Re: Talking Point: Defining a Sequel and How It Affects Games Like Splatoon 2

Al_Godoy

I don't care too much about Splattoon, but great sequels are not about change, they're about evolution. I remember reading about the problems Nintendo had a long time ago branding Zelda 2 as sequel, since it changed way too many things. So, you see, too many changes can be a problem too.

For instance, the original Super Mario Bros had two sequels on the NES, the first sequel was (known to us as) The Lost levels. It was fun, just a harder version of the same game, and thus, quite unimpressive but still, a good sequel. The other sequel was Super Mario Bros 3 which was an evolution. They added an overworld, more powers, villains with personality, and it became a great sequel, because it evolved the original concept.

For the little things that have been shown, Splattoon 2 seems to fall in with The Lodt levels, which is something they usually do with those COD games. It's more of a repackaging of familiar gameplay with new content. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, after all, this is a game focused on multiplayer and this type of game usually expand instead of evolve. But, maybe in Splattoon 3 we will get a giant leap, as Mario 3 did back in the day. Who knows.

Re: Developer Survey Reveals Worrying Lack Of Interest In Nintendo Switch

Al_Godoy

Maybe the Switch will surpass the Wii U by a couple of millions in sales. But I don't see a big success here. There's zero hype outside of Nintendo-centric sites. And most people want the most powerful version of each game, that's why PC is king and it's followed by the most powerful console, the PS4.

Maybe power does not equal better, but the PS4 has amazing exclusives. It is slowly becoming a brilliant console. And Nintendo just offers the same old games. A remastered Mario Kart and a Super Mario game... Nintendo turned their back on gamers, with the exception of Breath of the Wild. I hope they learned from it.

Re: Take-Two Executive Reiterates Plans for Long Term Support of Switch

Al_Godoy

The biggest AAA games from third-party developers won't arrive on the switch in full form. Most of them are already working on 4k graphics for the mid-gen consoles and PC. I don't believe that Red Dead Redemption 2 could make it to the Switch in full form, even GTA V with its full online capabilities would be a long shot.

Last 2K NBA on the PS4 was a 32 gigs download on day one with updates adding up to it, so Switch players probably getting a nerfed version of that game, also.

The best the Switch can hope for is being a big sales hit, so that these developers will make unique games for it, and not just underpowered ports.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Super Bowl Ad Was a Huge Success, But Why?

Al_Godoy

I love this site, but it is way too biased... The Switch is not convincing gamers, it really isn't.

I can do a version of what the Switch does with my android phone and a Chromecast. Or a tablet and a chromecast, and also the new apple tv is pulling in the same general direction. Admittedly, it is a poorer experience, but who is to say for how long. The software in the mobile industry isn't there yet, but still, the subtleties of superior video game design escape the casuals and the core gamers abandoned Nintendo since the Gamecube era, they just came back briefly for the Wii so they could play with their parents and grandparents and try to make them understand why they spend so much time in front of the TV, but their hearts were in the powerhouse consoles that sat besides those Wii consoles.

I don't know, the more I play with my PS4, the more I feel the breach that Nintendo opened between the consumers and themselves.

Re: Editorial: No, Nintendo Switch Isn't Having a 'Soft Launch', But The Perception is a Problem

Al_Godoy

Many points here are flawed. Like the comparison to the N64, which launched more than 20 years ago, when the landscape was so different.

Also, the argument about having too many games at launch is invalid if you have a console that sells more than 5 million units on the first month like the PS4. Because then you can have up to 5 games selling a million copies on your first month. That's how you get third-party games on board.

Re: Editorial: No, Nintendo Switch Isn't Having a 'Soft Launch', But The Perception is a Problem

Al_Godoy

I asked two co-workers if they would like to buy a Switch at all. They didn't know what I was talking about.

Both of them play video games casually. One plays a lot of sports games, FPS and party games on his PS4, the other is a mobile puzzle gamer mostly and occasionally plays PS4 with his brother. Both around 30 years old.

I insist that excitement has thrown people off balance, this console is dead on arrival. The Wii U had a more exciting launch and we all know had that turned out.

Re: Soapbox: It's Nintendo's Job To Make Switch A Success, Not EA's, Ubisoft's Or Capcom's

Al_Godoy

I get more and more convinced that Nintendo could eventually grow bigger as a videogame maker if they embraced becoming a Third party manufacturer.

They wouldn't need to abandon the hardware business. But they could start making collector oriented hardware like the NES Classic Mini.

But I cannot help but wonder at how much more amazing could a game like Breath of The Wild be if they released it on a PS4. The graphics could improve, the scope could be even bigger and it would rival the sales of the biggest brands out there.

Plus, the Nintendo hardware isn't offering anything new in terms of gameplay, the control scheme could be fitted perfectly in any other console.

Re: Hands On: Putting the Nintendo Switch Hardware Through Its Paces

Al_Godoy

@Syrek24 I have to say I hope you are right.

I'm watching the response and it is a bit a of a Wii U Deja Vu.

E3 is closing in on the horizon. If they show a better lineup there, I'll bite.

Played all Nintendo Consoles, own all of them still. Got a Wii U at launch, and I didn't like any new and exclusive Switch game they showed. Super Mario Odyssey being a particular low point in my opinion.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Al_Godoy

@Tendogamerxxx dude, I've owned every Nintendo console to date. I got my Wii U at launch. This is deja vu. In fact, the launch lineup is worse than the Wii U lineup.

That Mario game looks 2 gens old, it would look better on a ps3.

I feel sad for the big N. At least I can play Zelda on my Wii U. It is the only silver lining in this debacle.

Re: Soapbox: Why I Still Love the Wii U

Al_Godoy

Sharing the love. I am not migrating to the Switch at launch. I got more games than I could finish on my Wii U. Huge backlog of great games. Some of my favorites are:

NSMB 2, DKC TF, Wind Waker HD, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Affordable Space Adventures, Nintendoland, Mario Kart 8, Smash, Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors.

Also enjoyed those early third-party games like Zombie U, Batman Arkham City Armored Edition, Ninja Gaiden 3, Assassin's Creed IV.

The ones I didn't like as much as i would've liked to were Super Mario 3D World, Star Fox Zero, Twilight Princess HD, ZombiU, the Wonderful 101, Sonic Lost World, and Splattoon (sorry, just didn't like it)

The ones I'm looking forward to playing Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Paper Mario.

And some other indie games I loved include Shovel Knight, Guacamelee, Freedom Planet, Steamworld Dig, UnEpic, Axiom Verge, The Fall, Shantae.

I'm leaving stuff out, too. In hindsight, this was truly a great and varied console. And I think I won't abandon it until the end of the year when I might consider grabbing the Switch with an HD Metroid Bundle.

Re: Rumour: Dark Souls 3 and Trilogy Possible on Nintendo Switch, If System Sales Are Solid

Al_Godoy

@KirbyTheVampire Mostly friends that play online games on PS4, none of them are thinking of getting a Switch, they just don't care about Nintendo games anymore and would consider buying them only if they came on their current platform.

The only people I know who want it are current Wii U owners.

BTW, this is just a poorly informed opinion, and I'm aware of that, we still need to see the January presentation. Still, I'm not very optimistic about it.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows Off New Area in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Al_Godoy

It seems like this game is going to be better on the Switch and I don't like that, because I'm not buying a Switch as I am sure that it will fail just like the Wii U did, and I am not going to keep giving Nintendo my money for poorly supported gimmicky consoles.

I know this sounds awful, and this is a site for Big N fans, and I am, I've owned every Nintendo console except the Gamecube and the GBA (because I was in college and low on free time and cash). So this just just makes me feel betrayed.

I got all of those consoles mainly to play Zelda. I've played all Zelda games, and own original and VC versions for MOST of them. And now, instead of the promised exclusive-Wii U-Zelda-that-features-amazing-use-of-the-Gamepad I'm getting the nerfed-Wii U-Zelda-that-we-actually-want-you-to-buy-on-our-new-console.

At this point I champion the idea that Nintendo should release this game on PS4 and X Box One and just go third party for the sake of our wallets and their own as a company. I know it's not going to happen, but I'd prefer that.

I have been doing an informal survey with friends who play online with me on PS4. Most of them made the jump to Sony consoles since the PS2 era, and none of them expressed any interest in the Switch. It was a small sample, but it was unanimous, I mean, something like 15 people, they all said they won't buy the Switch, and the same 15 people said they would buy this game blindfolded on their PS4. We are talking about a user base of around 50 million people just on PS4, it could sell many times more copies than it will on both Nintendo platforms combined.
