Min Min has been confirmed as the next fighter to appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The character was revealed during today's livestream, hosted by none other than series director, Masahiro Sakurai. She was revealed alongside a brand new animated trailer, which saw her beat other ARMS stars to earn the right to compete.
Min Min will be playable from 29th June (30th June in Europe due to timezone differences), available in a standalone pack for $5.99 or as part of the second Fighters Pass.
The show also gave us a look at some brand new Mii Outfits coming to the game, including characters from Fallout, Tekken, Splatoon and ARMS, and revealed that new amiibo are on the way!
So, what do you think? Are you happy with the reveal? We don't wanna say we told you so, but our guess last week was pretty good, huh?

Nice. They did the sensible thing and added by far the best ARMS character.
FINALLY, the best Arms fighter is getting the recognition she deserves!
More like Meh Meh
Ribbon Girl and Twintelle were definitely better choices for Smash. I still can't believe Nintendo screwed up with making Spring Man an assist trophy and waited this long to add an Arms character.
Haven't sought out a Smash amiibo for a while, but I may go for this one!
If you thought it was gonna be anyone else, you're crazy
Shame it wasn't Twintelle, but I'll take this nonetheless.
It was very clear that she would be the character. At least for me. She is the most popular character from this franchise.
I LOST POWER DURING THIS REVEAL SINCE MARTA JUST COULDN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH SO SHE CUT THE POWER!!!
....Also, im glad that it's her, she was my most wanted from Arms (along with Twintelle).
Wanted Helix but she was my second choice! Awesome!
BOOOOO!!!! So wanted Twintelle. Sore loser here. I’ll see myself out
Now I want some ramen
I was hopping for Ninjara. Oh well I’m not going to be and sweaty smash fan, so ok with it.
Twintelle are better in every way, dat ...
Ramen Bowl should have been the stage, but I get why they went with this.
I’m happy for those that wanted her in, but I’m definitely gonna pass on this character.
Best they could have picked! Was prepared for ribbon girl
Thought it would probably be her! I’m happy. Twintelle would have been a good pick as well but Min Min has been the breakout character from the game.
I would have bought if the fighter was Twintelle but unfortunately not who I was hoping for. Still better than springman but doesn't excite me personally. I mean Arms in general wasn't going to really knock socks off given the franchise. I guess at least its not Fire Emblem again. Hm... Yah... Anyway...
How many blondes are on the roster again....
This probably makes sense. I am not at all excited for this though and honestly a bit burned out on the DLC grind.
Time to wrap it up, release the Ultimate DX version and move on!!!
I still haven’t bought the new season pass come to think of it. I would have went with another Arms character but still cool.
Not sure I really care to be honest. I’ll still get the DLC but I couldn’t possibly be more apathetic about a character.
Was expecting they do an bowser jr/hero kind of character , but think it pretty awesome they just went with an female rep.
They finally had the opportunity to include a POC (Twintelle, no I’m not including Dark Pit) into smash and didnt take it 😐
This was a pretty awesome reveal to be honest, and even though I do like the character, the biggest thing that made me giddy was the new features coming to Smash, and the mii costumes. The amiibo also look excellent too.
@ninoishi Min Min is Asian, not white.
@msvt yah I rather see this energy go into a new mode than more characters Tbh. I haven really been playing smash at all. Maybe a new mode would freshen it up for me. Although knowing my friends they would only want to play it the same way for eternity. Maybe its over for me.
Thank goodness we got another female. Was really becoming a sausage fest. And super happy we got an Asian finally.
@thesilverbrick that...isnt really what i meant, was it
@ninoishi bug off with the pandering, please.
I was expecting Twintelle as well but still this one looks good.
She looks awesome. I was kind of hoping for a Bowser Jr. type situation with a couple different fighters rolled into one, but they leaned heavily into her specific dragon arm and flip kick abilities, so I understand the decision.
@thesilverbrick they are still right in that Nintendo did have the oppertunity to put soneone other than that Dark Skin alt dark pit as a dark skin option and character. There was nothing else in the roster like her yet. Plenty of light skin blondes tho. Samus, ken, cloud, peach, shulk, etc etc
Oh my, it's like all my Christmases have come at once, seriously though a good addition to the roster...
I'm glad the character wasn't Spring Man or Ribbon Girl, who would have been the two obvious choices.
That reveal trailer was awesome - probably among the best reveal trailers in the series IMO.
@Arkay pandering? All I asked was for ONE poc 💀 ok
I'm happy with this choice. Although I would've been happy regardless of which character they chose. As the ARMS team has been saying from the beginning, each character is equal. There is no mascot per say.
I like her moveset. There's a good bit of complexity to her movement and attacks. Quite different from all the other characters.
Looking forward to this! I've been hoping for a fighter with long range and is effective against heavy fighters. Now maybe I'll have a chance at winning some battles against my friends (they tend to use Bowser and Ganondorf).
@Arkay its no less pandering than when ppl ask for finally another female character.
I has hoping for Twinnie, but I'm happy that it wasn't a cover character.
Etika must be dancing in his grave right now.
And now I'm worried that Twitter will be screaming "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" because it wasn't Twinnie. Especially because of the "BLM" and all that stuff going on in the world at the moment.
I honestly thought the mystery character would be all arms characters through re-skinning, but I'm pleased that Min Min was the one- She's my favorite ARMS character!
@Kirby_Girl he's making it seem as if its crucial. It's a game. They are not forced to add anyone. Not that I'm against it, I just dislike forced diversity for diversity's sake.
She is a pretty cool character, so ni complaints.
@Arkay diversity isn't forced. It isn't in the real world. We kind of just exist. So having someone just existing in the game finally would reflect a reality more honestly.
Let's all just be happy it's Nintendo characters, and not the boring third party ones that make zero sense. Keep them jokers as spirits.
Eh, I'm okay with this. I do wish I could get B-1 Bayonetta, Girl Corrin and the Inkling and Ken in amiibo form. It'll give me something to do before getting Joker and Hero in the fall.
We can never have nice things on the internet. I feel like every DLC character gets complaints. I didn't play Arms, but some people are not even giving her a chance.
@ninoishi well, Min Min is Chinese, so technically still a POC
@Arkay if adding ONE black character to a game with like what, 60+ white and eastern asian characters is “forced”...that’s a bit of an issue
@jonlol I
That's awesome and I'm glad for her rep but I think ppl knew what he meant and east Asians are not underepesented in games lol.
@mesome713 Min Min makes sense?
@mesome713 Also, Joker is not Asian?
@Franklin That’s the word I was looking for, cheers 😂😂
She looks like a fun character to play
Not a fan of her or ARMs but I'm happy for the people who are.
So glad it wasn’t spring man, would have opened up all the crazy Walugi fans again!
Never played arms but she looks tricky, happy to put the time in.
Cool final smash showing all the other fighters!
the music/stage looks and sounds awesome, really happy, roll on next Monday
@Collette It’s a Smash character, even the ones I don’t particularly like can be fun to play.
@ninoishi okay maybe I wasn't explaining properly I admit that. My real gripe is everytime we get something new there's bound to be comments along the lines of : "why isn't he/she black? Missed opportunity. Why another male/female? Missed opportunity." Just why? I'm glad we're getting fighters regardless of whatever the hell they look like or identify as, just make them natural and not forced.
Hopefully this explains it better.
EDIT: Typo's.
Twintelle seemed to also have a lot of fans. Well, maybe next time. If you guys really want to have a person of colour as a fighter in Smash, then sadly I have to say that you guys have to wait a while. Nintendo, as well as many other companies, do have people of colour in their games, but mostly in the roles of supporting characters.
@ninoishi Agreed. I was disappointed too.
I don't think there's even a character variant or Mii Fighter costume either? So unless you include your Mii, there's no rep.
I don't know what other opportunity there will be for representation now.
@Arkay still don't get your gripe but honestly not sure why you would be too bothered. Its no different than ppl saying there are too many fighters or swords ppl or whatever. PPL ARE ALWAYS going to call out imbalances as they look for something new. I wouldn't let it bother you.
Either way Min Min is way more awesome than a lot of other ideas ppl passed around so this is still call for celebration
@ninoishi You know POC means non-white right? I understand you wanted a black character (I too was also hoping for Twintelle) but POC does not refer to any specific race.
@Kirby_Girl I guess you're right about that, myself as an example for complaining🤣
@Anri02 yeah, thats true, i shouldve been more specific!
still crossing my fingers that doomslayer rip and tears his way in to smash plus i wonder wen were suppose to get more info on doom eternal switch release date.
@mesome713 technically the Pokémon trainer is Asian, canonically Ryu is Asian. I've never played the persona games but I thought all of those characters were Japanese.
@Arkay its cool can't wait for future updates! Have fun
Would have preferred twintelle, but it's nice arms is getting represented.
@mesome713 This pack will let you a little more happy than last one.
EDit: I thinked Sakurai was do a reference to megaman but instead he did a reference to kunnikuman.
Users make a good point. We need more black protagonist in the gaming industry. It's clear how the gaming industry has hardly any when you think of it. This is sad and we must fight to fix this.
I’m happy we got an arms rep and she looks fun. I was really hoping for a mix of characters as alternates, I realize they probably couldn’t have done them all. My 1 pick would’ve been master mummy but we did need a girl rep I suppose, I would’ve chose ribbon girl on that front. I just like her color scheme and super hero look more.
i freaked out for two things
min min, and my main joker finally getting an amibo
@ninoishi Ganondorf is a PoC
@senseiFLAX And it’s beautiful
Booooooo......oh well
It's official, the Spirit Rule has been BROKEN!
@Antraxx777
POC? That's the name of the new sequel:
Legend of Zelda: Person of Color
For like the first half of this thread, I thought ninoishi was saying "piece of ----."
You know, not crud, but games sites are for kids, too.
@WickedUnicarnBoi You half get him through Mii costume though.
Not gonna buy it. Don't care about ARMS.
Got nothing against Min Min, but visually I find her possibly the most boring character in the ARMS roster. Was really hoping there'd be lots of them as skins or something.
I'm happy they picked Min Min. She's my favorite ARMS character.
Nice, getting a new character is Smash is always exciting. Min Min in particular looks pretty fun to play as.
I wanted ribbon girl 😣
Gotta admit, I wasn't that interested in a fighter from Arms but now seeing it in action makes me think she's actually the most unique from all the DLC fighters until now
Makes me wanna finally get a DLC fighter, and pay $6 just for her
But I think I'll wait the second one to see if I get the fighter pass instead
Is it weird that this is the first DLC character I actually want? And I barely touched ARMS, I didn't even get through the single player to join online (and consequently missed all the Party Crashes).
@gcunit Really? I think default man Spring Man and default girl Ribbon Girl look the most dull. Min Min is a middle point between them and someone off the wall like Helix or Mechanica.
Her arena is pretty boring though.
@Joker1234 “Nintendo”
I'm worried about fighting this character online. Can't help but feel nervous about all the laggy Min Min mains attacking you from across the stage!
@Arkay The argument about "forced diversity" is so silly. The game isn't gonna organically diversify itself. So someone has to actively make a decision to include diverse characters.
Eh, zero surprise from me. I would've preferred Dr. Coyle or Ninjara, but no shock or problem here.
I am a little baffled by all the calls for Twintelle though. She's one of the very few characters I was pretty confident wouldn't show up here.
...it's just because people think she's attractive in a 'mature' way, isn't it.
This is the first time that a game's secondary character has debuted as a Smash character over the main character.
One has to wonder if Min Min will become the main character for Arms 2, if it is ever made.
I wanted Lola Pop so bad that I tricked myself into believing it could have been anyone but Min Min. In my defense, Sakurai announced it as a mystery, as if a character no one would expect would have a shot. Then the trailer starts and immediately confirms that it was the one everyone thought it was.
I'm still waiting for every fighter to be revealed before committing to a purchase. Min Min might be one of the DLC characters I pick up if I ever get this game, but she's no where near hype enough to get me to purchase early.
Maybe they'll continue grabbing more interesting supporting characters over protagonists. Nia and Dromarch would be amazing!
I mostly mained Min Min so this is marvellous.
@ninoishi Pokemon Trainer has some POC/non-white alternate skins, and so does the Villager and Inkling. Granted, that's not nearly enough, but it's out there.
In the end, it's kinda sad. I've seen kids of color playing as white characters in plenty of games where there's no choice, and watching them flip through the character select screen indecisively kinda kicks you in the feels. I'm mixed-race, and I know playing as a character who looks like you isn't everything, but it's definitely not trivial.
I’ve been wanting to play arms again. I once owned it but it just didn’t have the “legs” to keep it up and running for me. It’s fun to pick up and play but I think it’s not quite worth $60. I love the music and character designs. It’s very creative. This is the reason I’d like to have seen a multi layered character with this one like the koopa kids but some of the characters are just too different from the bunch to include like that, such a as helix, master mummy, etc. We definitely needed an arms rep. I’m hoping Nintendo gives us a classic character in this batch, I’m thinking excitebike Lansing tricks on opponents heads and uppercutting with ramps to jump off of would be very cool.
And a wheelie to block.
@SmaggTheSmug I mean I just don't find her very eye-catching. Her default colour scheme doesn't make her stand out, and the hat makes her kinda anonymous looking. Whatever they say about the protagonists, Spring Man is iconic to me, and Ribbon Girl is kinda the other half of the ARMS brand double act.
All I care about is that another female got in.
I knew many voted for her on the polls, and I'm already excited! Maybe because of her moveset, since I suspected how she could work in Smash, and the Dragon Arms was the best aspect for me
And once again... we have 5 fighters left. Who will be the first- I mean, second one?
TBH, I'm more excited with Sakurai implementing the ARMS than I am with Minmin. I was excited at first, and I understood the reasoning, but I'm still bummed about Spring Man not getting in. Just my luck, my favorite character becomes an assist trophy and his inclusion would make the internet meltdown with assist trophy upgrade speculation (and I say this as someone who wants to play Waluigi, Dillon and Shovel Knight). I just really hope something happens to include other fighters, because I'm probably going to have to wait around a decade before I can play Spring Man in Smash, if at all. I have a bad he's going to suffer the same fat as Liu Kang in MK-sidelined and forgotten.
Not to be a downer, because I'm generally really happy about this. The ARMS music, the missing Spirits, Spring Stadium with character portraits shown off, Minmin's move set, and the trailer and reveal art were hilarious. I just don't like Minmin that much. Spring Man is my favorite, Ribbon Girl's a close second, and to be Frank, Max Brass and Dr.Coyle are probably the best character's in the game, in character design and personality. Also, I can be contrarian, and I got sick and tired of the internet drooling all over Minmin. I usually like GameXplain, but their speculation discussion ignored EVERY character in the game and was just a debate between whether or not the pick would be Minmin or Twintelle.
I really was happy at first, but then I got annoyed after I thought about it, and at the moment I'm a bit indifferent towards Minmin. This is just me though, Spring Man was literally the only character I REALLY wanted to play in Smash since the DLC started back during the Wii U/3DS era, so I'm kind of salty. I'll get over it, especially with the thought that this inclusion will hopefully lead to an ARMS 2 someday. Also, more Smash Fighters, and since my choice is gone, it's impossible for m to be disappointed, so that'll be fun.
well the creator of ARMS specifically requested her so no one can complain to Sakurai and his team
Best newcomer in Ultimate in my opinion. I thought Min Min should have gotten in even though I wanted Twintelle. Seeing how they translated ARMS to Smash, I can see why Twintelle of all of ARMS cast would not have worked as well: It is her hair. Twintelle's face would be obscured so much in a 2D fighter like Smash while trying to accurately replicate the feel of playing ARMS. I'm looking forward to playing as Min Min next Monday!
This is the first reveal that made me kind of angry. Twintelle should have been chosen
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy!!!! I am very pleased. This will probably be the new character to finally get me back into that game.
How on earth did anyone seriously think it would be Twintelle?
She's the one character who doesn't use her arms to fight in a game called ARMS.
Guest characters in smash are used to advertise other franchises. Twintelle would be a confusing message to people who otherwise know nothing about ARMS.
It's also a statistical fact that Min Min and Ninjara are the two most popular characters. They placed 1st and 2nd respectively in a loooong party crash tournament series that ended almost exactly 1 year ago, which is pretty much as canon a popularity contest as you can get.
Min wins, gets in smash. Jara second, gets mii outfit.
Cool! Min Min was who I hoped for.
Great choice!
This is a terrible choice should been spring man of fire emblem min min is worse.
30 posts before we got into an argument about this dlc character. We're not really breaking any records here but we're doing better at least
I really dont get calls for Springman hes a bit bland and hes already an assist trophy. All other ARMS characters have way more to their designs.
@Roibeard64 Spring Man's only bland in contrast to ARMS other characters, his design is great otherwise, and I still think it's better than people give credit for. Granted, Little Mac already has a boxer style like him, but they could always make Spring Man a bit more goofy and energetic like in the trailer.
Outside of that, his design is the best representation of what ARMS is about-a guy in sports gear with what are essentially boxing gloves and springy arms. People can connect the dots and figure out that ARMS is long-range boxing, it's the reason he was made the cover character on the box art.
@Andrew5678 well the comparison was to other ARMS characters as we knew it was one. Although hed be a bit bland next to alot of smash bros characters too.
Awesome! I'll download when I get the extra funds.
@Roibeard64 You think so? I think he's very distinct even among Smash fighters. He's got the same cartoony art style as Minmin, and the blues and bright pink colors contrast well, plus no one in the game has his hairstyle. If he was translated into Smash, he could be tweaked to be unique to Minmin, and she already stands out. Give him shockwaves that deflect projectiles and light attacks instead of the kicks, and a rage mode that automatically triggers when he reaches 100%, similar to Lucario's but instant instead of a build up.
Granted, if we're talking about unique fighters, Dr.Coyle stands head and shoulders about them both.
@Kirby_Girl Well here's the thing, there are very few black people that live in Asia, so I would say the market doesn't relate to black characters as well as the western market would. I'm all for representations, but Nintendo is a Japanese company, so I think it's completely ok for them to not have any black representations in their games. It's not like western games have very good Asian representations.
Min Min is very cool because she actually speaks Chinese, which is definitely a first in Smash.
I like Twintelle, but.....1) she doesn't use her ARMS, so it's confusing to people who haven't the game, 2) the slow down mechanic that she has would be a nightmare to develop and balance.
Min Min on the other hand is also a popular character, but uses her arms, has a dragon arm, and deflects projectiles, which already exists in the game.
@jonlol Black people and people world wide are big time customers of gaming and Nintendo so that's a nonsense defense imho. (ESPECIALLY THE FIGHTING GAME COMMUNITY) Considering they made changes to animal crossing their biggest seller to date is a big deal. So obviously it plays to appeal world wide when selling word wide. They are Japanese but I can buy their consoles in plenty of other places which means they're playing the global field. Sorry but I don't think the idea that they are Japanese company and maybe they don't have a black friend is any reason to not have characters. Even they know this which is why we're even seeing just now a few more darker characters lately. Marina and Twintelle for example.
@Kirby_Girl I'm not defending them, I'm just explaining things from a different perspective. I agree it would be nice for them to include a black character for their black customers in the west, but underrepresentation of the black community is not a problem that exists in THEIR country and THEIR personal experiences. You can make yourself heard and let them know how much it matters to you as a customer, but that's up to you to make that happen. They're not doing anything wrong because it's not their problem until you make it their problem. So I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying I understand why it's harder for a Japanese company to make black representation a high priority.
@jonlol can't say I agree on your perspective and I think consumers are already making it a concern for Nintendo. Ill just leave it at.
