I was expecting more Switch games, but I have to admit that taking out my N3DS XL to pre-load Metroid: Samus Returns, has me rediscovering this amazing little console. I hope 2018 holds a little bit of love for the 3DS still.
Highlights for anyone who might be interested.
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D which is a launch title and I played it maybe4 or 5 years ago, and it still holds up today. Tight controls, fun bite-size gameplay, perfect for a handheld. By the way, there are still people playing online, not many, but there are.
Pushmo: I was about halfway through. Love this game. Great puzzles.
Ace Attorney Trilogy: If you love Nick, you know what I'm talking about.
Nano Assault Neo: Great game, though the C-Stick can be a little bit annoying as a second analog, still... tons of fun.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars: My favorite strategy game on the 3DS. And I own every Fire Emblem title on the console.
Anyway. I own a Switch, but I still don't want the 3DS to be tossed, so I'm glad they are showing some love in this direct.
I never loved this game. To me Luigi got the better end of the Cube with Mansion. Brilliant game, if a bit too short.
The GameCube era was weird for me. I walked away from gaming for while, when I came back to play those games, I enjoyed more third party games than Nintendo's own. Games like Viewtiful Joe, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Rogue Squadron, etc. were my favorite.
Not to say I didn't love that Double Dash and Wind Waker.
I think this could be a great game for Nintendo to show alongside the release of the paid online service. A nice trailer with some great online modes both co-op and competitive. A good opportunity to get people on board with paying for some quality online gaming.
However, this is Nintendo and I am rarely right with my hopes and dreams.
I think it is the perfect game from Rockstar's catalog to bring to the Switch. I played it and had a ton of fun with it on the PS3. I think this particular game is more focused than other games from Rockstar, and is a good point of entry for Nintendo gamers that may no know how great their games are.
@Rumncoke25 yeah... worst case scenario, you return to the PS4 version next year. That's what I'm thinking. Also, I might find some friend with a PS4 copy willing to lend it for while.
@dkxcalibur Nintendo should hire me, if this goes well there are two other friends lined-up to buy and a serious local play of Salmon run in Splatoon 2 . Hope this comes together.
@dkxcalibur it's not just you. I own a PS4 and I am thinking about getting the Switch version so I can take it to the office and play on my "lunch breaks".
I also have a co-worker who also owns a PS4, and is seriously considering buying a Switch, so we can play Fifa in the office.
I'm gonna play Devil's advocate on this one. I know the preorder situation has gotten everyone thinking that this is the NES Classic all over again, but Nintendo did say they were making more units available, maybe there will be a bit more stock out there... I don't know, let's hope.
They have been slowly recovering from the economic crash that the Wii U gave them, maybe things will pick up.
I'll get Mario + Rabbids if the price drops. I was and still am sceptical to that game. I just finished Zelda and I'm currently showing some love to me PS4 backlog. Playing Horizon Zero Dawn and then the Uncharted Nathan Drake Trilogy.
I am so happy I got to place a preorder for this console. I love it. SNES was my childhood. I played a lot of NES, but this was the console that made me love games, and pretty much all those games they are showing.
If I could add some games they would be: Act Raiser, DKC 2 & 3, Mortal Kombat 2, Killer Instinct and Pilotwings.
We don't have this problem in Mexico, although the demand is still greater than the supply. But people are not as eager to get one in advance.
If I were a scalper I'd go nuts selling them to people in the US on Ebay.
What I don't understand is that Nintendo could still sell more NES and SNES mini to this day. Why is it better business to NOT make a highly demanded product? It makes no sense at all.
This reminded me how much Star Fox Zero annoyed me. I really didn't like that game. So centered around a failed gimmick. Looking at two screens at the same time was a pain in the neck and made the learning curve too steep and not worthwhile in the end.
I just finished BOTW on my Switch. I'm playing Horizon Zero Dawn on my PS4. I alternate with some online play on GTA V and Splatoon 2. Plus some handheld Retro City Rampage DX.
It sounds like a I play a lot, but I really don't have as much time as I used to.
I'm currently waiting on Metroid: Return of Samus for 3DS.
Yes, this is the golden age. I dare say it is the beginning of this age.
I got stuck playing Unepic on my Wii U, and didn't finish it. There is a monster that looks like a brain that forces you to drink all of your potions and he killed me like 5 times and I got bored.
Good game, shame, because I was having some fun with it.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I actually don't think the term applies. The Switch makes the Wii U feel like an in-between console. And I used to be on your camp. I wasn't gonna buy a Switch, but got one as birthday present. I know it is mostly subjective, but it is a superior console, it feels like a more realized piece of tech.
I haven't played any game that incorporates the HD rumble thing, and I don't think I'll buy Mario Kart again for the reasons you state in other comments.
However, having played both versions of Breath of the Wild, that game actually feels like it was made for the Switch, at least it seems like the definitive version, which is something that Twilight Princess didn't have on the Wii, for example.
I think that a year into the Switch's lifespan it will be pretty self evident that it is a far superior concept than the Wii U. And I am eating my own words here, because I felt betrayed by Nintendo myself.
I have several friends waiting for Fifa 18 to buy the console. That game is gonna be the official office-break game. Which is amazing, people who own a PS4 are considering getting the Switch's "inferior" Fifa, because it can be played in glorious HD anywhere.
I know anecdotal evidence doesn't count towards industry predictions, but it counts towards "total amount of fun Im having" which is enough for me.
I am surprised at how much fun Splatoon 2 has been for me. Haven't played as much as some crazy kids out there, but it is surprisingly deep. And much improved from the Wii U version, which never hooked me.
Tha legendary Star Fox 2 + Yoshi's Island, a game I never owned but completed thanks to a friend and finally: Super Mario RPG, even though this last one I would rather have on my N3DS, but who knows if they'll add it now.
I need this in my life. I am old enough to have played the NES for a long while, but this is the console that made me a gamer. Most of those games I never got tired of playing.
We don't have that Xenoblade Chronicles 3D discount in North America 😑 I want to buy it. I already own the Wii version, but I want by my side all the time.
@gangsterswedish I also liked it. But It wasn't good enough to overcome the hate it caused among expecting Metroid fans. It is not a bad game, because there is always a certain quality associated with a Nintendo game.
@roy130390 maybe, and you do touch on an interesting subject with that example.
Federation Force catched a lot of heat because of the perceived slight on the Metroid Prime franchise. That even preceded reviews and the release of the game. And when it came out, well, it just wasn't that good a game (I own it BTW). But it stands to reason that Nintendo fans were outraged because it was a "betrayal" of their expectations of what a Metroid game should be, and justifiably so.
Arms is a new IP. It doesn't offend anyone. If you feel it deserves 9/10, that's great. We all like different things, and I am not big on fighting games for that matter.
I said earlier, I am a Nintendo fan and I am biased towards Nintendo most of the time. It's just that this particular review feels a bit pushed towards a success.
I love Nintendo as much as anyone on this site, I love Nintendo so much that even when I decided that I wouldn't get a Switch until more games came out, my girlfriend just assumed I wanted one and got me one for my birthday and I started Breath of The Wild from scratch, even though I was almost finished with the Wii U version. I love my Switch.
Having said that... this game is by no means a 9/10 game, really this just makes me doubt your whole system. And I am not saying the game isn't good, but man, look for other 9/10 games on this same site it just doesn't fit. Maybe you're just trying tu push for Nintendo to be successful but this is not the way.
I don't get why you quote the polls you make in this site, they are so biased. Which is logic, given the name of this site, but still, it is no indication of anything.
We all hope for Nintendo to do well, and most of us will buy the big games no matter what, but that's been true since the Wii U days.
I go against the grain of this site, I did enjoy Horizon more. I appreciate the new lore, the crazy World, the feeling of the unfamiliar. And also the polish
Both games lack a bit in the story department. And Zelda is a bit more fun to play, and more of a jump-in kind of game, which is very Nintendo. Easier to pick up.
However, I am just grateful, for being able to enjoy both games. I love games.
I love the arrogance of some people that say analysts make wild guesses. These guys look at trends, coldly. They don't care about supporting a company, they just present their clients with trends so they can make investment decisions.
Nintendo has a history of launching multiple iterations of their handhelds, sometimes making them smaller. They also know Nintendo is very family friendly, so they think a lot about reaching little kids. I don't think this is all that unlikely.
I think the analysts are right in their predictions, based on the confirmed information we have now. Even for the holiday season, we don't know much about triple A games coming to the Switch. E3 could move the needle either way. if they announce strong first party and third-party support Nintendo could surpass the 8 million mark in 2017. And still, we won't know for sure the destiny of the console, until 2018.
At this point even nintendoomers could be right, as well as the hyper fanboys.
A nice third-party triple A title would make a nice announcement. I still think the Switch is going the way of the Wii U, with stuff like Arms and 1-2 Switch, that most gamers hate.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Teaser Website Goes Live
I never finished the first one on Wii. Is it playable on the N3DS or is it a nightmare on the small screen?
Re: Flight Triumphs Over Invisibility in the Splatoon 2 Splatfest
I dominated winning 9 out of 12 matches for Invisibility. But had a wedding, and couldn't contribute more. Bummer.

@crackafreeze I long for a day when Mallow, Geno and several other characters from Mario RPG will make a triumphant return to us.
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?
I made a "Day One Buy" list:
Metroid: Samus Return, Fifa 18, Mario + Rabbids, Super Mario Odissey, Skyrim.
That's success if you ask me.

@KirbyTheVampire I get that, but I am currently seeing a 75% on Metacritic.
I played the GlobalTestpunch and I'm not buying this game, so yes, this is just my opinion and is not a popular one on a site called Nintendo Life.
I still think 9/10 is too much.

Re: Video: One Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Player Has Discovered The Ultimate Way To Paraglide
Unrelated comment: I wish they did a sequel with the same engine, but dungeon oriented. Less overworld, more puzzles.
It would create a perfect balance, like Ocarina and Majora's did back in the day.
