Re: Tiny Hands Adventure Aims To Give Yooka-Laylee A Run For Its 3D Platforming Money On Switch

onex

I don't really play games like these anymore, so this isn't for me, but if the dev reads this comment, here are my suggestions:

-Rethink that character design. You need a likeable character, especially if you're expecting to be staring at the same avatar for long durations. Increase pupil size, make the head larger and more rounded.

-The jumping looks so floaty. I'm not playing the game, so I can't say for sure, but the character's movement looks way too slow. This would work if the character was a huge, hulking creature, but he's supposed to be a runt it seems. Increase his movement speed.

Good luck to the developers. If they're serious about making games, they need to take everything into consideration.

Re: NES Classic Mini Outsold Modern Video Game Hardware In The Month Of June

onex

@Ralizah Tbh, this is what I appreciate most about these mini-consoles. Let the lesser known developers have their spotlight. Keep them happy, and they're more likely to hold your device in higher regard when they see how they benefit.

I feel like their plan going forward is to build tight relationships with the best indie devs out there, and let them become Nintendo's 3rd party support for the future.

Re: Pre-Order Overcooked 2 Now And Receive Exclusive Characters At Launch

onex

@Joker13z True, they are cosmetic, but still fun characters and add to the game's charm. :/

@MoonKnight7 That's a bit worse tbh. Basically, if you don't preorder, you're not getting the full game, and have to pay extra if you wait. It's not like these "bonuses" were created after launch. It's day one DLC disguised as a preorder bonus.

Re: Pre-Order Overcooked 2 Now And Receive Exclusive Characters At Launch

onex

So, you mean to tell me that if I don't preorder, there's no way to unlock the extra chefs in-game? Man, this reeeeeeaally rubs me the wrong way.

I can't preorder as the funds don't allow for game spending for a while, so I may as well just wait for a sale since I won't be getting all the goodies anyway. 😒

Re: Mario Kart VR Will Launch In The UK This Summer

onex

@Savino Perhaps the next iteration of the Switch will have VR capabilities. I mean, the joy-con are perfect VR controllers, as evidenced by their use in ARMS. I hope it's where they head with the tech.

Mario Kart VR is the killer app VR needs to go mainstream.

Re: Ubisoft Says Reggie Fils-Aimé Is To Thank For Star Fox's Inclusion In Starlink: Battle For Atlas

onex

@Agramonte speak for yourself. I think it's pretty cool you can change your load out physically, on the fly. The added Star Fox content looks like great fun. It also has planet hopping like No Man's Sky, except the difference here is there are actual missions to partake on the planets instead of searching for procedurally generated nonsense. Should be a blast for those who pick it up.

I'm on the fence because limited funds and Red Dead Redemption 2 being so close to StarLink... it all depends on how bad those microtransactions potentially mar my cowboy antics. 😡

That said, StarLink is still certainly on my radar and many others'.

Re: Review: Inside (Switch eShop)

onex

@LegendOfPokemon Maybe because this isn't the Twilight Zone where everyone has the exact same setup?
Maybe some people only have a laptop that isn't used for gaming, a PS4 with limited space, and a Switch with plenty of space, plus the added bonus of being portable? Maybe this version isn't for you? Maybe not every iteration of a product needs to cater to every single consumer in the universe, because it doesn't, and that would be silly to think otherwise?

Re: Review: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Switch)

onex

@lillith The "Switch tax" has less to do with the cost of the cartridges, and more to do with companies using the system's portability as an excuse to justify the price. To the publisher, the consumer is getting 2 games - one on home console, one on the go. It sucks, but that's capitalism for ya.

Regarding gyro aiming, it's essentially the control style preferred for games like Splatoon. You still use the right analog for your camera, but with added gyro support, you can get much better precision. So head shots are easier without having to tap, tap, tap the right stick. It's so easy to "overtap", but with gyro, you can just move/tilt your controller ever so slightly which affords more finesse.

Re: Review: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Switch)

onex

@Shellcore Don't forget gyro aiming. This is a huge factor for many Switch owners when it comes to console FPS. DOOM looks great on PS4, but it's a chore to play without gyro aiming. Good to see it's available on Wolf as well.

Re: Fortnite's 'Playground' Mode Is Imminent, Set To Offer A Very Different Way To Play

onex

@20wonders A few pointers - pick an area of the map that may not be as populated as, say, Tilted Towers. Like a remote cabin or something that isn't in a named area.
When dropping from the bus, aim directly down so you can land as quickly as possible, then glide in the direction you're heading when it automatically brings out your glider.
This one even I struggle with, but it's paramount - when taking hits, immediately start building walls first. Don't try to shoot back right away unless you have a really powerful weapon and a clear shot. Even then, it's best to build first - shoot later. At least until you're comfortable with both. Good luck!

Re: Mutant Football League Switch Gameplay Hits The Field, Looks Absolutely Brutal

onex

@SmaggTheSmug To be fair, when watching the actual sport in person - and to a lesser extent, at home on TV - the audience doesn't see those tables, and the turns aren't as broken up. The team captain(quarterback) has all of the plays ready, relays them to his teammates, and they go through the plays fairly quickly... that is until one of the teams causes a penalty flag, then it can drag on forever...

Re: Mutant Football League Switch Gameplay Hits The Field, Looks Absolutely Brutal

onex

@Laxeybobby It's actually a very simple game made to look complex. Two teams of 11 take turns moving an oval shaped ball down the field to the "end-zone" to score 6 points, by either running the ball or throwing to a receiver who then runs the ball, all while the opposing team attempts to stop them. If they make it, they get a chance to either kick the ball through the tuning fork thing ("goalpost") for an extra point, or attempt another play to the end-zone for 2 points. If they succeed at either, their drive ends and they kick the ball down field to the other team. If they fail, their drive ends, and the other team starts their drive in the opposing direction from the yard line of failure("line of scrimmage").They have 4 chances("downs") to make it, but if they accumulate 10 yards, they get another set 4 downs("1st and 10"). If they can't make it to 10 yards by the 4th down, there's the option to punt the ball down the field for the opposing team to start their set of downs("drive") in the opposite direction, fake a punt which is a rare and risky decision, attempt another play if they are close enough to the end-zone(or are desperate for a new set of downs), or attempt a field goal worth 3 points - which entails a teammate kicking the ball through the goalpost - this play only works if the kicker is good enough or the team is close enough to the end-zone at 4th down. Meanwhile, the coordinators from the sidelines are engaged in a game of strategy trying to figure out which play the other team is going to attempt, to hopefully thwart the opposition's efforts.

TL;DR - American Football is essentially an overly complicated game of backwards Tug-O-War with an egg ball, and the sponsors use all of the breaks in between plays to bombard our country with advertisements - usually for beer, junk food, automobiles, and more recently, video games.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st June (North America)

onex

@Krull @Aaron 09 don't you mean 10? Add Bayonetta 1/2, DK Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors DE, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, and Super Mario Party to that list.
Or are you only counting non-ports? Then you still forgot Mario Party, but I think the others should count considering how low an install base the WiiU had.

Re: Nintendo Is Open To Dropping The 'Direct' Approach At Future E3 Events

onex

Why not all 3? I'd like to see them present themselves live, with Reggie walking on stage, being Reggie, spinning a yarn about Nintendo philosophy - really ham it up, and hint at what will be shown.

Then he asks the audience to sit back for a live viewing of a 20 minute long sizzle reel(Nintendo direct style), so those watching at home feel included in the energy and excitement at the presentation. Have a few guests walk out and talk about their future projects, even if all they have is a few development screenshots.

Immediately after the live show, Reggie tells the crowd and viewers at home that a few of the games shown have demos available at the close of the show. Leave the surprise for everyone to check the eShop on their own.
Keep in mind, the Online service will be active as well, so they could easily drop some new, hot retro games as another surprise or two. This could easily be their best presentation ever with such a "for the fans" format.

Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé Hits Back At Analysts After Recent Share Price Drop

onex

There are all kinds of games coming, and anyone who has been following Nintendo the last 5 years knows how they operate. E3 is like an obligation at this point and nothing more. And I totally get it, because we live in a 24 hr news cycle. Why put all your eggs in the E3 basket? Look at Sony. How many times have they shown Death Stranding, Spiderman, and Days Gone(from the developers of Busby 3d, guys..)? They've mastered the art of leading their fanbase on, which they can afford because of their 3rd party support. Meanwhile, Nintendo shows mostly games you'll have BEFORE XMAS! They don't build hype for years because our attention spans are so low now they can have the same impact in a few months time. Metroid Prime 4 was just a logo. How far along do you think it is? I'm betting holiday 2020. Next year is for Pokemon.
My only complaint is their organization on the eShop. If you're relying on top indies for 3rd party support, it would behoove you to make them more visible among the garbage.

Re: Move Over Micro Machines, Scalextric Is Zooming Onto Switch Next Week

onex

@aaronsullivan And people wonder why they can't trust sites like IGN. At least he's being honest with his score. How is refusing more games to review after receiving a bad score not unprofessional? In fact, this trailer here screams scumbag anyway, to think anyone would bother with this shovelware. Slot racing was cool... for 5 yr olds in the 60s. This is a disgrace of a video game, so the more I know about this dev's business practices besides, the more I know to steer clear of his products.

Re: Dataminer Finds Fortnite Update in Switch eShop

onex

@Tank207 ikr? They have gyro capabilities in their controllers, yet it seems they only did that just to say "me too" in response to the Wii U. It's a shame because properly implemented gyro is leaps and bounds above the typical analog setup.

Re: Fallout 76 Straps On Its Pip-Boy With A Mysterious Teaser Trailer

onex

@diablo2 It's a shame really, because I think games like COD could use some innovation the Switch provides. Obviously not in the graphic department, but the control schemes afforded by the Switch are leaps above the standard analog setup. AAA companies are completely content with churning out the same thing with a shinier lick of paint though, which is truly sad for the industry. At least indies (and Bethesda to an extent) take risks.

Re: A Cheaper, Customisable 'Nintendo Switch 2nd Set' Has Launched In Japan Without A Dock

onex

"Blah blah blah price blah blah not for me blah blah boo hoo"

Yeah, it's NOT FOR YOU people. This makes perfect sense for Japan. Since they most likely only use their docks for charging in between on-the-go gaming sessions, selling a 2nd Switch without a charger is OK. Hell, it's not like they haven't done this before with the 3DS.

This probably wouldn't fly outside of Japan, though.

Re: Video: Resident Evil 7 Cloud Brings Both Good and Bad to Nintendo Switch

onex

How is this any different from going to a cinema to watch the latest movie for $15 ?
You don't own that viewing you just had, yet you don't complain about spending the money - unless of course you didn't enjoy the film. THIS IS THE SAME!

I think as long as the costs are reasonable and the streaming capabilities can keep up with latency, this will be completely fine in the future.

Physical media is a thing of the past, folks. It's only a matter of time before consoles all become fully fledged streaming devices. This thing Capcom is doing will test the waters. If it fails, then we know it's too soon to work out. But eventually, Netflix for games (or Games On Demand(NOWtendo? Lol)) will be the norm.

Re: Review: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (Switch)

onex

This review fails to mention that they added the ability - I assume from Fire Emblem Warriors - to switch between 4 different characters during battle. I feel this changes things up a good bit from the Wii U version, plus there are now NINE (maybe 10?) Adventure Mode maps instead of four. Will definitely be picking this up Friday for some good ol' co-op with the gf.

Re: Swery65's The Good Life Will Come To Switch, But Only If It Hits $800K By The End Of The Day

onex

After Road Redemption, A Hat In Time, Project CARS, and many others used Wii U as a means to con buyers into supporting their system, only to fall silent or flat out lie, saying they never intended to put it on the system fans gave them their money to create, nobody should EVER support a crowdfunded game with a console port stretch goal. Either include it in the initial goal, or not at all. These practices have painted crowdfunding in a very negative light thanks to these schmucks.
