When Superhot got a surprise release on the Switch eShop this week, a trailer for the game was uploaded alongside it. If you happened to catch the European version of this video, you might have noticed some text towards the end of the brief clip, instructing the player to press 'R' to restart their run.
This confused some viewers – with one Reddit user, who took the above photo, suggesting the Superhot team had used PC footage of the game to showcase its recent Nintendo release. Luckily, Anders Hillestad from the Superhot team chimed in to explain a keyboard was simply plugged into the system at the time of recording.
We had to make a lot of last minute changes to the trailer right before the release, and in the stress of this our video editor missed that during recording this section of the trailer, the machine noticed a keyboard was plugged in and thus changed the input (like if you played it on a PC and used a connected gamepad). This trailer is absolutely recorded using our Switch edition of the game.
After reassuring Nintendo fans the trailer was "absolutely" recorded on Switch and the mishap was all tied to some last-minute changes, it was noted how the text is not featured in the American clip or Nintendo's YouTube version (see below).
The trailer version above is only on the European eShop, if you check out the trailer on the American eShop or on Nintendo's Youtube Channel you will find that the above "press R to restart" does not exist. It's an unfortunate thing for us to have missed this error in the trailer, but it was not done on purpose or meant to deceive anyone. We're still a indie team, and everyone else who was reviewing the trailer also missed this since and it was last minute (I was reviewing it on my phone as I was out travelling).
If you boot up your Switch and have access to a European Switch account, you can see the above-mentioned slip-up in motion.
Did you notice this message instructing players to press the 'R' key instead of the 'Y' button? Have you bought Superhot for Switch yet – what do you think of it so far? Leave a comment below.

I’m a little confused. It changes from Y to R if you are using a keyboard? How is this a “mishap”? This is just one of the features the game has
@Mince They plugged a keyboard into the switch via usb. I don't know if this is possible in the final version, but someone may try it, we can find out.
Superhot trolled players hard.
@ALinkttPresent It's a mishap as some people might have thought the gameplay was recorded on something else (more powerful).
@Mince sure it does!!
My switch does. I bought the Japanese edition of SmileBASIC, and needed a keyboard, so grabbed an off the shelf USBC keyboard. Works a treat on a simple bog standard switch.
Next week, once Fuze BASIC releases, I bet a whole lot of people will be grabbing keyboards!
@TempOr arguably, but theres a flaming reddit on the go at the moment about false advertising and writing complaints to the Australian government about their business practices. I'll be the first to say it's a mountain out of a mole hill, but without context the article is vaguely relevant.
It's hard for me to be too bothered by this considering I beat the main game, and it was great! I'm working on the endless levels now.
Some people clearly need to get out more
Since when can you connect a keyboard to the Switch?
@Mountain_Man
Keyboards working via the USB port on the switch dock is something that's been known about for a while. It's not even the first time it's been a source of controversy.
But I think it's software dependent.
I love the VR version of this. Wish the throwing was a little more precise and intuitive to where you're actually trying to aim, but other than that it basically makes you feel like Neo from the Matrix.
Haha what a story Mark!
@SBandy So anyway, how is your... life?
@Mountain_Man since 2018 or earlier. I've tried it and it works
