During Nintendo's E3 2019 Direct presentation, we got another look at the upcoming title Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. It was also revealed how players would be able to expand their experience with a paid Expansion Pass - including three DLC packs for Fantastic Four, X-Men and Marvel Knights.
Unfortunately, if you were only wanting a few additional characters or one specific DLC pack, you'll still be required to purchase the Expansion Pass. A description on Nintendo's official website states the following:
This paid Expansion Pass includes 3 DLC packs, which will become available as they release one at a time after the launch of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order and will not be sold individually."
There's also a new image on the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 website reinforcing the fact the DLC won't be sold individually:
The first pack is scheduled to arrive in Fall 2019, the second is expected to show up later in the year and the third one is due out next year.
Were you hoping to buy one DLC pack at a time or were you always planning to buy the Expansion Pass? Leave a comment below.

A bit of a shame. But don't care that much.
Don't even know if I would buy them seperately though, my favourites are all in the base game. Maybe not Collosus though.
Eh, it’s at least a decent price and interesting themes so I’ll bite. It’s not like I would buy them individually anyway.
My outrage senses are tingling.
@Timsworld2 I’ll speak with my wallet by buying the game because I think it looks like good fun
“The first pass is scheduled to arrive in Fall 2019, the second is expected to show up later in the year and the third one is due out next year.”
So the first pass is USD 20, containing three packs, and there will be two more passes, likely at a similar price-point, making the combined price of all the DLC around USD 60.
I loathe what video games have become the last 10-12 years. I prefer complete games on launch day, instead of expanding games over a year or two in an attempt to lure more money from the players with over-priced post-launch content.
If I like the game and the story the season pass adds is actually worth the price I’ll buy it after the first dlc is added. (So if the first dlc is good)
'member when MK on the Wii U gave you DLC for a couple bucks that was damn near a sequel in terms of content?
That's really stupid and I'm not surprised people choose to pass on the game entirely because of that.
If the base game is good enough, new content is interesting and we get Moon Knight, Sentry and Doctor Doom as DLC characters, I'll most likely go against my principles and waste money on the season pass.
@BornInNorway81 theres one pass, not 3
@BornInNorway81 The first pack of three in the DLC expansion.
@Bustacap A typo on my end. Fixed!
I see a lot of people here have never shopped at Costco. But seriously. Is it honestly that big of a deal? Just don’t buy the expansion pass. Don’t boycott the entire game. It’s not like this is pay to win, or loot boxing. You still get what you paid for it just doesn’t come parsed out. Minor gripe. Could be better. But $20 for three expansions including new characters, modes, and story. Still pretty dang good. No need to start a war against “greedy soul-sucking corporations”. Just buy the pass or don’t. But don’t bite off your nose to spite your face and skip out on an entire game you’d otherwise enjoy playing.
@tdub154420 I've already bought the game, but cutting content for the sake of selling it separately down the line is never okay. I'm not ruling out a possibility that the DLC content will be developed only after release and sold as such because Nintendo has invested good money into the project, though.
Still not sure yet if the game is for me. I keep going back and forth with it. Id say I'll wait for reviews but being that this game is at the top of alot of peoples hype list, I can see it scoring 9's everywhere
I didn't and don't plan on buying this game but think the overdramatic reaction is a bit much.
No one is forcing you to buy the DLC. Just buy the base game if you want.
Buy this s*** without knowing what you're getting...No thank you.
Eh, exact same thing happened with Breath of the Wild’s Expansion pack, no-one batted an eyelid...
If this is what I have to do to be the ever loving blue eyed thing, this is what I have to do
It's only 20 bucks and it's a single player/couch co-op game so...
I am still getting it. 20 dollars for the pass is fine with me.
@gaga64 my thoughts exactly, not to mention how much it costs to get all the costumes through amiibo
@Timsworld2 I’m buying the game because I want the game. I don’t have to sacrifice my own enjoyment because of anti-consumer practices. Boycott all you want, I’m just gonna read the reviews and have fun with it.
@Timsworld2 or, you know, just carry on as normal if you planned on buying the Pass anyway...
I don't know how much content is in the base game. Kind of annoyed at a season pass, but it might be worth it.
I'm getting the base game, but not the dlc... To many games to play so that should be more than enough content for me.
However, this is anti-consumer and you should be able to buy these separately.... I hope this moves backfires on them.
@Timsworld2 How do you know it's incomplete? Have you played it, beat it? didn't think so.
I thought Nintendo was a good company which didn't do things like this! I'm shocked.
When I read the reviews I'll decide if I want the game. If I get it, I'll play it and then decide if I desperately need more of it.
Until then I'm not really worried about it.
people being outrage over a $20 season pass this is quite reasonable and its not like their charging us over $30 for it like EA or activision would do.
@tdub154420 I'd like to add that I bet a good amount of people saying boycott did not plan on buying it anyway.
@Timsworld2 how would you know the game is incomplete wen its not even out yet plus it has a big roster of characters in it even without the season pass.
@gaga64 I prefer the dlc to be sold separately as an option
But I don’t really care as long as the content added is good and the price is ok
It wouldn't be a Koei Tecmo game without DLC.
I know there is a lot of Marvel fans out there. I’m not. Marvel universe is just a mess of restarts.
And this game looks pretty boring. Especially the graphics. But that’s my opinion. Luckily we also have FE coming very soon. And Astral Chain.
I was considering getting this but after a decision like this I'm gonna pass on this one
They should have ported 1 and 2 instead of this hot garbage.
Unless I enjoy the not so complete game, won't be bother with the cut contents.
@Timsworld2 : Too many retail games nowadays are just paid betas. A good version 1.0 is so hard to find these days.
Meh, everything I've seen and read from E3 suggests that the base game has a bulky amount of content (over 30 playable characters, a leveling system and ways to increase your stats, a skill tree, a hefty list of bosses, plus the infinity trials).
I'd imagine the people buying the DLC would get the pass anyways.
The base number of characters is perfectly fine by me, if you are a diehard Marvel then DLC your heart away. I’m just happy Nintendo resurrected this series, it seems like a great fit for the console and could not have been cheap to procure the rights.
I think this method may work out better. Remember Hyrule Warriors and its 3DS port Legends where characters from a DLC pack were useless outside that DLC pack (e.g. Marin was useless outside the Link's Awakening pack), well if all the DLC was just 1 giant expansion pass released in batches but couldn't be bought separately then those DLC characters could've been useful outside their DLC pack.
I'm interested in the game but not the DLC. I also can't imagine even thinking about putting down money on it without knowing exactly what I'd be getting. I have no idea why people do that. I guess if it comes out and has a bunch of decent story contend/characters I'm interested in and am STILL playing the game at that point then I'd consider it. People seem to be upset by the mere fact that it exists though, which is weird to me.
I put down the full 80 and probably won’t regret it. A 20 dollar pass for more characters, story, and missions themed around X-Men and Fantastic 4 sounds good to me
Meh, I just want to know if the game will turn out well. I did enjoy the 2nd game back on 360, and I like the current roster for this one. Should be alright hopefully.
I mean I was gonna buy all three anyways, so this doesn’t affect me. 😅
@Timsworld2 boycott away. I already preordered it and preloaded it on my Switch, I’ll happily support games I want. Already voted with my wallet! I fail to see how DLC means a game was “incomplete” prior to it releasing, in most cases the game is a full game. That’s what your purchase goes for. Just like going to a restaurant and ordering an entree doesn’t necessarily come with a drink or appetizer. If you want those, you’re free to purchase those, or you can just have your entree and water. Buying a product doesn’t entitle you to add ons, and if the initial product isn’t worth the price to you then you’re never required to buy it.
I’ll get the DLC if I enjoy the full game and I think I’ll play the DLC. That’s what I did with Zelda, Splatoon, and Mario+Rabbids. I thought Zelda and Splatoon’s DLC were a good value, so I bought and enjoyed them. I never finished M+R because I found it to be too difficult for me, so I didn’t buy the DLC, despite enjoying what I played of the base game.
Evaluate for yourself what is best for you!
barley any promotion for this game wouldn't surprise me if the sales are not that good
Not really in to the fantastic four. But I imagine mr fantastic will play brilliantly!
Oooh only 20 bucks. Will snag this when I get my FE3H expansion pass.
If the game if good I will happily buy the pass. Just seems like another frivolous thing for people to get upset about honestly.
I am probably one of the biggest MUA fans but i have too much of a backlog to justify this purchase either way. I hope they do a complete edition or gold edition for cheaper in a year or 2. Hope luanch day buyers enjoy it though. Too busy with xbox game pass and starlink atm.
I’m buying this game and the season pass. I want it, I’m going to play it by myself and co-op with my best friend, just like we played the first two. It looks great and just with the starting roster, leveling up each character and creating dream-teams will be plenty worth the price for this Marvel fan.
@Timsworld2 The only message "the suits" will see is is that people dont want UA games anymore.
Its like when Metroid had a long gap before any new games, rather than "oh, gamers thought it was crap" Nintendo thought "gamers dont want Metroid".
@Timsworld2 Did you buy Breath of the Wild? Bc it did the exact same thing
@Tantani I agree entirely. I’d rather have the option of choosing how much of the DLC I want to buy, or not buy at all. But this isn’t the first time a Nintendo-published game has done this, so the outcry seems a little unfair.
So where does one buy the DLC on eShop???
You guys are ridiculous. The entire expansion pass is $20, not each sold separately for $20. The three packs all come in different intervals throughout the next 6 months from purchasing that one single pass. It's not a $60 DLC as I keep seeing stated.
Secondly, those of you saying this is "cut" content are being absurd. This features the LARGEST ROSTER out of all 5 games (Xmen Legends, Xmen Legends 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2). Not to mention the final roster hasn't even been confirmed, so there may be even more characters that we are unsure of at launch; though I doubt there will be additional inclusions. The game also features nearly 30 bosses that we've seen so far; and every one has a unique fight sequence with move patterns; that's a significant improvement over the last games where it was sort of just a generic brawl for the most part with many of the bosses. This game clearly did not cut corners.
That all being said, do I like DLC? No. I hate the concept of paying more for a game. But in this case, it's relatively cheap and offers a lot for what it's asking. The Fantastic 4 pack must at least come with the Fantastic 4, so that's 4 characters a pack at least likely (for a total of ~12), PLUS new story content AND additional game modes. This is hardly the game to start boycotting DLC content... it's not like there is paid Day-1 DLC that was clearly cut or some such thing that we see with other games.
I don't mind this. After all it's a good deal. And I want to play through it with lots of hours.
@Folv you cant please some people these days and they act like cheapskates as well over $20 for a season pass.
That's mildly silly, but not too bad. I imagine most people who buy the DLC pass would want it all anyway?
@Folv You're fighting a lost cause. Zelda, Fire Emblem & Smash has DLC and people go on how they can't wait for it. Meanwhile, for other games it's an atrocity that needs to be boycotted. And then you have people who complain when there is no DLC because the game isn't being supported beyond the initial release. Someone will always complain, no matter what.
The Marvel DLC seems alright to me, I'll still wait to see what all is in it, but like all other DLC it's purely optional and I'll get the base game regardless as it looks awesome.
@Cotillion Certainly true. I am more just shouting into the void to ease my mind, lol. This is one of the few games where ongoing support would really be quite entertaining. Shame to see a relatively lesser culprit of post-game content being ripped to shreds.
I'll wait till Black Friday time to pick it up cheaper, then add on the pass. At least that should make it a better value for me then.
(Shrugs) Game development costs keep going up. Game prices don’t. Eventually economics kicks in. The more people want cheap games the more publishers will look to other ways to make money.
New Story content could be the reason why DLC packs won't be sold individually.
Story starts in Pack 1 continues into Pack 2 and ends in Pack 3
I've already bought the game and the expansion. Really hyped to be playing it next week.
@electrolite77 then again, on other consoles you can buy the game a year later for $20 with all DLC.
Just wait see if you like what you get.
I didn't get ZBOTW DLC until I saw the review about the last "story DLC". It was a pack and I waited to see if all of it was worth it.
Ehhh if I buy one DLC, I buy ‘em all anyway. Especially when the draw is an expanded roster. I’m still not convinced my Breath of the Wild DLC was entirely worth it.
If it seems worth it, buy it, otherwise don’t. It really is that simple. Me? I’m all over it. I want all the characters I can get!
But... why does it not surprise me you’ve got people in the comments talking about boycotting a video game for selling a $20 expansion pass... you can’t even make this stuff up if you wanted to lol. This is literally the state of the NintendoLife readership today. Absolutely insane. WTH did you expect, them to sell it piecemeal for $1.25 per asset?
Let’s all boycott any video game selling for $60 because they didn’t break it up into 20 $3 pieces. And let’s boycott any game with a $20 expansion pack also because they’re not selling it in half a dozen pieces.
In fact we should boycott Chevrolet for not selling the car’s chassis separately from the gas tank and engine. And let’s boycott Skittles for not selling each individual piece of candy for 5 cents each. Let’s boycott Nintendo Switch for not selling the plastic shell of the system separate from the battery and the motherboard! How dare they!
In fact, video games should be paid for on a sliding scale. You should get to choose how long you play at for and just get pro-rated. I only want one and a half characters from the DLC and if they’re not going to sell me that one and a half characters separately then I’m boycotting the whole game and you should too, because this is an outrage. An outrage I say!
@Roam85
That right there is the correct answer!
I’ve got such a soft spot for the classic FF stories. Their inclusion in the dlc might just convince me to buy this game. If I didn’t have such a backlog of games already, I wouldn’t waver.
Welcome to Nintendohate people. A news website were every single bit of Nintendo news is copied from somewhere else, or has 10s of Amazon links, where the comments hate on everything Nintendo does...
WHAT happened to this site? It used to be so good. Even in the Wii U era, it had reviews for almost all games (including eShop games), in the beginning it was somewhat positive. But it went down hill when the Wii U didn't catch up. And now with the Switch, which is doing really good, this site still acts like Nintendo is trash and hates on everything they do.
And yeah, I noticed this change when "Nintendolife" took over "Pushsquare" it went downhill quickly after that because all Sony fanboys came to this site.
It is strange, then again I have no idea what the DLC will be in the future. If it's JUST characters then yeah, I'll be pissed. I need more info before I dabble
Lol, the crap you people complain about. Don’t buy the dlc if it offends you. The ones not buying the game at all cause of this? Wow... that’s all I gotta say.
@JaxonH
"In fact, video games should be paid for on a sliding scale. You should get to choose how long you play at for and just get pro-rated"
😅
@sanderev Idk, just jump ship to ResetEta or something. You clearly don’t want to be here.
Meh, with how much the Witcher 3 poured into its $20 dollar expansion, I'll never ever see these types of dlc as worth it. A few characters and some missions isn't worth $20 when the Witcher practically gives you a whole other game through blood and wine alone for the same price.
Same reason I never bothered with BotW's dlc which was mainly just a bunch of items and "story" content that should've been in the game to begin with.
@BornInNorway81 It says the first PACK, not the first pass. The three packs are included in the overall pass. So $19.99 for all the DLC.
Gamers are a special kind of people, they fight for JUSTICE!!
Just get a job kids, your mum will be happy then too.
Hard to feel terribly moved by this. If I'm going to buy any DLC for it, $20 is a price I'm probably willing to pay. But chances are good I'll be content with the base game. It's not like they haven't shown plenty of cool characters in the regular game.
Could always just wait for a complete edition down the line. You know it’s coming and it’ll be the same sixty bucks. Just depends if you can wait or not.
Anyone know if this game will have 4 player couch coop? If it doesn't, then I'm not getting it. It would be great to play with my kids I think though if it were
@JaxonH : Haha, it's not just Nintendo Life. It's the world these days. Folks seem to expect everything for cheap or free. They'll boycott movies, games, stores, etc. I think there's a vocal minority that would prefer a totally socialist economy...but I dont think you'd get videogames in that utopia.
But back on topic, I have no problem with this DLC. From the Treehouse's extensive gameplay footage, this game looks great. And it looks like the developers worked hard on this. I'll gladly pay for that.
@BornInNorway81 it's all one price. You pay for it and you get all three. It's not separate.
@JaxonH you clearly have no idea what your talking about.
Wow this topic might have the most upvotes and downvotes I've ever seen.
Anyway, @Folv pretty much nailed exactly how I feel about the situation almost word for word. Really saves me a lot of trouble, this person nailed it completely. This whole situation is silly and proof that gamers will use buzzwords and look for anything to complain about. Bonus props for @JaxonH as well for nailing the same points I was going to nail, just in a more comedic fashion. Chances are the so-called "boycotters" were never going to buy the game in the first place. The hilarity of it all is that we don't even know what characters are coming out yet and the tantrums are already flying.
With that being said though, this is a rather strange decision. My guess is that they're releasing characters in packs of some kind, which explains why the DLC won't actually be coming until Fall and lists team names. Unless they have some good reason for this, I'm hoping they back out on it. It just gives haters an excuse to hate.
It doesn't really matter to me anyway, I typically buy DLC all at once anyway if I buy it. I'm certainly not going to boycott what appears to be an already huge game over optional DLC.
Will there be a physical special edition including the seasonpass at a reduced price?
@Timsworld2 “By buying this game your supporting games being released while their still incomplete. Sad to see you support such anti consumer practices.”
Your exact words. You complained about the game being release “incomplete” and now you’re changing that to “Smash Bros [releasing] their DLC separately. Two entirely different arguments. Don’t change your argument to try to make it look like I didn’t read your comment. Furthermore, don’t come in here accusing people of being “scared” when they’re purchasing a product they WANT. I WANT all the DLC. So do many players. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t buy it, I’ve happily chose not to buy games that I viewed as not worth the price, and I’ve happily passed on DLC for the same reason. For me, $20 for a dozen new characters, new stories, and new modes is a great value. If you don’t see it as a good value, don’t buy the DLC. And I mean, you’re free to boycott the game itself because the DLC is all in one expansion too. But don’t try to pretend I didn’t see what you said and respond accordingly.
@Timsworld2 I wouldn't really assume it's Marvel making these decisions - the most likely scenario is that they're just the original IP holder and may use the game to promote the upcoming movies a little bit with release of DLC characters coinciding with new trailers/announcements.
To play the devil's advocate, It's possible that story content in these packs is actually additional episodes for the story mode and getting only one, or all out of order, would disturb the storyline and that's why they're in a budle, despite being released separately.
All good. Already purchased the game and expansion pass.
Friday can’t get here quick enough!!
@Trajan
Yes and lots of people refuse to pay even launch price for games because they expect and damn it, are entitled to see games available for less than half price a few months later. It’s a race to the bottom. No wonder so many are moving to GAAS.
@Timsworld2
‘Scared’, ‘power’, ‘sheeple’?
Give it a rest mate. It’s a video game. An entirely ephemeral Consumer product that nobody needs in their life. If you want to buy it, buy it. If you don’t, don’t. But save the sound and fury for something that actually matters.
@JaxonH
😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
(Shrugs) Modern gamers. What you gonna do?
@Timsworld2 never mind, clearly you have trouble following more than one message at once so this conversation is done. Good luck with the boycott!
This game is more than a few years late/past relevance, and after that disgusting re-release of 1 & 2, this is a hard pass.
Already preordered the full version with DLC after playing it yesterday at hyper Japan so fun! Hoping Jessica Jones, Gambit and Rogue are in it too but for FF4 I'll happily pay! Can't wait until next week!
I'm confused! Are people angry because they're releasing an expansion pass, but not selling the DLC individually (which I think is the point this "news story" is trying to make) or just because of the fact that there is DLC?
If it's the former, does anyone buy individual DLC over a Season Pass? Doesn't yhat work out more expensive? And if it's the fact that it has DLC, your not obligated to buy it. I'll be picking up this game abd if I enjoy it and want more, will grab the Season Pass at a later date.
Doom eternal will have dlc too as will Shenmue 3 have dlc. Only 1 of them 2 is coming on switch i know but with this and fire emblem it looks like nintendo are starting to create incomplete games with dlc at launch. Now if Mario maker 2 or odyssey did the same nobody would moan because those games are complete stop it nintendo please. And all this fire emblem always has dlc dosen't wash with me i'm afraid.
@Savutano Normally I'd agree with you that the utter nonsense of the remasters should make anyone sceptical of this game BUT there is a problem. No developer, publisher, or even the IP holder of MUA3 had anything to do with the remasters, that was all Activision and a mess of studios, where this is Nintendo and Koei Tecmo's Team Ninja.
@Timsworld2
‘Your kind’. You have literally no idea what kind I am. Put your dummy back in.
@Shinnos
I think it’s all of the above, lol. I always figured this was gonna have dlc with it being a team ninja game. Therefore, I always planned on buying all the dlc it offers. A one stop purchase works for me!
Wow if Ubisoft couldn't become more of a ....
@Timsworld2 I hope you're kidding/trolling
@RiasGremory Exactly what I was thinking. $19.99 for a season pass. That's $6.66 per dlc. Hardly worth complaining about when they say each dlc will add new characters, costumes, and game play modes.
I am ok with this. And the price isn’t too bad. Probably won’t get the pass until after I beat the game anyway. Can’t wait for Friday.
@electrolite77 Eh. I imagine the games are still profitable. I got Final Fantasy X/X-2 for $10. They're not pumping in microtransations.
GAAS really only applies to multiplayer games, and even then it's usually the same as this DLC. Pay some money to unlock some characters or weapons.
@graysoncharles Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games cost roughly about $60. back in the day.
Video Game Prices haven't risen much since then, if at all.
I’m ok with this because it doesn’t seem like this content is ready pre-launch, so it’s not like they are holding stuff back that’s done. $20 not too bad for extra characters & levels. Hopefully they go with some lesser-known but cool ones.
Three packs for $20 sounds good. The base game has plenty of characters already, it's cool that we're getting even more.
Let's not pretend people were going to boycott this game just because it's getting DLC, that's ridiculous. You weren't getting the game anyway. Calling for others to boycott a game is just lame in general.
@BornInNorway81 that's not the case at all its 20 us dollars for the pass , which gets you all dlc , it isn't just heroes either its locations and story , the reason they say buy all or nothing is simply so they only split the player base in to 2 instead of how many options, plus its optional altogether not needed to enjoy the game at all unless you have to play as f4
@graysoncharles sorry man but surprise mechanics and cheap all inclusive dlc are very different beasts , by all means hate grinding paywalls whales and microtransactions but this game represents none of those poor practices , dlc is not that not even close sir
@Timsworld2 how is it not obvious its story based dlc and it's cheap asf you even get months to decide if you even want it it's not a battle pass that you have to buy to play it is optional and it is giving team ninja time and funds to continue making it the biggest marvel roster ever .Honestly save the hate for surprise mechanics and free to play f##$ery . Or crap even the games media for ignoring it , but leave my game alone it's not mua3 's fault game production is becoming ethically challenged .
@McEhret1 sure does buddy that's why I love these games
@personauser93 unless you modded the first 2 on PC, I think your memory might be weaker than you nostalgia 3 has the best of both 1 poor combat great scope RPG lots if varied locations , 2 great combat stripped down rpg boring locations , graphics dated asf on 1 and outfits and heroes on 2 are lacking .3 has solved a lot of that imo and can not wait to build my team .
@BornInNorway81 "Pack" not "Pass". It is thankfully $20 all of the DLC.
@Timsworld2 you sound butthurt man.
@graysoncharles so you are saying that methods that are psychologically designed to extract as much cash as possible make more money than the standard model , wow that's some startling insight . Attack the bad guy not the victim hilarious how wrong you are . Dont you like paying up front for a finished game , with optional extras lmao .
@Cyberbotv2 My favourite boycott recently had been the Captain Marvel one (if you can have a favourite boycott). Because people hated the actress Brie Larson, who made some comment about putting women before the 'white bearded men of the internet' people who had watched all 20 of the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe film were boycotting this film. Some even stated that her being in the Avengers Endgame film was enough for them to not watch that film. I film that was the culmination of 10 years of movies. I call bullshit on that one.
I will be buying this DLC as I would have bought all three anyway and I spent about that amount each time I went to cinema to watch an MCU in IMAX. If the DLC gives me 3-4 hours of enjoyment, I will be happy.
@Timsworld2
If you don’t want to buy it that’s fine but trying to dictate what other people can or can’t do just makes you sound sad and pathetic
@graysoncharles did I not already,? , your fighting a good fight against the wrong guy try talking fifa then we might agree on something leave a couch co op beat em up out of the equation .
I'm seeing a lot of people upset about the season pass not being piece meal content. What if it's a three part story? They can't easily break that up into different parts. Plus at that point it feels more like buying into future issues of a comic.
I'm all for paying $80 for a triple AAA quality Marvel game. Unlikely to happen though.
@Wilforce @KryptoniteKrunch
Pretty much. This game has the largest roster of the entire franchise so far, so even without the DLC you're getting quite a bit for the base price. MUA3 has 34 characters so far, MUA2 only had 25 (not counting all the DLC). The idea they are "withholding" any characters is ridiculous when you consider that all the DLC won't even be released until 2020. On top of that, we don't even know who the characters are or what the DLC will involve. Makes you wonder where all this "holding characters hostage" talk was with Smash Bros Ultimate.
No one is holding a gun to anyone's head. If anyone is on the fence about the DLC, just wait for it to start coming out in Fall and decide if it's worth it to you then. The MUA franchise has been dormant for a long time (aside from two crappy re-releases), calling for a boycott over something we know nothing about yet is frankly ridiculous and low sales could be enough to finish the franchise off.
Now if it turns out that they're only adding like 4 new characters to the game with nothing else added, then yeah I agree, boycott away. From what I can tell though they're planning to add entire teams (such as the Fanatastic Four) to the game which could mean new story content as well.
Another thing we don't know yet is how long the game itself is. MUA1 was a fairly lengthy game for what it was, while I recall MUA2 being a bit shorter due to the split story paths. We also don't know if new game plus will be brought back yet. If the game is suspiciously short, then that would be an issue and would confirm that there may be some form of withholding going on. Even worse, the 34 character roster could be made up of clones that all play exactly the same like Fire Emblem Warriors.
The game comes out in about 4 days, we'll find out soon enough. Any conclusions about whether or not the game has withheld content until then is based entirely on ignorance. There hasn't been a ton of information revealed about the game so I would say to hold off any judgments until it comes out. We'll learn more then.
I think $20 is an ok price for this. I thought originally it was just characters but it does say new story content so if you get a new level based off of each pack that’d be pretty nice. I’ll probably wait to buy until we get more specifics on the content. Looking hard at you X-men.
I remember when some very minor DLC was already on the disc or cartridge and unlocked via controller tap codes. Costumes, powers, secret levels, weapons...good ol day$.
I'll wait and see what it has. I'm fine with just the base game.
im super excited for this game and who tf cares if you cant buy them separately i bought the game with the pass already. and this game will sell really well
Grabbing the game on Friday, but will hold off on the DLC until the first pack releases. Alternate color skins aren't reason enough for me to buy in on day one.
@Onion I'm excited... Friday cannot come fast enough.
@Xelha to each their own, IMO its silly playing the game now. I hope you change your mind as its pretty great and 20 bucks for all that content...
