Surprise! The Mario Movie's Digital Release Is Out Now (US)

Yay! I’m so going to watch it later! I can’t wait! But dang boy what’s with the price?

I'll wait for the Blu-Ray.

Will buy it on DVD and on Switch digitally if it ever comes to it. Maybe also on Blu-Ray, even though I don't have a Blu-Ray player, I want to change that.

$30 for digital? Yeah no. Regal on Tuesdays is $7. Maybe I should go see it tomorrow.🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh i thought it was gonna be streaming without having to rent or buy. I'll just wait for the physical release thanks.

@HammerGalladeBro If the Super Mario movie is anything like Universal's other home releases, you might be better off getting the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital combo pack. I've done this with a few DreamWorks movies and have all three versions. Plus, you won't need to buy the Blu-Ray when you get the player.

That's my plan to get this movie, or just wait it out until it's on Peacock. Already saw this in theaters and loved it, so it's a definite buy from me.

Worth to watch but not worth to buy. I stopped buying physical and digital movie since 2013 already (last film I ever bought was The Avengers). Nowadays I either download em for free, rent em at Redbox, go to the theater (if it's a big budget film), or watch em via stream.

Imagine their releasing it on Switch card only so that Mario doesn't end up on a PlayStation. Haha.

Already told my kids and they're super excited to be able to rewatch the movie. I'll probably wait til Thursday or Friday to get a little more longevity out of it since we'll rent.

According to the iTunes store here in the Netherlands it will be released on June 7th. Pre-order price is €13,99. Still high, but a lot better than $30.

@PtM its the new model post-covid. shorter release windows to digital / streaming had been discussed for a long time but many studio pushed back on the idea. once covid hit, direct to digital was the ONLY model, then as we started to exit they did simultaneous release of theater / digital. Personally I like this but don't really like the recent price hikes they have placed on digital (and of course Nintendo has $5 premium on the SMB release)

This is not an official home release. Many publishers has released early access to films that are also in theatres for the same price. When The Super Mario Bros. Movie releases on most distribution sites and home video, the price will likely drop, probably $19.99. Also, Amazon does have a rental option while I am writing this, at least in America for $24.99...that rental price will also drop once the film leaves theatres.

It is available to rent now on Amazon but would you really consider paying $24.99 just to rent? You might as well buy the film for 29.99 if you are too impatient for the film to drop everywhere. I suggest you wait for the film officially release on home video or go see it at a movie theatre but I guess that depends on what options are available to you.

Not really a surprise. It was announced three days ago.

This is a film that's still making $£€ at the cinema, and the average spend for one family to see it there (tickets for parent and two kids, plus drinks, popcorn, whatever) is probably at least $20. So of course that's what they're going to charge to watch it on streaming platforms for now.

Amazon Prime UK have it listed for release on the 10th July. If official, that's quite a big gap compared to the US for those who want to check it out.

As a physical collector though, I've got my 4K special edition with the power star shaped case preordered from HMV. Hopefully won't be an even longer wait for the physical.

Is $29.99 standard for a digital movie in the US? That price seems absurd.

I wish Illumination didn't do this. Horribly paced, bad voice acting (atrocious for Cranky and DK), bad writing, poor choice of usual "le 90s pop/rock songs" for the soundtrack. I guess that's what you expect from Hollywood anyway.

Coming out at the end of june in Australia, i'm gonna add it to the DVD collection instead though, pre-orders are cheaper then that

No, that is an early access price which started as an alternative when movie theatres shut down due to city ordinances across America to shut down non-essential businesses in response of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some publishers still try to overcharge despite America has been long open since.

@HistoricKombat Still seems like a bit of a rubbish price. My cinema ticket was ~£10 ($12.50)...and I don't imagine it will cost much more to also buy a digital copy in a few months' time?

@HistoricKombat @Buizel Can confirm, Trolls World Tour was a $20 rental when it launched, and it was for 48 hours, and watched it this way. It's nice they're still doing the "at home theater" movies. I expect the rental price to eventually drop to like $4-6 for the Mario Movie, and I guess it's coming to Peacock given it's a Universal movie.

Though, I was fortunate enough to see a special showing of Trolls World Tour at a local theater last summer, still very thankful for it since I really wanted to see this one on the big screen, and these kind of rentals was the only option. Got really lucky in that regards. Best movie trip ever.

Did see Mario in theaters, so I'm going to wait for the home release, or for the Peacock showing.

I didn't watch the movie. I'll only watch it when it's very cheap on streaming platforms and I'll watch it in my cinema room comfortably with the family, without having to pay for multiple movie tickets.

I decided to buy it for the additional 5 bucks. Still steep but my kids will get milage outta it. And we're already watching it again now.

I'll be getting it on disc, never liked streaming. Even when watching youtube, sometimes it likes to crap out on me and give me constant buffering just because my internet is screwy.

@SnakeForce Pretty sure 2010s kids will get all the 80s and 90s references in this movie, it was totally aimed at them.

The rental is just as much as the purchase. I don't think so. I will wait until my library gets it and I'll watch it for free.

With a two-year-old I couldn't go see this in the theatre so I can finally watch this at home as a family movie!
