@Zingo Why garbage? To me it felt like "let's find out what content they like best so we can provide that and get more visitors for our sites" Win for them and if they post content I like isn't that a win for me?
No choice for "Library" !?!?!??! as if I would pay for movies when the local library loans em for free for 7 days instead of $5 for 24 hrs like Amazon or whoever.
@roadrunner343 If i were running a company.... this would be a perfect place to do something like kickstarter.
You REALLY want Mother 3? SD3? whatever other game? Ok! Here's the kickstarter. The cost of translation is x, the cost of carts is y, etc. so if we raise "$xx,xxx" dollars and you donated $20 you get the e-shop version, if you did $30 you get a custom SNES cart!"
whatever the overhead is, they add it in and make it up to us to drum up the interest. fans are pretty rabid about that stuff so i wouldn't be surprised to see it work.
I agree for the future AND for the past. How cheap is it for Square to make another run of Chronotrigger carts? Charge $20 or $30 and cash in. No work to be done but find manufacturing. OR if they localized games (like Seiken Densetsu 3) and made them e-shops, but printed a number of carts too???
2. When McMillen first created the game he wrote an article to explain why he chose such dark subject matter and such intense religious elements:
Summary? he didn't think anyone would like the game, but created it to help him personally process his own religious background where he felt crushed by guilt and anger.
For what it's worth: As a Christ follower I'm not necessarily offended by this, but I feel for McMillen (and by extension for Isaac) because it sounds like he got all of the human religiosity and none of the hope that God offers through Christ. I've wrestled with guilt, anger, and shame too. Without Christ, I would feel like Isaac too.
I won't spoil the "super secret ending" but for McMillen's sake I hope he finds more hope than Isaac!
I will (eventually) buy a Switch for any of the following reasons:
1. Beyond Good & Evil 2 announced. (Exclusive is best, but even if timed exclusive) 2. Another YEAR OF LUIGI (when I bought my 3ds AND Wii U) 3. REAL Metroid 4. Tropical Freeze follow up ( and re-release?) 5. Free transfer of past e-shop or Wii U games (or cheap upgrade like to Mario Kart 8)
3DS is one of my most cherished for two simple reaons
1. YEAR OF LUIGI. I wasn't going to buy it until I heard about that and then I bought the the hardware branded with the YoL logo and Mario and Luigi: Dream Team installed.
2. Backwards compatibility. ALL of the Dragon Quest games etc. from DS .... AND all the 3ds library.
and try to tell me Nintendo isn't fun. haha. i only got this from the library, but the song alone makes me think i'll have a blast with splatoon 2. .... er... have a splat with splatoon 2?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Agreed on hidden costs. And yet, our consumer culture (at least in USA) seems to be tricked EVERY TIME by small intro price and then big add-ons. Like when Xbox tried selling systems on payment plans. They were like $15/mo or something, but over time added up to $100 MORE than just buying the system.
Or how everyone is so pumped to get a "free" Iphone with their new cell plan..... except the phone is prorated into the plan, plus the higher charge for more data, plus the extra $10 "smartphone fee"............
lol. it's crazy how people just look at the first number and say "not bad". i wish nintendo hadn't used this tactic (buy your own memory!) but it seems to be working as the hype is real to some extent.
for me the only time this would be needed is like vacation or something where we're bouncing from place to place fishing or restaurant or.... but wait wouldn't I be fishing and eating instead of playing Switch? loll
OR for long car rides. We used to drive from Chicago to San Fran. 3 days bro. Need MOAR battery! but even then I'd probably be figuring how to plug it into the car not buy another battery to lug around.
I really want to love this game. (that commercial "kid now squid now" is so classic 90's commercials) and the music is awesome..... .....but....... I'm just so bad at it
As much as I enjoyed my few hours borrowing BotW from a friend, it doesn't make me love ALttP any less! In fact, it got me hungry for Zelda again and what I thought we be a few minutes of nostalgia has turned into a full playthrough of ALttP again (my favorite Zelda).
Meanwhile, I don't like ANY of the multiplayer ones AT ALL. But some people do.
It sorta like how Alien and Aliens were both great movies although completely different (dif directors just like dif Zelda designers). But Alien III and on.... garbage
So let's get some more Zelda 1/BotW .... AND.... more ALttP/ALBW. A linke Between Worlds caught me by surprise, didn't think they'd "go back" like that while going forward, but I loved it.
@Fath True, I wouldn't do it the lazy way. Still seems it would be faster (1 or 2 people take a week?) to do what you described than to have a team take several months. I could be wrong of course, and you make a good point!
I wish companies would get on board with that. I mean, the fans just want the game, have them sign over rights, keep the price lower than paying for localization and we get an OFFICIAL release! Even tweak the translation if you want.
That's my dream. They could probably print SNES carts for like $1, put in a free fan translation (with permission) and localize games to their original systems. Almost pure profit. I would pay $20-30 for those.
Me too. I like to work up to my 100% file and then save it for posterity, or days I just want to run around OP and explore what I remember.
Other days I like to start from scratch and play the game afresh. Like on Lufia 2 there are four saves slots: so I have one right before the boss, one while all my favorite party members are together, one for Retry mode, and one right at the Ancient Cave.
Just bought (again) Secret of Mana for SNES. So great. I also bought SD3 for SFC but that language barrier..... So this would be AWESOME.
Interesting we're seeing collections and upgrades instead of e-shop. Either way. all retro revivals are good and if it's a chance for first-time localization.... I WOULD BUY A SWITCH FOR THAT.
That's right. SNES games I never got would be system sellers for me. Would actually prefer they sell localized SNES carts... that's gotta be cheap right? throw in as a cross-buy collector's item or something?
Wow. I've been replaying this and totally skip the fortune teller..... but now I feel like it's a real person. I won't waste rupies, but maybe i'll go say hello. haha
They need to do local multiplayer like the did with Mario Kart on DS..... two systems can share certain modes/tracks with one cart through local wireless. then we each use our own switch.
@WOLF1313 Hard to argue that at this point especially because there are so few games announced and all the must-haves are Nintendo games. Any console has to fill it's calendar with must-haves from other companies.
Hopefully these are just early droughts from the weird decision not to send out more devkits and as devs catch up we'll get more announcements toward Christmas. Never know how it will go for a mid-cycle system launch because so many have 5-10yr plans invested in other systems.
@thesilverbrick Not only that, but I think the main reason they put main series on handheld is because it has such a huge social element. Trading and battling Pokemon is a huge part of it and only possible if we can bring our systems (handhelds) together.
As a home console that can go anywhere, Switch is the first home console to erase that hurdle. So I think it may be "i only like a system that can do the social part" more than "i only like handheld".
I just realized.... Switch is Nintendo's answer to cross-buy.
Want the game for Wii U and 3DS? What you REALLY want is the game on console and mobile. BOOM. Nintendo Switch. They only have to make the game once, market it once, etc. but you have it both ways. Cross-buy is the future? Nintendo says it's the past.
@Switch81tch passes out. falls and hits head. wakes up in hospital super pumped for SD3
I have this cart for SNES and tried to play with the google translate app... it's just to idiomatic. Can't make heads or tales of "today is the day I peel off my face".
Wouldn't it be a dream if Nintendo (or whoever) would allow for people who BUY the game to apply FREE translation patches? I'll buy this on VC and they can let fans do the work of localizing. They get the $$, I get the game! Want to play, but want to do it the right way!
They've been around for a little while. Always thought it was weird to pay you money to drive me around and play your games.... when the same money could buy me the system/games myself. lol
That said, Mario Kart parties are ALWAYS fun be they home or on the road.
@westman98 I wonder if that's almost TOO many for holiday. Could come with a 2018 dearth. Maybe Mario for Christmas and save Pokemon for March or something. I'm not expert, just thinking about momentum.
The downside is if they don't sell they'll have abig pile of them sitting around deterring them from a future upgrade (like Switch Lite) or whatever with fixed screen scratch, fixed joycons, more memory, etc.
Heroes was the first one I ever tried playing. Couldn't download right for like 20 tries and when it finally did there was... gratuitous cleavage? why? I guess they're trying to capture the 13yr old boy with the iphone and 99c to wastek, but I moved on without even playing it. oh well.
@Kalmaro So would that mean Retron 5 or other retro based consoles are also wrong? they let you play SNES carts, but they are not a SNES. they emulate. Or even that new one that will read straight from the cart, but is still not an actual SNES.
