If you happen to be located in the North America and were unable to get hold of the wireless Nintendo 64 controller for Switch Online, you'll probably have to wait a while for a restock.
An update on the official Nintendo Store page for this region has changed a notice about more controllers being made available in "late October" to the following message:
"More controllers will be available in 2022."
Yep, if you've missed out on one, it seems you'll just have to wait until next year. When these controllers are made available again, you'll be able to purchase them for $49.99 each. There's also a limit of four controllers per Nintendo account.

Were you able to secure one (or more) of these wireless N64 controllers the first time around? What do you think of them so far? Leave a comment down below.

Got mine on the first drop thankfully.
For all those people not getting switch online expansion packs....
Out of stock! But I finally just grew my third hand!
Aw, I wanted to destroy my hand in Mario Party minigames.
"We're sold out of the n64 controllers.... would you like a sega controller instead?"
Pretty much jumped onto this the moment I saw they were available as I figured this would happen.
I'll wait for the first discount for the Mega Drive controller....
I want to get one but missing ZR, ZL makes it hard to get it.
Only got one, but wanna get more once they come back. Couldn't really justify it for just Star Fox (don't see myself touching the other multiplayer games since the Switch has better versions of most of them) but as more games come, having extras will be nice.
I managed to grab one around the same time I snagged the Metroid Dread Collectors Edition, and the amiibo 2-pack.
I almost got a 2nd controller, but I had also just upgraded my Nintendo Online subscription. Between all that, the Metroid stuff, and the Zelda Game & Watch, the Big N has bled me dry this last month.
I missed out.
It helped I wasn't even trying to get one.
They really should have made more than 10.😜
Oh well, I'm off to pay my N64 with my red, blue, green, yellow and black N64 controllers.
Hmm. I snagged one from the second batch just because I couldn't help myself. Have yet to pay for the expansion, and I'm not sure if I will, for the time being.
@SwitchForce It has ZL and ZR. ZL is just the Z button and there’s a ZR on top. It’s X and Y missing that’s the problem.
Thanks, Nintendo...
Just curious, do you need to be a subscriber of the expansion pack in order to buy the N64 controller?
Works for me. Waited until stock stabilized for the NES and SNES controllers too.
They should make the N64 controllers different colors like the original controller choices.
The real question for me is… how the hell do you get one of these if you live in Mexico?
The limit should have been two per account during the initial run.
And only 3022 until Loftwing amiibo are restocked.........
@LinktotheFuture Nope. I’ve got one and haven’t bought the expansion.
I hate scalpers...
Does that apply for UK as well??
Got one for me and one for another member of my family subscription. Was lucky enough to easily place an order on the 26th.
@Markiemania95 Cool, thanks!
I want one but waiting is fine, I am only going to use it with PC anyways and there are some issues with compatability currently which time will fix.
@fafonio Get a friend in the US to mail it to you. I live in Singapore and haven't found a better way.
@Silly_G You can make one if you have a modern phone if you only care about the functionality.
UK aswell? They didn't even notify me that they went on sale and I only saw the "Out of stock" listing....
They haven't even put the Mega Drive controller on sale yet. Absolute shambles on that front.
Scalpers have put them on sale massively here. Didn't manage to get one since it was sold out in seconds.
What about us Aussies... any news on when it will arrive for us?
This controller is probably the best Switch accessory I have. I received it earlier last week & was finally able to get Captain Falcon into Elite Smash using it. The muscle memory from when I was a kid came rushing back. I've been trying to get Captain Falcon to Elite smash for nearly 3 years, taking him up every couple of months with my pro controller and giving up. I can happily say I took him from 4.5 million GSP to 9.6 million in less than 7 days. Super happy with this controller purchase, perfect for SSBU and even a few shmups
@Jokerwolf : I use and collect them, otherwise I would have grabbed one of those amiibo simulating devices.
I hope they get plenty of stock for the Summer when Goldeneye gets added to NSO! (Wishful thinking)
Hoping the UK get a re-stock soon, they are on eBay for £60 - £200 its stupid.
Nintendo create more to stop the scalpers damn it, one guy has 5 for sale, I thought there was a limit....sigh
Meanwhile scalpers are selling them for £80 a pop (or higher) on eBay.
You can probably just buy a USB N64 controller off Amazon for $15 and use that
Going for £100+ on ebay. What a disgrace.
Screw 'em. It's an overpriced controller to be paired with a greedy cruddy service, and they couldn't even get a decent amount stocked. I'm not buying one regardless of when it becomes available again.
Didn't get one because I was working when they became available and were sold out before my shift ended. I'm really ticked at Nintendo for this. They should have limited it to 1 per household until demand went down by checking shipping addresses. Instead people bought lots of them using their accounts and others in their household accounts and are selling them on ebay for more than twice what they are worth. I absolutely refuse to pay a scalper for being an a hole. Nor am I going to upgrade my Nintendo online subscription until I can get one. I did get one sega controller but it can sit there gathering dust for now. The sega games alone do not justify the cost of the service and playing N64 games on any controller that is not a N64 controller just does not feel right. As for usb N64 controllers, they are third party, usually crap quality, and don't button map correctly as they are usually recognized as a pro controller. So suck it Nintendo.
Which I'll wait like I did for the nes and snes controllers screw scalpers
They're really trying to give us that retro feel by making the N64 controller impossible to find just like back in the day when it launched.
Ha ha ha I was checking the website every day this week in the hope there would be a quick restock but now... now I will go off and cry
So happy I got one. Right place right time I guess. Well worth the money tho.
@Snaplocket NSO button mapping options SUCK MORE!!!!!
@thiz What mode allows for use of the c-buttons? I have this controller as well!
@Snaplocket as someone who started playing games with the N64, I see this as a must buy hahaha. It's a really comfortable controller.
@Silly_G I still have my Wolf Link in the package.
@Silly_G I remember the days of physical gaming when companies released physical products they planned to keep them in stock as supply demanded and not "whenever we feel like making more".
Those were good times, weren't they?
@Snaplocket People that want to play N64 games I would imagine.
That controller is just so uniquely designed I don't think anything else will properly replace it. (as I quite found out when I tried to play Sin & Punishment on the Wii VC)
No Sega Megadrive controllers for the U.K yet
@KingMike : Ah, yes, and the days when games were supplied on cartridge/disc, typically Version 1.0. No patches. No DLC. No greedy publishers opting for cheaper cartridges/discs. There were exceptions to the rule, of course, but nowadays, an honest-to-goodness complete release at launch is the extreme exception. This is not progress.
And yet the consumer, who is put at a disadvantage by these anti-consumer practices, continue to make excuses for them.
Back to your point though, it completely and utterly confounds me that Nintendo never restocked the Fire Emblem Fates limited edition, which was the only way to get all three campaigns on cartridge. I was very, very, very lucky, but I just as easily could have found myself paying through the nose via eBay. Similarly, I don't believe they ever restocked the gold/silver Mario amiibo either, which was especially irritating, because they had special functionality in certain games.
Restock for 10 minutes, you mean, right?
I got one on the first restock, it comes in today. They should have limited them to one per account initially. That would have gone a long way to slowing down scalpers.
I was at work when these dropped and they were gone within a few hours. Same old thing every single time. Limit of 4 per customer was stupid- yes you might want 4 to play 4 player but in reality a lot fairer if more people can get them rather than a few people with 4. Plus 4 per person means at least 3 of them are going on ebay for scalping. Nintendo never learn.
@KingMike The Hori mini is better than it in every single way. You can buy the |retrobit version for less than these costs.
Just buy the retrobit or retro Fighters controllers. They are superior in every way.
what a dumb company
overpricing digital stuff that people don't really want (for that price)
underproducing physical stuff that people really want
talk about being unable to read the room
@thiz Ahh, but for NSO online, there's no way, right?
@Silly_G I’ve actually been seeing the Loftwing Amiibo in stock quite a few places. Just for kicks I just checked GameStop’s website and it’s available there now if you’re in the US.
Good luck 👍
I didn't feel like following this closely and I figured they would sell out fast. Nitnendo was terrible about making the SNES controllers available, so this is nothing new. Even the NES controllers were always sold out at first.
In other news, Nintendo won't get my money for Switch Expansion Online until N64 controllers are back in stock.
@nessisonett too much change for usage. They could do it it's did they want to do it.
@SwitchForce If they put every button on it then it wouldn’t be an N64 controller.
I'm tired of Nintendo not having items for me to purchase. 🥺🥺🥺
@thiz I saw "All Star" mode and figured you were referring to Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
@nessisonett You have the NES, SNES that works on the Switch and no one complaining. It doesn't have to be a N64 only it can be combo for both usage if they really wanted people to buy it.
@SwitchForce But…. the NES controller also doesn’t have X and Y? The N64 controller does work on Switch the exact same way that the NES controller does. I have no idea what you’re on about.
Don't care I can wait. Besides a third party will end up making one soon and it will be cheaper.
@Sourcecode Plus Hyperkin and Mayflash make adapters to use them on PC and Switch.
I got it and the genesis controller
Wanted 2 since I have 2 nes and 2 snes controllers so intend to keep up and get 2 N64 and 2 Genesis. I'll buy genesis when I can get N64 at same time. Saves my wallet I guess for now if I have to wait for 2022. I'm not getting the Switch Online expansion tier either since its a rip off, so no biggie as this is more just for collection sake.
Was hoping to grab one of these before my Nintendo Online account expired. Oh well.
@UnseatingKDawg You can only buy this if you're an NSO subscriber, I don't think this one's scalpers, just a short supply. I grabbed one the first day with no issue, but I'm also in the NSO=yes group.
Kind of a dum move on Nintendo's part, if I'm gonna be honest.
Was hoping to maybe acquire one when the rush for it wasn't so chaotic, but I guess I was wrong in waiting as long as I did. //Shrug
@XBontendo: Oh I'm subscribed, and I was checking daily multiple times per day since launch. The numbers I've seen on Ebay definitely point to scalpers, especially since you don't need to subscribe to the expansion pack to get the controller. Which is dumb since they're predominantly designed for the games you can only get in the expansion pack. So I'm just going to have to wait until 2022 to get one.
@UnseatingKDawg Oh, I thought you did need to subscribe? You do for the NES & SNES controllers at least.
@XBontendo Yeah, you need to subscribe to the $20 base at least to access the controllers. What I was getting at was you should've had to get the $30 expansion to get access to the N64 controllers. Not the best choice for everyone, but at least it would deter scalpers a bit. Because let's face it, you get a $35 family plan for 8 accounts, have 8 set up on a Switch and buy 4 per account, then boom 40 of them to resell. I might be coming off with some sour grapes over not getting one, but I definitely see that scenario as a possibility.
