In a bit of a surprising move Amazon has opened pre-orders on a New Nintendo 3DS XL - Super NES Edition in North America, which hasn't (at the time of writing) been revealed by Nintendo [Update: Nintendo of America has now re-tweeted an official announcement by Amazon].
Pre-orders on both Amazon US and Amazon Canada give a release date of 27th November, with box art showing that Super Mario Kart is pre-installed on the device. An equivalent arrived with the relevant regional design in Europe recently, but there'd been little indication that Nintendo of America was planning to follow suit.
It's priced at $199.99 in the US and CDN$239.99 in Canada; pre-order links are below.

An official announcement is probably imminent; do you think you'll grab one of these systems?

Now if it only came pre-loaded with the mini games then we can talk. Looks great though!
I think I like it?
I like Europes design better though
That's a very nice design, though I like my PAL SNES N3DS XL more.
Nice that the US version gets an SNES download title though, the EU release didn't even get a home theme.
Honestly, I think it looks horrible compared to the Super Famicon and EU SNES one; yet miffed they get Mario Kart included.
I just wish Nintendo would get on with it and announce a successor to the 3DS. How many more ways can you re-package a 2011 product?
Sorry but this one looks pants compared to the European version
@Bunkerneath @RupeeClock @FX102A in the immortal words of Dr. Frankenfurter: I didn't make him for you!!
Super Mario kart is NOT pre-loaded. There is a download code included only. You have to go download the game yourself. Still cool that it’s free though.
Awesome I just found my next 3DS.
The look of the NA SNES is fine (because that's what I grew up with), but this thing... This thing is just ugly.
I think this looks pretty terrible. I'm okay with the color scheme/overall theme, but something about the giant blocky power/reset switches on the top looks wonky.
Looks okay, but that price is far too much. I'll just try for another SNES mini.
@Alikan And in the words of Señor Heisenberg: "Your G**damn Right".
Hahaha, that looks super-derpy if you ask me.
That is super cool, and I love the look of it, but I don't personally have $200 sitting around to get another system I already own just for another look unfortunately.
Also, I love Super Mario Kart, but why a multiplayer focused game when the multiplayer doesn't even work on the 3DS version?
Gonna talk about Atlus' SMT V teaser news yet? They just confirmed it. Switch exclusive too.
Wow.....All the people who keep saying 3DS is a dead system should let Nintendo know. Don't think they care, though.
Oh, how I wish I could just port my entire 3DS onto the Switch. I want to be done!
Yes, yes, we know it's ugly, but it's our ugly. Haha, this is pretty sweet for those who haven't jumped on the 3DS. Not sure it's worth it at this point, but still that's a great special edition.
Thought this was the Super NES Classic Mini at first because I read this too fast. (insert sad face) & XD XD
I certainly don't need another 3DS, but this looks pretty cool.
Just saw this on Amazon. The best part to me was how Amazon was advertising it on the top of their website, the main page, and when you clicked on it you got an entire page full of 3DS and Switch. That's a very long way from Wii U being invisible.

I still think it's crazy 3DS XL launched 5 years ago at $199 and it's still $199 all these years later. I know they updated it w/ the New 3DS XL but even that is 2 1/2 years old now. Buying it now for launch date MSRP seems a little insane. Fortuantly New 3DS XL is on sale this week at Target for $175 so it might be time to pick one up.

SNES version is nice, but I think I still like the purple galaxy version better.
@AirElephant I hope they stick to JUST the Switch for awhile. They have their console and their handheld markets combined into one device finally. A new handheld would be a bad idea at the moment.
This would only excite me if Nintendo had any intention of reviving 3DS VC support, which I doubt.
Once upon a time I imported the Super Famicom N3DSXL and got it hacked to be region free. It's the nicest aesthetic looking of the N3DS systems. The ALBW 3DSXL is still number 1 imo. While I don't find it as good looking, there is something to be said about the design of the inside that I actually like (compared to the outside). Ahhhh, who am I kidding. I'm a die hard handheld collector and I already pre-ordered this. I believe this will be my 10th New Nintendo 3DS of some sort (small white, small black, Majora's Mask, Hyrule, Fire Emblem, Pikachu, Metroid, Super Famicom, Turquoise 2DSXL). #addicted
I think the European design looks much better! I received my European PAL SNes New 3DS XL on 13 October 2017 and I really like the looks of it! I’m playing a lot more on this little beast than on my Switch the last weeks!
I’ll just get the Pokeball New 2DS XL, thank you very much.
@rjejr actually the 3ds xl launched 5 years ago, in 2012. The standard 3ds came out in spring 2011, which was 6 years ago. This is in regards to North American releases.
Of course they release this just after I finally get a new 3DS XL. That's how it always goes.
I would seriously love to have one....would be my 4th 3DS however.
Why this thing retails so high is still beyond me. And including a download code for a 25 year old game that is meant to be played in multiplayer as the bundled title is so unbelievably cheap and lazy.
To nobody's surprise, it's already sold out
@CheezIt Thanks, changed the 7 to a 5. Still seems a long time for video game hardware to be the launch MSRP, but accuracy is important.
Aww. Too little too late for me. If this had come out when they did the super famicom versions I would have been first in line. Now? I'll be on my switch.
I would of got this if I didn't buy one in 2012. 2013. 2015. 2016
Very tempting considering I'm still thinking of upgrading my original 3DS before support is completely dropped. Unfortunately I'll have to pass for now due to other impending purchases.
...I still may jump on a holiday bundle of sorts on Black Friday if funds allow though.
does prime discount apply to videogame hardware like it does to pre-order games?
@Pichuka97
still letting me pre-order
The exterior paint job looks a little cartoony for my taste. But I love the interior with the SNES colored buttons.
@Juma009
I'm currently on my 8th 3DS (Well...7th, if you don't count the 2DS). Just got the Samus model.
I love it but I cannot afford one sadly.
I will get one if I get the chance to.
EDIT: I was able to get a preorder in! Huzzah!
Please Nintendo just stop with the 3DS.... Move on already the Switch is doing amazing. Focus on the Switch or announce a new dedicated handheld .
I love it!
If I upgrade my 3DS XL, it'll probably be to a New 2DS XL instead. Been checking to see how much I could sell my 3DS for--it's the blue Pokemon X/Y Limited Edition, so probably has a bit of resale value--to offset some of the cost.
But it really doesn't feel like much of a priority. The SNES VC is the main draw, along with having a system that can properly run Hyrule Warriors.
(facepalm) Just when I'm broke and already have a black New 3DS Regular. I'll preorder one anyways because it's SNES and for fear of this being as easy to find as hen's teeth.
@DiggerandIndy
Same here. I couldn't resist. I even like the look, but I guess it must be those rose-colored Nostalgia glasses. I'm glad they're on permanently on my face. LOL!
@oatmealwarrior92 no way, I got switch and 3ds and want to see 3ds have another 2 years in it. One of the best gaming devices ever. A lot of people would rather have them continue supporting a system they already have instead of having to buy another $200+ portable with possibly no backwards compatibility. Its also better for Nintendo as they are making more money off game sales on hardware that is owned by so many versus a brand new product.
@AirElephant that'd likely be suicide for the Switch and possibly this successor handheld. The whole point of the Switch is it can be both console and handheld. Releasing a new handheld undermines half that, it'd then just be an underpowered home console. The Switch clearly IS the 3DS successor (and the Wii U successor). They could've killed off the 3DS entirely given its age but it'd be risky if they're moving to the hybrid model, as the 3DS can still pull in money while the Switch is still in its infancy. Already it's been announced Pokémon is abandoning 3DS after Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. I'd expect the 3DS to fizzle out next year.
gasp A Nintendo Life article with the North American design that doesn't spend a chunk of it calling the design awful and ugly!? Honestly, I'm disappointed that this is an amazing development...
Anyways, cool-looking release. Although I wouldn't bust out a bunch of cash for a repaint something I already have at this point. I don't have that kind of loose change.
I pre ordered it. Its ugly but so was my childhood. Lol.
Perhaps they should have put Star Fox 2 with it? Also why am I the only person that finds it attractive?
I don't like the look of this as well as my Super Famicom 3DS LL (Japanese import), but it's still pretty cool and nicely faithful to the NA SNES. Not sure if I'll keep my pre-order or not, given that we already have so many 3DS systems in our collection and the Japanese version already does a good job of scratching the SNES-nostalgia-itch.
One of the best ideas Nintendo ever had were the changeable face plates on the 3DS. One of the greediest ideas they ever had was dropping this feature and returning to only special edition systems.
@speedracer216 Yeah my bad. I guess I checked before they went live in Canada. Thanks for the heads up, I got one now c:
Super Mario Kart, one of the lamest bundle game Nintendo had ever included with a handheld. What good is the original Super Mario Kart when you can't even play multiplayer on it? Best to just include Super Mario World or Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island instead, heck I would even prefer Super Mario All-Stars, any of the Donkey Kong Country games, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or even the unreleased Star Fox 2. It just makes no sense to include Super Mario Kart cause now you can't play Battle Mode.
