Am I the only one who thinks tarantulas are way more prolific in this game? New Leaf it took me the better part of a summer to actually find and catch one.
Last night on NH, I left me house, ran five paces, got bit, passed out. Respawned, ran 10 paces got bit again. And then it happened a third time within 10 metres of my house!
Either the game is more dangerous now, or it's trying to tell me to stop playing.
@PhilKenSebben it's actually alright, man. I went back to the DC version recently and the mood/atmosphere holds up pretty well. The controls are a bit janky now, but it's definitely still a good blast.
@JayJ Jolly good. That first sentence applies to me too. I've shown no preference to either side in our discussion, all I've done is ask you a question.
If you do believe I've tried to peddle my own politics, virtue signal, or insult you with my comments however, I apologise in advance and I'd encourage you to re-read. If anything I've just tried my best to be ambivalent. Have a good one.
@JayJ I never mentioned you not being entitled to an opinion. You are completely correct in saying you are entitled to one. Enjoy your opinion, brother.
But I'd encourage you to look up ambivalence. It means to have mixed, or contradictory ideas about something.
And whilst I'm endeavouring to be respectful to your opinion; you don't appear to be in conflict. You've categorically stated that you now feel compelled to not buy the game, simply because some random celebrity has stated she likes it. That's a pretty strong opinion.
Bearing in mind, and correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm guessing you've never met Brie Larson, so you probably have been given a very specific view of her thoughts and opinions through media. I'd also highlight that outside of seeing a few movies with her in, I know nothing about her agenda or political orientation, so I'm not advocating or supporting her views in any capacity.
But if you feel your purchases need to be influenced by her outburst, that's entirely your prerogative. I wouldn't try selling that as a balanced, middling view though. Because it really isn't.
@Zuljaras @JayJ also, if you were middle grounded surely you'd be moving towards total ambivalence regarding her comment, as opposed to actively disliking it...?
I think I'm in the minority here in coming away from that interview feeling quite amused. He clearly doesn't care a great deal about much, which is fine as far as I'm concerned.
@johnvboy it's probably just me. Plus, I've got one of the day 1 Switch units that's showing its age now for sure.
The heat cracks on the top of the unit are affecting both sides, and the fan also rattles at start up now. I treat the unit better than my kids, but I could definitely benefit from a new one. Here's hoping that rumoured pro edition comes out this year...
@Anti-Matter ha, I tend to get physical these days purely for limited edition stuff.
I'll be the first to acknowledge that I'm super lazy with gaming too. The majority of Switch games get carried around in my work bag, so if I'm flopped down in front of the TV then realise I need to go downstairs to get the case to change a title, you know I'm gonna play something on the internal memory instead...
There's also the matter of space. Considering I've been hoarding stuff since NES days across multiple platforms and manufacturers, you know my wife is getting pretty p*ssed about the room I'm taking up...
Urgh, whilst I love me some swag this is gonna be one of those games that's going to be digital. It got on my nerves having to constantly switch discs/cartridges to do my daily gubbins on past iterations, and going digital on 3DS was an absolute godsend.
Given how much it irritates me to have to switch games on my Switch as well (that cartridge cover always feels like its gonna break...), I'm gonna have to go digital again.
@PJOReilly it might just be me. My Switch is a day 1 launch model that's been used excessively. I don't want you to think I'm being dramatic but I could send you footage to show you what I mean; it runs pretty ropey for me all the time. As I said, it's not much of a deal breaker. I commute loads and the majority of playing has been in handheld anyways.
Bought it with Xmas credit. I love it, and have been playing excessively for the past 5 days.
My biggest criticism is it runs like a dog in docked mode. The frame rate, regardless of where you are or what you're doing just goes out the window. Handheld it runs fine. Hopefully a patch will smooth some of the kinks out.
I picked one up for the wife for Xmas. She loves it. I personally prefer the screen quality of the OG unit, but it does have its pros. One being it's far, far more comfortable to hold and the D pad is absolutely lovely.
Behind Empire, TLJ is the best Star Wars film. People forget that when Empire came out that had a VERY vocal base of detractors as well. People were unhappy about the Vadar reveal, and they wanted Leia to hook up with Luke and not Han... but second acts are literally built to frustrate and surprise. If anything, it builds the third and final piece up for ultimate catharsis.
My feeling is a lot of the choices made on TLJ will play into Rise to give it that much more meaning. And in time, people will relax and look at the trilogy with full context and realise they were overreacting just a smidge...
@Dezzy that was my first question. I was tempted to import around console launch but after I'd heard it ran like a dog I've not bothered. Hopefully optimisation will be implemented as opposed to a cut and paste job ✊
Absolutely amazing. I love it. I was wondering where they'd go off the back of the GBC and DS, and was expecting a WiiU pad or something. But this has surpassed my expectations to the nth degree, and has made me incredibly happy!
@Jin15 agreed, whilst the structuring is off it goes into the "so bad its awesome" category and makes itself quite comfortable. Hell, I want the game now to own.
The controls are dire. 100% not for me. Maybe this will appeal to people who are more comfortable with touch screen stuff, but give me a pad any day of the week instead.
I tried but gave up. The controls are terrible. Maybe I'm just old and used to playing it the traditional way, but I just felt more frustrated than anything, which was an odd sensation when playing a new MK game. Not for me.
@Peterjr1 lol, I know right? It's been highlighted that workers are getting a rough deal and people are ranting like it's a bad thing... I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks this is completely mental...
@Kai_ have you read the article? Why would you doubt it? Jason Schreier has proved himself to be on point with the vast majority of his investigative journalism. He also brings to light a lot of the crummy and deplorable practices game designers (the people we love and support, remember...) have to endure. It's hardly sensationalism; he's putting a spotlight on bad behaviours with evidence to back it up. Even if you take the anonymous statements out he's got the Skype messages.
@TempOr arguably, but theres a flaming reddit on the go at the moment about false advertising and writing complaints to the Australian government about their business practices. I'll be the first to say it's a mountain out of a mole hill, but without context the article is vaguely relevant.
@Kalmaro yeah, Bloodstained's status is well upsetting. I cancelled my pre order off the back of reports of rocky performance. I will pick it up at some point, just when the wrinkles are ironed out.
Saying that I had a kickstarter email today (I contributed at development) saying the Switch patch has just been submitted this week, so hopefully things will be better soon.
@Kalmaro I don't know why it wasn't addressed before it was released, and for me to claim otherwise would be a bit remiss, because I've no idea of the inner machinations that go with game development. It does look fairly complicated though.
As someone who's been gaming since the 80s, I get your whole argument and frustration about patching, and to an extent I share it. But things have changed. And not only changed, but evolved at a RIDICULOUSLY fast pace. If you told 8 year old me playing Mario Bros, that 40 year old me would be playing something like Horizon Zero Dawn, I'd swear witchcraft was involved.
My point is, with growth comes pain. Patches are just a staple now. Phones, TV's, cars... any type of integrated electrical product needs them.
Would it be great for everything to be released without needing a tweak? 100% yes. But considering how complex everything is with these games we know and love, it's going to keep happening whether we like it or not.
And FYI, I 100% respect your opinion, and the hug is legitimately there if you want it ❤
@Kalmaro is this a huge thing or something? The patch took about 40 seconds to download. I'm only asking mind because you seem pretty bent out if shape over it.
Do you need a hug? I can hug you if you want, man. We're all friends here x
I actually got a cold sweat reading this. I've got 4 in real life and I play games to escape their harpy-like shrieks, not revisit them. Not for me, people.
@Yas I'd highly recommend the "Cartoons That Time Forgot" volumes too. Mostly UB Iwerks stuff. They're out of print but vol 1 and 2 can still be snagged on Amazon or Ebay for reasonable prices.
