@somnambulance this is precisely how I feel. I would also say that the controls are hideously inconsistent at times, because of the way they have to be used.
I do not think the game does a good enough job teaching you how to do anything remotely advanced either. I am trying to get through the challenges through sheer brute force at the moment. I can't see any reason at this time to continue with the game once I have cleared those, there's very little drive to play the actual matches online with no in-game rewards on offer.
Presumably a much larger number of people bought Hori's officially licensed (and listed on all the stores that were selling the console, including Nintendo's own), significantly cheaper (and significantly worse quality), much more fun-looking Piranha Plant Camera instead, if they wanted to pick up a camera for Switch 2.
Ollie, please can you amend this article. 3-lap races are still in random, all they've done is expand the pool of choices in random to be the full selection including intermission tracks. To suggest that they're gone is inaccurate.
The amount of people completely missing the point of the article in these comments is astounding. It's not about GAMES NEED TO BE MADE EASIER FOR MY KID WAAAAAAA, the easy mode is already there, but it's attached to characters the kids simply don't want to play as, which is counterintuitive and frankly a stupid move in retrospect, although we were all praising nintendo at the time for at least providing accessibility options.
It's a case of "good idea, but here's where we can make it better next time around so it doesn't miss the point of introducing it in the first place which is to get kids to play the game. They want to be able to choose any character they want."
There's nothing wrong with that. Congratulations if you beat contra on your own as a 5 year old without using any codes (you didn't, but let's say you actually did) but your experience is not relevant to how other people experience this hobby that we have all come to enjoy.
Again, they already put an easy mode in for kids etc, it's just not very appealing to them. It can be made better. It's not something I would have realised without this article pointing it out. Hopefully they do this for the next game.
Is that with or without all the funding from Kickstarter that was used for development taken into account?
Being profitable is itself great, but the achievement would be that much greater if they've managed to recoup the amount they got from crowdsourcing as part of this milestone.
I'm guessing that they've been "rejected" at their request for a rating of suitable for all ages/a specific young age rating
Their tweet does not specify that it will never come out. It could well be going through an appeals process to keep a lower rating before being released, but they didn't allocate time for such a process when pushing towards the release date.
Cheap Plug: Over on the nintendolife YouTube channel this Thursday, Felix will be seeing the original credits for Majora's Mask for the first time as he completes his blind playthrough of the game! I doubt this button combination will work on the NSO emulation version but we can get him to try it out for fun!
Got to play the demo of this a couple of months back and it was pretty solid, but 5 minutes isnt really enough to get a huge feel and test the waters.
The stand was super low key and photography etc was banned, so it's not surprising that they are delaying it. There's stuff they're obviously not happy with under the hood.
The HxH manga finally makes it's very much anticipated return this week, so they were probably hoping to launch very soon to capitalise on the hype from that on top of holiday sales but it's better to get the game running as best as possible. These types of games live and die on how they're received after the initial wave of people buying on IP awareness alone is gone.
"Floundering" is more than harsh, the chart is for physical sales and it wasn't even available in stores. Perhaps the tagline should be "Emio sales cause smiles for NUK despite limited distribution"
The primary place to buy the game in the UK was the My Nintendo Store.
They SOLD OUT of their stock over a week before the title released.
All of this is important in context, the fact that it cracked the charts at all is astounding given the short time between announcement and release, that it is a niche genre, that the previous titles aren't available physically etc etc.
I'm sure the powers that be are ecstatic with the sales figures tbh.
@Aurumonado the imprisoning war is shown on the same branch as the decline timeline, which directly ties TOTK (and by proxy BOTW) to Decline, despite their being placed separately.
However, with the time shenanigans involved in the imprisoning war, I'd assume that's their escape plan, much like how the OoT shenanigans split the timeline in the first place.
@Smigit honestly, this is my first thought too. A title that is classed as "major" but can be announced and released by capcom in less than 5 months so doesn't really need much in the way of a hype train ahead of release, seems to tick all the boxes. although I'd expect SF6 Championship Edition next summer, 1 year after base release. Which is precisely why I haven't bought it yet.
I've literally been up all night playing into the endgame and they're not wrong - Octopath II easily surpasses every single aspect of the first game by quite some way, the leaps are actually incredible. It's astonishing to think what they could achieve with more development time and budget, given how vastly improved their second title in the series was.
I sure hope they get the opportunity to try it, but if they don't, Octwopath is a masterpiece in of itself and I'm glad we already got the sequel I didn't think we'd get in the first place and it turned out to be magnificent!
@ok1 personal preference - splatoon 2 may objectively be a better game from a technical standpoint but will never have the same impact as the first game did on me
Splatoon (the original, not Splatoon 2) - the innovation and addictive gameplay, coupled with the friends and memories it has brought me have firmly established that as one of my all time favourite games.
I was disappointed when they put GT goku in and I'm even more disappointed now that they've put not 1, but 2 more fighters from GT into the game.
There's a ton of characters that could still be used from Dragonball, Dragonball Z or even Super. Why'd they have to go dig from the worst possible well?
@Xenobound94 implies, but doesn't actually happen. Given they're all fighting game characters, the very least that should be happening in the course of the ad's story is them actually giving him his comeuppance.
But he doesn't actually suffer any consequences that are shown to the viewer, begging the question "why bother?"
@pikminlover you absolutely can score a game lower today even if you believe it to be a better version of the same game. There are more factors at play than you care to acknowledge for the narrative you're trying to portray.
For one, as others have said countless times that you wish to ignore for little reason other than to feed your own agenda, this is a subjective review written by an individual, who has written a full-length review and given it an arbitrary score out of 10 that they feel the game, in the context of literally all other games that have been released, deserves at this point in time.
And that's the key - at this point in time. The score isn't on a scale of Pikmin 3 of 2013, because that's a ludicrous scale for a review website to base all its scoring on as a point of reference. It's relative to all gaming available in 2020.
That's 7 years of advances in gaming to compare this slightly enhanced port to.
It's on new hardware to boot, so even if the scale is only comparing it to other games available on the same platform (it isn't, but just roll with this to the end of the point here) there is a TON more competition on the switch in 2020 to be compared to than there was on the wii u in 2013, so if the scale was only relative to other games on the same platform, its very probable that this version of Pikmin 3 sits lower on that list than its relative position among available wii u games when it was first released. Ergo, it is perfectly reasonable to deliver a lower relative score today, despite being a superior version of the same game.
Reviews are contextual to the time at which they are written, simple as that. Nothing to do with editorial issues as you seem to have convinced yourself.
If I could vote for two above all else, it would be MindSeize and Alwa's legacy. Both looked really good, and without this presentation I doubt I'd ever have heard of either of them. Glad that I did, because now I can go buy them instead of them getting lost on the eshop.
How on earth did anyone seriously think it would be Twintelle?
She's the one character who doesn't use her arms to fight in a game called ARMS.
Guest characters in smash are used to advertise other franchises. Twintelle would be a confusing message to people who otherwise know nothing about ARMS.
It's also a statistical fact that Min Min and Ninjara are the two most popular characters. They placed 1st and 2nd respectively in a loooong party crash tournament series that ended almost exactly 1 year ago, which is pretty much as canon a popularity contest as you can get.
Min wins, gets in smash. Jara second, gets mii outfit.
I love this game because it's the only one I can beat Alex at on a regular basis. I like the feeling of being superior for 5 minutes before we switch over to smash and he goes all space dragon stabby stabby on me.
@victordamazio in fairness, it hasn't been free since Gen 6, you needed to pay for Pokemon Bank to transfer anything from Gen 5 and earlier to the 3DS games.
@jancotianno Whilst I can appreciate the point you're trying to make, I'm sorry but Smash Ultimate and Splatoon 2 are really not even close to being the same games as their predecessors.
You might as well be saying the Super Mario Bros. is the same as NSBMU - there's shared gameplay mechanics between the two, but they're definitely not the same thing. There's so much more going on.
so, that'll be home, sleep, maybe new content for masters, patting themselves on the back re: swsh, announcing a couple of new Gmax mon to come to wild area news... anything else....?
@Blue_Rover your best bet is to check the official hashtag on twitter (#PokemonCenterLondon) as those in the queue are constantly updating where they are, how large it is, if it's been closed off etc. Keep an eye on how things develop over the coming days, but I can't see the situation getting better.
Last night, they launched a new twitter account for the store (@pokemonpopup) and they actually announced that from today onwards, they're closing the store at 6pm, instead of 10pm as originally stated.
They're trying to reduce the length of the queue by forcing a point where they have to cut it off earlier, this way they can artificially extend the life of their stock so they don't run out before the final day. It's a complete mess.
Dala/James/Hatman/The Dirty Gherklover has been a credit to the organisation and an absolute rock for so many Nintendo communities.
Honestly, it's difficult to try and state how important he has been. But suffice to say, I wouldn't be anywhere near as involved with any of the scenes that I'm proud to say that i'm now deeply embedded in if it wasn't for this man.
@whanvee whilst it was impossible to transfer from Gen 1/2 to Gen 3, every single pokemon to date was coded into the Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald carts - those that weren't found in Hoenn became catchable with the release of Fire Red/Leaf Green and could be traded to any Gen 3 cart, because they were in the games' code already.
