@Paulo you do know Arm and X86-64 aren’t the same architecture, right? The Switch 2 hardware is far more advanced than the old Jaguar AMD X86 based APU in the PS4. It might not have the muscle at the moment, but DLSS is something PS4 did not have at all and the Switch 2 does.
Not sure what the new Acclaim has from the defunct one, but I hope it’ll be fun and good. Honestly, the more developers and publishers out there, the better for the industry and gamers.
I hope it’ll work out better than Interplay’s revival 🤮
@AStupidID not sure if Nintendo has complete control of those titles. Nintendo didn’t develop or publish those games, instead they were paid for the use of the IP. Not sure who owns those two games now.
@Vyacheslav333 Nintendo has published and developed M games since that time. Bayonetta is their big M-rated series, well the second and third installments. SEGA still owns the name, but Nintendo basically paid for the development of the other three titles that bear the same. It's beyond exclusivity, Nintendo outright owns those three Bayonetta titles as they financed those projects, plus the last prequel title.
Devil's Third was another one of their published titles on the Wii U, which did have development at Nintendo SPD with Valhalla Game Studios.
@The_Nintend_Pedant explain? The original Switch never got Madden or a new mainline Street Fighter game. Cyberpunk 2077 is considered one of the greatest games of all time, couldn’t work on the original Switch either (wasn’t even playable on the PS4 and Xbox One). I feel it’s just getting started with third party games since it has been out for two months.
“As part of the partnership, Nintendo has pledged to provide "a large quantity" of Nintendo Switch Online memberships and game download codes at no code. How nice!”
If anyone wanted to know what Nintendo’s "multi-platform" strategy looks like, it’ll include iOS/Android, plus QoL devices that Iwata had started around a decade and a half ago.
Since people are thinking Nintendo will bring any of its top franchises to PC or PlayStation after Sony’s announcement, that’s not in their plans and they plan on diversifying their offerings in this direction. It will ultimately lead to customers to buying their hardware. Bringing PS games to PC might help with software sales for Sony, but the goal is to get you to buy a PS5 to get the best experience possible.
@Sindayl none of them have been unfriendly to me. Sony screwed the pooch with my information in their data leak 14-15 years ago. If I had to say one who passes the buck the most, it’s Microsoft. If you call them for PC issues, they’ll be quick to find outs and send you to the hardware manufacturer; then the manufacturer sends you back to them. I dread ever having to call them.
Apple, Nintendo, JBL, Hayward (pool equipment) and Valve have taken care of me when I needed to exercise my issues. Even outside of warranty. So, I’m not sure what you mean by unfriendly to consumers? Hell Nintendo reset a GBA cartridge I bought used in 2008 and the game had been out of manufacturing for over 5-6 years at that point. They paid for everything and returned it better than I sent it. If you’re referencing price, then I guess you should loathe and detest micro transaction games such as Fortnite, DOTA 2, Madden and Counter Strike… Valve screwed over Mac gamers with the update to CS2, sure they were a super minority, but people poured $100s into it… but hey, again he let’s you “choose your hardware.”
@Sindayl any company will change up the strategy in their in financial straits. Apple did it in the late 1990s until they switched to Intel. Much like Apple did after the iPhone launch, they had to change their company as it grew. Nintendo won't be any different. They will please their customers enough, the fans will never think they care about them and shareholders make money.
Also, as a consumer, Nintendo has been extremely fair with me. They just replaced my two sets of launch joy cons at no charge. My guess is dust caused drift since they were sitting around unused.
Buy hey, I get it, your lord and master Gabe isn't bad for a guy with five super yachts and is a responsible monopolist.
@Dr_Corndog the only action they took was saying, “Hey, could you officially ask us for permission on each title you want to use? We need to cover ourselves from any potential issues.” Don’t see what’s wrong with Nintendo needing to protecting themselves.
Worst case scenario, there’s something awful that comes out of the event and Nintendo is left facing it. I support this organization, but I don’t blame Nintendo for asking them to seek official permission as it could face major scrutiny.
This double standard in gaming, it’s awful for Nintendo to question, but if Valve did the same thing you’d all magically say how bad the organizers were for risking Gabe’s super yacht collection.
@Dr_Corndog or the organizers should’ve checked first? Nintendo isn’t able to track every single event going on in the world.
@ogbert yeah, NL likes to lead with something sexy to get the rage going first. Nintendo said you need permission first, plus they’re still talking with the event organizers.
@axecon no, Nintendo did similar stuff during the Wii U/3DS era, that’s when the Creator program came out. Iwata led the charge on it too
@AussieMcBucket it isn’t going to make a difference if those games aren’t on the Switch or not. For Call of Duty and Battlefield, it would help their numbers if they brought those games to the Switch. The choice rests with Microsoft and EA. Nintendo doesn’t need those games for the Switch since the audience clearly didn’t care if they were any way. So, I disagree with your perspective. Plus, the fun isn’t going to wear out on the Switch any time soon. Over 150 million users still bought a lot of software on the system. Activision and EA missed out on it.
@Dr_Corndog your view lines up with mine. All the MKW bundles drip drop coming into my area, they go as soon as they’re here too. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bundle dominated the other SKU without it. Best Buy, Walmart and GameStop are the top targets in my area form it. We have a Target, but I rarely go in there.
We’ll probably see other bundles in that price point too, I guess there’s a Pokemon one at $499 with the game being $69.99.
@AussieMcBucket the regular Switch sold fine without games like Battlefield and Call of Duty… especially while the device lifetime sales is getting ready to eclipse the DS and will catch the PS2 (which both systems predate the online fad of those games).
Starting to see a trend here. Is it the studios who are working on the titles making the decision instead of the publisher? One SEGA published title will be fully on the card in the new Sonic Racing game, but (so far) the rest are GKC.
@UltimateOtaku91 while I'm hoping as well, but some of those developers who said the Switch 2 could outsell the original might not be wrong. If Nintendo has managed to convince us consumers that upgrading your Switch is as important as your phone, then every 4-6 years is the best time to release an updated model. For the ones who don't, or buy the older model, you continue to support 1-2 years afterwards.
@basednrd sadly it wouldn’t sting quite enough if Nintendo took the Apple position. They did it in the past with Hiroshi Yamauchi, it took decades to repair broken relationships thanks to him. Furukawa doesn’t want to rock the boat, at least he seems to be upholding Iwata’s redemption plans. He doesn’t want to be Yamauchi he was happy to drive partners away, plus he doesn’t want to be Iwata who was too reluctant to see the market swiftly change during the latter Wii/DS years.
Nintendo is in a very similar position that Valve is in. Yes, you have the user base, but you don’t control how partners come to market. Apple and Google are starting to lose now too.
@johnedwin probably saved for the next big Nintendo Direct with the Metroid Prime 4 announcement. Probably trying to give Square Enix the best runway possible for FFVII.
These Partner showcases always have a low bar for me. It feels like Nintendo has to share this information as part of their deals with partners. Or the next has too much in it, so they need to announce titles in some kind of Direct.
@Suketoudara with the Switch and Switch 2 dominating in Japan over the PS5, I’m not surprised. Regardless of the sales of the games, not having your game on the Switch is guaranteed to sting a little bit over there
@YunoboCo 25 minutes of things you don’t care about? I think that’s what you meant since it’s pretty impossible to speak for 150 million people; especially when 90% of the Switch audience chooses not participate in online discourse
The only Sony game, outside of MLB The Show, that could come to Switch is Helldivers (and that is a stretch, but it could compete against Fortnite and Call of Duty). Anything else, isn’t going to happen.
I don’t count Death Stranding as it looks to be timed exclusivity as the PC/Xbox versions are published by 505 Games.
@SwagaliciousJohnson there’s still rumors stating the other two are pretty much ready to go. For whatever reason, Nintendo is sitting on them at the moment. I wouldn’t put it past them to shadow drop Metroid Prime 2 Remastered soon. Metroid Prime 3 will likely happen, but I don’t believe they’d shadow drop both…?
Maybe having the game on a 64GB card would help in the short term as the Switch 2 starts growing. Probably too late to change course on the GKC this game will be using
@kingbk could not have said it better myself. Finally a voice for the people who actually play their Switch and care less about these kinds of articles.
I’m guessing Nintendo didn’t want to offer this type of product, but 3rd parties either didn’t want to pay for the 64GB (or it’s too large or small for their needs). I’m hoping the sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and Fantasy Life get highlighted in the press to get some of these bigger publishers to reconsider putting their games on the card. Or the single player experience at least. For any game made on the Switch that will have a physical release, that should be a pretty easy decision for these type of collectors at this time.
I really hope there is a smaller size Nintendo can use, but I’m thinking it’d be an option if it was there. If a 16GB card costs the same, or more than the 64 GB, or it isn’t doable with the newer tech on the card, I hope we’ll find out. The Game-Key Card feels like a stopgap solution for physical.
On the positive side, Nintendo said they’re not planning on using it at all for their physical releases.
@Max_the_German there’s rumors that the lower storage option costs more or isn’t available. They had two different sizes to start the Switch, plus a third size rolled out relatively fast. There’s something holding up a smaller option, I don’t think it’s Nintendo. Even they’re using the 64GB card for their Switch 2 games, Mario Kart World doesn’t even take up 50% of its capacity
It’s never straightforward when dealing with music industry. Outside of the labels, you also have groups that manage the songwriting side of the business. It’s a multilayered business and I’d invite anyone to read the bible of the industry: “All You Need to Know About the Music Business.” Not sure what volume they’re on now, but it’s large and… insane
@chickje Nintendo has to go to their manufacturer to make these game cards, so it’s going to be a volume based purchasing for the price. For higher storage, I don’t think the price will be too bad, but the smaller sizes might be expensive since 8, 16 and 32 GB aren’t really sizes you can easily find in USB thumb drives or MicroSD cards cheaply since everyone is pushing those bigger sizes. Even if Nintendo had over 200 million active users and about 100 million buy physical game cards, add the mix of publishers and developers with space needs/wants for sizes. Each size would be its own SKU, so if the hypothetical 100 million were spread out over 5, but volume isn’t equal, then your pricing will change.
@chickje it’s the only size available for the Switch 2 right now. From what I’m understanding, it might be the lowest option available for now. The question for the maximum size is 128 or 256GB, whenever they decide to ask Macronix to make it. Smaller sizes lower than 64GB might too expensive anyone to consider.
