Bases Loaded is considered to be something of a classic with North America NES players, and many rejoiced when the title got a new lease of life via the Virtual Console service a while back.
Those same fans will no doubt be tickled pink to discovered that the game is getting a sequel of sorts in the form of Bases Loaded 2016.
Expected to launch in Japan this year - where the franchise is known as Moero!! Pro Yakyuu - the game uses an 8-bit graphical style and will be launched as a 3DS eShop title for 864 Yen. It will include a two-player mode via a local connection and will allow players to create their own athlete and team using the game's editor mode.
Mebius and Clarice Games are the ones behind the new version, and a PS4 edition was announced last year.
There's no word on whether or not we can expect to see this game in the west.

never heard of the franchise before, looks very retro! very much doubt we'd get this in the UK
Perhaps tag the headline with [Japan]? Otherwise, you might have some sore westerners on your hands.
Cool! I hope it makes it here.
I did not see this coming! My dad and I would love to play this again! ....but they put another multiplayer game on handhelds instead of the Wii U, so that won't be happening. I have a 3DS, but he does not. Looks like a great couch game like the old days. Kind of a shame....that is, if the US even gets it.
i loved this as a kid. I would get it day 1 if it came to US.
I doubt it
@MarinaKat Check out MLB Power Pros on Wii and play it on your Wii U in Wii Mode. It's the last good baseball game I can think of that was on a Nintendo system.
Bases Loaded was OK. Bases Loaded II was better. Still cool to see this get a 'resurrection'.
80s and 90s was the best time to be a gamer
I loved me some bases loaded back in the day but I don't think I could even tolerate it unless major changes came and I'm not even talking about visuals either. It needs to be far more deep and I doubt that will happen.
Ah...the love I had playing this game! This will definitely be a day one purchase for me! Now, let's get some of the other greats that I remembered playing...Mutant League Hockey, Mutant League Football, The Goonies 2, Astyanax, Low G Man, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Battletoads, Dejavu, Fester's Quest, World Of Illusion, Chip And Dale's Rescue Rangers, Ducktales 2, Wizards And Warriors, Castlevania Bloodline, Cool Spot and I could mention a few others! I'd love to be able to download these, considering my NES and Genesis is starting to act out in bad ways!
@bezerker99 MLB Pros was and still is a fine game! Backyard Sports Sandlot Sluggers wasn't too bad either...Mario Super Sluggers was good too. Yeah, we need some non-realistic baseball games back on the marked to just feel good and fun to play with family and friends!
@Whopper744 I agree with you! I'd love to play this game, I think an 8bit game with modern menus sounds great and arcade sports is definitely my favorite sports genre, but most of my friends just don't have 3DS systems. It's much easier to just hand someone a Wii U Pro. Anyway, at least we have the new Mario Sports Superstars game thats coming ou-... no wait thats for 3DS too. xP
Baseball Stars for NES would be better. That was a great game.
I'm more of a Tecmo Baseball kinda guy
If it doesn't come to the US, the publisher is dumb. Everyone in the US played this game back in the day! Although my fave was always Baseball Stars.
I will definitely check it out when it makes it here.
Yep, definitely getting this if it comes to NA.
Baseball is super low on my list of favorite real-life sports (never played it; can barely stand to watch it), but at this rate I'll take any sports game that comes to the 3DS and like it (have had the VC Bases Loaded for a while, plus Arc Style Baseball--both are good for multiplayer, but custom players really sells this one for me!).
@JLPick Your first two games are especially top-notch. They definitely don't make them like that anymore (although I guess you could say Rocket League is the closest spiritual successor to that "sports, but weird" lineage even though it's cars and not freaks sadly).
It looks like they're taking the right approach. They tried to revive RBI and Tecmo Bowl and both failed miserably. I think the simplistic (but fun!) old sports games that are revived need to feel like enhanced versions of the old game... modernizing them screws up a lot of what made them fun.
Bases Loaded was fine, but the NES version of Baseball All-Stars (specifically Baseball All-Stars 2) was WAY better.
I would love to see this come west.
The NES/SNES baseball titles never really kept my attention the way the basketball and football (come at me) titles did. When I wanted to play baseball games I would always head to the PC. Probably wasted a few hundred hours in the old Hardball III, the one with the 1993 expansion clubs (and California Angels to boot)
@Priceless_Spork They are owned by completely different companies. That's like saying Warner Brothers should have made a new Avengers movie instead of Justice League.
Love this game, still have the gameboy cart Bring it to my 3ds!
Jersey all the way! Paste and Bay are the Bash Brothers, and the pitcher Rose has like a 2.00 ERA.
I wish the new RBI Baseball games took this same retro approach...
Anyway, I'd buy this if it came out for the Wii U. No interest in a 3DS version. Plus, who knows if it'll even come to the US anyway.
Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball (that's a mouthful) for the SNES will always be my fave baseball game, though it doesn't have a prayer of getting a VC release. I never played a Bases Loaded game or any other NES baseball game, but I do own (and love for its cheesiness) the World of Power Bases Loaded II book. I'll probably check out the game if it comes to NA, especially if it gets a PS4 release. Shovel Knight is GORGEOUS on my HDTV.
Baseball Simulator 1.000 would be awesome too
I'll keep waiting for Bad News Baseball to make a return.
This is a day 1 buy if it comes West.
@bezerker99: Loved MLB Power Pros. I look forward to this.
I don't really play any sports games (except for Virtua Tennis) but I did love Blades of Steel. Sad it never came to 3DS VC. I am not a fan of American football or baseball though.
