Monster Hunter 4

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate — known as Monster Hunter 4G in Japan — has utterly decimated the competition in its launch week, selling nearly 1,500,000 physical copies, but Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS still stands up as a strong contender in second place. Yokai Watch 2 also makes its way back up the charts as the wave of new releases on Sony consoles has died down this week, in turn allowing a fifty-fifty split in the charts between Nintendo and Sony.

Elsewhere Mario Kart 8 is still to be shaken from the top twenty, but sadly Hyrule Warriors is nowhere to be seen.

The New 3DS and New 3DS LL (XL outside of Japan) bring themselves into the fray and make a phenomenal first week of sales. The standard version sold a staggering 70,000 units, whilst the LL version had over double that figure. It's an incredibly encouraging sight to see, and it's clear that Nintendo is still cock of the walk in its homeland. If you'd like to see how we got on with the New 3DS console, click here.

The Wii U's sales have dipped again, though that's not necessarily surprising considering the absence of new releases for the system, in addition to the high profile arrival of the New 3DS and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
