Just when you thought that it couldn't get any better playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, here comes an update to make things even more "pleasant". When you boot up the game next you should hopefully receive update 1.1.2, which offers the following benefits according to Nintendo's own patch notes:
Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.
As for what specifically has been improved we cannot say, categorically, however reports of Korok Forest running more smoothly and Moblin bashing being better than ever are a few improvements that we have stumbled across.
Let us know what improvements you have noticed in this very pleasant game with a comment below.

If only this was for stability. If stables could let us keep the other animal mounts that'd be awesome.
Great. After some stressful battling last night (against moblins, not the framerate) I would like to unwind with a more pleasant and cerebral experience
Let me guess? It's more stable, right?
Devs Take Note: You can continue to optimize your Switch games after launch, no matter how lazy you were with development (cough, lego city, cough)
It apparently also removes the arrow farming glitch.
@Pichuka97 looking at u insert any Ubisoft game here
Secrecy is fine. But on game updates ? Come on.
I hope we will see some improvements in the WiiU version as well.
I'd love an official statement for what exactly have been improved, but I guess experiment and discover for ourselves are...fun, right?
I just hope they haven't changed anything on the farming of star fragments. I was planning to use NL's guide this weekend to get me some rupees!
One little question: Do we lose memory-space everytime a update arrives? I have the Wii u version and a big harddrive, but rather not spend memory-space on nonsense like updates. I mean the updates are forced on you, and I am fully content with the game. I can live with framerate-droppings, I don't need those updates.
Same with other games, some have lots of updates. I just wonder if that eats memory-space.
Now if those updates solve game-breaking bugs (wich shouldn't be there to begin with) or add stuff (that can be fun), its okay. But they always should give you the option. Not force it on you! Because they force it, it probably has to do with piracy!
@Henmii Most of the time updates exchange data. Therefore the difference in occupied memory-space is small. On the WiiU you can check this in Data management.
What's different about moblin bashing?
@ROBLOGNICK Yeah that was my biggest takeaway from this update, and after I had just learned about the trick it's taken away.
@Chandlero,
Hopefully! I will mark down the size of the current update and see if things change when the next update arrives. Wich might be pretty soon from the looks of it.
Oh, I did forget something: If I don't want a update I could play the game without the wifi-connection. But that would be cumbersome for when I want to visit the e-shop. Or when I want to buy the season-pass (who knows). Ah well, I keep it as is.
@Henmii The update 1.1.2 is already there
I know, downloading in a few minutes. But I write the size down, and compare it with version 1.1.3.
I will have to check it out once the DLC arrives as I've already 100% the game.
Nice. Should be in for an almost flawless experience when I replay this on hard mode later in the year.
I do wish it would come with some sort of patch notes, instead it stealthily installs as I noticed when I turned my Switch on this morning to play my morning session of Zelda.
Idk why but I am having serious Deja Vu right now
More pleasant, eh?
Does this mean that the Guardians, Moblins and Divine Beasts will now go easy on me? =P
Why are they so insistent on not actually telling people what the patch is doing to their game?!
If they really improved Moblin bashing then it's great, those monsters always suprised me, there is so much going on in the adventure, so many huge powerful enemies, and yet those guys are the only ones dropping the framerate to 0 when hitted (seriously, yesterday my game even froze for a full second as I was hitting one of them XD).
@Moon Blimey! I am nowhere near finished yet and I will still be a long way off 100% when I finally beat Ganon. Did you use guides for things like Korok seeds or have you covered every square foot of Hyrule?!
I heard they removed the arrow exploit. I'm sure they are coming for other fun stuff next. Ride to the ceiling as long as you can, folks, Daddy Nintendo is going to take away your toy soon.
@Chandlero,
You are right! I checked the update data of version 1.1.1: 2318 MB.
Then I checked after the new update: Still 2318 MB. Thank goodness!
So these kind of updates are what the rest of my Wii U storage will be filled with now, is that how it is?
The game is already more polished and bugfree than most other open world games ever made, so I'm not sure I appreciate having all these globs of data coming in.
1.1.2 is 162 MB? Really? So they took away some data and added some other then ended up at the same total size.
Cumulative update data size on European Switch version:
Version 1.1.0: 216 MB
Version 1.1.1: 162 MB
@SanderEvers
"Ofcourse update data is stored on internal or SD memory. With the 1.1.2 update Breath of the Wild takes 162MB of software data on the Switch."
@brandonbwii the game usually freezes for a second when it calculates moblin ragdoll physics(when knocking one unconscious)
this is probably what they fixed.
it came to the Wii U too!!!
The experience is already very pleasant.
its to do with the direct is my guess
My only worry is that these patches might introduce new bugs to what has been a bug-free experience for me!
@Moon Is there actually a percentage completion meter in the game? I can't find it.
@PixelJared It didn't pop up for me until I'd killed Ganon for the first time.
Eventually got a microSD card for my Switch. After turning it on with it, notice Zelda got a new patch. Haven't gotten in to explore the possible changes, but there is some glitched treasure chests that needs attention.
Version 1.1.2 improves the AI of a certain boss in the game...
@sleepinglion Ah I understand...thanks for the info
@BionicDodo I did use a guide for the Korok Seeds after finding about 400 or so by myself. Kinda wished I'd used the guide from the beginning as it was such a pain finding them. I'm over 210 hours into the game.
@PixelJared There's no percentage meter, but I've gotten to a point where I'd say everything is basically done... Every Korok Seed, all armour upgraded, every picture in the compendium, etc. I don't have any amiibo outfits, though.
Change Quest and Chest rewards to Items found in Amiibo and you will be in my good graces. Until then I trash on this game for your filthy greed. 7/10
The update is on WiiU too. I hope it fixes the freezing issue when you hit a moblin. Yesterday the game froze for several seconds when I fought a moblin near Death Mountain. I don't remember this happening before 1.1.1 patch.
http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25569/~/how-to-update-legend-of-zelda%3A-breath-of-the-wild-(wii-u)
I wished that media outlets started remebering that the game is on Wii U too. Many media outlets (Nintendo Life included) reported this news as if it were Switch exclusive. The Wii U version is not even in the related games list on this article.
@EternalDragonX Nice bonuses from amiibo that people constantly complain they don't do enough with that aren't even remotely the nicest armor in the game = filthy greed? Good to know.
@Jajeongeo register your horse at a stable for saddle. It makes your ride more stable.
@Jajeongeo You're probably not far enough into the game to get alternate saddles yet. I have one set I bought, and another I got from a sidequest.
There's still some slight pausing wheb fighting against Moblins in my experience...
@MailOrderNinja Because you can get Epona and Wolf Link in the game any other way? I don't care what the tunics do or how crappy they are. It's better than getting 50 rupees as a reward from an hr long quest. Like i said, greed.
@Captain_Gonru There was a way to farm infinite arrows from Bokoblins on horseback (or something like that).
@EternalDragonX You have to reward people that spend more money with you. It's very basic business.
People who only bought the game but didn't buy any amiibo get the amazing privilege of playing the game. Those that also bought the amiibo (and if you bought all The Legend of Zelda ones then you've spent an additional £150 (or equivalent in your currency) so they should get some additional benefits.
@Captain_Gonru "Was it on the pathway going up the mountain, behind the Woodland Stable, above a shrine"
I think he was fighting Colonel Mustard in the kitchen with a candlestick.
Would be nice if Nintendo Life remembered that Zelda U was a thing.
@big_bad_bob No kidding? You'd think with the 3DS, "stability" is their term for anti-hacking measures. But no, it's just their way to avoid saying "We done goofed," and they can't be bothered to tell us how.
@RainbowGazelle Standard Japanese business practice. Never admit errors. Especially to outsiders. Spend fortunes fixing even tiny problems, tell no one, fix it quietly, and deny the problem ever existed to begin with. You can't LEAVE the problem, you have to fix it, but you must make sure nobody ever knew there was a problem to fix either.
In contrast to the Western philosiphy that makes bombastic "aren't we awesome?!" statements about partially fixing glaring problems that never should have existed to begin with
As frustrating as it is with games, it's a lot worse with hardware, let alone cars and industrial equipment
@rjejr "I think he was fighting Colonel Mustard in the kitchen with a candlestick. " You realize Thanos and I are probably the only people that GET that reference, right?
@NEStalgia I got the reference.
It's funny how on Steam or other games, when there is an improvement it'll state what it was. Nintendo just states that it's "a more pleasant experience." LoL! I'm sure it's pleasant but... what made it more pleasant, Nintendo? Details, man. Details!
@Chandlero I ran across a website that both consoles got the update. Can't recall if it was IGN or what but I would assume they updated both systems.
@Captain_Gonru This one was at the volcano area and was the worst case I had experienced. It could have been at the area you said, or near it. But I had this issue at other places on the last couple of days.
@Danpal65 Great joke, great point. I feel this so much, haha.
This is the kind of move that just annoys me. Why was is so important to remove a small exploit that only helps players a small bit if they choose to just stand in place and catch some arrows?
I guess the only reason some of the famous Mario 1-up loops became classic is because they couldn't "update" the cartridges once the players had them. If something is a problem glitch, fix it. If it's just a little loophole for those that want to use it to gain a slight buff then leave it alone. They act like we're all playing in an official contest and must follow the rules to not have an unfair advantage over other players.
Hey, Moblins jerk their heads around as they approach and Keese make you waste a lot of arrows. What did it hurt to let people stockpile some if they want to take the time?
@NEStalgia "You realize Thanos and I are probably the only people that GET that reference, right?"
I felt bad that Gonru wrote it that way but 98% of the people here weren't going to get it so I figured I'd comment. He'll get it, he's one of us. I'm 50-50 he wrote it that way on porpoise.
@Henmii The issue of forced updates really bothered me with Smash. I never have had any intention of buying any of the dlc and I don't play online, only local multiplayer. The update for smash was pretty large, well over 1 GB if I recall correctly and I didn't want it taking up precious hard drive space, so I have to turn off wifi every time I want to play it. Seriously annoying...
At least these Breath of the wild updates don't take up extra space.
@EternalDragonX That is fundamentally how consumerism works. If you want something enough that you feel is worth the moneym you buy it. If you don't than you abstain. You don't get to make the argument it should be free because you don't want to buy it.
@tedko You think that's bad? My PS4 has games that constantly want to download patches between 14-25GB. And when I turn downloads off it STILL wants to download! I go through the same wifi off loop with that
@Jajeongeo SPOILER At East Akala Stable during the day there is a girl working by the horses. I can't think of her name at the moment, but if you talk to her, she'll offer to change your horse's gear and main.
They certainly haven't fixed that glitch where Guardians can fall through the ground... Maybe they fixed the Blood Moon so it can't happen during boss fights (or side quest objectives) and mess them up.
Weird, there is no update for Wii U BotW. Also strange that wasn't the Shovel Knight add on supposed to be released to other platforms already or is it coming soon? I don't remember.
After the update I noticed that now shows 55.999.999 rupees on my load file!!!! What the hell?!!
.... naah. Just kidding
@Captain_Gonru Finally.
@tedko,
Yeah, I believe the Smash updates where pretty big.
I was playing yesterday (WIiU) and at least Korok Forest still killed framerate
@Jajeongeo Go to a horse stable. There you can register horses and they will give you a saddle!
@Captain_Gonru Trust me, I'm happier to shut up about them than you are to stop reading my posts. Did Link really need 3 more amiibo though, I think that makes 10
SSB Link
Toon Link
Rider
Archer
WW
8 bit
OoT
Majoras Mask
Skyward Sword
TP
And that isn't even counting Wolf Link b/c I consider that to be Midna riding a wolf form. So 10 Link amiibo. Do you remember when Nintendo launched amiibo saying how great they would be, better than all the other toys-to-life b/c you could buy ONE and then use it in many games. And now there are 10 Links.
So f'em, I may not even buy these. I spent 2 days going to 6 stores and looking online for a Wolf Link or Guardian amiibo, even sending my wife to the official Nintendo store in Manhattan, and we still couldn't find either 1. Just f'em. And they didn't even mention the MH Stories amiibo coming west and those are by far the best ones. I'm just sick of playing their stock shortage huh it on eBay game.
@Captain_Gonru "Maybe they'd stop making them if I stopped buying them"
Well yeah, I know why they make them, but I wish they'd be a little louder w/ the "These are limited edition limited time collectibles" headline. Are the NES Mini ever coming back? Will 1 million people buy a Switch at Christmas, 250,000 buy Zelda BotW, only to find out Wolf Link and the other amiibo haven't existed for 9 months? But now there are 3 more Link amiibo when they don't even try to keep the current ones in stock. Let me see 3 Guardian and 4 or 5 Wolf Link amibo in every store, then we can talk about even more Link amiibo. Or just sell them in specially shops or online only, stop shipping 2 to each store as a 1 time only, it's ridiculous.
@RainbowGazelle
It makes them feel powerful.
Wait wait wait people seriously!? nintendo did something to the arrow exploit thing? please tell me how to unistall updates!?
@Jimsbo So are you sure?, they patched the the unlimited arrows glitch?
@Captain_Gonru "In hindsight, I kinda wish I HAD meant to do it."
Lets just go with it was your subconscious typing.
"If they proclaim "limited edition", the resell vultures will snatch them up"
How is that any different than what actually did happen w/ the NES Mini or the early days of the amiibo? Everybody who makes a living on eBay KNOWS this is how Nintendo operates so they just take advantage of what they know is coming, it's the normal people like that woman in Target who gets screwed. At least if they just said it in the first place then EVERYONE would know, not just the scalpers, and try to buy 1 early.
You could be right about a NES Mini remodel, or, they could just announce those 30 NES games for $5 a pop on Switch VC at E3. Ever since they said "1 game per month w/ paid online" you know I've thought it would be those 30 games. If everybody already has a NES Mini they are kinda useless to be giving away. Just watch.
Nintendo can't even tell us if "Hey, Pikmin" is Pikmin 4 or not. They suck at communicating. They just do. I've been saying that for years and I'll never stop. I don't even care about Mother 3, but that seems to be an ongoing issue as well. How long did you wait for official amiibo on Switch? If it weren't for Mario Odyssey I'd still have no use for Switch.
@ROBLOGNICK ouch that is kind of a downer
@Captain_Gonru Is that the baseball announcer? It looked interesting, but like my life in video games I seem to know a lot more about them than actually partake.
Have you had a cold yet this spring? They're so annoying, tying to decide if it's a cold, allergies or both. Sorry, extra innings in the Met game, bored now.
@Captain_Gonru 14th inning stretch just after midnight. Whatever is wrong with me ain't getting better tonight. You take care of yourself.
@Captain_Gonru 12:50AM, made it to the end, though I may have missed a few commercials dazing off. Is dazing off a word? It should be. Maybe in Senran Kagura games.
@Captain_Gonru half shirts and now bikinis
Yes this is a real PS4 game w/ real DOA DLC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA4drstWBAs
I've decided Senran Kagura literally translates to "In the rain like a dog" but sounds better poetically and figuratively as "doggie style in the rain".
I'm looking forward to it coming to the Switch w/ HD rumble and amiibo who's clothes turn invisible when you get them wet.
@Captain_Gonru I can't find our CW show discussion so I'm just putting this here.
Didn't get to recommend more Constanine to Marc b/c I was too busy listening to him tell us how the star of the show spent all of season 4 trying to get him fired so he spent all of season 5 having him keep his shirt on, so no abs. He also said he was trying to find a way to kill him off but I think he was joking. And he got kind of annoyed when we told him we only watch Arrow and Flash b/c Legends sucks. I regretted saying it as soon as it came out, that's like insulting his kids, so I shut up after that. Anyway it was a fun night, as far as awards dinners go, 3 hours of acceptance speeches. The chocolate cake was highlight of the night. Just remembered I took a pic, now I have to see if I can find it and get it on here. Well maybe not right now, it's lunchtime.
You watch last weeks episodes yet? I think we're catching up tomorrow.
@Captain_Gonru Man, it took me like a full 35 seconds to get the air strike reference, I thought it was the new Dos Equis guy. At least I finally got it, there's hope for me yet.
But no, no I didn't. Looking at the pic again I really want another slice though.
@Captain_Gonru Started watching Marvel Agents of Shield w/ the wife and kid. Better than the first time 4 years ago. It helps I think being 42 minutes on NF w/o commercials, no time to talk about how bad everything is every 5 minutes for 3 minutes. Epsidoe 5 was the first 1 we hadn't already watched, we stopped after #4 originally and those 52 guys in red masks and suits w/ briefcases, and it does seem to be picking up and moving forward already. The story, not just Sky in her skivvies (surprised it took that many episodes really) And just read in today's newspaper - I'm an old foggy - that Inhumans starts in the fall on ABC. I know that started on Shield so we'll try to get caught up this summer, I think we can.
Also caught up on CW shows, looking forward to this weeks return of Captain Cold, my favorite character on all of those shows. Also, Brcokmire is moving along nicely, and it seems to be everywhere too, Azaria is everywhere speaking about it, both in and out of character. So my X1 gaming is taking a backseat to tv viewing for the next 3 weeks or so.
@Captain_Gonru I was wondering when this season of Shield would be on NF. CW shows go up 1 week after the season ends but I'm guessing w/ ABC and Hulu w'ell have to wait a little longer.
Google says June 15, not bad, I won't be done w/ 1, 2 + 3 until August anyway.
http://netflixlife.com/2017/03/03/marvels-agents-of-shield-season-4-to-be-released-on-netflix-in-june/
Sky is a brunette Felicity. There is word for word dialogue out of her mouth sometimes that Felicity actually said on Arrow. My wife and I keep explaining to our son - who really likes the show so far - that it is b/c it's the first show like this - Prime Time TV drama - that's he's ever watched, so of course he thinks it's good. It is good for what it is, but my wife and I have seen it all before. We were watching White Collar and Chuck when this first aired, both of those shows in our opinion are far superior to Shield. And Arrow and Flash. Of coruse it's hard for us to like anything after shows like Westworld and Game of Thrones, and I'd say Daredevil is so much better too, Iron Fist not so much, but my son is enjoying it, and we're enjoying it now too, his enthusiasm is contagious. Still dont' think i can watch season 5 w/ commercials though, we'll have to figure something out. Bloody commercials, they ruin everything.
You going to be around in an hour for the AMRS ND? I'll probably be watching, not sure about posting, dinner needs preparing then.
@Captain_Gonru To prepare for more Netflix Marvel shows I watched the Punisher movie today w/ Thomas Jane and John Travolta. It was so bad. Like Legends deserves an Academy Award bad. Like a film student made it and got an F bad. It starred Bulk and Skull from Power Rangers. Bigly bad. Hugely bad.
@Captain_Gonru I liked the first 2 Nolan movies, never saw the 3rd b/c the ads all turned me off. And really, there was never ever going to be any way to follow up Heath Ledger's Joker anyway. And Jack Nicholson's Joker is really the only 1 of the older Batman movies I liked. Some of those older Marvel movies were pretty funny, I think that Captain America 1 may have been made for TV.
My wife and I also hated the first new Captain America movie. My kid who's watched all of the other Marvel movies so far we forced to skip that one b/c we thought it was so bad. So if I thought that was bad, well that wasn't leaving much hope for that Punisher movie. I woudln't let my worst enemy watch it. Capt America wasn't that bad, but too bad for us to sit thru again. If my kid wants to sit thru 90 minutes of bad back story that's up to him.
Up to about ep 9 of Shield, Asgardian staff, shows turning out much better than I thought. Still not a huge fan, but it's tieing in more w/ the movies than I thought. W/ the Inhumans and Ghost Rider coming I'm actually excited to keep going.
Have you ever seen "Thief" w/ James Caan? It's a great, now old, movie. Punisher was kind of the made for TV comedy version of that, which certainly influenced my opinion of it.
@Captain_Gonru "The newest Guardians movie was good, btw"
Good to hear, the trailers at first didn't look very good but they're growing on me.
We are so bad at movies, we really are. Besides being too cheap to pay to see them in the theater - we go about once a year for whatever the really big movie is, recently Star Wars and Avengers - even at home I'm way freaking behind b/c of time, and our youngest son just doen'st like watching movies. Not to throw him under the bus, it certainly isn't all his fault, but we didn't watch Rogue One last weekend bc/ of him, and we were supposed to watch all 6 Tolkien movies this year but he denied it. Which did let us watch all the MCU movies instead so it wast' a total loss.
Movies which I really need to see, should have in theaters, but someone never found babysitting or something.
X-Men Days of Future Past - though I am glad I waited, had a crush on Rogue in my 20's, so want to see the Rogue cut. (Also need to see First Class, but on DVD)
Planet of the Apes - whatever the last one was called, Rise?
Star Trek Beyond - was supposed to go for my birthday last year, still not sure what happened, oh yeah, saw a play instead, Spamalot
Moives I want to see
last 2 or 3 Transformer, forget how many I'm behind, btu not in theaters
last few Fast & Furious movies. The first was great, skipped 2 and 3 on principal, so starting w/ #4 I guess
Mad Max - big fan of the originals
I want to see the DC movies but all the reviews keep scaring me off, but I feel I should
Logan - but I want to see all of the other X-Men movies first
I really dont' know what I do w/ my life, besides complain about all the stuff I don't do Time to go sit in the hammock and mope I guess, yard work later
@Captain_Gonru Darksiders: Warmastered Edition
Have you played it before? I played it, original version, PS+ rental I think, way back when, really enjoyed it.
And if you think your movie dates are expensive try a family of four. Long Island really needs one of those 2nd run movie theaters, I saw most of my movies in Kentucky for $2 on Tuesdays 2 months after release. Now the best I can get is $8, but only at 10AM on Tuesdays. So if I take the boys thats $24. Or wait for $1 from Redbox. Easy choice most of the time.
Xox - My 1 month $1 Gold trial expired, a few days later they offered me another one, so I took it. Playing Fallout 4 now, then I'll get a 14 day free trial of Game Pass 1 week each for GoW 2 and 3. It's the gift that keeps on giving. I'm still trading it in though.
TV - finished Brockmire, waiting on last epsidoes of Flash and Arrow this weekend. Shield keeps getting better.
@Captain_Gonru "she wasn't as keen on me narrating my life in a Brockmire voice."
I've deleted 3 different comments b/c none of them was as funny as yours so you win. I don't think my wife would like it, too manly. Maybe I'll have her watch them all w/ me before next season starts next year, it was pretty funny. And I think she hates Joe Buck too.
Enjoy Darksiders. I only played about a 3rd of D2 awhile back, wasn't enthused enough to continue. I've given up on Fallout 4, can't figure out how to power my robot suit and me and Cogsworth are full. Going to give Overwatch a try, free this weekend as well, though it really ins't my thing.
Don't forget to go outside and bbq, it's Memorial Day weekend, summer begins. A cold and cloudy 65' summer, but still. My parents always bbq and we watch my childhood hometown parade. Used to be huge, now lasts about 8 minutes. But it's a tradition.
