo employee understands a non-disclosure agreement. Must be a NOA problem, you know, us Americans and our endless pursuit of fame.
Cool, I live about an hour and a half away in St. Petersburg and, lately, have been going to Orlando for a client about once a week so this may work out nicely. Tons of tourist at the Florida Mall (there is even a hotel built into the mall) so may not be a bad location. Still, you would think New York and it would fit nicely in Rockefeller plaza near the Nintendo store. It could've been the beginning of a retro gaming district in Manhattan, lol!
How do these guys get all the dimensions of the original? Do they eyeball it, or can you import the original into the new software and overlay it with the new stuff?
I'm a 3ds ambassador and received wario land 4. I never thought much of these games until I got bored one night and decided to try it out. I was surprised, I mean, really surprised how brilliant the game turned out to be. I would easily put up their with one of the best 2-d platformers Nintendo ever produced. Wario land 4 had to have been a rarity when it came out in 2001 - back when there was a gold rush for polygons and 3-d graphics. As a life long Nintendo fan I'm always pleased and surprised at discovering these gems I either overlooked or never knew about the first time around. So, a 4/10 for a wario platformer? Haven't played it, but do the touch controls really bring it down that much? Or, because it was outsourced it lost the Nintendo touch? I'll admit the gba f-zero is pretty awesome (another ambassador game I discovered) and, I would say, better than the original.
@Dr_Corndog The wiimote makes for a much better streamlined experience in the sequel. Way more intuitive and more fun than the original. Classic treasure game
They have my support - I enjoyed nano assault quite a bit. it seems they recognize there is a market on the wiiu, despite the sluggish sales, by filling a void created by the companies who abandoned the platform. It seems like a unique position for a developer; sure, they can release their game on the more popular PS4 but they'll be competing against a glut of similar developers rather than releasing on the leaner wiiu where they get more exposure. I mean, if they were planning to release on the PS4...do you think they would've had a showcase at E3 like they did with Nintendo. I don't think so.
I think we need to stop thinking about NX as a wiiu successor and more as the 'third pillar' like I think Nintendo has been trying to communicate.
Is it possible for them to create a PC compatible console such as whatever is available for PC could be available for the NX and, yet have its own proprietary software (e.g. Mario, Zelda, etc.). That would solve the third party problem. I would think all consoles in the future will eventually share a universal platform but distinguished only by their exclusives and UI. It just beginning to seem archaic for something like assassins creed to be released on half a dozen formats when it's essentially the same game. Not like in years past where there were noteworthy differences between different versions of the same game whether it was on the SNES or genesis.
I enjoyed this map. The only time I delivered the fish to the goal in rainmaker (twice!). I suspect I took advantage of the early confusion of people familiarizing themselves with the new terrain. Anyways, I controlled the center of the map below the bridge with the range blaster. At one point I blasted all four baddies at once, took the fish, and made a b-line to the goal - my team mate made a beautiful assist by dispatching a seeker directly to the goal from about 50 feet away and I coasted right to the goal untouched. One of my proudest Splatoon moments, lol!
@Dpishere You have been! My personal favorite Genesis game. And, if you like this game and you have a wii/wiiu, I strongly recommend alien soldier. It's another treasure genesis/mega drive game but was exclusive to Japan until the virtual console came along.
@Zombo ...uh, I meant rugby...is that better. If not, how about Australian rules football. It would be kinda funny to punt the rainmaker, but out of frustration like when your team mates feel it is better to scout behind rather than try and seal off the enemy spawn point ahead of you.
@sinalefa yeah, I was thinking it be cool if we could pass the rainmaker around like a pig skin (no forward passing) to really add a sport element to it.
I wonder if it'll support gyro controls? After spending countless hours of Splatoon, I don't think I can play a shooter without it. Twin stick controls feel so archaic now.
