This is an absolutely INSANE update, and I'm SO HERE FOR IT!!!!
Minecraft is finally not a blurry mess on Switch 2 in handheld, and now Portal 1 and 2 actually look sharp! What an unbelievably good idea. To be honest, I'm surprised I never heard of anyone suggesting this exact idea, because it's brilliant and so universal.
Sadly, though.. this probably won't do that much for me, really, given that I almost exclusively play in docked mode anyway,, xP
Still though, for when I DO need Minecraft or Portal on the go, this is game-changing. .....Well, actually, the whole point is that it doesn't have to change the game itself, but... bleh x3c
I hate to say it, but, I will admit that in this particular game, DLSS is working WONDERS. If you had me guess, I never EVER would have thought that this footage was upscaled from 540p.
I know so many people who hate upscaling/super resolution tech all-around, but it's so much more nuanced than that for me. The way I see it, I judge it not based on whether it is or is not upscaling, and instead, I judge based on whether it looks good, or, more precisely, I judge based on if I feel that it looks good enough that I would prefer playing the upscaled version instead of in the native lower resolutions.
In RE9's case? This is an easy win for DLSS. Thanks... Nvidia? No, no, that's not right. Thanks Capcom!
Overall, fantastic! I think Capcom did a WONDERFUL job with this port, and seeing the exact specs and comparisons makes me very happy.
Of course, that 360p resolution (which, btw, in case you didn't watch the whole video, is for handheld mode only) is comically low, but, the upscaling makes it look good and, as much as I would prefer it to run in 720p or 1080p native, that's just not feasible with the hardware, and that's totally ok with me. The Switch 2's DLSS is, to my eyes at least, very very good, so I honestly don't mind it.
(And besides, I almost exclusively play my Switch 2 docked anyway x3)
I'm still not sure if I wanna get this game on Switch 2, though. I'm excited about a new RE game coming to a Nintendo console day-and-date, and I really wanna support that, but... I do have a PC which will certainly run the game much better. I'm sure I'll make my mind up soon enough -w-
I own 4 different models of 3DS, and yet, the one that's my favorite is one that I don't even own. My favorite is the NON XL New 3DS. There's something about that smaller, more compact feel that I like, plus, I simply think that that system is just gorgeous. The New 3DS is a beautiful looking console. Oh, and don't even get my STARTED on those interchangeable faceplates.
My close second place, though, is the original 3DS (I do actually own that one). As goofy and chunky as it is, it's easily the most premium feeling console of the whole lineup. It feels like a really serious, sturdy piece of tech, and I love that. Plus, that 3-layer design just looks fun to me, I like it. Oh, and the 3D effect looks beautiful on it. Something about surrounding the top screen with that glossy black really enhances it, and that matters to me because I unironically REALLY like the 3D feature of the 3DS. I play with it on any time I can.
Interestingly, neither of these models were my actual childhood 3DS. I grew up on an original 3DS XL. Love that system, but it just doesn't have the charm of the non-XL's in my heart.
A long time ago I was over my cousin's house and he, being who he is, just happened to have a pair of loose VR lenses laying around. So, we built a VR Labo headset all on our own! We designed and built it totally from scratch with our own cardboard and tape. When the VB app was announced, and was announced to use the Switch's VR tech, I immediately thought of it. So, last night, I went to go get it, but found it was all torn and destroyed, since, y'know, cardboard sitting in cat-reaching-distance for multiple years with little to no human intervention does that :/ But, I was able to fully rebuild it and make it better than ever! I made it bigger, too, to make it work with my Switch 2. And yes, it works brilliantly with the Virtual Boy app, as well as SMO, BotW, Smash Ultimate, etc.
I absolutely adore these, but I just don't need a new pair right now. But, if my JoyCon 2 break for any reason, it's these in a heartbeat. I LOVE these colors.
It looks like a really well made game, just... I don't like sports games Not a buy from me, sadly. Besides, I wanna save some money for some more Switch 2 stuff I wanna get, like Pragmata, RE Requiem, Tomodachi Life, and hopefully a Switch 2 Pro Controller at some point.
I had a ton of fun with the demo!! I wish it was longer, really. I'm actually currently downloading the demo on my PC for the first time as well — I'm curious to compare them, and determine if I wanna get the game for Switch 2 or on Steam.
I don't use my Nintendo systems for 3rd party stuff for the most part, so there's nothing I'm really itching for here. The only thing is that It'd be great to see: 1) A functional YouTube app 2) A Switch 2 edition of Minecraft. I know Minecraft's Switch 1 version works fine on Switch 2, but I really want to see a version natively for the new system. Mainly just so we can get higher render distance, though Vibrant Visuals support would also be fantastic. The Switch 2 can surely do VV, right?
I really hope we get some kind of news on a Switch 2 Edition of Minecraft... Idk if that's really all that likely, but it would be really nice to have a version of Minecraft actually for this system.
I'm interested in it! The singleplayer content, while minimal, still interests me. Plus, this is a really good excuse for me to replay the base game, which I've been wanting to do for a while. I wonder if it'll run in 120FPS...
As for the amiibo? Not for me, sadly. I'm just not really an amiibo collector, never have been.
Teams in Knockout Tour: Cool! I probably won't play that way much, but it's a great feature, and extra options are ALWAYS welcome. Game supports the Polish language: Not Polish, so it doesn't effect me, but seeing more inclusivity for players is absolutely fantastic. Playable Kamek... uh. wh.,, huh ?? Fixed VR display: Great! I haven't encountered this bug (I don't think) but it's great either way!
Over all, a mundane, but wholly positive update! (Unless there's something hiding in the "Several other issues"...)
My top 3 games were MK World, DK Bananza, and (as a carry-over from prior to getting my Switch 2 Mario Kart 8 deluxe :3
I played a total of 38 different games this year and played for a nice, clean looking 333 hours. I'm a little surprised that isn't MUCH higher though, I feel like I've played a lot of Nintendo this year.
@Hwatt Do you mean the little snap animation on the edge of the screen when you snap the JoyCon in? I'd have to imagine that changes. It did on Switch 1, plus, the Switch 2 definitely knows the color of the JoyCon you have connected. If you put the left JoyCon in the right one's hole (or vice versa) the snap animation is actually in the color of the JoyCon you put in, not the one that "should be" there.
I think these new JoyCon look really nice, but I can't justify that price tag. If they were 60 or 70 dollars, I'd consider it.
Also, I really just don't need any more controllers for my Switch 2. I already have the pair of JoyCon 2 my Switch 2 came with, plus two good pairs of Switch 1 JoyCon, plus a Switch 1 Pro Controller. (That being said, I have kinda been wanting to pick up a Switch 2 Pro Controller).
However, if my JoyCon 2 died for any reason, I would VERY happily replace them with these. They're so pretty!! X3
Mildly sad, but more than expected. I doubt it will happen, but just maybe this means we'll get a Disney+ app on Switch/Switch 2? Again, I'm doubtful of that, but I suppose it'd be nice. (Not like I'd use it, though,,)
Mostly expected stuff, but I can't BELIEVE Kirby Air Riders outsold DK Bananza here. Especially given the fact these are digital-only sales. I kind of assumed that Air Riders was gonna be a game for the hardcore crowd pretty exclusively, and DK would be the more mass-appeal title, but maybe not.
Cool, I'll certainly be interested in seeing it then! Though, I think I can already guess what my most played Switch/Switch 2 title was this year; looking at you, MKW! X3c
Obviously these are joke awards, but I do feel the need to say I quite liked Welcome Tour. Was it extroardinary? God no. But was it the WORST GAME OF THE YEAR?? Absolutely not either. I absolutely loved the little quizzes, and I spent a frankly embarrassing amount of time enjoying the dodge the spiked balls minigames. Around when I first got my Switch 2 I brought it over my cousin's house and we spent LITERAL hours messing around in Welcome Tour together. It's not an exceptional game, not by any means, but it does have tons of value for people who like tech demos and learning.
All that being said, I DO agree that charging for it was a putrid choice. I may have gotten more than 10 dollars worth of time out of it, but I'm clearly a one-in-a-million for just enjoying it, let alone feeling like the purchase was good for me, so it should have been free.
The "required" accessories are really stupid, but the good news is that, if it's anything like the Labo VR headset (which I'm most certain it is,) the console won't be able to know if the accessory is actually there or not, meaning you should hypothetically be able to play these games anyway, as long as you're willing to see double. (Or cross your eyes the right way so you can see the full 3D effect, totally peripheral free! Once you get good at it, it works quite well. I'd know.)
I absolutely love my Nintendo Switch 2. I didn't get it quite at launch - instead, for my birthday in September - but I've still gotten plenty of use out of the system. As of now, I've already gotten 65 hours out of the flawed, but over-all outstanding Mario Kart World, and have put 45 hours into DK Bananza, which really is everything I wanted from the next EPD8 game; it's absolutely perfect. I'm hoping to 100% it soon! For the actual hardware itself, it feels great! A part of me wishes it was an OLED screen, but I also know that if they did that, it EASILY would've sold for $500+, and that's just too much. The build quality feels excellent; I love the magnetic Joy-Con 2, and the screen resolution bump to 1080p feels absolutely incredible, and so very needed. But here's something that might be an unusual take, but I do kinda wish the system was smaller. Somewhere between the size of itself the original Switch. It's so big, in fact, that I find uncomfortable - even painful - to hold it with one hand across the system (as in, holding it the way you might hold a brick in one hand at your side.) And that's a shame, because when I'm moving my system around, that's absolutely the most natural way for me to grasp it, but I can't with the Switch 2. Being able to use the (very nice) kickstand as handle mostly makes up for it though! As for software (the software that I haven't already brought up), I think it's all quite nice. I don't have Kirby Air Riders or Metroid Prime 4 yet, but I'm hoping to get them both soon. From what I've played of Air Riders in the Global Test Ride, though, it is a fantastic game, though maybe not quite worth 70 dollars for me. I'll still pick it up, though. And for MP4, it looks good. Sadly, I just don't have any attachment to the Metroid franchise; I've never played a single Metroid game in my life. But, I am looking forward to trying out MP4 at some point and jumping into the series for the first time!
That was a lot of text, sorry if it was a little too much. To conclude, I love my Switch 2 dearly. Overall, I'm extremely happy with it. It looks nice, it plays decently, the quality is great, and we've had absolute tons of quality software released in these six months. Can't wait for the year-in check in!
@Robot99 My pleasure!! It's INSANE that they actually did this, but I'm SO happy about it! The dreaded KTB intermissions are now... bearable..????? WOW!!!!
This is something that's REALLY easy to miss in the patch notes, as it's kind of implied (but it is there, I checked), but they changed the actual layout of nearly all, if not all, intermissions to and from Koopa Troopa Beach. Remember how Peach Stadium to Koopa Troopa Beach was LITERALLY just a straight line in the water? NO LONGER!!!!! IT HAS CURVES, AND VARIETY!!!!! OH MY GOD !!!!!!!!!!!!
Despite having a Switch 2, and obviously planning to get MP4 for it, I am really interested to see how it shapes up on Switch 1. As far as I'm aware, we've only ever seen footage from the Switch 2 version? Correct me if I'm wrong. There's a mischievous little part of me that hopes it looks absolutely revoltingly disgustingly awful and runs super bad on Switch 1, not for any ulterior motives, but simply because it'd be Really Really Really Funny. (Though, seriously speaking, I do hope it's a fine version of the game. People who don't have Switch 2s still deserve quality experiences!)
It's good to see KAR doing well, and the Switch 2 itself as well. Not that it wasn't expected, Japan LOOVVEESSS Kirby (as we all should), but it's still nice to see!
I love my (many) 3DS's! To be fair, I don't play them very often, but as someone who grew up pretty closely with a 3DS XL, the system means a lot to me. I'm glad Nintendo still remembers it! X3c (Someone, please explain to me how the DS case I own, designed to fit one DSi XL can fit 4 different 3DS models, and two DS models all at once, plus games, charger and AR cards...)
Almost certainly! It's not a day-one purchase (just because I don't really have the means for that at the moment.) But I'm really really hoping to get this for Christmas, and if I don't, I'm gonna be getting it with my Christmas money.
I played the Global Test Ride a good bit, and while I found it kinda "meh" at first, as I played more and more, it grew on me exponentially. I'm SO excited to try out the full game!
I'm excited for this!! I don't know if I'll catch it day one in theatres, but I CERTAINLY wanna see it in the theatre. (Besides, I've been wanting watch a movie in theatres for a while now. The last time I saw a movie in the cinema was the FNaF movie.) I'm really excited to see Rosalina, I just hope they're able to characterize her well. Her recent appearences make her seem like an entirely different character then she was designed to be, just by the way she talks and moves. Either way though, I'm sure I'll love the movie, as I did reaallly like the first one.
That's a shame... Personally, I'm no where near as bothered by GKCs as I know other people are, but I do still wish all the games were real physical titles,,, Let's hope they only do this for smaller titles. If 3D Mario or something comes out on a GKC I'll be frustrated. (Though, I doubt they'd do that, given that DKB came out on a proper physical cart.)
Cool! Nothing major here, but love to see the performance update, and I like the new option of low-latency or stable Switch 2 Pro Controller audio output. I'm confused about what it says about the adjust screen size menu, though. It looks the same as usual to me.
@sportymariosonicmixx The technical explanation is that, even though they're engineered to feel very similar to one another, the Switch 2 actually operates VERY differently compared to the Switch 1, and at a pretty fundamental level. Enough so that Switch 1 titles can't run natively on Switch 2; they need to run through a translation layer. Most of the time, this translation layer works, but sometimes it makes errors and those cases need to be fixed individually on a case-by-case basis. To word all that simply, the Switch 1 and 2 talk in different languages, and for a Switch 2 to play a Switch 1 game, they need a translator, but sometimes that translator gets confused and makes a mistake, making the game run strangely or not at all on Switch 2.
I think the only thing I'll pick up here is a MicroSD Express card. Everything else here is stuff I either already own, or don't have much interest in (except maybe TTYD) On my Switch 1 my storage never filled up very high, so I was surprised to see that my Switch 2 has already used about HALF of it's system storage, so I definitely want to get an SD card for it.
Personally, I love Nintendo and their consoles dearly, however, it's mostly just that; Nintendo. When I wanna play a third-party game, I'm almost always gonna want to play it on my PC, since... it is, objectively, much stronger and more capable. And also because when it comes to games like Celeste, Minecraft, or the Portal games, if you get them on PC you have the whole world of mods available to you. Not on console. I buy Nintendo consoles because I love Nintendo games. That being said... I am tempted to dip my toes into the world of third-party on Switch 2. Particularly, I want to try and dive into the Resident Evil series for the first (proper) time with Requiem, and I might get it on Switch 2, as I like the idea of being able to play it anywhere. Though, I'm still on the fence about that. I think when it comes to Requiem, I'm gonna wait for reviews after launch, see if the PC version is notably better or not, and then go from there.
I'm thinking I'll get it eventually. I never did get around to ever actually playing ACNH, and I'm thinking that this Switch 2 Edition will be my excuse to finally buy and play it! That being said, probably not any time too soon. I only got my Switch 2 semi-recently, plus I've been busy lately, so I haven't even finished DK Bananza yet! Let alone how many hours I'm gonna want to sink into Metroid Prime 4 and Kirby Air Riders.
Interesting! I always associate Nintendo with being able to compress their games to be suuuper tiny, but I guess not this time! Let's just hope they don't get too crazy with it... Don't forget to get out there and buy a MicroSD Express card!! ...If you want, I don't care. I'm not the one selling them.
I haven't picked up Z-A, and likely wont, given that I'm really just not a big fan of any of the Pokemon games at all. But I am happy to see it's doing well. From what I've heard, while it still has lots of glaring issues that really do need addressing, the game, at it's core, is good and fun, and I think that's what matters most. Proud of you, Z-A! Also it's CRAZY to me that half the sales are from Switch 2. I'm curious what the exact implications of that are.

I hate to say it, but, I will admit that in this particular game, DLSS is working WONDERS. If you had me guess, I never EVER would have thought that this footage was upscaled from 540p.

In RE9's case? This is an easy win for DLSS. Thanks... Nvidia? No, no, that's not right. Thanks Capcom!

(Or cross your eyes the right way so you can see the full 3D effect, totally peripheral free! Once you get good at it, it works quite well. I'd know.)
Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?
9/10!
Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.4.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@Robot99 My pleasure!! It's INSANE that they actually did this, but I'm SO happy about it! The dreaded KTB intermissions are now... bearable..????? WOW!!!!
Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.4.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Site News: So, Where's Our Metroid Prime 4 Switch 1 Review?
Re: Japanese Charts: Kirby Air Riders Is Off To A Flying Start
It's good to see KAR doing well, and the Switch 2 itself as well. Not that it wasn't expected, Japan LOOVVEESSS Kirby (as we all should), but it's still nice to see!
Re: Valve's Steam Client Adds Switch 2 Pro Controller Support
Nice to see! I'm a little disappointed that Joy-Con 2 aren't compatible yet, but that will come with time, I'm sure.
Re: Nintendo Has Scheduled Maintenance For 3DS Later Today
I love my (many) 3DS's! To be fair, I don't play them very often, but as someone who grew up pretty closely with a 3DS XL, the system means a lot to me. I'm glad Nintendo still remembers it! X3c
(Someone, please explain to me how the DS case I own, designed to fit one DSi XL can fit 4 different 3DS models, and two DS models all at once, plus games, charger and AR cards...)
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Kirby Air Riders?
Almost certainly! It's not a day-one purchase (just because I don't really have the means for that at the moment.) But I'm really really hoping to get this for Christmas, and if I don't, I'm gonna be getting it with my Christmas money.
I played the Global Test Ride a good bit, and while I found it kinda "meh" at first, as I played more and more, it grew on me exponentially. I'm SO excited to try out the full game!
Re: Feature: 12 Details You Might Have Missed In The Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer
I'm excited for this!! I don't know if I'll catch it day one in theatres, but I CERTAINLY wanna see it in the theatre. (Besides, I've been wanting watch a movie in theatres for a while now. The last time I saw a movie in the cinema was the FNaF movie.) I'm really excited to see Rosalina, I just hope they're able to characterize her well. Her recent appearences make her seem like an entirely different character then she was designed to be, just by the way she talks and moves. Either way though, I'm sure I'll love the movie, as I did reaallly like the first one.
Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Seemingly Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release
That's a shame... Personally, I'm no where near as bothered by GKCs as I know other people are, but I do still wish all the games were real physical titles,,,
Let's hope they only do this for smaller titles. If 3D Mario or something comes out on a GKC I'll be frustrated. (Though, I doubt they'd do that, given that DKB came out on a proper physical cart.)
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 21.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Cool! Nothing major here, but love to see the performance update, and I like the new option of low-latency or stable Switch 2 Pro Controller audio output. I'm confused about what it says about the adjust screen size menu, though. It looks the same as usual to me.
Re: Nintendo Launches Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Search Page
Re: Nintendo's Black Friday Offers Include Deals On Switch 1 Games, amiibo, And More
I think the only thing I'll pick up here is a MicroSD Express card. Everything else here is stuff I either already own, or don't have much interest in (except maybe TTYD)
On my Switch 1 my storage never filled up very high, so I was surprised to see that my Switch 2 has already used about HALF of it's system storage, so I definitely want to get an SD card for it.
Re: Opinion: Third-Party Support For Switch 2 Is Already A Dream Come True
Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Firework Sequence In A Video Game?
OBVIOUSLY the best fireworks in gaming history is the HDR Fireworks Display tech demo in Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. Duh. /j
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?
I'm thinking I'll get it eventually. I never did get around to ever actually playing ACNH, and I'm thinking that this Switch 2 Edition will be my excuse to finally buy and play it!
That being said, probably not any time too soon. I only got my Switch 2 semi-recently, plus I've been busy lately, so I haven't even finished DK Bananza yet! Let alone how many hours I'm gonna want to sink into Metroid Prime 4 and Kirby Air Riders.
Re: Review: Once Upon A Katamari (Switch) – A Roll-'Em-Up Revival Done Right
I'm excited to pick this one up, though I'm not sure if it'll be too soon. Perhaps Christmas time will yield me some roll-em-up fun!
Re: PSA: You Might Need To Free Up Some Space For Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment
Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sold 5.8 Million Copies Globally In Its First Week
I haven't picked up Z-A, and likely wont, given that I'm really just not a big fan of any of the Pokemon games at all. But I am happy to see it's doing well. From what I've heard, while it still has lots of glaring issues that really do need addressing, the game, at it's core, is good and fun, and I think that's what matters most. Proud of you, Z-A! Also it's CRAZY to me that half the sales are from Switch 2. I'm curious what the exact implications of that are.
