Re: Random: Shin Megami Tensei Fans Voted For Their Top Demon, We Kinda Wish They Hadn't

@Damo
Just so you see this feedback. Not trying to clog the feed, but not sure how else to contact staff members. I come to Nintendo life because it is generally one of the FEW safe places online to AVOID this stuff. Seems lately it's been a bit different, not as bad as elsewhere, but we don't need this. I know at some point sites can't cater to me, I can always move on and go to different sites as I moved on from IGN, gamestop, kotaku, etc. because I personally am choosing NOT to look at cleavage, phallic symbols, etc. etc. ... Just wish this place would stay "safe" because I love this site. it's the ONLY gaming site I go to. Thanks for reading.

@GC-161
It's not about sheltering really. I think shelter too much and they just die of shock when they found out what's out there. That said, I recognize it just fine and am intentionally at this site to avoid seeing stuff like that. I know at some point sites can't cater to me, I just have to move on as I did from IGN, gamestop, kotaku, etc. because I personally am choosing NOT to look at cleavage, phallic symbols, etc. etc.

SO I can't check nintendo life with the kids around anymore? I mean come on. I don't want to see that in the first place, but especially to put it front page.

Re: Talking Point: The Case for Super Mario Odyssey as the Greatest Mario Game

speedracer216

LUIGI.
Where is he? Without Luigi it is patently impossible for this to be teh greatest Mario game. I mean, it's the daggone Mario BROTHERS, people! The excuse with Mario 64 was development time and different skill set. No excuse here, with so much extra content and costumes, etc. etc. Luigi should be selectable and playable from the title screen.. If they have to change the princess to Daisy or something in that case, so be it, for the wedding's sake, but you can't just leave out Nintendo's greatest character.

Re: Video: Get Snazzy with Our Top 10 Super Mario Odyssey Costumes

speedracer216

@Dev I get them focusing on Mario, but I heard from 64 it was that they didn't have capacity to develop Luigi separately with his different moveset etc. Well, obviously they do lately as they put him in Galaxy and 3D Land and all of NSLuigiU.

So I just don't get it. It's the Mario BROTHERS so why EVER leave him out??? Year of Luigi was awesome. But leaving him out of flagship titles is bootleg. A big part of why I'm just not that interested in this game.

Re: Video: Get Snazzy with Our Top 10 Super Mario Odyssey Costumes

speedracer216

I will be FURIOUS if the only way to act like Luigi is with a costume.
There better be some "SUPER LUIGI ILIAD" dlc incoming. He got the shaft in 64 and Sunshine, had to be unlocked in Galaxy. I mean come on. I know it's not the year of Luigi, but EVERYONE knows he should be playable. Spend less time on "dress-up" and more on Luigi.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey Is The Best Rated Game Of All Time

speedracer216

@BlueOcean
Exactly. Every great game is the "new" greatest of all time. Same problem in sports. Our memories are so short and it's really hard to compare across generations. Mario Odyssey can be great but review scores are half hype anyway. Almost entirely subjective, etc. etc. etc.

Personally, I still know that Lufia II is the greatest game of all time. On the aggregator site that is my brain it is a perfect 10 across the board.

Re: Super Famicom Exclusive, Far East of Eden Zero, Translated Into English

speedracer216

@ThanosReXXX
good info. I would argue that the japanese do mix Christian lore in though. out of Eden doesn't mean Hell, it just means the world and if the devil has some dominion there it could connect. Even if not, I see them appropriate Biblical stuff in other places precisely because they consider it legend. they often mix it in.

one example is Megami Tensei where the final boss was YHWH, the tetragrammaton which is the way God's name was written in Hebrew in the old testament. Of course, the rest of the story is anti-biblical if anything, but the borrowed element is there.

another example is one of my favorite anime, D. Gray-Man. They use the story of Noah's flood in a lot of weird ways. Both the terminology (a group of people called "Noah" or the "Ark") and flashbacks to the actual biblical story though it includes strange changes of course). Again, it makes virtually no sense with the actual biblical passage, but they seem to enjoy borrowing some of the motifs.

i've actually done a lot of research on biblical stuff in games so it's fun to find these things.
thanks for your insight and the link too!

Re: Super Famicom Exclusive, Far East of Eden Zero, Translated Into English

speedracer216

@ThanosReXXX
translation is always interpretation. "The Devil's World far from Heaven".... what is meant by that? taking the biblical story (based on Devil/Heaven) what is the part of the world far from heaven? Well, if Adam and Eve went East out of the Garden of Eden after the Devil deceived them.... then now they live in the Devil's world very far (in the east direction) from the heaven-like place that was Eden.

I think it was an English attempt to capture the narrative of being cast out into the world after the confrontation with the devil. that is not uncommon in translation when it is thought for thought instead of word for word.

Re: Hardware Review: The Super Famicom Mini Is For Hardcore Collectors Only

speedracer216

ok, we get it. all of Europe feels an inferiority complex and takes any opportunity to insult "North America" or USA.
But come on, the NA SNES is not "downright ugly". Boxy? Sure that describes the design. You don't like boxy? Fine, but that's opinion. A lot of people share it? who cares?
I LOVE the NA design BECAUSE it's boxy. I like the SFC controller better because it's colorful. Why insult the NA SNES EVERY SINGLE TIME!?!?!? it gets old and it's a petty / bad look.

Re: Soapbox: The Switch Has a Big Problem, and It's Too Many Great Games

speedracer216

sure tons of games, but a ton are indy (not that those are bad, but they are limited) and a ton more are ports or re-releases. Not unusual for the first year, but I feel like we're in some serious self-back-patting group think here.

those of you who frequent other game sites (i don't) - is the buzz actually positive about switch, or are we just looking for things to be happy about because this site is called nintendolife?

Re: Sony is Publishing an Indie Title, Tiny Metal, on the Switch

speedracer216

@Elanczewski
like when i first found out that Jordan and Barkley are friends or that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning love golfing together.
I was SHOCKED and APPALLED. lol. Turns out people who like the same thing (sports or making games) enjoy being together and hope each other succeed. lol
Anyway, now back to raging online against sony ponies, xbots, and nintendrones.

Re: Video: Check Out Nintendo's Fabulous Live Action Super Mario Odyssey Musical

speedracer216

On another note, I haven't seen anyone say this, but I think "Odyssey" is not just a fun word for Mario's big adventure.
THEORY: I think it's based on Homer's Odyssey. Paulina is either Calypso (who imprisoned Odysseus) or a siren (thus the singing) trying to keep him from returning to his wife, Peach. Meanwhile, thinking he's gone for good (like Odysseus) other suiters (Bowser) come to try to win his bride (Peach) but she stays faithful while he journeys back to her. at the end Mario will slay Bowser just like Odysseus slew the suitors.

you heard it here first. 20 years from now a "developer interview" will tell us how the islands were based on parts of that epic poem.

Re: Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts Gets the MSU1 Digital Audio Enhancement Treatment

speedracer216

NEver really attempted this before SNES classic edition. Rewind feature makes it's money right here. lol. how did anyone actually play this back in the day? it's not just hard, but has instant death from things with no warning. demands thousands of playthroughs probably.

ALSO - when i did the rewind until finally getting to the princess and the STARTING OVER IS PART OF THE GAME?!?!?!?!!? nope. done with this. it was fun enough with rewind, but that's an insane troll.
