RiME arrives on PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 26th, but it looks like Switch owners might have to wait longer than expected to get their hands on the puzzle adventure.
According to Australian distributor Five Star Games, the title has been pushed back to Q3 2017, which runs from July to September. It was previously common knowledge that the Switch version would be coming some time after the other editions, with Aussie studio Tantalus handling the porting process. However, this new release window may be a little later than some were anticipating.
Will you hold off buying RiME on other formats and wait for the Switch edition? Or, taking into account that the Nintendo version costs more than the others, is this delay likely to force your hand? Let us know with a comment.

WUT.
Is this Nintendo's fault for not getting dev kits out on time? Either way, hi everyone, hope you're having a lovely Tuesday
Any word on Yooka Laylee?
Well, as long not too expensive, great porting, not boring gameplay, released on physical, I will consider Switch version over the ps4 version.
I hope RiME isn't an example of the norm for Switch ports...
@liljmoore frustratingly no. I have my backer reward Switch version waiting in the wings but I might pick up a physical version on another platform as I kind of want to play it
It's like they want to screw over Switch owners lol
Late and overpriced.
Watch developers still point to this as an example of third parties doing worse on Switch too.
Eurgh
This is just making the date more specific because, as the article tells us, we already knew it would come later. Better specific foreknowledge of when it is coming is only good news, really.
Too bad for them they weren't earlier in the launch window as it would have enticed a fair number of Zelda fans after they finished it I'm betting. Too bad.
Hope the game is good!
This is only the beginning.
This game is going to be DOA.
@Rexx Tantalus, the people who made ME3 WiiU and a number of other UE3 ports to the WiiU are handling the port and they could've ran into an issue with the game that they weren't expecting. They are also working on Sonic Mania, which also got pushed back on all platforms so that could be taking priority right now.
They're making this a very difficult buy on Switch, what's next, cut content?
@Anti-Matter We already know it will be $10 more expensive than the other consoles.
Q3 starts July 1st so that's only 5 weeks later which isn't too bad. With the way things are with Nintendo and 3rd party though, it'll more than likely be the end of Q3. So more expensive and weeks/months late. Great job.
Unrelated, but more positive. Have people seen this?!

Sega are teasing a new announcement. Looks like it's Bayonetta and as there are 3 bullets in the background, I'm calling it - Bayonetta 3
Delay, more expensive, no Trophy's means PS4 version for me... Nintendo need to do something about these points imo if they want Switch to be successful.
@Nik-Davies If Bayonetta 3 is announced and it's not coming to Switch...... lets not go there.
Was just asked whether I wanted to preorder any other Switch games and I thought 'Hmm ... maybe Rime? Nah.' I'm glad I didn't preorder it now. Not gonna wait till Q3 for it so I'll go for the PS4 version, I think. Who knows, maybe I'll doubledip on it if I love it. I don't think I'll do, though.
@OorWullie I can't imagine it won't come to the Switch. But I doubt it'll be exclusive
I doubt this will sell well being 10 dollars higher and coming out later than the rest. They are just asking to not be successful on the switch.
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
RiME
Snake Pass
Sad to see so many games trying to exploit and disrespect the Switch consumer base so soon.
I don't mind waiting for the switch port , being able to play anywhere is a major factor for me.
@Anti-Matter but you can buy it cheaper for your ps4
@OorWullie @Nik-Davies Calling it now, it's going to be on PS4, Xbox One and PC. I doubt it will come to Switch. Not unless it's significantly downgraded making it the less appealing version.
@UK-Nintendo
Ah, no thanks.
If the games appears also on Switch in physical form, I will choose Switch version over ps4 version regardless of their price.
I want the games that can be played anywhere.
Hopefully this is not a portend of things to come, but I bet it's after seeing all the "framerate" issues other games have going between docked/undocked they may be taking the extra time to get it right instead of patch it.
And this is where another developer will learn a thing or two about how to handle porting to multiple systems, and especially what happens when you treat the Nintendo demographic as second class citizens. Spoilers: it won't end well. If you're going to bother to announce support for a Nintendo platform and you have any intention of following through, it better be there on day one and have some degree of parity with its peers, or the players simply won't bother. I know my interest has tanked between the higher price and delay. I probably won't bother now until there's a good sale.
Edit: Joke's on the universe; I got it for $23.99 thanks to a pricing error on Amazon. So, looking like I'll be playing it when it releases for a price I like after all!
@Anti-Matter ok. Congratulations on your PS4 purchase. Have fun
@Nik-Davies It's not Bayonetta 3. It's most definitely Bayonetta 1 for PC, as it was a link found in the april fools bayonetta steam game and the background is a promo image for Bayonetta 1.
EDIT: https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/bayonetta/images/c/c1/Bayonetta_reload.gif/revision/latest?cb=20140111045313 <-- Here you can see the exact same image and it was part of a trailer from bayonetta 1.
If Bayonetta would ever come, they would announce it at E3.
Well done tantalus, well done. Why don't you cut out half the content too while you're at it. And make the game 99dollars, that way you guarantee no sales. Because it looks like that's what you want right?
@ThePoochyKid Snake Pass is "disrespectful".....? How? I have it, it runs wonderfully overall, looks fantastic, and has the same price as the other platforms and released on the same day. It took a few patches, sure, but all of the problems were ironed out in under a week and it's a fun game; how can that be construed as "disrespect"?
@ThePoochyKid How is snake pass exploiting switch users, I'm curious?
@Nik-Davies Thanks, will do something on that now!
Hopefully they don't cancel it altogether, as I was looking forward to getting this on the Switch... but if the price is too high, then I might not get it at all.
@ThePoochyKid Why include USF2 in that? Because of the outrageous price for such a tiny upgrade or is there something else I missed with it?
@UK-Nintendo
Well, right now I just only have 1 PS4 game (FF X/X-2 HD Remaster), play the games by rent, still waiting another 3 PS4 games (Overcooked, Earthlock: Festival of Magic, World of Final Fantasy) from playasia. I can buy real PS4 anytime if I got more than 6 PS4 games, but right now I choose play them by rent, thanks to my local game shop owner who allows me to use his PS4.
@Nik-Davies C'mon, it's obviously Shadow the Hedgehog 2...
This poor game. It's been through such development turmoil. Wasn't it supposed to be released around the time of Wind Waker HD? That was the E3 they did the big announce with Sony and the internet went crazy about "Sony's Wind Waker killer" and then the next day they announced this game was coming to WiiU too. And here we are, one whole platform later, and it's STILL getting delayed.
It was telling that it was not included with the Nindies presentation. I'm glad they have a knowledgeable studio doing the port, and they're kind of committed to delivering at this point, but you really have to wonder if supporting Switch was a move they really had the ability to do given where they were at the time.
Annnnnnnnd Pass.
Im sure ill have the cheaper pc version by that time which is even than cheaper if the price stays the same.
Not again!
not fussed about this as I don't want to be charged an extra £10 just because I have a different platform. Also from what I remember this game isn't that long so even without the price increase it was already too expensive.
@ThePoochyKid How do the games "Snake Pass" & "Rime" disrespect the Switch owner? What are you talking about?
Like NEStalgia said, this game is super delayed to begin with. At this point, my guess is that they're getting bogged down by Nintendo's Indie approval process somewhere along the line. Sumo Digital reported that they ported Snake Pass over to the NS within a week, which also used Unreal Engine 4. Once the x86 version is completed, there's no technical reason why a similar time frame couldn't be achieved for RiME.
If it reviews well then I will probably go with PS4 version. Depends on when on Q3 this will drop in switch. If it's over 6 weeks then I definitely won't wait.
Good to see I'm not missing out on anything yet. I'll be getting this for the PS4, but it's a shame the Switch version comes so much later (and the extra €10 doesn't help it either).
Late and overpriced. What's not to love about that?
Don't care if it's late or overpriced, I am getting the game as it looks super cool.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Oh, I will consider this game on Switch.
Guess what ?
You can't play RiME on Wii U.
Have fun with your stubborness about Wii U.
No hardship this being true. This will be a very, very 'meh' game, mark my words. Stood next to ABOTW an even weaker attempt.
I'll skip out on this one PS4 and Switch.
@Anti-Matter No need for that, nothing's false in terms of what he's saying in this case.
Delaying is understandable, but I hope they don't still plan to charge extra for the Switch version in that case
Screw rime
"According to Australian distributor Five Star Games"
Yeah I'll wait for another source.
I'll wait, no big deal. I don't care about the achievements, etc.
I would not buy before, I will not buy now (or later in the case).
I saw all the previews for this game and felt unsure so I guess this will stop me from making an impulse buy (yay?). Let's see how other people like it and if it's worth buying for the Switch.
Seems reasonable to me.
All the doom & gloom & we don't even know if the game is good or not yet. Typical internet reactions of course.
@Anti-Matter There's dozens of comments above saying that this is bad news but you singled me out. And you talked about Wii U. Who said anything about the Wii U?
@ThePoochyKid I'm uninformed, what did Snake Pass and SF do? Were they pushed back?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I usually disagree with you but the game looks very meh. It stinks of mediocrity but for some reason it got a lot of press (maybe for the niceish art style). I'm predicting a 53% on Metacritic
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Why should I heard from them ?
If I have interest with that game, I will consider to buy. Regardless of all the negative comments.
BTW, since you are defending your Wii U too much, when more new Switch games came out, you will probably looking at them with envy but you hide your true feeling with another loathe, keep saying how bad is Switch.
Is the digital version of Rime going to be cheaper than the physical? I think they should do that like with Puyo Puyo Tetris
@RyanSilberman Sadly it won't. It's supposed to cost the same as the physical version. They gave some sort of dumb excuse in an attempt to justify it.
I was excited about this game until I saw the cost. If this delay means that the price will go down, it'll definitely be worthwhile for me.
@Cosats @Ballzilla @Jaredfrogman Snake Pass is missing the Time Trials mode in the Switch version for no good reason. It's objectively inferior to the other versions at the same price.
Street Fighter's price point is insanely high for what it is: a port of a $15 remake of a 25-year-old game with 2 clone characters and some Wii Sports Boxing stuff.
RiME, well, that should be obvious.
Insta-not-buy. Welp. GG. I was set on having this and Disgaea 5 in May to finally put me in a good place with my Switch - but I guess that's no longer on the cards. They lost a purchase. Disgaea 5 will be enough anyway.
I'm holding off on the Switch version. With the Amazon Prime discount, it's not that big a price difference between the Switch and the PS4 version. And I'd rather play on Switch anyway.
Doesn't matter. I was never sold on the game to begin with, but now it's pretty permanently off my radar until it drops to $10 or less.
@ThePoochyKid Thanks for the info, hopefully they'll add that later in a patch. And I don't know about SF. All the game options, online and co-op combined with nostalgia make it a good choice for an early summer game.
@ThePoochyKid didn't know that, but I looked it up, and Ssssoon... https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/63fcgu/snake_pass_time_trial_coming_to_switch_sssoon/
For a rushed port, they are doing good on catching it up to speed
@Jaredfrogman Oh, I did not know about that. Glad to know!
I will be getting the Switch version. It looks like being able to capture the Zelda exploration experience I am enjoying anywhere at the moment.
Will you hold off buying RiME on other formats and wait for the Switch edition?
Yup.
Not gonna buy any game on PS4/X1/PC that's coming to Switch. I want the handheld version and hybrid play.
Plus, it was up on Amazon today for $29.99 ($23.99 with Prime)
I locked in Rime handheld and console version for $23.99... amazing. I'd have paid the $40 ($31.99 with GCU) regardless though. This was icing on the cake
Trololololol! What a poop-fest!
