Re: Poll: Nintendo's Switch Arcade Archives - Is It the Retro Gaming You Want?

speedracer216

@Proust Right? I need to vote "none"
Look at this list?
Vs. Super Mario Bros. - not that fun and available in like 40 ways anyhow
Vs. Balloon Fight - I HATE THIS GAME.
Vs. Ice Climber - I HATE THIS GAME TOO. Intriguing on NES Remix but only cuz of added challenges and I was thankful when I rainbowed that part and could move on.
Vs. Pinball - Really?
Vs. Clu Clu Land - Fun but gets old fast.
Punch-Out!! - again, available in 40 places

Re: Switch US Retail Game Sales 'On Pace' for Nintendo's Best Launch Year Since 1995

speedracer216

I feel strange.
Are people really hyped about this or is it just that it's better than Wii? I haven't heard a single person mention Switch where I live except my hard core gaming buddy. Not just they don't have it, no one even talks about it.
I know that is super anecdotal, but i just haven't felt any hype for this system. for some reason Odyssey doesn't seem that interesting and nothing else is a killer app right now.
Like I said, I feel strange. I'm all nintendo all the time. everything else is the "also ran" for me. but I could not care less about the switch.

Re: Editorial: The SNES Classic Mini, Star Fox, and Downsides to Being a Mega Drive Kid

speedracer216

People pick on the StarFox graphics a bit today, but I still think like a 90's gamer and in context they are fun, and the gameplay, sound, etc. is awesome. "Me-muh-num mnah-neh" is a quotable quote in my house (go listen to Falco talk on SNES...)

In turn, the SNES library is so brilliant I am STILL finding amazing games I never heard of. Some carts are $$$ but some are only $ or $$. Can't remember the last time I bought a current-gen game b/c I'm so hooked on SNES again.

Re: Video: Learn About the "Guts Pose!" and Why It's In So Many Games

speedracer216

I'm not buyin it.
I don't see any weird movement from Guts himself. Just fist pumping.
And the video examples are all completely different from each other. Apparently any arm movement is a "guts pose" ??? Sounds more like guts pose just means an fist-pump after you win/upset your opponent.
Cuz the only common thread was that some of the animations have a low fist pump (didn't even see Guts do this himself) and that is a normal thing to do anywhere whether you ever heard of guts or learned it or not.

@Ralizah
Here's my wishlist so far:
Metroid Prime 4

The only game that may force me to get a switch. lol. not sure why i'm not excited about mario, tbh. but Metroid could be my system seller and then i'll back-fill the wishlist.

Re: Hyperkin Shows Off Working Version Of Its Supa Retron HD SNES Clone

speedracer216

What i like about this is that it can play SNES and SFC carts and looks more like a SNES than the retron 5 for example. Assuming it can apply translation patches to actual carts, that's about all i'd need. cheaper than retron 5 if you just want the one console, but this should be like $40 not $80 imo. at least to get em to buy it.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

speedracer216

everything I'm reading on metacritic is that VC (virtual currency) is out of control and the game is now built on micro-transactions and even things in the game (like your agent) will take that currency from you so you have to earn more incredibly slowly in game or buy it from 2k for real money. Hm..... haven't played it myself but that doesnt' sound good.

Re: Review: R.B.I. Baseball 17 (Switch)

speedracer216

@milliag
excellent comment.
the review sounds like it's describing the EXACT same game as RBI Baseball on NES. all that's missing is 8bit chibi characters with limited detail.

I still LOVE that game and play it regularly because it's NOT a sim, just pitch and swing, but it works. This sounds like it does not, so I'll stick with my SNES.

Re: Here's How Much Data You'll Need To Download For NBA 2K18 On Switch

speedracer216

@KingMike
I don't understand 5gb at all. Tracking a whole league and all the stats, season, trades, etc is still small data. just numbers really. video and pictures are what take up space but all the assets should be in the base game already with the save file just telling the game where to look for certain pieces of info or what fields to populate with #'s like shooting percentage.

Re: Here's How Much Data You'll Need To Download For NBA 2K18 On Switch

speedracer216

For those of us who can do math... this is NOT an ok solution.

Nintendo sell people a "$300" system.... that needs a $100 controller, a $200 memory card, and that's just to fit games from the first year. Never mind if the thing lasts a decade.

i guess xbox got everyone used to it back when they sold you the system and THEN told you to go buy an HDD for your games.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Suggests That Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition Isn't So Definitive

speedracer216

@Arehexes
it would benefit me. haha. and i'm more of a hardcore SNES fan who loves my games on a cart. i'm not alone there, though there probably aren't enough of us to make it worth it to Rayman.

i would argue download only is what only benefits rayman fans. that's a very different experience than "a brand new SNES game!" (see also: StarFox 2 - would love that on a cart as well, but obviously part of the sell is putting it on SNES-like hardware)

WHICH is another thought.... if Nintendo made NES or SNES expandable instead of closed, you might have more a chance of those unreleased games like SF2 finding a home... oh well.
