I have always tried to paint myself as a physical collector but it is getting a but silly now. Does it really matter in 2025? At least the key cards allow me to put something on my shelf, and you can sell them on. I don't like it but I feel like I am holing on to something that I say I care about more than I actually do. I have the Mario Kart World download code and it is way more convenient to have that game permanently in the console
People are rightly worried about game preservation, but in 50 years all these games will have been dumped online anyway, or exist in other forms. I can't see a situation where a well loved game vanishes forever. It's funny in a way because if we had downloads and the internet in the 80s then these rare classics that have been lost due to their limited physical releases being lost or binned would be more likely to exist as Roms somewhere.
I don't like it, but I have grown to accept it. It's when consoles go full subscription only that we are in trouble.
What more can they do with Mario Kart at this point? Like Smash they have kinda painted themselves into a corner as those games were the best of everything the genre had to offer. 24 racers is different, but it is unlikely to make any real difference to the game. I am struggling to see what rabbit they can pull out of the hat for me to say, yeah this is a step up from MK 8.
I loved the original game, thought it was amazing, but I don't think anyone outside real die-hard fans cares for this. The game has been milked more than Capcom does with Street Fighter releases. The best way to play Shovel Kinight is with the original character on the original game, so yeah I am not gonna go out and buy it again.
Must be at the point, or nearing it where these re-stocks are the last. Amiibo clearly isn't a part of Nintendo's future. I stopped the amiibo collecting a while back, but got 7 from this re-stock as I don't think we will ever see them again after this. Shame no Pac Man
It's a great collection but it kills me that the original Arcade game has the awful rerecorded into soundtrack. I get why, but that audio was a major part of my nostalgia for the game. I just skip the intro now.
2015 was awful. They had nothing at all Amiibo Festival and Ultra Smash. 2016 was equally *****, but at least at the end we had the excitement of the Switch and Zelda around the corner. 2020 has not been great but hardly fair on Nintendo when you consider the world is on fire at the moment. Although seems there isn't going to be a big game this Christmas.
Generally it is more interesting to put the human character into the crazy Sega world, rather than dump Sonic into ours. But it's the cheaper option so that's what you get.
Tempted with the special edition but agree with Steel76. I never ever look through an Art book more then once. My compromise is that I pre ordered the amiibo. Has a use in game and looks a lot better on the shelf with a collection. £80 is way to much as well. If the base game is likely gonna be £40 at a lot of places
Splash wave and Stratefox have the best production I have ever seen for video game documentaries. I urge you to check out his other videos. They deserve so much more press then they get. Well done to Nintendolife for giving the guy an angle.
Great gsme still. But the visuals look very dark and muddy on the screen. Playable but definitely showing it's age. The base game is still amazing however
Pretty sure you can't do VR on a 720p screen and it be fun..people seem very keen and trusting on whoever is providing these rumours though. Guess they would need a higher spec system to make it work and that would be a good selling point for it. We will see. But really doubt VR can run well on the switch as it is
Wouldn't the joycons being attached make it pointless. No 2 player on the go. No motion control gaming. Unless you use spare normal joycons which just lumps the price back up and has you carrying more stuff then you did to begin with. They cant make it less powerful either for obvious reasons. Seems a waste of time
Never sure why there has to be an official announcement that something is finished. I have no real opinion on the 3DS now I have a Switch. And being an adult, all the latest promotions and games are not put towards me anyway. So to me it is finished and has been for 2 years.
But young children still use theirs I imagine. I don't think Nintendo need to make more games for it, but keeping it in the news is a good idea as it is still the best way to get young kids (Nintendo's future) into their products. Keeping it bubbling away for the 4-10 year old market is fine. It doesn't hurt me as it takes up limited resources and keeps youngsters happy.
The reason I imagine those new games didn't sell is because those kids get the unit and then get Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario for £20 and are done.
The demo was bright and colourful but I just got bored. Felt like I was wasting my time, the lack of challenge meant I was not getting much satisfaction and with no real story or narrative I had no real reason to want to keep going. When it ended I felt like I had had my fill. For a young gamer however they could do a lot worse and they 100% need to be rewarded too for their Switch purchase.
From the way it's listed on the Nintendo UK store page. It looks like it's called smash bros 2018...although I'm aware it isn't. I'd actually like a less is more approach. I'd rather 30 - 40 balanced characters then a kitchen sink approach of everything ever considered thrown into the game. Kinda dilutes the experience it a bit for me if there are 60 characters with numerous clones etc
Will be advertised as a new game not a port, but will run off an enhanced version of the Wii U engine. Id imagine Wii Fit Trainer, Mii fighters, Shulk and a few others can be cast aside in favour of new more up to date characters. Id like a proper single player mode.
When you think how long the original gameboy lasted I guess you could see the 3DS still going even with very outdated specs. The big difference here is that Nintendo will probably not make a NEW handheld device after 3DS. They have the Switch so I don't see a new handheld filling any gap in the market. Why would you buy it over the Switch. The 3DS works because it is now dirt cheap and already has tons of games. I don't think the console would be released now, but it works as it has that 7 year legacy. I dont see any point in killing it off as suddenly Nintendo have nothing to offer those whom don't have £300 to invest in the Nintendo eco system.
Had my Wii U since launch and felt day one it was doomed as I waited 2 hours for it to update. So many mistakes. The games all played it super safe (how many side-scrolling platformers do you need) The system UI was awful, it cost too much to produce and was under powered. Switch has been the exact opposite, loved it from the moment it arrived. It is great hardware, but more importantly Nintendo have put great adventurous games out that people want to play.
doubt it is a game. I know its not technically a new way to play from a physical sense, but playing online is a 'different' way to play. To me it matches with the focus on kids in the statement, as Nintendo really wants online to be something that children can enjoy without parental concern, seems to be a hugely important part of that service for them. Maybe it is that but with a Nintendo twist like miiverse was.....It does seem however to be worded in a way that suggests a physical element. I just don't see how that works when the company is only just getting round to meeting demand for the original console.
@AG_Awesome Normally its only a few days. The idea being to stop all the bogus news and keeping the hype contained over a short period. Obviously that has not really worked this time.
Like other people, I believe it is not real. But in no way have you confirmed its fake. Both reasons you give can be explained away. Especially regarding the Youtube logo, as (pointed out by others)the same thing exists on PS4. As for the MK thing. Maybe its a demo of the game or different version used to test stability.
I assume it is still a fake but this article doesn't confirm my opinion in any way
Current 1st party-ish games slated for 2018.....kirby yoshi bayonetta 3 right ? Nintendo went big on yr 1. Few franchises have the same pull as Mario, Zelda, kart and Splatoon (in Japan) worried we will see lots of middle of the road games. Yoshi and Kirby for example look fun but I'm not gonna book the day of work to play them. I would LOVE GameCube VC tho. Resident evil 4 and remake be amazing on the go. Can't see Metroid releasing in 2018 . Most hyped Switch game so far to be fair is Street Fighter Collection.
Just to say the ghostbusters and ac/dc tables are actually only a couple of years old despite their retro source material they are 2 of the newest stern tables
@WhistleFish I meant struggling as in where they take their products next. Seems just upping the gfx to 4k isn't attracting people. I feel Nintendo has more growth to grab in their particular market that's all.
At this point I don't really see the trend fading. This is just how it will be now. The Switch is a success its not going to suddenly die in 2018. Pokemon is gonna come to it for goodness sake. Numbers will get smaller as always happens but we still high in relation to PS4. By the time the numbers dwindle im sure Nintendo will release a new model with 1080p screen and VR capability or something. The Switch seems to have a blue ocean ahead of it in regards to where to take it next. Something XBox and Sony are currently struggling with.
the 2DS XL edition for the holiday's seems to be the Pokemon one. Nothing wrong with promoting the cheaper model for the young-uns. Remember Nintendo is targeting kids as little as 5yrs old.
The Explorers edition looks cool but id only really want the map having already go the limited edition guide book. As for the season pass I think it would be pretty poor move on Nintendo's front to screw over all the early adopters whom paid for it separately to included it free of charge here
@BlackenedHalo Not finished the game yet but from Super Mario World the idea of Mario games was to give a plesent fun ride to Bowser and then open up on the hard levels. 2D games are slightly different as they allow a lot less room to explore, but I dont really remember Mario 64 being 'hard' . things take a number attempts but its not a skill test like a 2d mario game. I am hearing Odyssey ramps up though so hang in there and enjoy the ride.
By misleading I mean that the numbers are not as impressive. I dont in any way feel deceived. I am just saying that the numbers need to be taken in context.
Great results but a bit misleading. Nintendo has 3 different hardware items on sale compared to Sony and Microsofts 1. Also the fact that the Ps4 has been out for 4yrs almost. Still pretty obvious that the console has legs . It's got a good string Xmas line up. I'd imagine Mario almost doing 1 to 1 sales .
Got this over a week ago so been around a while. They did similar with another Switch game. Cant remember off the top of my head what it was though. Maybe FIFA. It went as soon as the game was released so I guess they only have so many codes. Would imagine price will go up again after release
Tt games always have these issues especially on Nintendo consoles. They don't seem to care at all about bugs and glitches . It's a shame as in other aspects these games can be great fun .
Plays great so far for me. I never get fully into all the modes, I just like the odd game here and there . So this is fine for me. I'm sure if this version sells well we will start to see other features. I'm more then satisfied so far.
To those worried about losing their digital library, am I missing something ? Cant you just download all the games you own to an SD card so you have them kept somewhere and then transfer them to and from the main console when you want to play them. Or is that function not part of the WII U without the store ? I never owned enough on WII U to know.
Amazon have just sold out is all, mine has been dispatched fine. Bit annoying there are no reviews out there, but unless the game goes backwards from the preview builds then it shouldn't be that much of an issue.
TT Games seem to have got a reputation for games being hugely unoptimised for Nintendo hardware and having appalling bugs all round. I am a huge Lego fan but when did they last release a game that didn't require several updates to iron out its flaws. They same to take a 'we will fix it in post' view on game releases.
45 minutes is a lot of time for Nintendo these days. My wishful thinking is that they need the extra time because they are going to be explaining something. So not just trailers and release notes but going in depth into something new that takes time. My hope is achievements and virtual console. UI 2.0 . Either way there is bound to be something for everyone in 45 mins.
I remember paying £64.99 for ISS PRO 64....on the N64. While Saturn games and PS1 games were £40 This is not a new thing. Having said that Switch games seem to be holding value a lot more then other platforms so I guess you would get the money back in trade at a later date.
As others have said Smyths is a pretty easy place to get a Switch. I work from home so have more free time then others, but its seems if you really really want one in the UK you can get one. It takes a bit of effort but not like in Japan and the US where it just isn't possible to find one full stop . The UK though is a weak nintendo market. The next few months is 3rd party territory until Mario in October (Rabbids is Ubisoft and Pokken is Namco) so be interesting to see how things move during that period.
Like some have said. I like this site and its enthusiasm towards Nintendo, but it is losing a some of its status with its review scores. I have always thought 'Edge' magazine really hard to please so when they gave Breath of the Wild a 10 I knew it meant something. Over the years they have given so few 10s that it really feels like an event. I tend to ignore the scores here as they are just not accurate. ARMS a 9 ??? There is a balance and everyone has a right to their opinion, but I fail to see how Splatoon is a 10. Especially as this review went up before the the servers had even been tested. If all these early games are 10s then where do we go from here ?
Unless you really like 3D it has kinda lost its place in the market. the 2DS XL is £130 the small new 3DS was £150. Id rather save £20 and have that screen real estate. Also including the Switch Nintendo would have been producing 5 hardware SKUs and the SNES mini. Thats insane. I loved the way the smaller model looked with the buttons and customization options but the XL model was a much better gameplay experience.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the original 2DS go soon. It is now the only model without the new hardware, which most be a pain to have to make from a production line perspective. much better to have the units all using the same components
It's basically the case in this country too. U can't buy one from Amazon and the official Nintendo Store just has a couple of bundles left. It's being phased out. The plates were cool. But the so model is a lot better to use . The normal 3ds screen just seems tiny these days .

Re: The Smaller New Nintendo 3DS is Discontinued Globally - An Era Ends
Re: Production Of The Standard-Sized New Nintendo 3DS Ends In Japan
It's basically the case in this country too. U can't buy one from Amazon and the official Nintendo Store just has a couple of bundles left. It's being phased out. The plates were cool. But the so model is a lot better to use . The normal 3ds screen just seems tiny these days .
