Re: Random: Hideo Kojima Remembers That Time He Used Unwanted Teddy Bear Tech To Make A GBA Vampire Game

I had the game. It was actually a pretty cool concept. As a stupid teenager (or just stupid in general) I thought I literally had to be outside in the sun to play. You know, because a lamp can’t give off UV light or something. lol

Just as stupidly, I eventually traded it in for some other game. I’m sure Gamestop probably gave me a penny and some pocket lint for it…to be young and stupid again.

Re: Sea Of Stars Physical Release Sails In This May

@canaryfarmer A very respectable YouTuber has a charity they raise for. Two other very respectable YouTubers accused them of charity fraud. Whether it was intentional or due to negligence, the optics looks really bad for the accused. No real resolution will probably occur unless there is some sort of true federal investigation (IRS) on the matter. The YouTuber in question was a side character in Sea of Stars, but the devs decided to remove the character with an update. I’m being vague, but I’m sure a quick Google will easily give you the full picture…

I ordered the Exclusive Edition. Hopefully “Q2 2024” does not turn into it shipping well after the retail version is released. I’ve been waiting a while to play this and I hardly ever double dip on digital/physical. I knew a ESRB physical was coming, so I waited, patiently!

I haven’t seen for sure, but is this version going to release without a certain character? I know the Japanese version has it on the cartridge, but then saw they were going to remove the character later. Anyone have updates on that?? Either way, it really wasn’t impacting my decision to buy…

Re: Review: Harvest Moon 64 - Rose-Tinted Specs Recommended For This Beloved Farm Sim

ATHFjman18

This was my first Harvest Moon game and I remember picking it up close to when it first released. I’m sure my nostalgia goggles will be on tight and thick! This game captured the pure essence of farm sim for me back then. It truly was great despite its flaws. Stardew Valley is the only other game in the genre that has really recaptured the feelings I had towards HM64. If you love SDV, do yourself a favor and give it’s grandpappy, Harvest Moon 64, a try. Just temper your QOL expectations.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1

ATHFjman18

As much as I would love to play these portably on my Switch, the physical edition of the game is just tragic. All they had to do was put the games on the cart and I’d have bought it. From what I understand, all of the games are on the PS5 disc, so I might wind up buying it for PS5 instead. I’ll likely wait for a sale…this might get discounted for BF…who knows.

Re: TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Lands A New Physical Edition With DLC Included This November

ATHFjman18

Frustrating. I’ve already moved on to other games so it’s doubtful I’d even go back to play the DLC to want to order this again. I had ordered the Classic edition of the first release then bought a standard copy at a retail store to open and play the game.

I refuse to keep up with the never-ending FOMO updates these “limited release” companies keep pushing. Sure, I’m a sucker for physical games, but this stuff is just out of control anymore.

Re: Soapbox: Charles Martinet Made Gaming's Greatest Accident A Real Character

ATHFjman18

@Clyde_Radcliffe I remember Captain Lou’s voice and the old “Hey Paisanos!” watching it on TV between commercials for either GI Joe action figures or some crazy sugary cereal that was bad for me. TBH maybe I was still a little too young and his voice wasn’t something that was cemented in my head yet. But when Mario 64 came out, that voice was what I established as THE Mario voice. This could have all been a perfect storm of being there live and in the moment. I mean the first time seeing and hearing a 3D Mario! mind blown!! It was a crazy time. Hahaha. So really, Charles is my guy. Sad to see him go, I’m sure the next voice over will be solid too.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario

ATHFjman18

@BAN. Clint Eastwood is like 92 years old and is still acting and directing. Age doesn’t matter if it’s something you enjoy since you don’t think of it as “work”. I mean he’s going to be doing this Mario Ambassador stuff, so I have no reason to think he’d want to do that work, yet stop doing voice work. But hey, who knows…I’m sure more details will come out later.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario

ATHFjman18

I understood why Nintendo did it for the movie. You want to anchor a big name to the movie, so having Chris Pratt made sense. I accepted the decision and felt he did a decent job.

I would also fully understand if Charles voluntarily stepped down from the voice and I would respect his wishes.

BUT if Nintendo alone made this decision to move away from his voice work, I feel as though it is a betrayal of his fantastic work in the Mario universe! (Nintendo done f***ed up if this is the case.)

Thank you Charles for all that you have done and continue to do for Mario!

Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?

ATHFjman18

One can never tell what will become trash or gold. I sold off a bunch of my collection around 2008-2010ish when most of it was “worth” far less money. The need for extra cash and having literally no space to store it in the place I was renting were two main factors. I decided to only keep my SNES/N64 stuff and my current console at the time which was a X360.

There were a good amount of bangers from different consoles too, such as Dreamcast, GameCube, PS1, PS2, GB/GBA, etc. Some that come to mind are Silent Hill, SOTN, Marvel v Capcom 2, Boktai for GBA, Twin Snakes…

Yeah. I wish I hadn’t done it nowadays, but I sure as heck wasn’t going to afford to rent a storage unit or something to keep it all at the time.

Re: Feature: The Rise Of 'Scam Games' And 'Keyword Bingo' Firms Flooding Switch eShop

ATHFjman18

The eShop is a wasteland of trash titles. It reminds me of the massive amount of shovel-ware that was produced for the Wii. So many bad games on that console.

I actively avoid searching through the eShop. It is such a slog with how slow it is and just feels soulless. I only really see/read about Indie games that are reported by video gaming websites in the hopes they report on the decent Indie games. Sure, I’m gonna miss a gem or two, but in a sea of garbage, the likelihood of finding gold yourself is slim.

Re: Review: Disney Illusion Island - Mickey Mouse's Metroidvania Is Magical

ATHFjman18

When I first saw this, I thought it was for kids and that’s alright. It’s not like I’m expecting a Paw Patrol or Peppa Pig game to redefine a genre. It just needs to entertain kids. I was expecting a 7/10 or 8/10 review score. Definitely something easy to play with my son and introduce him to the basics of a Metroidvania. Might look to pick this up during a sale.
