Re: Don't Hold Your Breath For Monster Hunter: World On Switch

Al_Godoy

@KingdomHeartsFan you're absolutely right, I could always choose to play on tv mode, that's what I do with Fifa, but in that case I also cherish the possibility of taking it on the go.

But for Monsters Hunter, I am really looking forward to playing it on the most powerful console, since I know for a fact that game, for me, is better suited for a tv and couch experience.

Re: Don't Hold Your Breath For Monster Hunter: World On Switch

Al_Godoy

Even if it did come to Switch I would still get it for the PS4. I loved MH3 on the Wii and MH3U on the Wii U. Then I tried going portable with 4, but couldn't get into it. I don't know, but I didn't like it on the small screen.

More than anything I would love if Capcom gave Nintendo the license to release a 2D Mega Man. Only Nintendo could make a game like that work in this day and age.

Re: Talking Point: The Case for Super Mario Odyssey as the Greatest Mario Game

Al_Godoy

Now that I've finished the main story and an extra I will compare this game with Super Mario World which I think is the real contender here. Even if it seems unfair pitting 2D against 3D.

Abilities: Capture is fine, but it makes the enemies you capture harmless. It is fun, but it detracts from the difficulty. Whereas all abilities in World are flawless, including Yoshi variations.

Worlds: Odyssey takes this one. The different Kingdoms are beautiful and diverse. Worlds in SMW are mostly color variations.

Bosses: also Odyssey. The Koopa family in SMW is pretty repetitive. Bosses in Odyssey are very diverse.

Final showdown: no Mario game has touched the epicness of the final fight in SMW. The introduction of the clown flying vehicle, a staple of the franchise. Odyssey is the closest, maybe tied with Galaxy. I don't want to spoil anything but that one capture near he end is insane.

Those are my four parameters so far and this leaves both games tied in my book.

Re: Poll: Which is the Best Super Mario Game?

Al_Godoy

Terrible poll results. It's all about hype. Super Mario World is the real king of this list. And Odyssey is an amazing game, but it is not the best of them all. I could give it the best 3D Mario vote, but 2D Marios are were the real magic of the series happened.

SMW>SMB3>NSMBW>SMB>Odyssey>SM64

That's my ranking. Maybe I'm just older than most around here.

Re: Bethesda Adopts "Popular Internet Saying" To Promote DOOM On Switch

Al_Godoy

A lot of people don't seem to get it. Doom is not CoD. Doom is a very Arcade-style FPS. It's fast and fun, and great to pick up and play for a little while. Of course there are slower missions to pace the experience.

I own Doom on PS4, I play online multiplayer. I will get it on Switch. It is expensive for an older game, but It seems they really did their job porting it. It is a pretty big game on PS4. 60 gb at least.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Are Trending Well Above Wii U, and Could Even Catch the Wii

Al_Godoy

I want to be optimistic, so I'll say it will eventually catch up to the Wii. Maybe not surpass it, but the race will be close.

I am seeing a bit of a fashion trend with the Switch. I'm guessing it won't be long before a couple of celebrities and social media influencers show up with some Switches decorated with some hip skins and what not and then all the wannabe cool kids will buy one.

In this age of deeper digital interaction, it could potentially blow up. Even if it is just for superficial reasons.

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The 3D Zelda That Enthusiasts Expected?

Al_Godoy

I hope the next Zelda is even further from the old. They should even make a Survival Horror mainline Zelda. I believe they should go nuts.

Breath of the wild is brilliant. Maybe just do HD remasters of the ENTIRE Zelda catalog to satisfy the purists. But I can't go back to: find Bow, find Hammer, find Hookshot, find Bomb bag. It was a tired formula.

I also thought of a Tactical espionage Zelda. BOTW kind of has it, but I mean a real duck-for-cover, place-traps, use-gadgets espionage game, all done with the Zelda aesthetic and lore. Where the gadgets, such as the beetle from Skyward Sword could be used to infiltrate a dungeon and going in and out without being spotted.

I agree with the enemy variety and dungeons point. Shrines were fine, but not memorable. They didn't have distinct personalities like dungeons. The same with the Divine Beasts, they were all beige and dull and repetitive.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Surprising Fanbase is a Major Strength, Which Bodes Well for Switch

Al_Godoy

Most of my inner circle jumped ship between the PS and PS2 era and never came back. Most of my friends know nothing of Nintendo games anymore. I think it is a trend in Latin America. No one at my office has a Switch, no one in my family or my immediate circle. They all have consoles, though. X Boxes and PS4s.

It's weird. I love my PS4. I think something like the Last of Us is probably the greatest game ever developed, but still, I do have that feeling that Nintendo has a certain magic that I can't let go. I wish more people around here felt it too.

This site is the only place I can come to share that.

Re: DOOM Provides a 'Good Reference Point' to What Wolfenstein II Will Offer on Switch

Al_Godoy

@SLIGEACH_EIRE your "old port" argument may work with first party Nintendo titles, but it doesn't have much traction with a game like Doom. Because it came out before the Switch existed, and it is the latest Doom game. It is not a port of last gen console game, it is a current product. And if the Switch had been out when it came out, we could assume that it would have gotten it at the same time as the other consoles

On the other hand, if I may be so bold, I have seen some of your comments on the site and I think i have a solution to your beef with Nintendo: You should bail until the next gen. Forget about Nintendo for while, don't buy a Switch. And I don't mean just in terms of your gaming, but also on the sites you visit. It is clear that your general opinion is based on you not owning a Switch, because if you did, you would love it like the rest of us.

I don't mean to be pedantic, but I don't see the point on the endless criticism of a product you don't really know first hand, when you can actually make your opinion matter with your money.

Unless you like arguing online, which is fine, too.

Re: Preview: Fire Emblem Warriors Could Be The Best Musou Game Yet

Al_Godoy

I like Fire Emblem. It's not my favorite franchise, but I enjoy it. The only Warriors game I've ever played was Hyrule Warriors, which I enjoyed enough to buy both for the Wii U and the 3DS. But for some reason I'm not interested in this. Maybe it is because of the cool upcoming lineup of the Switch. I'd rather spend my money on Doom, LA Noire, Super Mario, etc.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - September 2017

Al_Godoy

I can't get any of these, I got Wolfenstein: The New order AND Old Blood for the PS4 in preparation for my Switch version of Doom.

Of course I'm getting the on-the-go version. If it goes down good I met get the original full-blown PS4 version at a Cyber-Monday price.

Re: Review: Axiom Verge (Switch eShop)

Al_Godoy

Nintendo should make a new 2D Metroid for the Switch inspired by Metroid: Samus Return. I know it is probably imposible, because of Prime 4, but still, it would be a great thing to play.

Re: Poll: A Retro Quest - Were You Able to Buy a Super NES Classic Edition / SNES Mini?

Al_Godoy

My story is rather bleak. I had a pre-order for like two months or so. Suddenly I get an email telling me that the deadline had pass on my payment and the pre-order was cancelled. I saw the email but I couldn't go to any store and try to work out my situation until ten days after I got that email. Why? Well... The email arrived on September the 19th, and I live in Mexico City. So, if you read the news, you'll know we had a pretty massive earthquake that day. So at a time like that you can't get pissed of about a trivial thing like a game console.

But after the literal dust had settled I got angry. I know I shouldn't be mad, and maybe I should value more that I didn't lose as much as other people. But still... So what I did yesterday was donate the full cost of SNES mini to the Red Cross as symbolic gesture.

It didn't help, I'm still pissed. But hey, at least I get to live and complain with you bunch of nerds. Love.

Re: Review: FIFA 18 (Switch)

Al_Godoy

I own a PS4, but I should be getting the Switch version on the mail. I think it looks good enough for a fun portable game.

I'm no too big on FIFA, since I'm more of a American Football fan, although I would never call this game soccer, since I am an educated person.

Joking aside, I'm glad to have a proper FIFA on the go.

Re: Editorial: The SNES Classic Mini, Star Fox, and Downsides to Being a Mega Drive Kid

Al_Godoy

A Sega Kid???? Really???? You should be embarrassed...

Just kidding. The SNES is my favorite console of all-time. Loved those old school JRPGS and one of my favs was the american made Secret of Evermore, that was sadly eclipsed by the more successful Chrono Trigger. Still, one of my favorite games of all time.

I think I could make a great hidden gem and some not so hidden gems version of the SNES mini. With games like Act Raiser, Illusion of Gaia, Aero the Acrobat and some more that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Re: Nintendo is Now 128 Years Old

Al_Godoy

The fondest memory I have is playing The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past with my mom translating for me, because I didn't speak english at the time (I am from Venezuela).

My first Nintendo memory was my NES bundled with Super Mario 2, which I thought was the standard for Mario games... Little did I know.

Nintendo is a huge part of my life. I made a lot of great friends sharing Nintendo games back when it was almost impossible to buy new ones in my home country.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch and Third-Parties - Let's Be Realistic

Al_Godoy

I'm lucky enough to own both a Switch and a PS4, so I don't have too much problems. I will get both Doom and Wolfenstein 2 on my Switch for the portability. I don't mind playing Monster Hunter World on PS4 since I don't like that franchise on portable. The same with bigger more graphically driven franchises like Uncharted, GTA, etc.

However, the Switch has become the main console since last month. The portable aspect is brilliant. Fifa 18 Switch, here I come.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th September

Al_Godoy

My most wanted list is now mainly a third-party part list: LA Noire, Fifa 18, Skyrim and now DOOM and Wolfenstein 2.

I sincerely think those games are gonna be big sellers on the system as well.

I still don't know why, but I'm less hyped about Xenoblade Chronicles 2 now. Somehow I felt it was just more of the same.

Re: Atlus Confirms A Western 3DS Release For The Alliance Alive In Early 2018

Al_Godoy

I really believe the N3DS is my most solid console right now in terms of lineup. I own around 50 games between mayor releases and small indie and VC titles.

It annoys me when I see people asking developers to abandon the 3DS in favor of the Switch. I get it, I own a Switch, but the 3DS is still my airport/bus/travel console and it will continue to be for many years. So the more games and support it gets, the happier I'll be.

The only game I would like to see ported to the Switch with proper dual analog stick controls is Kid Icarus Uprising. That game is a blast and should look amazing on a big HD screen.
