Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The Master Trials DLC?

Asaki

Now that Nintendo has detailed the DLC...I am not interested in replaying the game any time soon, so I don't need any of these features for a few years yet. I'm hoping the second DLC will be much more impressive, and worthy of $20. This first pack just feels like the free Shy Guys you got when you pre-ordered the Mario Kart 8 DLC.

@ZurapiiYohane Don't you get them from scanning Amiibos?

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the New Nintendo 2DS XL?

Asaki

@PlywoodStick That's exactly what I meant. I know people say they can't wait to pull out their Switch at the office and play some Zelda, but you're not going to see many people playing one on the bus, or kids bringing them to school. Being portable just means it's way easier to bring one to a friends' house, even if they don't have a TV. But I think most people will mostly leave it docked, or play it in a different room when the TV is in use, or maybe play it in the bathroom.

I don't know why everyone freaks out about 3DS versus Switch and Nintendo losing sales. Switch may be portable, but it is not a handheld device, and does not do most of the things that Nintendo's handheld line does.
You are not going to see a group of people at the anime convention this year pulling Switches out of their pockets to do some virtual trading.

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Director and Producer Leave Message For Fans in Official Guide

"first, we placed a countless number of "points" throughout the vast world of Breath of the Wild. Then, as we went through and actually played the game, we would make those "points" larger, smaller, or move them around"
This is exactly how I thought they built the game, I think I even mentioned it in an earlier comment I made. It did feel a little painfully obvious, especially areas that they obviously put a lot of care into, but you could easily climb over and bypass the whole area (like the Lake Hylia tower).

Re: Aonuma Says That Open World Is Here to Stay in Zelda Games

@SirAileron The sword controls were the best part, though, IMO. Bow controls were kind of fun too...I forgot about bomb rolling, that would've been pretty useful in several places in BotW. I'm also very surprised that although BotW is using Havok physics, they took out the feature of knocking down Bokoblin watch towers.

I didn't know you could swing Magnesis faster with gyro controls; I turned them off before the game even started. I thought they were kind of okay in the 3DS games, but it's pretty awkward to try to coordinate that when you're sitting comfortably. SS, most of the time I was in a standing/active position.

Re: Aonuma Says That Open World Is Here to Stay in Zelda Games

Asaki

As good as BotW is, I think Nintendo could do a much better job next time. There are a LOT of areas where they built the terrain to lead you slowly towards your goal, with tons of monster battles on the way...but since you can just climb over everything, there's no reason to subject yourself to those trials. The scripted sections tend to get a bit weird when you sequence-break, also. I feel like they originally had something closer to TP/SS built, and then at some point decided to let you climb everything (not just trees and vines), so they just re-arranged the key locations a bit, and greatly stretched out the landscapes inbetween them. I've found at least one place where the in-game text doesn't match the actual map, and I wonder if there's more in there.

@SirAileron I think people mean that the motion controls from Skyward Sword are gone now. I know I miss them quite a bit, especially against monsters with shields, but time marches on...

Re: A New Patch Is Available for Breath of the Wild on Switch

Asaki

@seiseki "Nintendo needs to stop caring so much about graphics, reduce the graphics quality and bring the framerate up."

You'll notice that the areas with the worst framerates also have the highest concentration of NPCs. I could be wrong, but my suspicion is that the lower framerate is due to AI loops overloading the CPU, and not to do with graphics.

Re: Feature: What Happens When you Play Breath of the Wild as a Multiplayer Game?

Asaki

"We discussed experiences, feeding each other tips and wildly speculating on what a crumbled wall that doesn't succumb to bombs might mean."
The very first Zelda game was intentionally designed this way. It's really awesome to see a lot of the best bits from past titles all mashed together into one game...although I'm hoping there will be some dungeons to explore later on.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th January (North America)

Asaki

Just for the record, Kung-Fu Heroes and Little Ninja Bros are awesome (both from the Super Chinese series). On one hand, it's a shame they're not coming out on the 3DS, but on the other hand, those games are much more enjoyable with another player.

Re: Soapbox: It's High Time Seiken Densetsu 3 Got A Western Release

Asaki

I really need to replay this game, it was amazing. So much better than Secret of Mana...but then again, IMO, so was the first Seiken Densetsu (Legend of Mana) ¬_¬

Nintendo Power told us that SoM2 would be a while, and while we waited, we could play Secret of Evermore!

...ehhh...

Re: Review: River City: Tokyo Rumble (3DS)

Asaki

I was excited about this game, but those graphics look like some fan made it for their college programming class. The screenshots in the eShop look even worse.
Maybe I'll grab it if it ever has a really cheap sale, but it doesn't look very professional.

@HappyMaskedGuy I stopped reading IGN when they gave WCW Mayhem a great review...and then I quickly learned that you can't return games after you open them =|
