@N00BiSH look just say you don’t like the style but don’t say how he is supposed to look. It’s Nintendo’s IP. They are approving every character design. They’ve changed the look of yoshi several times throughout the years. There is no standard look.
@RenanKJ the game is largely done. Inflation isn’t going to affect the cost of the game other than selling in other countries. Companies are going to lean into that to justify these higher prices. Nothing good is going to come of it
@IceEarthGuard I've worked in games since 2000. This isn't being forced on anyone. Times have changed, people who make the games have changed. The people at the highest levels are unlikely to know much about the content of a single game let alone everything being included. Ratings boards do not tell you what to change, only the rating that you will get for the content that you have included in the game.
It is the team who will decide the rating they're trying to achieve and how they plan to achieve it. This isn't censorship.
@MirrorFate2 That isn't censorship. It's their game, they get to decide what content is in the game and how it's presented. They aren't being forced to make the changes.
@JimNorman I can almost guarantee it’s not a selling point. It’s a feature, sure, because it makes sense. But they’re not basing their marketing around this feature nor is it a feature that will move significant units.
@Xenoblade-Fan at this point it’s fair to say these are a legitimate. Too many people have gotten their hands on it for these to be fake. It’s just a matter of when Nintendo will officially announce. Sounds like it’s happening soon.
@Antraxx777 It’s rare that development hardware has any cpu/gpu improvements. I honestly can’t think of a single instance and this is my 25th year in games. Typically you get more memory, storage, etc. which generally doesn’t have a material effect on things like frame rates. The increased memory is for debugging purposes as many of the tools required to make the game push it beyond the memory footprint of retail units
@Ralizah some of the prices on these collections have gotten out of control, much like the cost of owning the actual cart or cd-rom. The price for the Valis games, which aren't even all that great, are exorbitant. Hard pass until there are very deep discounts.
@Coalescence they were a small studio and while talented, nothing they've done has had tremendous success. the mario kart rc control car / game didn't do great, nor did the other version they produced. knockout city was a dud... it's not like they were a big studio to begin with. they just had funding pulled for a game... not necessarily their fault.
not might. it happened. a former colleague was a lead over there. i reached out to discuss a resume - someone he worked with at velan - when i noticed his avatar said openforwork. he mentioned they hadn't announced it yet but i think most people have already been notified.
@Axecon I don't think it grabbed people in quite the same way. I bought it but haven't bothered with it yet tbh. While I know much about the setting changed, I can't help but feel it's a bit of a 'been there, done that' vibe...
@Nancyboy every company is focused on this except nintendo. the only way to enact change is to vote with your wallets. and yeah, that might mean more layoffs as companies come to grips with what people will and won't tolerate... i say all of this as someone in the industry who could easily be affected if the next version of our game doesn't do well.
30fps is plenty good enough. maybe they're rendering at 30 but sampling input at 60. there are very likely reasons it runs at 30fps and probably not the fault of "optimizations"
@120frames-please they use the Atari 50 blueprint, which honestly set a new gold standard for compilations. i'd love to pick this up but $20 is too steep for a single game. i think a lot of people are going to have the same reaction and wait for a sale. i do hope they continue to do these though as many of the industry founders are really getting up there in age.
@Cashews can confirm. it's incredibly tiny & jam packed and there isn't much to do. the nice thing, i think most people want to see it so the other parts of the park are a bit more accessible until about mid-day then things start to pick up. i'd recommend waiting for the orlando park to open which is sure to be significantly bigger.
@PtM its the new model post-covid. shorter release windows to digital / streaming had been discussed for a long time but many studio pushed back on the idea. once covid hit, direct to digital was the ONLY model, then as we started to exit they did simultaneous release of theater / digital. Personally I like this but don't really like the recent price hikes they have placed on digital (and of course Nintendo has $5 premium on the SMB release)
@PBandSmelly i don't understand why that film took so long. i mean, i have my suspicions but i don't really get it. these studios have their workflows down to a science
@PipeGuy64Bit not even remotely. it sounds like they approached him and he was honest about what to expect. blame nintendo and imagination for casting and choosing people who might not have the range as VA.
@PtM i was so very confused when i read the first paragraph, wondering how they might patent a sword??? of course they used trademark later in the article which is even more confusing (but correct). fix the article.
MTX in a game geared towards children. What can go wrong? We know the US won't do much but Europe is usually pretty good about holding companies accountable. This should be interesting.
@Anachronism the characters & enemies are cel-shaded while the environment retains roughly the same look w/ improved visuals. Not fan of it either tbh.
@Ade117 games are always released strategically. prime is released this year to gear people up for the fourth release,. probably planned for late year. don't be surprised if you hear a new baten katos is in the works either.
@SwitchVogel yes that is true but maybe - hear me out here - just maybe people are sick of the same game designs and want something new. How many times does one need to play an assassins creed or just dance? ACs and the like are all just slogs...
@NeonPizza completely intentional. it will never happen. they clearly went with a super light-weight OS to keep things more responsive in the front end. Those types of features would bog things down, as well as add one more area to introduce potential exploits...
@Zebetite It's nice Nintendo decide to fix many of their bone headed design decisions but based on all reviews it feels like they didn't really bring anything new to the table. Lower scores probably reflect the sameness. Personally it looks too similar for me to even consider but that seems to be a problem with a lot of their content in recent years...
@Zeldawakening this is exactly the kind of ***** they love. minimal development cost so every sale - and there are probably tons - has a large return. it is absolutely shameful though. they're absolutely the worst. i had a healthy 10 year career there. would rather leave games entirely than ever go back.
