Remember before the Switch launched and there were rumours of Ubisoft releasing a Mario/Rabbids crossover for the system? Well its surfaced again from known Nintendo leaker Emily Rogers, who has given more details on the supposed 2017 game. In her latest blog post, she responds to a reader question about the unexpected crossover, speaking about having eight playable characters alongside each having their own weapons.
The full blog post reads:
"Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle" has eight playable characters — including Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi — and they each have their own sci-fi weapons, laser guns, arm cannons, etc. But you don't control the characters — you control Tuttorio, a small floating dish, to guide them through the worlds. There is also co-op multiplayer.
Still no word from Nintendo or Ubisoft on the game's existence, yet with E3 now only around the corner could we be seeing a reveal there? Emily Rogers seems to think so pinning the release for August 2017. Until then speculation can only continue.
What do you think to the Mario/Rabbids crossover? Do you think it's likely, and do you even want this to happen?

If it's any good, then this could very well be my first "Rabbids" game, but if it's anything like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, then I'll give it a miss. I'm disappointed that Nintendo would (continuously!) allow their key IP to fraternise with mediocrity (and its ambassador, Sonic), so I'm not exactly filled with confidence at the prospect of another crossover with a brand of mixed repute.
This sounds.....weird. weirder than usual for these companies. If it's real i think we really need to see it to get it. Though i like the sound of a major game for August!
I DON'T WANT THIS
I was hoping for something in the vain of Rabbids Go Home. You don't control them? This is beginning to sound disappointing if true
@sillygostly don't diss the hedgehog!
I can see this being legit but some of the finer points are a bit weird. The name 'Tuttorio' doesn't imply a controllable character
I bet this will be the big Ubisoft title for the launch window on a Nintendo system (like Zombi U). Expecting this to be released around september (and hopefully as good as Rabbids Go Home, the only Rabbids game I can get behind)
I hope this is true but mainly because if this becomes real then the rumors of Smash port and Pokemon on Switch are also real or there is at least more chance of them happening.
Now I hope they don't even dare to say: "this is what Retro Studios has been working for all this time"; because I swear I sell my Switch.
In fact, reading Rogers' blog post a couple of times, it actually sounds quite troll like.
Even if this is a game almost no one wants:
Isn't that what Nintendo does best? Delivering good games that just about no one thought of, wanted, or asked for? Splatoon, ARMS, Super Mario Galaxy (who actually thought about Mario in space?), and more fit this category.
That said, the idea sounds cool, even if I'm not that fond of Rabbids. At least this game gives us multiple playable characters besides Mario or Luigi. Hope this game is good.
Why?
I'm sorry but Mario + Rabbids = PHEW...!
Those Rabbids are killing my interest.
Any better than Rabbids la Fea ?
Perhaps Bugs Bunny...
I'm open minded. A good game has no set appearance or name.
I'll keep my eyes on this rumored game, though, given my dislike of the Rabbids and everything they stand for, I'd wait for reviews before even thinking about buying this game.
Emily Rogers is such an attention ho
It could be praised as the best thing since Super Mario RPG and I'd still ignore it because Ubisoft will never get a penny or ounce of recognition from me.
I would much rather a Mario & Rayman 2D crossover, perhaps done in a similar graphical style to Rayman Origins/Legends. Maybe even go into a warp pipe and then Rayman's in the Mushroom Kingdom.
I will try to give this game a chance (if it even exists) but I can't see myself being very interested. Rabbids are a big no no for me, so they're going to have a very hard time convincing me to buy their game. It will need lots of positive press and reviews.
Need to know a little more about it but usually any game with Mario's name in will have my attention
There's about 100 other cross overs I'd rather see Mario do...but with it being a "Mario" game I'm sure I'll look into it.
I thought this rumor was beyond dead but I guess it's still a thing. Not saying this game would be bad, but I still hope it's not a thing.
The Rabbids were funny for one game: the original back in... wait, 2006? The Rabbids are unbelievably past their prime. Why would Nintendo want to partner with a well past dead franchise? According to sales data on VGChartz, there hasn't been a single Rabbids game that's gotten near the 1 million units shipped mark since the 2006-2009 Wii entries. And the show... well, apparently that still exists.
I guess we'll just have to wait until E3.
Mario with laser guns?
It could be.... but I prefer to wait for E3 and see if it's true. After all, half of the rumors that were flying around before launch haven't been true or have any shred of evidence.
The other four characters are rabbid clones of Mario, Luigi Peach and Yoshi. Don't bother with this one people.
Meanwhile, Mario and Sonic had this roster.
If it's coming so soon why say nothing about it if your either party so late in development?
I doubt this is real. If it is, I'll be surprised, and I'm not sure how it'll turn out...
I wouldn't care what kind of game this would be, don't like rabbids and only mario games I buy are mario kart
I really really hope this isn't real.
@sillygostly To be frank Sonic would be a better candidate to crossover with Mario than rabbids, regardless of Mediocrity mind you, since the both are Gaming giants along with Pac-Man and Mega Man of course
Also had rather a mario and rayman crossover. Maybe he will still appear. Im still curious but the part "you dont control the characters you control tuttario... to guide them" and so on gives me bad vibes for now.
@OrigamiSquirtle Oh stop throwing your toys outta the pram, you don't even know what it is silly.
Emily Rogers is a fraud. Stop reporting her nonsense. She has been thoroughly debunked at this point.
@Spoony_Tech They don't usually give much advance notice for the Mini on the March or Pullmo puzzle games, from the description I'm guessing this is one of those $20 downloads. Maybe the people who made Child of Light at Ubi are making it?
@Dakt August would make it a "launch window" title. When Wii U launched Reggie or somebody said the launch window was 6 months. They may have said that for Switch as well. August would be within 6 months of March 3rd.
Not a fan of rabbits games, and have little to no interest in this title
Hopefully if it's real, it's also good.
I'm still convinced this is a fake rumor that people keep latching onto to make their "leaks" look real. Wasn't it originally supposed to be announced during the January event?
@rjejr Notice how they're not using the term "launch window" with Switch? If they are, they're smarter with its use because that isn't an emphasis and I haven't noticed it. Also, notice how even though they're ports, Nintendo seems a lot smarter this time with the earlier releases? The many people who didn't own a Wii U are experiencing MK 8 for the first time on their Switch. BotW is pretty much a no-brainer since the game launched on both systems at the same time and, again, many people don't own a Wii U to play the game. Sales say that most people bought the game on Switch, as much as some salty Wii U owners who haven't upgraded yet don't want to believe, it's where people are playing the game. Again, yes, they're ports, but Nintendo is doing the early Switch lineup smart. Obviously they can't keep it going forever, but it's still cool that they have arguably started strong from the software standpoint.
One thing's for sure, my early experience with Switch is better than Wii U and the Wii in the same time frame. Most would say that's not a lot, but for me it really is pretty impressive. I loved both consoles in their own regards, and Switch is beating them both if for no other reason than steady early releases and form factor. Anyway, nothing precludes this game from being a quality title, and it'll be interesting to see if this is real.
@rjejr Nah, it's definitely a full title. She only gave snippets of info.
Oh, but wasn't this supposed to be a mario RPG sequel? With the "Minions" of the video game world?
GUYS. THE RABBID'S EYES ARE PURPLE.
THE HAT'S EYES FROM SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY ARE PURPLE.
HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED.
I'd be more excited for this if it wasn't for the Mario & Luigi announcement from yesterday.
I can't wait to beat the everloving lights out of Cackletta once again.
I really hope this rumor comes to be false, but at this point it's pretty much confirmed.
RIP Super Mario RPG series
Is there some kind of recent curse that was bestowed upon the Mario series whenever it involves itself in an RPG? It's been one apathetic game after the next for over 5 years, there's gotta be reason for something like this.
With the recent rumor of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga DX remake swarming around gives me some hope in quickstarting the classic RPG roots, however the idea of Rabbids being in a Super Mario RPG is still a bit unnerving seeing how their popularity and appeal is little to none at this point.
Rabbids? Why? I didn't think they were still remotely popular. Or have ever been remotely popular in Japan. So it would seem very odd.
If this game is actually made, I probably wouldn't get it. However, if it comes out, I at least hope that the rumor about Yoshi having an important role turns out to be true.
"Tuttorio" is not a clever name. Make a good character, not a meta joke.
I've gotta say I'm excited for this if it's actually an RPG or even just one like Child of Light, but it'll feel weird playing a Mario RPG without Treehouse writing. Assuming the UbiArt team is making it.
It's a strangely specific guess which makes me think there's something in it. You never know,it may be good. Rabbids Go Home is proof that a Rabbids game can be good.
Ancel and Miyamoto seems to get along quite well, so I could believe it.
I want Rabbids to die. Don't let this happen Nintendo.
@AlexSora89 "EEYAH-HA-HA-HA!!"
@BraveSonic This isn't a Nintendo game, it's a Ubisoft game.
It's just a weird cross-over that shouldn't happen.
Well, that sounds like a big pass to me.
Would be pleased to have that feeling proven wrong if this rumor actually has some validity to it.
@Menchi187 why would you ignore Nintendo's biggest third-party supporter?
Then watch it lose exclusivity as Ubisoft replace the characters with Kratos and pals for Sony and Banjo Kazooie and pals for Microsoft...
That premise is making this supposed game sound much less appealing.
Mario + laser guns? Really?!? Am I the only one who thinks Nintendo wouldn't want their prize mascot holding a gun (even if a laser)? Admittedly they did let Sega give them rifles in the Olympics, but I can see that getting through cos, you know, it's the Olympics...
Someone check under a bridge, because this woman's been trolled.
Mario with laser guns? Come on.
This sounds really awesome Also for people who doubt this concept, just remember that Zelda now has technology in it. Not to mention Mario has dealt with aliens before via mario and Luigi partners in time.
Yeah-no. I don't believe a word of this. Why is there an article on this? We don't need to quite everything Emily Rogers and Laura Kate Dale say they've seen under the sun.
@MagicEmperor
With a Rabbid-esque "DAAAAAHHHH" thrown in the mix for good measure.
Pfft... More old news. Keep up guys.
Well, if this is true I hope this game turns out alright. Guess we will see at E3?
Can I have an article? I know Nintendo is making a Warriors Orochi style game with all Nintendo themed characters partnered with Koei Tecmo.
I have more credability then these guys you keep spouting about.
@IceClimbers A full title announced in June at E3 on sale in August? That wouldn't overwhelm me with confidence. It's not like August is even a good time to be releasing a game anyway, its back to school. Next thing you'll be telling me the New 2DS XL is real.
@IronMan28 Wow that post got a lot longer on here than my inbox. You ever see The Blob, or Reptilicus?
I dont think Nintendo cares about launch windows, they care about long tails or something. Didnt they launch the N64 w/ 1 or 3 games? But somebody did mention a launch window for Switch, I swear it. Maybe Eurogamer or a Youtuber, but it was out there.

OK, found Reggie, who never says window, but seems to imply its the whole of 2017.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-01-16-reggie-nintendo-switch-launch-day-not-be-all-and-end-all
He probably doesnt want to say "window" after promoting Pikmin 3 was a Wii U launch window title and it released 10 months later in August.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/06/reggie_wii_u_launch_window_is_four_months_long
We don't have a Switch yet, but we have MK8 on Zelda U on Wii U, so we don't really need one. There are only 13m Wii U owners so I dont' have a problem w/ what they are doing, lets me put off a SWitch purchase until a BF sale - I don' tthink they'll drop teh reatil price, but a sale could happen - and probably bundle something.
I got a Wii at launch, we played Wii Sports for a year, so that was great. Got a Wii U when Pikmin 3 released and Target was offering a $50 GC on the $349 deluxe model. Nothing is compelling me to buy a Switch until Mario and XC2. Getting a PS4 for Chirstmas and an Xbox One about a month ago is keeping me busy. Zedla U is keeping my boys very busy.
This female dog again? Can we please stop covering her obviously fake crap?
Can we also not have rumours posted?
Every year in the run up to e3, most of them turn out to be true and every year more and more people are disappointed with the lack of any real news because everything was revealed previously.
And if the only way I can get my post seen it to include a curse, well, so be it....
Fudge!
;p
Ha, made you look!
@Gold_Ranger Watch it. >_>
If this is the kind of game Nintendo is holding off until E3 to showcase, the console will be the next Wii U for sure.
I am not really enthused by this crossover honestly. For all I know it might turn out to be amazing but I'm not that big of a rabbids fan. Personally I'd rather Ubi dip into other titles in there IP catalog but quite frankly with Vivindi breathing down their necks they have bigger problems. Still holding out hope for BG&E2 though...
Why can't we just get Super Mario RPG 2 and celebrate the return of Mallow and Geno???!!!
@dethmart @GamermanReviews : sigh Sonic is to gaming what Fast and Furious is to film or fast food is to… food. It's popular, and a money spinner (for the most part), but it is not a brand that is often associated with quality or longevity (as far as their lasting cultural impact is concerned), and they regurgitate the same core concept from one iteration to the next. The existence of Sonic Mania is quite fitting and sad as it is a reflection of the fact that SEGA themselves have no idea how to move the brand forward, and are limiting themselves to antiquated design/aesthetic choices because that is what the fanbase recalls whenever they think of Sonic's better days. It's stuck in the past and it will never improve at this rate because SEGA is adamant to capitalise on their most recognisable brand, rather than foster concepts that have the potential to grow and evolve. They are doing their brands and their legacy a great disservice. I can understand the popularity of the classics, but frankly, I'm baffled that there is any momentum for new Sonic games at all.
I would also say the same of Pac-Man; a simple and timeless concept which Namco has been all too keen to capitalise on, with absolutely no idea of what to do with the brand, because at the end of the day, when people think of Pac-Man, they think of the arcade classic from 1980, and that core concept has not evolved since. No other Pac-Man game that I can think of has had a lasting impact since (except for perhaps Ms. Pac-Man, which was just a re-skin of the original concept anyway). Mega Man also has a long history, and a lot of potential, but as Capcom have demonstrated time and time again, they'd rather just rehash previous instalments rather than take risks with the brand or invest in new instalments in the franchise (it's been several years since the last new instalment in the franchise).
Nintendo have taken some missteps with Mario over the years, sure, but not to the degree that would cause the brand to fall so, so far in the public's estimation (and this is in reference to instalments in spin-off franchises, especially the more recent instalments in the Mario Tennis series). The core Super Mario Bros. series has pretty much stagnated after the release of Super Mario World (and it would be nice to see a new approach being taken with the core concept should Nintendo release a new instalment in the Super Mario Bros. series going forward), but Nintendo have demonstrated great ambition with the brand with Super Mario 64, Shine, Galaxy and Galaxy 2. 3D Land and 3D World were fantastic, though they played it quite safe, but one cannot denigrate any of these games for a lack of quality and polish, traits that newer Sonic games repeatedly fail to possess. I can barely tolerate the demos of more recent efforts in the Sonic series, let alone fork over money for the privilege.
@sillygostly We get it you hate Sonic for what has become of him, but that doesn't mean that the series itself will keep falling, the issue alone is mostly due to the fact that his get rushed, they have tried new ideas but most of them don't work, and again that's due to the games being rushed and not taken the time to get polished, But Sega has stated back in 2015 when they admitted that they screwed up that all they are going to do is put more focus in quality gaming and giving the developers more time to polish their future games, Sonic Mania may not be what the franchise should be but this is a sign that Sega is playing it safe for the time being whether you like it or not. Besides it's suppose to be an anniversary title.
Rabbids are probably the most annoying thing the gaming industry have ever created
I'm calling BS on this entire rumor until I see it in a nintendo direct. I just don't buy it. I've been wrong before, I was almost certain Ryu wasn't going to be in Smash Bros until I saw the data myself.
@BlueKnight07 You are my Blue Knight in shining armor! I'd love a proper SMRPG 2.
Ah yes the rumoured launch game that came alongside a rumour of Botw being delayed to summer and Mother 3's English release(something this same person has incorrectly said was coming soon for the last couple years).
Why exactly is this person being given a platform? Almost all of the Switch leaks from named sources were wrong and the one right anonymous leaker who revealed the whole line up for the January presentation was called wrong by people including Emily.
Mario crosses over with Sonic and gets a crappy Olympics game.
Mario crosses over with Final Fantasy and gets Monopoly, plus a couple sports games.
Mario crosses over with Spyro, but in the Skylanders series.
I'm not expecting anything amazing here, especially when it's a crossover with
MinionsRabbids.I actually really liked the first Rabbids game. It was a fresh new experience on the Wii with cow throwing and plunger shooting. Have quite fond memories of Rabbids.
Looks like I'm on my own though; most people seem quite turned-off.
As ever, I'll wait for the announcements before writing it off completely. You never know.
Lol, Emily Rogers at it again?! "yeah, but this time its true, seriously". Yeah right...
Sounds odd but I never write off a weird Nintendo idea until I've seen it in action
@sillygostly Rabbids Go Home on the Wii was actually decent.
@18wonders : No arguments here. My brother had that and it was pretty good from whatever little I had seen of it, but as I've mentioned before, the brand as a whole is of mixed repute. The Wii games were generally good, but the offerings on Wii U and 3DS seemed mediocre at best.
That's awfully specific, for a rumor.
I like the Rabbids as characters but I have noticed their games don't have the best track record. Maybe if Nintendo helps develop the game, it will have a chance.
@Angelic_Lapras_King That is a legit possibility.
No.
@OrigamiSquirtle
Lol we dont even know if the game is real and how it will turn out. Jusy wait till the game is revealed (if its real)
Didn't this used to be an RPG? Now it is a space alien game where you don't control the characters directly? Make up your mind, Emily, you can't have it both ways.
I am sure there is a Mario/Rabbids game. It may even release in August. But I am 100% sure Emily Rogers is full of crap.
