Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

@Wadeimous were they able to sign into their individual accounts to do it? I think it's a per user restriction. I was able to put in for one. Just in case Best Buy flubs it up.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Launches 5th June 2025, Mario Kart World Bundle Confirmed

progx

@Clammy okay... good for you if you don't want to buy it. I don't think Nintendo is "penny pinching" on providing optional upgrades to existing games. Personally, I'm not the biggest Zelda fan, so I'll likely not get either of them. Tears of the Kingdom had the coolest upgrades over Breathe of the Wild, especially sharing creations with friends will seem to go over well with the consumers they're targeting.

However, from what I'm reading, it seems NSO+Expansion Pass members will get these upgrades as part of their memberships; specifically for Zelda. The rumored prices are $10-15 per pack. This matches to what Sony was doing with their titles. 3rd parties will likely just provide free optimized patches to up convert Switch games to take advantage of the Switch 2.

For me, Mario Kart World will be a game I want to play on day one on it. I've been buying Mario Kart since I got the DS Lite in 2006. I'll probably get the Kirby upgrade pack since Forgotten Lands was very fun to play.

I don't know what the programming side of things looks like, but I trust Nintendo's quality level over Sony or other publishers. It's not my place to put a price on it since the workers who do it need to be paid. It still takes hours/days of testing these games when you make alterations in the code. I've played in Python and Java at the basic level, I can imagine what it would be like working with a huge app. It has to be a lot of work, so if $10-15 bucks is what they choose to charge for it is Nintendo's decision.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Launches 5th June 2025, Mario Kart World Bundle Confirmed

@Clammy from what I’m understanding, it’s more than just a couple lines of code. We’re taking asset upgrades, features added/integrated into the games that aren’t in the original and other changes. Again, they’re optional and you don’t need them to play the game in its original form. Nintendo will likely provide a performance patch or some update to the original that will help them run on the new unit, but it isn’t going to change the game.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Launches 5th June 2025, Mario Kart World Bundle Confirmed

progx

@Clammy you can still play the original Switch game on the Switch 2. You just have to pay extra for the updated visuals, feature upgrades and any other changes they made to the original to take advantage of those features on the Switch 2. Otherwise, you original purchase will play like it was on the original Switch hardware.

For example, if you want to use the Nintendo Switch app on your phone with Zelda BoTW as a second screen, you’ll need the upgrade pack. If you want to keep playing your game as is, you won’t need to pay for anything. Likely Nintendo will provide a free patch for the game to use the new screen resolution and any other improvements to have the original Switch game to function as it’s intended to play.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

progx

They turned on the hose of announcements for this new system. This was the best Direct in a very long time, first time I can say 10/10. The Switch 2 will have great appeal to anyone who wants to play games; mobile gamers are proving to be more loyal than the hardcore ones.

Re: Has The Xbox Switch 2 Rival Just Revealed Its True Form?

progx

@larryisaman and NL never runs stories about AAA games on the iPhone or iPad. All those mobile devices outsell PCs every year, including Android tablets. They really don’t want you to think that traditional gaming is hanging on by a thread against mobile.

Re: Ex-Nintendo Duo Unsure Mario Kart 9 Will Be An Instant "Slam Dunk" For Switch 2

progx

@larryisaman I think they might be trying to apply the iPhone model on the Switch going forward. It won't mean a new Switch is released every year, but every 4-5 years there will be an updated model. By years 7-8, you'll want to upgrade your Switch with trading or buying it.

I strongly suspect Nintendo to release a Shield TV type box for their Switch at some point. Especially if this rumored C button means cast.

Re: Ex-Nintendo Duo Unsure Mario Kart 9 Will Be An Instant "Slam Dunk" For Switch 2

progx

@SalvorHardin haven’t you seen how Microsoft milks Forza? Nintendo is very mild with MK compared to them.

Honestly, they added more DLC to MK8D due to the sales of it on the Switch. They would’ve made a new version if sales were stratospheric for it.

Also, do you know what the complete MK9 looks like? What information are you withholding from the public?

Re: Ex-Nintendo Duo Unsure Mario Kart 9 Will Be An Instant "Slam Dunk" For Switch 2

progx

Don’t know why Kit and Krysta always feel the need to share their Nintendo knowledge. Companies change. Don’t know why they think Nintendo was the same before, during and after when they worked there. What was true while they were working there years ago is no longer the case.

The next Mario Kart will sell well. I think the Switch 2 will sell VERY well, it will easily be behind or in front of the Switch. If Nintendo can tap the smartphone habit and get users to upgrade every 4-8 years, people will buy it.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss On Switch 2's Name: Nintendo Created So Much "Brand Value"

progx

@PokeMadness1996 and the majority of costumers going to buy the new Switch isn’t going to think that way. The smartphones use this type of numerical updates more than the consoles. You’re missing the big picture, the non-gamer has a short attention span and “Switch 2” is easier for them to see it’s an upgrade. Super Switch or whatever you mentioned would’ve caused for pause, which Nintendo doesn’t want.

Also, Nintendo has never referred to the Switch as a console. They’ve called a handheld, platform or device. Us fans have called it that, so have the press, but never Nintendo themselves.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss On Switch 2's Name: Nintendo Created So Much "Brand Value"

progx

@PokeMadness1996 Sony doesn't own it anymore. Apple, Samsung and Google do it every year for their smartphones, this is why Nintendo is doing it. Those customers they are targeting since they're conditioned to upgrade every few years. Sure, Sony started the trend in gaming, but it's not exclusively theirs any longer. With consumers attention spans being EXTREMELY limited, calling it the Switch 2 is the best thing they could've done. The Wii to Wii U was the most confusing upgrade to the non-gaming customer in Nintendo's history; also watching Microsoft completely butcher naming conventions probably helped Nintendo make their decision along with their own.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Seemingly Confirms More Departures From PlatinumGames

progx

@Axecon unlikely since Nintendo completely funded Bayonetta 2 and 3, so they assumed all the risks of it. SEGA made pure profit off of it since they didn't have to do anything except grant Nintendo exclusive use of their IP.

Which is why I think Nintendo should just buy Bayonetta from SEGA at this point.

Re: Civilization VII Devs "Love" What Nintendo Is Doing With Switch 2 Joy-Con

progx

@HolyGeez03 traditionally, it wasn't really true and nor did RTS games do well on consoles. The PS4 and Xbox One started to change it up a little bit, but the Switch seemed to knock the door down. Civilization, Railway Empire, Tropico 6 and Cities Skylines have done pretty well on the Switch, so I'm not surprised the mouse mode is strongly rumored.

Also, from our perspectives it might not be true, but the sales of these games contradict our opinions. What I'm saying is I agree with your perspective, but there's a big base on the Switch for it.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss On Switch 2's Name: Nintendo Created So Much "Brand Value"

progx

@PokeMadness1996 for normal fans like us, it doesn't matter what they name it. However, for the mainstream fan who doesn't get into the weeds or follow along, the Switch 2 is the best name they could have gone with. The mainstream needs it to be simple, plus since Sony has proven with the PlayStation it works; along with Apple, Samsung and Google with their smartphones. It works for it. Super Switch, Switch Double, Switheroo, Switch Peanut Butter/Jelly/Gold, whatever you've put together in your head would've liked confused the customer like the Wii U and 3DS did for their transitional period.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss On Switch 2's Name: Nintendo Created So Much "Brand Value"

progx

@anoyonmus not even just for PlayStation, but thanks to that concept it followed into other industries. Apple is another example with their iPhone line-up, all they do is introduce iPhone ## and it's understood by the consumer it's an upgrade. Google's Pixel line-up has been on the same trend, Samsung was one this trend, but seemed to deviate slightly.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 Announcement Reportedly Impacted Steam Deck Sales

progx

@Donutman I know why, the Steam Deck still behaves like a PC and not a console. There’s still a learning curve attached it. The majority Switch audience has decided the Steam Deck isn’t worth their time, especially if their time is free.

For example, Far Cry 5’s controller is broken by Steam’s controller overlay, they still haven’t fixed it at all. This is a Valve issue, not Ubisoft.

I sold my Steam Deck for the Legion Go, but my Switch OLED still gets WAY more play than it does. Even for my 3rd party titles. Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are far easier to play on the Switch than the Deck. Don’t chime in and say “It works, you just didn’t switch Proton layers,” or whatever fifteen step system people like talk down with.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 Announcement Reportedly Impacted Steam Deck Sales

progx

Since that list is driven by the price and less the quantity, not sure I’ve put a lot of stock into the Switch 2 effecting the sales of Steam Deck. The upcoming Lenovo Legion S with SteamOS is going to impact their Steam Deck sales more than the Switch.

NL, no matter how much you push this device to your audience doesn’t make it true for the 95-97% of Switch users who likely don’t game on PC; about the majority say the Switch is their only gaming device.

The iPhone hurts Switch sales more, yet you still don’t think big AAA games coming to it is a “big deal.” I think you want to be called Valve Life somedays.

Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?

progx

@rjejr well, Nintendo has between 150-160 million possible Switch 2 buyers. Guess that’s a lot of Kool Aid going around, especially since most of the audience is playing the games while you’re labeling people for the devices they own. Most people are out in the world trying to survive and video games are a luxury. Are you seriously going to insult someone for owning a Switch and not your device? Even an iPhone? Especially if they saved their money for one. I would check that Kool Aid comment at the door. If you play on PC, can I say you’re an anti-social basement dweller? No, that would be just as bad.

I’m highlighting the fact Nintendo is approaching the market (and audience) the same way all the smartphone manufacturers do. This ad targets the overwhelming majority of them, it shows there’s an upgrade coming. Samsung does the same thing with their Galaxy phones, Google with their Pixel, it isn’t unique to Apple. The mainstream audience isn’t going to jump at tech specs anymore, especially when more people game on smartphones, tablets and set top boxes than consoles/PCs. Hell, they should throw Nintendo into the mobility market since they have never called the Switch a console once. There’s been a huge shift with the Switch, the majority who own one says it’s their only dedicated gaming device they have. Those of us who have multiple, we’re in the super minority. Third party developers are going to bring all their big guns this time since they ALL made a lot of money on the current Switch, plus the other consoles and PC aren’t breaking any records with software sales. I don’t know why everyone believe Nintendo has to bring their games to PC, they don’t have to do it. In fact, you’re better off putting your games on Switch since the audience buys just as often as iOS users on the App Store.
