Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the week ending 22nd August, revealing that Ring Fit Adventure has returned to the number one spot.
Nintendo's fitness RPG managed to narrowly outsell Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Saikyo Battle Royale!! this week, which has fallen from the first-place debut it achieved last week. The majority of the top ten is made of up Switch games, but the newly released Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has put a dent in proceedings not once, but twice, with both its PS5 and PS4 versions reaching fifth and seventh respectively.
Ghost of Tsushima's positioning incidentally puts an end to Switch's incredible recent chart domination, in which the system had managed to claim all top 30 chart positions in Japan for two consecutive weeks.
Here are the top ten (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
- [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo, 10/18/19) – 17,656 (2,772,950)
- [NSW] Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Saikyo Battle Royale!! (Konami, 08/12/21) – 16,742 (113,039)
- [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 04/28/17) – 15,756 (3,995,095)
- [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft, 06/21/18) – 15,385 (2,139,193)
- [PS5] Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut (SIE, 08/20/21) – 13,745 (New)
- [NSW] Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! (Konami, 11/19/20) – 13,581 (2,336,531)
- [PS4] Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut (SIE, 08/20/21) – 10,224 (New)
- [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo, 12/07/18) – 8,870 (4,389,399)
- [NSW] Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (Nintendo, 02/12/21) – 8,212 (857,492)
- [NSW] Super Mario Party (Nintendo, 10/05/18) – 6,810 (1,970,823)
Switch is still leading the way in the hardware charts, with the original model performing strongly as ever and the Lite just managing to outperform the PS5. Here are this week's figures, followed by lifetime sales in brackets:
- Switch – 62,022 (16,907,165)
- Switch Lite – 10,505 (4,020,185)
- PlayStation 5 – 10,083 (813,989)

I need to finish Ring Fit but I lost my leg strap
@IceClimbersMain
I think you can call Nintendo and order a replacement.
Have xbox got fresh stock? Their hardware sales have really improved.
Switch is a beast! Well done Sony. And Go XBox! Go!
@chapu2006 they’ve made some moves into Japan before the Series systems released. Looks promising for them this time… well, hopefully
Nintendo won't be dominating all thirty software best seller spots for a third week in a row? No. NOOOOOO!
Seriously though, those GoT sales are incredibly low.
Is there a saying for Sony equal to Nintendoomed? Because they seem to leave their country of origin up for grabs to Nintendo.
Edit: maybe Sales Solowny. SoNOny. Buyers who say NIE.
@Magician The absolute tragedy 😭 Nintendo is nintenDOOMED now, going third party next week 😂
Also, is this the best week of the Xbox Series in Japan so far ?
@Tom-Smo Yeah. Seems as though Game Pass is gaining a bit of momentum in Japan. A couple more months like that and the Xbox Series will surpass the lifetime Xbox One sales in Japan in less than a year (barely over 100k Xbones sold in six years).
@Friendly id imagine they are only as low as they appear as the majority would have purchased the digital upgraded from the origional to the directors cut as opposed to going out and buying the physical directors cut edition.
@Friendly The GoT sales are likely so low because some people (like myself) didn't want to rebuy the game just to play a bit of DLC. Though this does prove that if PlayStation actually releases a game people will buy it.
Odd that a port of a last gen game is the only one made it to the chart for PlayStation. If Sony couldn't make an impact in 2022 then they had failed Japan.
4 million physical for MK8D by next chart. Super Mario Party not far off 2 million, 3D World will hit 1 million before too long… Nintendo’s big hitters are unbelievable, and they have so many evergreen titles, truly impressive.
Wow at those X-Box sales. Such is the Power of GamePass!
Nice to see PlayStation 4 having one last hurrah. It had a good run.
It has to be consistent they make it sounds like Ghost is the only game in town. That's the worst part of these NL posting they make it sounds like Ghost is the only think to watch for. Switch encompasses alot of different age/gender games but as anything they get paid to make it sound like Ghost is the game in town.
Sounds more like GoT I'd a fart rather than "ending" Nintendo's dominance. Also, curious to see that with the release of this "new" game, the PS5 managed to sell LESS than on the previous two weeks. Sony blows.
@Pokester99 I don’t see anybody here knocking it.
Ghost of Tsushima is an amazing game, glad it is doing well.
@Pokester99 Ha Ghost of Tsushima is made by Sucker Punch, a Sony own studio that made the N64 game Rocket: Robot on Wheels. It won't be coming to Switch or any system other than PlayStation and PC.
Did Xbox throw some Japan-exclusives in gamepass? Maybe they should release blue dragon 2!
@Magician
Wow. I knew Xbox One sold poorly in Japan but I didn't know it was that bad.
