Re: Mr. Shifty Devs Tackling Frame Rate Issues After Initially Suggesting You Should Pick Steam Over Switch

speedracer216

@MegaMari0

Good point, especially saying they CHOSE to leave the frame-rate issues (rather than leave stuff out....) that tells me three things:

1. I thought maybe it didn't show in their testing, but it did and they hoped no one would care?

2. They are not talented programmers maybe? The Zelda comparison (which seems prepared ahead of time "hey if anyone complains.... Zelda you know?") - has way more content and physics going on so I can't imagine more skill or more time couldn't deliver full content AND better framerate.

3. Another third party rushing their Switch entry to cash in before the real games arrive??? An ill omen...

Re: Namco Museum Cover Art Hints At Physical Release On Switch

speedracer216

@Tibob
Because I own it forever. Nothing tied to a console or even an account. AND I can resell them to get others. Like this week I bought R-Type III so now I can sell Super R-type to help pay for it. If they were both digital I couldn't do that.

I like the convenience of digital for not having to walk up to the deck and switch games or for portable because it's easier to take a bunch of games with instead of a bunch of cartridges, but for me that is outweighed by the ownership and ability to re-sell (or buy cheaper off of other people!) That's why companies push digital. Besides production costs, they don't want me buying yours on eBay, they want me to have to buy ANOTHER one from them.

Re: SuperData Says Nintendo Sold 2.4 Million Switch Consoles Worldwide in March

speedracer216

Honestly, to sell that many with "just" Zelda tells us two things: 1. Zelda is a big deal. 2. Nintendo has dedicated/hopeful fans.

Honestly, Nintendo has a lot of "system sellers" in their arsenal. A new Metroid as good as the prime series would sell consoles. I bought my Wii U for Luigi U.

And if they really get Beyond Good & Evil 2.... especially if it's timed exclusive or exclusive, those kinds of things will move systems. And Mario's not even here yet.

Re: My Nintendo Gets a Fresh Batch of Rewards

speedracer216

Quick thought:
I still have my NES. I still have my SNES. I still have my 64. I still have my Gamecube. I still have my Wii. I even own a Wii U (for Luigi!). ...... I STILL HAVE MY VIRTUAL BOY, gameboy, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, DS, DS Lite, 3DS.

Clearly, I spend too much on gaming. Clearly, I am also a big time Nintendo supporter.... YET....

1. I have no real idea how to even get coins. It was confusing and the rewards are so weak I didn't even bother to find out.

2. Even I don't want/need any of this.

It's not hurting me. It's just.... pointless.

Re: Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time Gets 3DS Release Date in Japan, But No Switch Details

speedracer216

I love the approach they are taking on 3DS where you can go with the DQIX type visuals or switch to the 16 bit style like old school. Will be hard to choose!

And it may sound weird, but that also allows me to skip the revealing costumes that are all to prevalent in games these days. No worries when I get to choose the graphics!

I don't know how much extra work that was, but it's so retro i love it!

Re: Video: Updated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Trailer Aims for Top Gear

speedracer216

DEATH STARE CONFIRMED. 1:03 on the video. Haha. That took the world by storm when the game first came out. Love Luigi.

I totally agree with others that it's hard to buy this again, for me it's part price and it's part having to rebeat all the tracks.

Really wish Nintendo would have shown some love to the faithful Wii U few (VERY few apparently). A discount or something, but I don't think they care about us right now. They need the millions of others who didn't have Wii U. For now, no Switch for me nor this game. My self-control (and budget) says "anywhere" would be fun, but I already have this game.

Re: Snake Pass Studio Sumo Digital Talks Updates, amiibo Options And Why The Time Trial Mode Is Missing

speedracer216

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Yeah, the reasoning makes sense, and I appreciate the explanation about the CPU/GPU function that goes into calculating physics more than just displaying graphics. People don't realize how much is behind the scenes in software unless they have done some programming themselves.

Weird they didn't just announce "don't worry, time trial is coming" instead of it being announced round-about in this AMA. all-told, this increases my positive vibes toward the game though i don't own a switch.

Re: Nintendo Is "Getting With The Times" When It Comes To Indies On Switch, Says Image & Form

speedracer216

3rd party won't come if it's too much work

They only came to Wii because sales were insane, but even then it was spin-offs, sloppy ports, or "waggle editions". So even with support on Wii, Nintendo didn't get the same games.

Wii U was just as hard to port to with the "unique" feature of the dual screen like the Wii's motion control so they skipped it almost entirely because the sales weren't there.

I sense Switch could follow that trend. IF sales are high, 3rd party will come..... but not with the games you want. You will not get Resident Evil 7. You will get a stylized Resident Mii-vil 7.

Re: Aonuma Says That Open World Is Here to Stay in Zelda Games

speedracer216

I've been playing ALttP again. was just for a bit of nostalgia..... but got totally hooked all over again. seeing parts I forgot. figuring out dungeons with my kid.

If BotW is what the first was dreamed as (open wander anywhere from the start) then I'd love to see BotW2 be like ALttP. Bigger, longer, but with those Zelda tropes back that make it feel like home (Tri-Force focus, dungeons for items to get to other dungeons, etc.)

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

speedracer216

@ThanosReXXX
Yeah, Eurogamer loses a lot of credibility on this one for saying "too much like Banjo Kazooie. Shoudl've been more like Nuts and Bolts."

FAIL. Nuts and Bolts was my first BK game and I thought "why all the hype? if this is BK, it's garbage." Later found out it is not really BK at all. Just garbage. Actual BK is fun.

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

speedracer216

@BAN
Take me for example - i don't like DK64 because it was too much of a departure from DKC on SNES and too many lame characters.
But I DO like Banjo Kazooie even if I get frusrated at re-collecting so much stuff when I die.

So now they say this is too mcuh like Banjo? Then I guess I like it. Paying attention for the first time now!

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

speedracer216

Guys, you have to actually READ the reviews! And I would love to know the average age of the reviewers.

Negative: Too much like 90's platformers.
HELLO! That was the whole point. lol.
"If you want something like Banjo Kazooie, it delivers. 5.5"
HAHAHA again. that's the point.

And that is EXACLTLY what I want. I had no interest in this game until I picked up Banjo KAzooie for the first time a couple months ago. Yes, in 2017, and I love it. speaks to all my retro gamer fun zones. So this one feels like that one? Then for the first time, I'm interested. I want MORE games that feel more like the 90's when i was a kid.

Re: Nintendo Switch Is Selling Faster In Japan Than The PS4 Did, But Not As Quick As The Wii U

speedracer216

#'s mean nothing without the right games.

Wii sold HUGE numbers, but i don't really love my wii. outside of Nintendo's own efforts, we missed a LOT of multiplat big titles, or got gimped and delayed ports, and then a TON of shovelware.

I actually think that created fatigue for buyers and was the true undoing of Wii U. "I'm not buying it. I still have a Wii but I never play it." There weren't enough good enough games.

Switch could be in the same boat. Zelda woohoo! Play anywhere woohoo! ..... but play what anywhere? If this phase of Wii U ports gives way to a great catalog of first and third party including multiplats, then we're on a roll. If it gives way to Switch specific dumpster dives then the system can sell and still be a flop.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Breaks Down the Resolution and Framerate in Splatoon 2

speedracer216

@Maxz
and this is where I'm with YOU in spirit:
I like the digital foundry videos too and am happy to see them shared as fact. I think NL feels like they have to apologize for those facts whenever they say "it's 720p......... which is really not that bad if you think about it and at least its runs with a (respectable) framerate.... all things consdier and besides no one ever thought switch would be more powerful than blah blah blah"

haha. I built my own PC with near-top of the line specs a few years ago. the numbers game is interesting. but i'm not replacing parts every year because the numbers game doesn't effect how fun the game is. that's all i meant. mature discussion is great. comments sections are.... the internet still nowhere near as bad as something like ign though.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Breaks Down the Resolution and Framerate in Splatoon 2

speedracer216

"understandable changes"
"possible tradeoff"
"visual compromises"
"not too bad, considering"

I keep seeing these kind of half-apologetic phrases in all these articles, but here's the thing: i have never once said "I wonder how many p's I'm gonna get in this game, except when playing Mario 3.

I ALWAYS ask myself, is this gonna be some dag-gone fun or should I skip it?

Does that make me old school? Idk. I have no idea what the framerate or resolution were on DKC:TF, Yoshi's Island, or Megaman 2. among countless others across all generations. All I know is, they play great and were straight up fun. #'s like FPS and resolution are largely marketing. Like Sega saying "blast processing!" who cares. SNES had better/more games. But... but.. teraflops! lol. Games, my friend. Games.

If this game is fun, that's all that matters. Don't pretend you can't have fun if it's 720 instead of 1080 or 4k. The only thing you lose is playground bragging rights "i got more p's bro. like 4 million p's".
