Nintendo has revealed that it will be attending EGX 2019 in style, with tournaments, competitions and plenty of hands-on opportunities to go around.
EGX is the UK's biggest annual gaming show, with unreleased blockbusters and hundreds of indie games just waiting to be played by attendees. This year it's taking place from 17th - 20th October at ExCeL London in the Docklands (more info and tickets are available here). If you're going to the event and take a wander over to the Nintendo stand, you can expect to try out all of these beauties:
- Pokémon Sword and Shield
- Luigi’s Mansion 3
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
- Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition
- LAYTON’S MYSTERY JOURNEY: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy Deluxe Edition
- Super Mario Maker 2
On the Saturday, the Splatoon 2 UK Championship 2019-2020 Qualifier will be taking place. You can find out everything you need to know about the Splatoon 2 UK Championships here, but if you're already thinking of signing up, you can go ahead and pre-register by sending an email to [email protected] with the subject line 'Splatoon 2 Tournament EGX 2019'. Just make sure to provide the names or tags of your team members!
Even if you don't have a full team, Nintendo says that it will "endeavour to match [you] with others looking to create a team if there is space in the tournament".
Then, on the Sunday, Nintendo will host the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate UK Team Cup 2019-2020 Qualifier. Again, make sure to send an email to [email protected] with the subject line 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament EGX 2019' to pre-register for this one, providing the names or tags of your team members. You can also register at the event itself as long as there is still space available.
Finally, there's an exciting-sounding Legend of Zelda cosplay competition taking place, once again on the Saturday. Anyone cosplaying as any character from the franchise can take part in this; you'll be invited on stage between 3pm and 4pm to strut your stuff, with professional cosplayers judging the contest. The winner will receive some tremendous prizes, so it's absolutely worth it if you're on the fence:
- A Nintendo Switch Lite
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Limited Edition
- Link (Link’s Awakening) amiibo
- A The Legend of Zelda themed goody bag from the Nintendo UK Store
Guess what? If you want to take part, make sure to send an email to [email protected] with the subject line 'The Legend of Zelda Cosplay' to register. You'll need to submit your contact details and the name of the character you'll be cosplaying as. Entries for this one will close at 12 noon on 15th October.
Will you be going? Thinking of taking part in any of the activities listed above? Tell us below.

So is this basically E3 for UK?
No ARMS competition anymore ?
ARMS should deserve more love and attention from Nintendo gamers.
@Anti-Matter I just couldn't get into ARMs. I dunno, it just didn't have that magic to keep me playing beyond the test fire events.
I'll be there! The last two years I have used it to try my hand at Switch ports that I fancied, hence why I bought Skyrim and Diablo 3!
@Kalmaro
I have interest with ARMS since i have very strong interest with Boxing / Kickboxing and ARMS is only my "Boxing" game i can depend on.
Peoples are not ready yet to play boxing games in public places but always ready for shooter games Splatoon. 😞🙄
I wont be there this year, the decision to move the event back to London is a kick in the balls to those who wanted a more central event, which is what was handy about it being in Birmingham at the NEC.
Not everything has to be London centric. Completely pisses me off. Screw the rest of the country, if those within the M25 are happy, no one else matters.
I enjoyed it last year but I don’t think I can justify the time off from Uni this year to make the trip down. Although I was planning on going to London anyway so I could take a long weekend.
@SuperJoon I get you man, coming down from Glasgow makes it a bit more of a hassle but that’s always been the case, London’s favoured despite not exactly being central.
Me and a group of friends got our early access tickets for like £12, but i don't know if I can justify spending over quadruple that on the train fares to get to London, really wasn't a good move for most people, Birmingham was much more central and easy to get to. We didn't even go for the games as there as rarely anything too exciting, it was just a cheap day out - not anymore.
I'll be there. Any chance of a NL presence so I can wander over and have a hug?
@Kalmaro E3 for the UK shilled for by this site because their parent company runs it
@ryancraddock This is great news, but when are Nintendolife going to go back to egx?
@nessisonett Yeah. Its more of the fact that its more of a hassle, im not driving and parking up in London, at least at the NEC there was parking I could get to easily.
It was pricey, but I didn't mind paying it. If I didn't drive to London, I would then have to get a train, more cost on top, plus travel and and around London getting to the event.... All seems to build up and as I found on a trip last year, taxis are expensive!
Normally i'd go along, however there's nothing exciting i'm looking forward to until the next-gen consoles are out. The move to London certainly is a kick in the teeth for many people, myself included. Still easy to get to (London that is) and the Tube/DLR isn't too bad to use. But it's London prices that annoy me.
i wish everyone in the Super Smash Bros Ultimate UK Team Cup 2019-2020 a good luck and godspeed.
@AhabSpampurse @dew12333
Yes! We'll be there! Not sure that we have any solid plans just yet, but we'll definitely be milling about at some point. 🙂
@SuperJoon I live in London and totally agree with you. Having a central event meant more people could attend. Some of my friends can't make it this year due to travel and accom costs.
Maybe they could have two- One in London and the other more central.
@SuperJoon here here 💪👍
@Grandiajet well, the idea I said was the alternate the show. If they want it in London, happy day, one year London, the next NEC, rinse and repeat.
Came for BotW 2. "Hands-on" for an already released game is not really exciting.
