Who is buying a Wii U? That's not a troll comment. I've had one sInce launch but surely these sales must largely be replacements for faulty systems. Unlike the xbox and ps4 I never see any Wii U console sales. And at £250 it's not in the impulse purchase bracket... I'd be interested to know on a local level how much they sell.... to me this is the calm before the storm... Nintendo despite this report are turning a corner. Pokemon and mario run are going to be massive and switch is getting lots of good press
As some may have already said, those NSMB 2 and Tamadotchi life sales are almost entirely down to 2ds bundles that have been on sale. I don't in any way try to put a positive spin on Nintendo sales for the next 5 months. It's Pokemon and then the Switch everything else outside of that will have little to no impact on sales......Nes classic aside. Good news is the switch has got a lot of love in the press and around the Web so should change the playing field for Nintendo in March
People know it exists now and have a good idea weather the idea will appeal to them. No need to say more and have it lost in the Christmas craziness. In January they announce deals and then can have a constant uninterrupted hype train building for 3 months. If the announced everything now then the general public would probably forget about it as they are all playing with their new iphone and other gadgets around Christmas. I remember pre ordering the PS VR in Marchand was super excited. But it is hard to retain that intensity for 7 months. I want to know everything now as I love Nintendo, but this to me is the best strategy for everyone else.
I wouldn't worry about it being a step back from the Wii U in power terms. In my limited knowledge mobile technology like the nvidia shield etc are even in their most basic form more powerful then the Wii U Nintendo would have to source their components from a dumpster for it it be less powerful then the Wii U in 2016.
Nintendo's eshop is rather poor value for money. Games stay at around £50 when other retailers have been selling them for £35 for months. Mario Kart 8 for example at Amazon. So Nintendo given me a 20% discount just means I am still paying more then a physical copy that I can keep and sell on and is not tied to my console. Nintendo still does not get the digital world and my Nintendo is poor. I also find it confusing between having a Nintendo Network ID as well. They two systems should be one in the same.
Rock bottom development costs on the Wii. Why bother making it for Wii U. Game is one of those things parents pick up to play at a Christmas party and never touch again. 100 million Wii consoles collecting dust is still 100 million potential sales. And can be played on Wii U anyway.....basically I'm saying it's a cost cutting measure to maximise profits off parents who don't know better
Didn't read like an 8 (i hate that phrase but not sure how else to deacribe it)seems to be an enjoyable game but there were a fair few flaws listed in that review. The game seems a bit shallow. Which is my problem with paper mario. Not a detailed rpg or enough in the other direction. I won't get the time to play it with it being such a busy season and as a working adult but I tip my hat to what is the last Wii U game of any importance.....zelda to me is a NX game first and foremost from a sales perspective
I really hope it is October. I need time to save £ for one. Also I never use my Wii U anymore and would sell it now, but I hang on to it as I have no idea what NX will offer. Will I need to system transfer my Nintendo id for example ? The only thing I can think is that Nintendo are waiting for a 'hype window' a period of maybe a month or a couple of weeks where there are no other big hardware announcements to steal the limelight and column inches. Xbox one s is done. I phone 7 is done. Next week vr is done...but then there is the ps4 pro....plus all the big Xmas games...I'd say sometime around late October is a good date but I have no idea anymore with nintendo. Wouldn't surprise me if they waited till January. Although I think that would be a mistake as their quite young fan Base needs time to save money.
Also consider that the lack of mystery mushrooms could be down to license issues. Pokemon company capcom etc probably only signed deals for the Wii U version.
If you can imagine that it is possible to fill the screen with objects.....the trick often used for speeding up the delivery truck when you first get the game.....Then I can understand how taxing it would be to display all those items in 3d. I think if there was 3d then there would be a much lower item limit on screen.
Yeah basically. The 3ds port can be patched to kingdom come, so I am not too bothered about the lack of certain features at the moment. Think they would be foolish not to use the cartridge slot for that purpose.
Was thinking after yesterday's direct. That the NX might be backwards compatible with 3ds games. (Turn an ipad/Wii U tablet on its side and remove the 3ds hinge and you get enough screen real estate) it would explain all the Wii U to 3ds ports. And allow people to player mario maker and smash day1 on the NX
By the fact they are going to the effort of rereleasing the game (which carries an expense in itself) and are putting together a whole direct themed around it, Id like to think that the update offers something more than just amiibo support. I can only assume they are moving the happy home designer concept over to the new mobile app and will then integrate that in with the main game. I will pick up the new physical copy as I never played it first time round and I hope it offers enough to rejuvenate the current community too.
To those asking... I'd be 99% sure these are physical releases. Deep Silver taking all that time and money acquiring publishing rights too simply upload a rom to the eshop doesn't sound like a great idea.
The Discounts so far generally seem pointless. I've stopped looking at my Nintendo. It's designed to encourage people to buy of the eshop but the discounts are still more expensive then a good hard retail copy. Dlc discounts for 3 yr old games don't set the world alight either. Guess it is a product of Nintendo's huge lack of new games. Last Wii U game I brought was Mario Maker almost a yr ago.
So far I am liking what I hear. It all sounds easy to use. Basically a tablet but with Nintendo games and decent controls. And as a previous picture shows, playstation have separating their pad since ps1 and that was great for fighters from what i remember.
I still however can't imagine a world where I know what NX actually is. It seems like some sort of distant dream
@AVahne I am assuming that for 'on tv play' at least that there will be a dedicated controller that they will support, be it the wii u pro controller or similar. There has also been talk of interchangeable components similar to the xbox elite controller.
Either way I imagine that Nintendo will have a controller that supports their most important mascot . Heres hoping we get the full lowdown soon
Split d pad makes sense if they want the 4 directions to act as the equivalent as the xyab buttons for the left side of the device. Being joined would mean a lot more human error. This way the layout is basically a mirror when used in the 2 player way suggested before
The good reviews seem to be from Nintendo minded sites (although some of them still dont like it) so sites that rate and compare games in a nintendo bubble. The low scores seem to be from those whom judge it in a fully open multi platform space......personally i tend to on average value those reviews more.....ultimately no good single player counts me out same is it does for most games of that ilck
making it an app for smart watches would mean only people with smart watches could use it. It is a wrist strap designed for kids to wear day in day out at a price parents can afford (its very over priced still). Thats why it is made the way it is. Pretty sure it will still sell well but not as well as it would have done near release.
I think Nintendo got complacent. They thought after the wii they could just release anything and it would sell. I think a 'hungry' Nintendo is much better, a company that has to prove itself in the market. So I think the NX will benefit from that. I remember plugging my Wii U in on Day one and thinking......'wow this thing is super slow' and then playing games with no substance.Nintendo Land and 2d Mario game (NSMBU WAS AWESOME THOUGH) it was really half baked for the 1st 12 months. By which time it was already too late.
Pretty sure they are not hating on Nintendo. They are vocalising the opinion some people have had on the Nes mini and using that as a way to introduce this story. This is amazing, but Nintendo has no desire I imagine to be tied to the nes mini for any longer then necessary. Push it out at Christmas and then months later it is old news. They don't need the production costs of all the carts. It is just a cool thing to boost their Christmas sales and have people 'thinking about' Nintendo as we go into the NX launch period. I know it is easy to just look at the hard core gamer market but Nintendo has always focused on what mostly appeals to the mass market audience first and foremost.
This is however a great machine and they guy whom made it is a hero.
I have had these. It plays 40 megadrive games really badly and has no save states. Good luck playing Pantasy Star in one sitting.
The Nes has 30 genuine classics. Games that still play well today. This has about 10 and then a bunch of games that were not great when new.
This cannot be compared to the nes. Nintendo is taking charge and its an official product. AT Games have simply licensed the SEGA name and just churned out this. It wont be a collectors item as some have said. It is basically worthless. All these games are available on Steam in much better condition.
Do many people want these ? The Shovel Knight one had the addition of a cool manual and was a bit of a cult classic across all platforms. Are these games really that popular that people want them on disc with no extra frills thrown in. Maybe they will become collectors items down the line as I cant see them being sold in huge quantitites.
These are more toys designed to tempt kids then quality figures. They look like happy meal quality. Fans will eat it up and quite rightly as they arr official merch but id rather pre order elsewhere and save a few quid as im not really into the franchise in a collecting sense.
See no reason why Nintendo would shut down the servers. People are still playing the game and there is no replacement until at least March next yr. Considering Nintendo have 1 game lined up for release until then, I think its safe to assume they wont be cutting themselves off even further. It would just deny them profits.....also it has been out just over a yr a lot less then smash and kart
gonna be a lot of Disney shaped plastic in land fill in the coming years. Considering the amount I see in CEX and Game second hand these things are not going to be worth much. None were ever considered rare to my knowledge. I feel sorry for Parents as some will have spent hundreds on what they thought would last longer then 3 years.
The whole toys to life genre seems to be going south though. There is only so far you can take it, and people seem to be noticing how little value there really is in the sets. Amiibos went from being hard to find to being on sale every time I look.
Also to point out, In my opinion this is not Nintendo taking the time to show Zelda to the max, this is Nintendo having nothing else to show. If they had a Metroid, Mario, Animal Crossing coming out this year I am pretty sure this broadcast would not be so Zelda focused. Also it is odd that after seeing it I imagine my first reaction will be ........Now I wonder how this will look on NX........Not....I can't wait to play this next March on my out dated dusty WII U
This is their show time at E3 so this is all we are getting folks. Not sure it is something I am really that fussed about watching live. I obviously want to see Zelda. But I don't need all the developer interviews etc, I just want to see the game and can catch the highlights of that later. The reason for watching these things live normally is to catch all the surprise releases then and there. This obviously isn't happening. Will probably watch and then turn back to the Football when they start going on about how the art design is based on such and such.
It would be really cool as carts are awesome and have monitary value.
But also seeing as all games have updates and patches these days the cpacity of the actual card isnt an issue. All it needs to be able to is hold the base game and DRM. Name me one game that doesnt have a day one patch on ps4 xbox one. Nintendo is a lot better at bug testing but still the smash bros game you are playing today on your wii u is full of patches not on the disc. The disc is used as a access key as much as anything. A lot of the data can be on the internal hard drive.
The propossed ability to therefore be back compatible with 3ds is also not lost on me and would help shift early units
Id imagine some of those 8000 Wii Us are people buying consoles as they break theirs ? I don't see any reason to buy one if you haven't already. I list 4 games coming to the machine and none of them are AAA titles. I got mine day 1 (big mistake) and I have had a fair run at all the games for it. But I don't see how someone without a Wii U is (FOR EXAMPLE) going to wake up a year after Splatoon's release and suddenly want to play it and buy a console.
It also has never seen a price drop apart from Store promotions. You can get a PS4 with a game for £250 yet the Wii U at best is £199-£189.
It has been a disaster of a console. Some of the games have been great, but the console itself has been awful. By that I mean the machine itself has done nothing to complement or improve the game design. Apart from Mario Maker. Although I think a companion app on an ipad could easily handle the job of the game pad there.
I love Nintendo, but I am at the bitter annoyed stage now. I feel like I have to wait close to a year to get anything new to play. That is insane. eshop games don't count in my eyes either.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Lego Star Wars Paper Mario Tokyo Mirage Sessions
That's it, and all but one is being release before August. The only one I will play is Lego Star Wars and I will play that on PS4.
Cant help but take all this news today as negative. Wii u has nothing left. NOTHING. those who say otherwise are wearing the most rose tinted glasses ever. 2017 for zelda and NX may be uncontrollable but it is gonna tank their profits this yr. You would have to be nuts to buy a Wii U now. I think Paper Mario is the 1 game coming out this yr post June and who is gonna play it on wii u. ALSO is the Zelda demo at e3 gonna be on NX or Wii U ?. Basically the message is to forgot about Nintendo until March 2017. I guess they are hoping 3ds and pokemon carry them through. Gonna be really odd having no major nintendo home console output at all for basically 6 months. Im really down about all of this.
I am really interested to see what NX is. It has almost got mythical status now. When it is finally revealed it will be odd living in a world that doesn't have NX rumors.
Nintendo's problem is going to be getting lapsed players back on board. People are not suddenly going to start playing fifa and call of duty on Nintendo just because they can. They need to find a market they can get involved in. It seems they still have a big pull with the Japanese developers like Capcom and Namco Bandi. Making the console home to RPGS and some fighters would be a forsesable step. Final Fantasy coming to the console along with Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter. Xenoblade Chronicles HD version. Soul Caliber, Tekken. Although I doubt those genres will do much for sales outside of Japan. The Wii U seemed to prove that Mario games alone cannot shift consoles, there needs to be more to get the main-stream on board. That to me is going to be Nintendo's hardest job.
I think as a game it will be fine. I have no ownership of the Metroid franchise, so don't mind this. I just hope it has a good single player portion. I didn't pick up Triforce Heroes as it's 90% multiplayer focus had no appeal.
Also wish Nintendo could release games worldwide at the same time. But I guess this way puts less struggle on the servers
Odd list. Most of those games are summer...and beyond. After Star Fox there is nothing left for Nintendo to promote on Wii U that a. Has a release date or b. Is a big title. I dont see them making a big deal over Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It bombed in Japan. Im excited for Zelda simply because it is Zelda as we know nothing about it. But il probably be playing it on NX anyway. Star Fox might very well be my last wii u purchase. Nothing else there takes my fancy. Il get lego star wars on ps4 as the wii u lego ports are a bit below par. Like everyone im just excited for NX news
A companion app for ipads and phones could be equally useful. Instead asking consumers to pay for a large controller, then can use an item they already own and have by their side.
Mario maker and splatoon are gamepad heavy soo makes sense they wont cross over well. Also splatoon could easily handle a sequel which would make more sense. Im more then happy with the new 3ds. It does not need to be a powerhouse just convenient. Make it link well with nx and its a go. Companion apps for example. Buy new zelda u for NX get zelda picross for new 3ds. Complete puzzles to earn rewards in main game.....anyway im happy with remasters. Think they can hit a home run by including a free to start version in with the console of smash 4
Sensible. The whole white ipod minimalist fad ended a while back. Nintendo is a toy company so should try to emulate the likes of lego in branding rather then Apple. RED cases on games be cool too. Just need a console announcemnt now..... Like soon.... please
Also after reading the comments, none of this matters if you can simply plug a pro controller in. Like the game pad this is just an option.....if it is indeed real
Makes some sense to me. After the NX is announced (I am betting it is after Star Fox Zero is released, Wii U sales well drop even more as people wait for the new console. For the original Wii a similar drop was from a huge number to a lower but still decent number. With Wii U that will be from a hugely low number to a number I can't imagine. I mean if you haven't got one by now, why would you buy one. After Star Fox there are 4 games announced for this year exclusive to the console. And Zelda looks to be cross platform. Also stopping production doesn't mean they won't be available. As sales are so low it would probably take a long time for them to sell are the stock they have. And if someone suddenly decides after 4 years they want a Wii u and not an NX I'm sure the second hand market will do them fine. I got a Wii U launch day and have purchased most of the games Nintendo released for it, so I have got my money's worth but it can't be over estimated how much of a failure it has been commercially.
Remember VR isn't just a Playstation Sony thing. It is a thing with a number of other companies. The vita, move etc were just sony devices. VR is a concept and Sony just happen to have the most accessible device. I am (for my sins) a Nintendo fan boy and will buy the NX at launch but it VR will last a while as it is being pushed by some huge players in the game. It also has uses outside of video games, unlike motion controls etc. It is also important to note that unlike the Kinect and other such devices, VR has been around in a prototype phase for a while with real world use and most people seem to agree that it is really good when done well. I think it has legs. I mean motion control died, but it lasted a good 6 years, and made Nintendo a fortune. I hope Nintendo has something truly revolutionary up their sleeve as VR is going to be everywhere come Xmas
For someone who doesn't really wear the tshirts but likes them for around the house and to sleep in, I think it is awesome. So 90s. Id never wear it out but love that they went there....really...went...there
isn't this likely to just be the 'P Wing' of Star Fox. Does not in any way detract from the main game as it is something that most wont use. If it is a P-WING it will have the same effect in mario of shaming you into life of solitude when the game (after your 10 death on the same section) politely asks you if you would like to use it for your next try, being all lovely and patronising

gonna be a lot of Disney shaped plastic in land fill in the coming years.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Its E3 Plans for The Legend of Zelda
Also to point out, In my opinion this is not Nintendo taking the time to show Zelda to the max, this is Nintendo having nothing else to show. If they had a Metroid, Mario, Animal Crossing coming out this year I am pretty sure this broadcast would not be so Zelda focused. Also it is odd that after seeing it I imagine my first reaction will be ........Now I wonder how this will look on NX........Not....I can't wait to play this next March on my out dated dusty WII U
Re: Nintendo Confirms Its E3 Plans for The Legend of Zelda
This is their show time at E3 so this is all we are getting folks. Not sure it is something I am really that fussed about watching live. I obviously want to see Zelda. But I don't need all the developer interviews etc, I just want to see the game and can catch the highlights of that later. The reason for watching these things live normally is to catch all the surprise releases then and there. This obviously isn't happening. Will probably watch and then turn back to the Football when they start going on about how the art design is based on such and such.
Re: Rumour: ROM Chip Maker Macronix Drops Hint Nintendo Could Be Abandoning Optical Storage For NX
Re: Nintendo Financial Results Deliver Profits but Predict Severe Drops in Expected Wii U and 3DS Sales
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
Lego Star Wars
Paper Mario
Tokyo Mirage Sessions
That's it, and all but one is being release before August. The only one I will play is Lego Star Wars and I will play that on PS4.
SAD times
Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Excite A Mainstream Audience in 2016
I am really interested to see what NX is.
Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force Liberates North America This August
I think as a game it will be fine. I have no ownership of the Metroid franchise, so don't mind this. I just hope it has a good single player portion. I didn't pick up Triforce Heroes as it's 90% multiplayer focus had no appeal.
Also wish Nintendo could release games worldwide at the same time. But I guess this way puts less struggle on the servers
Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2016 - Spring Edition
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Planning A Series Of Wii U Remasters For NX
@Captain_gonru
A companion app for ipads and phones could be equally useful. Instead asking consumers to pay for a large controller, then can use an item they already own and have by their side.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Planning A Series Of Wii U Remasters For NX
Mario maker and splatoon are gamepad heavy soo makes sense they wont cross over well. Also splatoon could easily handle a sequel which would make more sense. Im more then happy with the new 3ds. It does not need to be a powerhouse just convenient. Make it link well with nx and its a go. Companion apps for example. Buy new zelda u for NX get zelda picross for new 3ds. Complete puzzles to earn rewards in main game.....anyway im happy with remasters. Think they can hit a home run by including a free to start version in with the console of smash 4
Re: Looks Like Nintendo's Familiar Red And White Branding Is Back For Good
Sensible. The whole white ipod minimalist fad ended a while back. Nintendo is a toy company so should try to emulate the likes of lego in branding rather then Apple. RED cases on games be cool too. Just need a console announcemnt now..... Like soon.... please

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
Also after reading the comments, none of this matters if you can simply plug a pro controller in. Like the game pad this is just an option.....if it is indeed real
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
Not sure it is real, but if the thing has to double as a handheld device as well, then the ergonomics and lack of buttons make sense.
Re: Nikkei Report Suggest That Wii U Production Will End in 2016
Makes some sense to me.
Re: Talking Point: Sony's PlayStation VR Launch Adds Pressure to Nintendo's Holiday - and Perhaps NX - Plans
Re: Nintendo's Official UK Store Opens Up Star Fox Zero Pre-Orders
For someone who doesn't really wear the tshirts but likes them for around the house and to sleep in, I think it is awesome. So 90s. Id never wear it out but love that they went there....really...went...there
Re: Star Fox Zero Will Include An Invincible Mode For Inexperienced Players
isn't this likely to just be the 'P Wing' of Star Fox. Does not in any way detract from the main game as it is something that most wont use. If it is a P-WING it will have the same effect in mario of shaming you into life of solitude when the game (after your 10 death on the same section) politely asks you if you would like to use it for your next try, being all lovely and patronising
