Lego James Bond. Seems an obvious choice to me. Definitely getting this closer to Xmas when hopefully a sale is on. My problem though is that If I pick it up on Wii U am I going to be in a situation next year where I need to buy again on the next Nintendo console ? I know is a bit crazy to predict so far in advance, but the way they talk about this as 'a platform in a platform' maybe it makes more sense to get it on one that will last a few years. Its tricky as I would always ideally have a game like this on my Nintendo console.
This reads as a poor game that has the usual paragraph of optimism attached to the end, by a site that is dedicated to the brand the game is on. I am in no way knocking this approach as it is great that Nintendolife approach all Nintendo games in the same enthusiastic way. That being said if even they can't seem to talk TOO positively about it, I think it will struggle elsewhere. I am mainly a solo player and was hoping this title would somehow have a decent 1 player campaign. If anything it seems to have taken a step back from four swords. It might work in Japan to have local and online multiplayer at the forefront of a handheld, but not in the West. Even games like Monster Hunter have great single player elements. I just can't seen kids or adults playing this for long. The quests seem quite long so what happens if the same quest keeps getting voted for when you want to play. What if someone's wifi signal drops out (its on a handheld after all) Good luck to those whom it appeals to but I cant seem to see the hook for the wider majority.
Is the Angry Sun quite hard to predict in terms on enemy placement ? I think some people would be able to find good uses for it, but I think it's "randomness" could mess with level design if not planned really well. From what I remember the Sun was only used as a 'theme' and the levels revolved around it, and little else. It is not the kind of thing you could easily combine into a standard level. Obviously all extra content is amazing, just trying to give reason as to why it might not have been included in the first place
Interesting insight. But are all the jump cuts really necessary. I am a video editor and this constant jump cutting makes it hard for me to concentrate on the interesting things they are saying. great info though
Haptic feedback is pretty amazing when at the cutting edge of its tech. It can be programmed to simulate different surfaces and textures. It's got amazing potential in the right hands. Along with the other diagrams 'all taken with a pinch of salt' it isn't hard to see a controller with fewer buttons and more touch control. Haptic feedback tricks the brain into feeling edges and layers of touch (just ask apple) so feels a lot different too just what is currently available on touch screen devices. If the unit is to be used as a portable device as well as a home controller then less physical buttons makes more sense for transport. It also allows companies to program their own triggers and inputs into the touch device. If true people would be up in arms about its radical nature, but it would offer a unique way to approach gaming in the home which is what Nintendo strives to do and all Nintendo would have to do is allow the system to support the pro controller to keep everyone happy anyway. Look at the Wii and remember how well that did. Less moving parts means easier production, less chance of defect ability to adjust button layout to different trends.
Not saying for one minute any of this is accurate. But I can't see Nintendo coming to the table next year with a more powerful Wii u. It needs to have the usp.
Xenoblade is not of interest to many people who don't own a Wii U. They have a swath of games that tickle that rpg/adventure itch on PS4 an XBOX. To the install base of the Wii U (over the age of 12) however I think it is of more interest the Star Fox and the casual Mario Tennis and Animal Crossing Games. Parents might kid those for their kids ( the below 12 age range) especially if they push hard the Amiibo functionality. I see a lot of kids opening Amiibo on Christmas day.
Out of all of this I just hope Nintendo pushes all its weight for Star Fox behind Xenoblade as it could be the bit of luck it needs to itself established, so that the next game in the series starts with an established broad fanbase.
Also don't forget Japan (arguably Nintendo's biggest market) has Monster Hunter X and the fire emblem cross over.
As a last point I would not rule out some kind of rushed out idea to help spark WII U Interest. Bundle WII U consoles with a download code for a Zelda U demo....massive long shot, but would create buzz
I imagine cool names will play a big part in levels standing out from the crowd. Much like you might by a book based on its title. A great level with a simplistic name may not get the love of a crappy level that uses a great play on words. Call a level Mega Man XI and it will get more plays then 'crazy crazy floating platforms' etc.....Cant wait to play this on Sunday once I am finally done with work. Feels like a huge moment in Nintendo history.
Another one of my design ideas taken before release. It is annoying how lots of the good ideas have already been created by all the people with pre release copies. So many things I wanted to experiment with have now already been done. Still obviously looking fwd to the game.
I know this is a Nintendo zone but think of people pre ordering the insanely priced Uncharted 4 special edition for £99 Just for an extra steel book and a art book. If that screws up its £500. Got my pre order from Nintendo too with the tshirt. Not a big fan of GAME these days. Seem to be the UK version of USA's Gamestop in terms of reputation from customers
Sooo. with a big grain of salt. The new Nintendo system uses an SD cards instead of discs....Hey isn't there already a SD card Nintendo system and don't phones use it too... what a coincidence. A system that has one input that accepts ds, 3ds, Nintendo mobile and 'NEW NX' games on card makes a lot of sense. Allowing people to take their games from big to small screen and back again.
Id want an optical drive as the UK is not ready for digital only. Servers crashing every release day as everyone goes online etc. but if so I can still see Nintendo selling boxed retail copies. Seems every game has a special edition these days. Instead of a disc though you simply get a download code in the box. Either way its way way too early to have any real idea what they are planning
Think it's probably a case of him taking it upon himself to answer questions about the whole of Nintendo from a reasonable small position on the tree house team. I get why it happened. Nintendo is still a closed shop and has people who's job it is to tow the company line and project the image they want.
Have a feeling you might get small dlc packs. Probably for free. So maybe a christmas pack to drive interest in December of a set of snow based levels. Or a set of levels with a star fox theme when it releases. Just to help generate continued press coverage. With this and happy home designer Ninty have two games that can be extended with updates long after release. Facebook is a good place to start 'press wise'
Wouldn't be surprised some time next year to see a physical release of Sonic 1,2,3 and knuckles all in 3D on the 3DS. Am I right in thinking 2016 will be one of Sonic's anniversary years ? By the look of the quality of the first two ports it would be worth the money too.
I picked one up. In that position of not enough stars for anything amazing but too much to waste on wallpapers and ringtones. At least this has an actual use rather then just as a dust collector, and the club Nintendo logo makes it worth more then when they just grab stuff of the Nintendo store that you can buy anywhere
@Sanicranfast I dunno if thieves are gonna rob a truck I had to let them near my t shirt. It is pretty cool, although GAME were giving away the hat as a freebie, which was awesome
pre order is available again on the nintendo store, with the free tshirt. I was tempted by the reduced £23 they offered me the standard copy for. But in the grand scheme of things the special edition is where its at. Considering the Amibo's themselves are going for £19.99 on Amazon etc.........AND YOU GET THE FREE TSHIRT that I will never wear in public.
@Grumblevolcano But they all have the same purpose. Like many things have different colour variants but only one is required. Im just interested to see how far this goes and weather the bubble will burst. I have an image of myself moving house in 5 years and having lots of amiibo dumped in a box without a care as something new has come along. Hasn't stopped me pre-ordering like a crazy person however.
Can't see why anyone would want three of the same Amiibo but in different colours. But it is Sold out, so I guess lots of people. I wonder where the tipping point is. If there was 4 colours or 5, would people still jump on it so quick ? I got the green pack pre ordered on shopto, but thats my limit. Paying £77 for a game and 3 identical toys is crazy to me.
Aussie New Zealand early releases are probably down to supply and shipping concerns. Countries are a lot closer to Japan. Easier to manage. The same situation works with store exclusivity in the US . Its easier to supply one store brand and let them do the leg work then have to provide for every US bricks and Morter rerailer in the country. Especially in a country that size. Uk will get theirs once they have sorted Oz. Do think it would sell a lot better with some sort of funky paint job as its just a bog standard wii u otherwise in a cool box
Dead is a deliberately negative phrase. But winding down ? Yes, of course. You tell consumers a new product is coming so some will wait. And really if you haven't brought a wii u by now, you probably never will. I'm a big Nintendo fan, and i suspect the NX will support wii u games, maybe Zelda. I like the idea of - I play mario on my NX then download the world I'm on (not the whole game just the world) to my new 3ds and take it with me. Find a wifi hotspot and upload my data back to the system or multiplayer with someon at home on the NX. Either the media attention has moved towards NX not wii u, why would Nintendo do that with the announcement unless they wanted that attention.

Cant really be any negative response to this. When you see the disasters of tony hawks etc, its great Nintendo still has quality control.
