Bravely Default, Etrian Odyssey Millenium Girl, SM3DW (still taking it one level at a time to 100% completion), DKTF (still 100%ing this as well)...

I just picked up AC4/Black Flag and Splintercell Blacklist both for $20 new, not a bad deal at all, so I may crack those open sometime this weekend if I can find some time.

element187 commented on The North American Version Of Tomodachi Life W...:

@Monsti makes perfect sense. They don't think it will make enough money in that region to pay for the translation.... French Canadian and Mexico Spanish is slightly different than France and Spain, so they would have to do a full translation/speech update.... Same reason why they won't just use British English for the American copy and vice versa

element187 commented on The North American Version Of Tomodachi Life W...:

Pretty simple concept here. Nintendo doesn't think it will sell enough copies in Canada/Mexico to cover the localization/translation for smaller demographics.

@Lebon14 wow, so living in Canada is like living under tyranny? That's almost as bad as New York banning table salt and sodas.... No offense, but that is insane that the government would dictate something like that. What's next, are you going to tell me your government forces you to subsidize people's poor decisions and unhealthy eating choices as well?

element187 commented on Review: Conception II: Children of the Seven S...:

I will be getting this game, like I pick up all of the Atlus's games.... Sigh, I might as well open an account with them and have money transferred directly to them. Strange that this game is getting panned everywhere, but this is the first review I saw that was an 8... I take it the others only like certain RPG's

@ricklongo my 3DS has turned into an RPG box, this is a crazy great system, probably the best portable I ever owned, content wise.

element187 commented on Yumi's Odd Odyssey Is Coming To Europe Under I...:

@Yasume it's the exact reason why I have purchased this in North America yet..... When introducing a new series that you want to take off in a new territory, you need to set a lower price to build an audience, and if the series is really good, people will pay full price on the next one.

element187 commented on Microsoft's Ken Lobb: Metroid Prime Wouldn't H...:

I'll agree with this statement. Most gamers have no idea what they want..... I see people begging for a brand new 2D Metroid on Wii U. Wtf can they do in 2D that the 3DS wouldn't be able to do?

That's kind of the point of having a console, to do things that are not possible on the portable, to have a grand experience. And you will not get a grand experience creating another 2D Metroid on a console. I'm all for getting a new 2D adventure on the 3DS. But not on Wii U. The console already has a glut of 2D games. No thanks.

element187 commented on Nintendo Titles Struggle for a Presence in UK ...:

The UK just is not into Nintendo. The Wii U only sold 200k-300k systems there. I bet that's mostly the people that come to this website.

No offense my UK friends, but your country just doesn't like Nintendo very much..... I think Nintendo should shower the two territories in generous Nintendo gifts that actually do buy Nintendo products.

element187 commented on Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns...:

The fact the core game is on Unity for 50,000. Why does it cost them $200,000 to port it to Wii U? Its within Unity, porting is a snap when the engine runs natively on a system.........

The fact is they are only using Wii U owners to exploit the game drought.... Picture a villain from any cartoon saying "These idiot Wii U owners are so desperate for games that they will pay my $200,000 ransom". Because let's be honest that's basically why they added a stretch goal that is 4x bigger than the base of the game. Dev kits are rather cheap for indie devs, Nintendo has very low licensing fees for indie devs, the approval process is getting praise.

Porting from Unity to Unity is a fairly easy process, multiple devs have praised how easy it is to port tier Unity game to Wii U, so there is no complex developing needed. The gamepad is no different than programming games to use two monitors, such as on PC, so even a first year programmer can do it, but even easier the support for the gamepad is built into Unity already, so there no in depth programmer required..... These devs are just trying to take advantage of Wii U owners. A Wii U stretch goal for a game made in Unity should cost no more than $10,000 where the entire game is funded for $50,000. I hope their kickstarter fails for this behavior. They are the EA of indie developers.

@ricklongo what will happen is that stretch will fail (and it should fail), but they will bring the game to Wii U anyways as it's too cheap to do so to ignore the eshop. It will be already fully funded and created within Unity, they won't be able to ignore it, it's like leaving free money on the table.

I gave up gaming when I turned 25 as I concentrated on my career. After getting married I came back to gaming as me and my wife have opposite schedules so I needed a time waster for while she was at work.... Besides, she plays Facebook games anyways, so I might as well start playing Nintendo/PC again.

element187 commented on Interview: 4 Corner Games Tells Us Why It's Go...:

@Sean_Aaron I think the rating systems in Europe just needs to change, she's like the 12th developer that has mentioned how terrible it is in Europe for getting your game out. They should cut some slack on smaller developers, perhaps based on intended price target.

I'll be a day one customer. I like this genre. I still play bit trip runner. I really do appreciate the 60fps. All platformers should run at that speed, period. Cough cough I'm looking at you Sony and your 30fps platformer

element187 commented on Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomod...:

@midnafanboy uhh, it was a glitch and never intended to be in the game in the first place. There is no outside forces threatening them about it.

Like all glitches and software bugs, when they are discovered by the developer they fix it..... Unless your EA or Ubisoft, then the glitches/bugs stay for eternity.

element187 commented on Road Redemption's Latest Footage Looks a Bit M...:

I bet all the people criticizing this game on here from a few months ago feel pretty stupid now.

Never judge a game this far out from release.... Everything was a place holder and they didn't apply any effects, but they still released a video to show off the mechanics of the game, and they were harshly criticized here with accusations of an N64 game.

Its coming along nicely and this is still Pre-Alpha footage. Lets wait until it gets close to release before we bash it.

element187 commented on Next-Generation Visual Novel Nero Confirmed Fo...:

@Heiki indies are the only developers (besides Nintendo) that are experimenting. All the other platform holders and publishers keep releasing the same exact games with zero new gameplay mechanics, just prettier graphics and no interesting new ways to play.... Like the latest 3d Mario is bursting with new ideas almost every level, no big time publishers are doing that, just indies and Nintendo

element187 commented on Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, Bu...:

@Nintenjoe64 I wouldn't be surprised at no DLC for 3D World. Nintendo no doubt has a ton of unused ideas from 3D World, that may make dlc feasible, but knowing Nintendo, they would turn it into a full blown game on its own so they can sell it for full price..... That's how Galaxy 2 was created, and Nintendo would make a killing doing that as opposed to dlc.

element187 commented on Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, Bu...:

@WiiULoveGBA if it comes out for 3DS that would be the equivalent of Nintendo waiving the white flag on Wii U.

If Nintendo is serious about turning the Wii U around, they would keep firing 3D Mario at the Wii U in addition to other major franchises..... A Galaxy type of Mario game for Wii U would help move systems. 3D World sold several million copies in less than 3 months on tiny install base (while moving half a million consoles)

element187 commented on Weirdness: These Chinese Game Controllers Look...:

@epicdude12302 @Nik-Davies nobody can sue anybody in China. They don't have copyright laws... In fact they even boast about it in China with a popular joke "Our copyright laws says we have a right to copy your idea"

Lawsuits don't matter. If Nintendo wants a piece of that China market they will be competing with blatant rip offs of their idea..... In fact they will run into businesses that will use Nintendo's logo and seal of quality emblem, because they don't care.

element187 commented on Video: Silicon Studios Shows Off Tech Demo of ...:

@Yorumi Its a money issue... If the extra work you put into a port to optimize it and it only sells a few thousand copies, that is a failed business venture.

Using the power of the Wii U or the Gamepad as a scapegoat to not work on it is complete BS. They need to just be honest "Sorry we cannot port our game to Wii U because we feel it won't make enough money to make the effort worth it" ... Thats all they need to say.

element187 commented on Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns...:

I really don't like these absurd stretch goals.

The one in particular is especially irking me. The whole project needs $50,000 to be made. But to get a Wii U port they are asking for $150,000 more?!

Jesus, this game is made on Unity, it isn't hard to port it over at all. It's actually a very simple affair. And don't give me that gamepad crap, as it isn't difficult at all to work with. First year programmers would know how to output to the gamepad, and that's without engine support built in... With the support already inside of Unity on Wii U, it's even easier.

They are trying to take advantage of Wii U owners. If the entire game needs $50,000, how in the world would a port cost 3x that...... This developer can drop dead before I would give him a dime.

Hex Heroes, Festival of Magic and Cult County I will give a pledge later this week for sure.

element187 commented on Video: What Could Xenoblade Chronicles Look Li...:

This one isnt quite what Xenoblade would look like in HD because of how few polygons are used on the character models and the ultra low resolution textures.... I don't think Nintendo would let just an uprezzed port out the door, they would have to give the game a makeover

Probably the same reason why they chose Windwaker over TP/SS. A lot cheaper to give cel shaded graphics a facelift than poly/texture upgrades

element187 commented on Video: Atlus Serves Up an Early Look at Person...:

The art style is fine for an EO game. It will just feel wierd playing a SMT/Persona game with this kind of art style.

Still debating whether I'll get it. I want to play it, but at the same time I don't want Atlus to get the wrong idea that I want more games with this art style...... Could you imagine if the next SMT game has this art style? I think I would cry

element187 commented on Super Smash Bros. Direct Will Bring the Hype o...:

@thesilverbrick I will take that bet... Nintendo can't afford to miss the 2014 window on a game this big.... and Iwata himself can't especially afford it.

With the advent of patches, Nintendo wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of it when they find themselves int he position that they are.... a bad game is forever a bad game motto from Shiggy only applied back in the offline days of video games.

element187 commented on Super Smash Bros. Direct Will Bring the Hype o...:

@GN004Nadleeh But you forget that the shareholders get to vote whether to keep Iwata around in a few months. Iwata could throw Smash and MK8 out fairly close to each other to pad sales of Wii U just before the vote to try and hang on to his position.... lets be honest here. Mario Kart and Smash have been finished for quite some time, and only getting polished right now. They could be released as is at any time.

element187 commented on Hex Heroes Lead Wants "To Develop a New Experi...:

I'm actually really excited for this. The concept sounds pretty cool.

Player 1 will be directing where the units on the ground will operate with the gamepad and the other players will be controlling that unit from the ground level with another controller.

element187 commented on Preview: Mario Kart 8:

"Nintendo's dedication to maintaining 60fps — as also seen in Super Mario 3D World — should be commended, as it makes a significant difference to the feel of the game"

And this is why Nintendo is the only systems I'll ever purchase to put next to my PC. PS4 and xBone are trapped in the 30fps ghetto 95% of the time like last gen.... Crappy frame rate just obliterates the gameplay. Microsoft/Sony gamers don't care about gameplay, they spend all of their time on websites arguing over graphics, so Sony and Microsoft oblige that by murdering gameplay (frame rate) to push the visuals as far as it can go (even bringing a game down into the 20's fps is acceptable to them, cough cough TLOU)

element187 commented on Poll: Have Your Say On The GamePad's Role With...:

@epicdude12302 no, the gamepad has nothing to do with third party support. Any dev or publisher who says that are avoiding the real reason because the real reason is very bad PR.

It's much more diplomatic to use the gamepad as an escape goat than to say "We aren't going to port our game because we don't think it will make enough of a profit for us to make it worth our effort"

Third party support is in direct correlation with how little third party games sell on Wii U. Want someone to blame for lack of third party support blame the 4.8 million Wii U owners who don't buy third party games, while a consistent 100k-200k of owners that do buy.

If most of these 3rd party ports sold as much as many copies as SM3DW did, 3rd party devs and publishers would be tripping all over themselves to put their games on the system. But like all Nintendo systems since the N64 third party games just don't sell very well

element187 commented on Review: Yumi's Odd Odyssey (3DS eShop):

I will buy it at the first price drop.... I think the publisher needs to realize that western audiences are hesitant to pay that much for a titles without ever playing one in the series before. Sell it for $15-$20 and I'll bite to check it out. Same could be said for Senran Kagura Burst Never played the series, so it's like purchasing blind.

Atlus does tons of half off sales and I jumped right in to see if it lives up to the hype (in Atlus's case everyone of their RPG's have been a joy to play so far)

@FernandoMachado @Phantom_R @epicdude12302 @HylianJowi @PrincessEevee9 @Technosphile

The gay marriage thing was a glitch and it was patched in Japan already. That's why it will not be in the NA or EU version, so you can shutdown the foxnews and conservative witch hunt now.

Why does everything have to be twisted into politics with progressives, especially over something when it has nothing to do with politics! It's like you all have hard ons for taking political snipes even when it doesn't make any sense to do so. (Full disclosure I'm a libertarian)

element187 commented on New Watch_Dogs Trailer Highlights a Living, Br...:

PS4 version? Snicker. Looks like a last gen game in 1080p. I bet it also struggles to run at 30fps even with the significant asset reduction. I don't see how people enjoy getting locked in the 30fps ghetto... I'll wait for this in a sale on PC when the modding community gets a hold of it and fixes any downgrade issues (if there is any on PC)

element187 commented on Sonic Lost World Gets Free Legend of Zelda DLC...:

@PinkSpider most companies want to get paid for their work... Sega is doing free dlc to try and entice Nintendo fans to buy their game because it didn't sell very well..... I didn't bite with Yoshi dlc, but I think I will for Zelda dlc. Now to find it on sale. Sega would sell a bunch if they announced a sale at the same time

element187 commented on Sonic Lost World Gets Free Legend of Zelda DLC...:

Bwahaha the meltdowns on the sonic fans sites is going to be even more epic then when Yoshi dlc was announced.

Well, I think I might break down and buy this game now. I wonder if I can get it for $20 like I did with Splintercell

element187 commented on Renegade Kid Confirms a Console Game Kickstart...:

@Prof_Elvin_Gadd my god I'm bawling laughing at the idiots who backed Oculus that thought they are owed even a dime of that 2 billion. With kickstarter, you are backing a dream, not buying equity in a company... After Oculus raised the original 2.6 million, that money was strictly to build a proof of concept OR, and that was completed already. Now to build the dev kits they need a bigger infusion of cash. So that means venture capitalist. So Palmer Luckey took that prototype to big investors (90+ million in investor cash infusion) and that was strictly to build dev kits to get developers to make content and begin working on a retail product.

Now they want to make the consumer version. Without facebook's backing the consumer version would be lower specs (only 1080p and 75 hertz refresh rate), cost more money to us, have supply issues upon release and a release date 2 or more years away.... With Facebook jumping in, OR will have the money to mass produce these things, which means much better specs (1440p FTW and 90 hertz refresh rate), cheaper costs and the ability to meet demand.

For VR, this is huge and will finally bring consumer level affordable VR. Facebook bought them because they think it will be revolutionary, and what they want to do with OR is still 10, 15 or 20 years down the road, plenty of time for competitors to offer us gamers a gaming only VR solution. But until Facebook utilizes this tech for their goals! we will get at least a decade of VR gaming out of the rift.
