@Al_Godoy that would be amazing, but alas I don't have any hope of it. But I still think it's likely we'd get Geno as a character After all Sakurai is on record saying that he wanted to put Geno in before.
The Last Guardian is good in the PS2 era, but it's kinda broken and bad today. Couldn't disagree more with his take on Mario Odyssey and BotW though, but to each their own
There we are. I was waiting for this, thought we were just going to get the individual releases in the "AGES" games. This is MUCH better for ones that are included, like the Sonic titles.
Sonic Mania was a dream come true for this long-time Sonic fan. It more than made up for the disappointment that was Sonic 4. I see a lot of comments in this criticizing the level design-- I feel like maybe some of those don't understand what Sonic is all about. It is a platformer, but people look at it and compare it directly to Mario, which would seem fair at first, but the comparison falls apart upon further inspection.
Mario (and other platformers of that time like DKC) are course clear games where you can almost always find every secret in one run, maybe two. At maximum, you'll have one branching path to the sky or to an underworld, and perhaps one or two secret exits. Sonic, however, has a multitude of branching paths and options for players, which can seem overwhelming if you are expecting to stop and explore each one, which is NOT the way to play Sonic. During a run through, you are technically always making a choice to use one path INSTEAD of several others, which is such a different experience. The levels make perfect sense, and I would argue they are NOT a mess as many commenters here are saying, but rather that they just require a less completionistic playstyle.
Gotta say I'm having trouble keeping up with the games so this lull is good for getting a few done until the end of the year. Not that it's been much of a lull for me, having just started Splatoon, Crash, and a few others.
@WaveBoy "The reality is, sonic 1-3 were never good games."
The reality is, millions of people disagree with you.
I respect that you don't like classic Sonic games-- you don't have to. But that doesn't make them bad games. For example: I hate Counterstrike for a lot of reasons, but it's at least a well made game. It's just not for me. Sonic 1-3 are classic icons of the genre that had a major influence on platformers in both style and substance. The evidence of the continued praise, re-releases, huge fanbase, and millions in sales for Sonic Mania show that they are anything but bad games.
Yeah some of the issues here are kind of glaring and unacceptable. BUT! The core mechanics of this game are so fun. I knew the issues going in, played a bit with a friend who bought it day 1, and decided that it was something I still wanted to play. And man it's been fun! Even despite those issues, the gameplay is so damn good.
I've got plenty to play until October rolls around with Mario Party. I can hardly keep up with my backlog now. Can't wait to see what else they have in store for the holidays!
I will say, I do have a few dock scratches next to the screen in the little black bar space, but they are invisible when I put on a glass screen protector, and now that I've been more cognizant of that, I haven't had an issue with scratching on the protector
I have had my Switch since launch night and have had none of the issues reported yet. I think there may have been a few bad batches of plastic, sort of like with those early SNES consoles that turn yellow. With as many people as this is happening to, it's clearly a problem, but with as many people as it's NOT happening to, it makes me think it's less of a design flaw and more of a problem with the manufacture of some of the early components.
@0muros It's a hybrid. Not everybody uses it the same way as you. Comparing it to a phone isn't fair, since it's meant to be used both ways. Normal use shouldn't hurt the device in those ways, and to claim otherwise is disingenuous.
Any of you guys ever heard of Netflix? You pay 9.99 a month for movies you won't even own after they decide to take them down or you cancel your subscription! What a bunch of bull, right?
If you want the old games to own there are a BAJILLION ways to get them and play them, the SNES classic being only one recent example. I get that it would be great to have the option to purchase, but some of us really like the idea of enhanced games on a Netflix style service! I own most of the older games in their original carts so this service appeals to someone like me. Maybe it doesn't to you, but that doesn't make it a ripoff ya' big crybabies
Love the design of this-- but on the Switch I've become so anti-cartridge I don't think I'd ever fill it up! I have so many digital games mainly because I like not having to get up from the couch when I wanna play a new game.
@youkoaoshi No doubt, it is ironic. But as a fan of that console, I can say people really didn't know about it. Also, the wait for the eventually decent library was excruciating!
Acting like Smash isn't going to sell Switches because it didn't sell WiiU consoles is disingenuous! The Switch is a better console with more to offer that has a great reputation and excellent marketing. It also has way more games to play than Wii U had at the time of Smash's launch! Plus, Pokemon Let's Go appeals to a pretty broad audience and I think will bring in some GO players. Nobody likes to predict the death of Nintendo more than Nintendo fans, but I don't see this Xmas being anything short of great for Ninty.
Very excited for this. Pokemon Yellow was my first pokemon game, and my first Gameboy game. I still have my old Pokemon Yellow GBC, and I've played through Yellow three times (probably another one to get prepped for this new release). So that game is really special to me, and to see an HD remake that looks like what I imagined Pokemon would become when I was a kid is really cool. Plus all these new ways to play seem really neat too! Day one purchase for me.
I will buy this game either way, but I'd be floored and giddy if this was an expanded and more fully realized Kanto game. Before you start yelling at me about being a Genwunner, keep in mind that I played and loved GS&C, X&Y, B&W, and Sun and Moon. Being able to play through Kanto again though in a much bigger and more complete world would bring tears to my eyes.
Y'know, the biggest cheater in my neighborhood beat me at Goldeneye by screen-looking 12 times. The biggest cheater in the state won a friendly smash tournament by giving his buddies broken controllers, but you don't know his name, do you? But it's Chad Leonard. Billy Mitchell though, everybody knows his name. He cheated in Donkey Kong to get the first high-score over a million points. So there's a level of difference between people, and that translates to some games.
@Paraka Steve has done a lot of scores in public-- his skill in the game is pretty well documented. He got the highest score ever achieved in public (987000 I think?) back during King of Kong at Funspot. That has probably been supplanted but it stands to reason that he's not fudging the scores.
So all the whinging in the comments section of the past couple of articles about Nintendo "doing this on purpose because they're greedy" or "not programming their system to USB-C Standards" is seeming like BS now huh?
I liked Super Bomberman, and if you turn off the terrible voice acting this is basically just Super Bomberman. I'm not bummed it's going cross platform, it served it's purpose. It'd have been cool to get a Nintendo exclusive character for the Switch, but I mean the game is still damn good on it's own.
I don't understand all the people complaining about Kirby being easy. Kirby has always been easy. It's a great game if are a kid, have kids, or just want something that is fun and simple to chill out with. NOT EVERYTHING IS MADE FOR YOU
@retro_player_22 Sonic at this point is a main roster character, in my opinion. Cloud was super fun to play, so I'd be sad to see him go, but I mean characters like Solid Snake didn't stick around after Brawl, so it would make the most sense for Cloud and Pac-Man to hit the bricks.
@NintyNate Good, only cheap players play Capt. Falcon In all seriousness, in the n64 version I had this neighbor who would just spam his command grab. MADE ME SO MAD

Re: Sakurai Warns Smash Bros. Fans That New Character Reveals Will Slow Down From Now On
Holding out hope for Geno, but I don't care about any more character reveals at this point. All I want now is a Story Mode!
Re: Hamster Adding Even More Games To The Arcade Archives On Switch
Thought we were getting Bubble Bobble and now I'm sad. Cool though!
