I have secured the MKW bundle through Walmart. Unfortunately, I could only get the regular one at Best Buy. I will be canceling one of them. Walmart was flawless after 1:00am EDT
@mlt Lexar has been around for a very long time. I knew them for their printers originally, but they have a wider offering than that now. I’d say they’re reputable. Amazon is sold out of the Lexar 512 GB and 1TB at the moment, but Samsung is making the official Nintendo cards which will be available at launch (256GB is the only one I can find).
@Danrenfroe2016 you can disagree, but the numbers don’t lie. Most Switch owners play in this space, doesn’t matter if I like it or not. Most people who I know own a Switch might be console gamers, but they haven’t owned a PC in over a decade and rather use phones and tablets over them. It’s likely they won’t pick a handheld PC of any kind due to the time investment in learning the device, whereas Android and iOS make it easier versus Windows, macOS and the many flavors of Linux. I don’t care how much they claim “console like interface,” you still have to play with the settings on the game and device. Whereas the Switch, plus mobile devices, are easier experiences for the non-tech and gamer variety. Which casual gamers outnumber hardcore ones.
@FreasurePlanten NL doesn’t have much of bias toward Nintendo anymore. They still perpetuate the rumor that the Steam Deck is a platform (which it isn’t) worth looking at for the non-PC crowd. They refused to cover big AAA games coming to iOS, even though the Switch audience would likely see their phones and tablets as gaming options over a handheld PC.
I think they want to become a site devoted to PC handhelds, but they don’t want to switch since they’d lose 90% of their readers.
@rjejr Marathon (2025) is coming to the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series systems. I know Sony owns Bungie, but I guess they want the studio to maximize its profit on this title. It’s a rumor and hasn’t been confirmed.
Why would tariffs play into software development? That’s not what I was referring to at all.
Nintendo only likes the politics of money, what it will cost them and profit to be made. China’s political climate concerns them very little. Especially when China, Japan and South Korea have buried the past recently amongst their countries with a new trade arrangements in response to the US tariffs. Also, Activision Blizzard is an American publisher, which is owned by Microsoft now.
Diablo 4 not coming to the original Switch was likely a technical issue on different fronts: power and online. That’s what I was referencing. Nintendo only cares about social politics if there is an overwhelming worldwide agreement. Russia invading Ukraine was enough to get them to close their marketing arm in that country in response.
I don’t care what 3 million users who own the Steam Deck think of the Switch 2. That’s like asking someone to think how their laptop compares to a tablet.
@rjejr wouldn’t say politics as it might be a limitation with some APIs or services for developers/publishers when it comes to certain live services games. Diablo IV I think will make its way to the Switch 2, but I doubt Destiny 2 will come over; rumor is Marathon (2025) is coming though
@nuke13 I haven't bought an Amiibo since 2018 or 2019. Not that I think they're pricey, I just don't believe I need them at all. I feel they're more targetted to those collectors who may want a bit more out of their figure.
None of these Amiibo figures interested me anyway. I don't have a perceived vision of what these should cost. These don't have a high value to myself personally, but to people who love them they might view this increase as due to the tariffs and other outside factors.
Also, I believe these sell enough for Nintendo to continue to make them, but not at a volume enough to keep the price of entry low.
Judging from some of the follow up comments, it looks like it's exclusive to these newer Amiibos and not the existing line up as @Friendly has mentioned.
@Varkster yes, their pollution has made it far worse to filter out the noise. As an Apple fan, there are so many people who will bootlick MaxTech and Luke Miani for their purchases (or so they claim). From my view, they're super cringe artists and they make a lot of profit off of people who choose not to do research themselves.
Since you're in the space... Clearly there's a market to sell people sawdust in capsule form there too. Have you considered vitamin supplements for your gaming audience?
I know Amiibos aren’t mass manufactured compared to other Nintendo branded accessories. Guess I’m not surprised these went up in price. They’re likely manufactured in China too
@NinChocolate I’m thinking content updates similar to Splatoon might be rolled out. Something Nintendo will likely announce in a Direct post release. I don’t think paid DLC will likely happen until MKW crosses MK8D territory
@Anti-Matter we knew you weren’t going to buy it anyway, I’m not surprised by your response. Since you like to announce your decisions, I’m going to say mine.
I’m still going to buy it on day one. My PS5 got replaced by a PC.
@Dev-N I mean, probably half of the crowd who participates in conversations on this hobby. I'd say over 80-90% of the Switch audience just didn't talk with people like us.
I don't expect it to be a top seller, but it will sell better than 1,2 Switch.
@TrogdorTheBurninator save yourself some money and buy it used, then get the $10 upgrade and think about the DLC. I have it, but I don’t really remember using it or playing it(?)
I’d recommend to anyone that wants to buy Zelda BotW and TotK for the new Switch, just get your copies now and just pay for the $10 upgrade fee for upgrade pack. If you have NSO Online plus Expansion, the packs are included with the membership at no additional charge (plus all the other services).
@Stwert plus, we haven’t heard the whole story yet. I think the MKW Direct is going to say Nintendo will be providing free content updates for next 2-3 years for the game rather than DLC. MK8D was never supposed to have additional tracks, but when it’s your top game you tend to review what needs to be the next generation. From the videos I’ve watched, MKW will definitely be worth its price tag.
Also, Zelda TotK never got any additional DLC and it was the only $69.99 game on the Switch.
@Duncanballs just waiting for them to announce the new preorder window in the US. I think the pending tariffs had them scrambling inventory around logistically to fit the demand. With the 90 day pause, I guess we could be hearing any day now.
While I could really care less about what these two have to say anymore. If they disliked working for NOA so much, they sure are still profiting off of it. They've become the Nintendo-cringe of YouTube.
With that out of the way, I don't think it would be a "no-no," but not very likely we'll get DLC for MKW. Zelda Tear of the Kingdom didn't get any DLC for its price tag, they said it was the finished game. Now, I don't think MKW is fully finished, but I would think we're going to be waiting A LONG time for any kind of paid DLC to this game.
Then again, Microsoft is able to do so many packs for the Forza games. To get the full version of Horizon 5, you had to pay $99.99 for the premium edition.
@the_beaver Sony is doing the same thing with the PS4 to PS5 titles. Sometimes not offering an option either and making you pay full price again.
I find humorous that Nintendo has to giveaway their company to make people happy, but everyone gets finger pointed at if you don’t buy two copies of Spider-Man on PlayStation and/or PC.
If you have NSO+Expansion, then it’s part of your service at launch and you don’t need to pay for it separately.
@Jeronan more than likely an OLED model will be out in a few years if the tech is reasonably priced. I think Nintendo isn’t big on having high priced devices in their family of systems.
@mario-64 that and they didn’t have HDR as Kawamoto mentioned. A smaller panel like that would’ve added a bit to the cost. Hopefully in the next few years, those OLED panels will come down in cost.
The masses aren’t going to care what people like us say at the prices. Patcher might be right for a change. The price hike hasn’t hurt Sony, so if Nintendo’s messaging to the wider audience is clear the Switch 2 and its family of systems will be hot sellers. Nintendo is being smart by not calling it a console. If they’re able to tap the smartphone buying habit, they’ll have people upgrading every 4-8 years.
People who likely bought a launch (and V2) Switch will likely jump to it. When the Lite gets upgraded in a couple years, those users will jump and an OLED variant too.
@Axecon it’s priced at $69.99 for release day. Not every Switch game is going to be $79.99. DK Bonanza is going to be $69.99.
The Switch 2 Edition games for $79.99 likely include the original game plus the Upgrade Pack contents. I’m guessing this branding means cross-gen titles.
@Tyranexx the Lite will likely get upgraded to the Switch 2 in a couple of years, plus I think an OLED model will be a revision in the future. I’m still thinking Nintendo will offer a Shield TV device this time around too.
@rushiosan Shadow Warrior out of the box drained my old Steam Deck in an hour. My Legion Go fared slightly better. Outer Worlds on the Deck was under an hour.
Indie titles ran much longer.
However, I’m happy I got rid of it. It was too much work playing the balancing game for every game in my library. My PC library is better off being played on my Ryzen 7 5800X with 4070 than any handheld PC.
@StewdaMegaManNerd Welcome Center looks like it would be fun techno-babble for a nerd like me. Especially the tech demos Nintendo would likely show off, but never release to the public previously. However, I’m not sure I’m going to buy it either personally as I might replay certain old games from my library first along with MKW.
Whereas 1,2 Switch is a party game of tech demos to show off the Joycons.
Forgot to mention, I completely agree with your take on the OG Switch release against the PS4/XB1 on the previous post.
@IronMan30 thankfully the expansion pass will allow me to upgrade those two Zelda games, but I might do it for Tears since I never played it as much as Breath.
I completely agree with you on feeling good. However, since Nintendo revealed the Switch games run on an emulation layer (I guess Nintendo’s version Rosetta), it will be interesting to see how they will perform on the new hardware. I think we’ll all get an upgrade in performance for our current games, we just won’t reap the benefits of complete integration with the new hardware.
@IOI emulation layers allow for the software to play natively on hardware it wasn’t made for. I think it’s a better choice than including some piece of hardware to play Switch games on the device.
Essentially, Nintendo developed their own emulation layer for the Switch similar to how Apple made Rosetta for its hardware transitions on the Mac.
Or similar to the Xbox with emulating OG and 360 games.
This might be a better option since the software would be flexible rather than booting into a separate environment like the previous Nintendo systems used to do (Wii U booted into the Wii for its games).
@IronMan30 feels like it could be a combination of things that got Nintendo to this price.
Unless there’s a reason they’re charging $80 for additional content rather than a DLC price later. It’s crazy that people will happily pay $50 for a Call of Duty Battle Pass, or some of these other ridiculous fees from Overwatch, Fortnite and other pay to play services that could easily dwarf MKW price tag. I’ll wait until the Direct to discern the value of the game. It’s unusual if MKW is $80, but not DK Bonanza?
There’s an easy way around “Switch 2 Editions,” just buy the original Switch version if you can find it and then buy the Upgrade Pack if you want it. I won’t be upgrading all of my Switch games, but Kirby is the top candidate in my library for it. I mean, Nintendo is bringing these old Switch titles up to the Switch 2 feature set and if you own it it’s an extra $10-15 if you want it. Otherwise, I’m sure they’re going to have a performance patch that will allow the original Switch game to be upconverted in that form.
@Wadeimous wow. One would think Nintendo would let each user name in a family membership be able to reserve a spot for one. Damn scalpers, they made life so difficult if you want something you like.
I’ve heard other retailers made have some hard restrictions in place. GameStop is rumored to be one per user name; or something like that. Best Buy is doing a 12:01am opening on June 5th for the device (which seems unheard of today).
@Wadeimous were they able to sign into their individual accounts to do it? I think it's a per user restriction. I was able to put in for one. Just in case Best Buy flubs it up.
@Clammy okay... good for you if you don't want to buy it. I don't think Nintendo is "penny pinching" on providing optional upgrades to existing games. Personally, I'm not the biggest Zelda fan, so I'll likely not get either of them. Tears of the Kingdom had the coolest upgrades over Breathe of the Wild, especially sharing creations with friends will seem to go over well with the consumers they're targeting.
However, from what I'm reading, it seems NSO+Expansion Pass members will get these upgrades as part of their memberships; specifically for Zelda. The rumored prices are $10-15 per pack. This matches to what Sony was doing with their titles. 3rd parties will likely just provide free optimized patches to up convert Switch games to take advantage of the Switch 2.
For me, Mario Kart World will be a game I want to play on day one on it. I've been buying Mario Kart since I got the DS Lite in 2006. I'll probably get the Kirby upgrade pack since Forgotten Lands was very fun to play.
I don't know what the programming side of things looks like, but I trust Nintendo's quality level over Sony or other publishers. It's not my place to put a price on it since the workers who do it need to be paid. It still takes hours/days of testing these games when you make alterations in the code. I've played in Python and Java at the basic level, I can imagine what it would be like working with a huge app. It has to be a lot of work, so if $10-15 bucks is what they choose to charge for it is Nintendo's decision.
@Clammy from what I’m understanding, it’s more than just a couple lines of code. We’re taking asset upgrades, features added/integrated into the games that aren’t in the original and other changes. Again, they’re optional and you don’t need them to play the game in its original form. Nintendo will likely provide a performance patch or some update to the original that will help them run on the new unit, but it isn’t going to change the game.
@Clammy you can still play the original Switch game on the Switch 2. You just have to pay extra for the updated visuals, feature upgrades and any other changes they made to the original to take advantage of those features on the Switch 2. Otherwise, you original purchase will play like it was on the original Switch hardware.
For example, if you want to use the Nintendo Switch app on your phone with Zelda BoTW as a second screen, you’ll need the upgrade pack. If you want to keep playing your game as is, you won’t need to pay for anything. Likely Nintendo will provide a free patch for the game to use the new screen resolution and any other improvements to have the original Switch game to function as it’s intended to play.

Re: Switch 2 "Code-In-A-Box" Physical Game Listing Spotted Online
Just shows how cheap EA is when it comes to physical. I’m not hopeful that Madden will be on a cartridge now.
EDIT: Confirmed Game Key card. Now I might get it.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2
@Wadeimous wow. One would think Nintendo would let each user name in a family membership be able to reserve a spot for one. Damn scalpers, they made life so difficult if you want something you like.
I’ve heard other retailers made have some hard restrictions in place. GameStop is rumored to be one per user name; or something like that. Best Buy is doing a 12:01am opening on June 5th for the device (which seems unheard of today).
Re: The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - All New Features Revealed
@RenanKJ yes, the original Pro controllers work with the Switch 2. You will not need to get rid of them if you don't want to.
Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2
@Wadeimous were they able to sign into their individual accounts to do it? I think it's a per user restriction. I was able to put in for one. Just in case Best Buy flubs it up.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Launches 5th June 2025, Mario Kart World Bundle Confirmed
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Launches 5th June 2025, Mario Kart World Bundle Confirmed
@Clammy from what I’m understanding, it’s more than just a couple lines of code. We’re taking asset upgrades, features added/integrated into the games that aren’t in the original and other changes. Again, they’re optional and you don’t need them to play the game in its original form. Nintendo will likely provide a performance patch or some update to the original that will help them run on the new unit, but it isn’t going to change the game.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Launches 5th June 2025, Mario Kart World Bundle Confirmed
