Re: Ultimate Fishing Simulator Reels In A Release On Switch In Q1 2019

onex

@NightBeast To me, fishing is another excuse to go out drinking with a couple of pals. So if drinking isn't a hobby you enjoy (I don't), you probably will find fishing to be a boring waste of time. My cousin loves it though. Gets up at 5am in frigid weather just to do it all day. But he loves to drink, so yeah. At least there is the potential for some healthy protein after all is said and done? Lol something you can't quite achieve from a computer simulation however.

Re: Nintendo Shares First Details, Release Date And Screenshots Of Fitness Boxing, A Switch Exclusive

onex

Lord, that soundtrack is abysmal. Sure, you cold turn down the music and play your own, but I bet these songs are implemented with rhythm based movement, rendering the whole single player game useless. Ugh.

Sounded like a good idea anyway. I like the concept of using the Joy-Con to show off their advanced motion tracking. Maybe another dev will come along and give us a more traditional boxing experience akin to the old Heavyweight Legends games on Sega systems, albeit with motion control. One can dream.

Re: Video: Super Mario Party's Online Mode Is A Real Party Pooper

onex

Downloading it later tonight for a videogame party. I was torn between physical or digital, but ultimately opted for the latter as I couldn't bring myself to preorder at GameStop, and Amazon no longer does their discount. I figure it's a Mario Party game, so I doubt I'll be trading it in anyway.

Sucks to hear about the online I guess? I don't care much. I don't have NSO, and don't plan on it for a while. Will see how it pans out in a year or so.

Re: Pirated Copies Of Super Mario Party Appear Online, Switch Piracy Concerns Continue To Grow

@HobbitGamer It's all good, dude. I understand my ways don't align with others. I've chilled out about it.
These are just silly comments on a webpage billions of people will never see nor know about, so there's no reason any of us should get our panties in a bunch over freaking video game news.

I guess I was cranky from being sleep deprived, but I realize how foolish it was to even bother interjecting. Carry on.

Re: Pirated Copies Of Super Mario Party Appear Online, Switch Piracy Concerns Continue To Grow

@c2017nlifemedia I understand why you justify such actions that way. I can respect that, however that's not how I choose to operate. I show the artist appreciation whichever way I can. If I download an album early and enjoy it, I buy it when it releases, or go to a show and buy merch(no downloading anymore since streaming platforms are the norm). If I want to see a movie, I go to the theatre and pay admission(or Netflix/Hulu/Prime etc, again streaming platforms). If I want to play a game, I search for reviews or download a demo if available, and buy the game if it favored well with my concerns... maybe wait for a sale if budget's tight. But I want the artists to know I appreciate their efforts, and as a consumer, that's done by paying a fee for the pleasure of experience.

Slightly off topic, but if the previously mentioned trends are anything to go by, the future of gaming media will be streaming regardless. And I feel NSO is a test water for Nintendo to start providing full game streaming, so they won't even have to worry so much about pirated games in the long run.

Re: Pirated Copies Of Super Mario Party Appear Online, Switch Piracy Concerns Continue To Grow

onex

@Trajan It's not ignorance!

Do you see SPIN, Metal Hammer, Kerrang! (just a few examples of popular magazines) going on and on about the availability of artist's music through devious means?
No, they leave that out of their content because it's unnecessary spotlight, and frankly disrespectful to the artists.

Pirates ALREADY know where to look. They didn't discover it reading a magazine or an online article(other than an article on a ROM site). It's spread through word of mouth. Why? Because piracy is considered a sector of the "dark web". I fail to see how shining a light on this topic on a game site supposedly not condoning the act is in ANY WAY helpful, unless it is a ROM news site dedicated to pirated wares.

Re: Pirated Copies Of Super Mario Party Appear Online, Switch Piracy Concerns Continue To Grow

onex

@UmbreonsPapa You're completely omitting the part where I stated there are those that have no clue that piracy of certain games, this one in particular, is even an option.
I know you can Google for it, you know you can Google for it. Not every single visitor of this site knows it's an option they have. By providing an article highlighting it exists, it provides a window for knowledge of Switch piracy to spread. Homebrew? Yeah, OK. Grey area. News on outright piracy? Not cool.

But hey, I'm just a self-righteous white knight in a sea of audacious thieves. A few of my friends pirate ROMs all day without hesitation, but as an artist, I understand its effects. I'm that weirdo who used to download music illegally, then purchase the physical media to support the artist. Or even go to a show to purchase their CD, be told they're sold out, and notify the guitarist at the merch table I'd be downloading their music illegally when I get home, but wanted them to have 20 bucks anyway when the CD cost 15. True story. I'm certain 99% of the Neo's out there wouldn't do such a thing.. especially in the gaming sphere. That's not the point.

The damage is done, and NL is an instigator.

Re: Nintendo "Looking At" VR Technology, But It "Has To Be Fun" Before Being Implemented

onex

@impurekind I can attest to this as well. My cousin brought his PSVR to a party I had once, and everyone got to try out Until Dawn Rush Of Blood. We all had a fun time playing it. I noticed the screen's res being low, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment.

If you're too busy being concerned with technicalities to have a good time, you're doing it wrong.

..Unless it's causing motion sickness, then that's a bummer. Or you can just take some Dramamine.

Re: Nintendo "Looking At" VR Technology, But It "Has To Be Fun" Before Being Implemented

onex

@impurekind Actually, we dealt with 480i for a decade or so before progressive scan even became mainstream, which reinforces your point.

I think Switch is the perfect device for VR once it receives a couple revisions. 1) High screen res, and it doesn't need to be that high - I think 2160p (1080 x 2) would work just fine. 2) Add gyro detection to the screen portion of the system for head tracking.

The modular nature of the Switch means cost of entry for VR is ridiculously reasonable. The Joy-Con are already perfect for most VR experiences, so they could essentially put out a VR upgrade SKU for those who already own dock and Joy-Con for far less an asking price than a whole system set. Launch with Mario Kart VRoom!(even a remake of MK7 would work! The 1st person view was brilliant!) and watch VR take off. Guaranteed.

Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé On Why The Switch Uses A Mobile App For Voice Chat

onex

It's too bad Reggie can't outright tell the truth, as it would look bad in the press, but at least the consumers could accept an honest answer and not some silly PR spin that justifies nothing other than stubbornness, which isn't even the reality of the situation. The Switch has a fast UI because it doesn't have numerous background apps bogging down the processor. Yes, Fortnite has built-in Voice Chat, but that's Epic's doing. There is nothing stopping other 3rd party devs from doing the same if they so choose.

I fully understand why Nintendo is handling Voice Chat in this manner, however there is much improvement needed. As others have already pointed out, the phone app would be fine if it functioned more like Discord. Allow party chats for crying out loud. That should be the simplest feature to implement, and would relieve so much bickering. I mean, you could also just use Discord, but whatever.

Lastly, could we get some folders and sorting options already??

Re: Feature: Remembering Super Mario 128, The Groundbreaking Masterpiece That Never Really Existed

onex

After watching the video, it's clear the core concept became Pikmin. Lo and behold further down the article, that ended up being the case.

Miyamoto has stated before the reason they don't make new IPs left and right is due to the gameplay they devise not requiring new characters, until it does. It seems he couldn't figure out how Mario 128 would make sense as a Mario game, thus Pikmin was born.

Re: Random: Is The Bowsette Movement Finally Over? Guitarist Rosalina Is Your Next Obsession

onex

I don't see any of this as a negative thing. The Bowsettes, Booettes, and Guitarist Roslinas are beautiful creations from the many artists out there looking for a muse, any reason to pick up a brush. It shouldn't be looked at as perverse or deranged in any way. These artists are freely expressing themselves, and Nintendo characters are responsible for the inspiration. How is that not awesome on so many levels? It certainly beats the barrage of deep fried memes and politically charged art we've been subjected to the past few years.

Re: Subdivision Infinity DX Is A 3D "Next-Gen" Sci-Fi Space Shooter Headed To Nintendo Switch

onex

@Filbert_Wang @DualMask

To its credit, it uses the Unreal engine, and is also coming to XB1 and PS4. So something tells me when they call it DX they truly mean it is a deluxe version.

My only concern is the mission structure. I don't have an issue with mobile origins. A good game is a good game, even from mobile. They've made great strides over the years, so you shouldn't count out the format. I enjoy Manticore for what it is. Had a blast with it on my first few plays. However, the gameplay loop grew a bit stale. Boss fight, escort, dogfight, race, rinse repeat. My favorite part of the game was the exploration(which regretfully showed how limited the stages were). That said, the missions weren't terrible idea, they just need better structure. Hopefully, this game can deliver in that regard and good controls, then it may well be worth admission. It certainly looks shinier than Manticore, although Everspace is right around the corner as well, which looks phenomenal.

Re: Rumour: Switch Firmware Update 6.0.0 Seems To Limit User Upload Speeds

onex

@aiden0309 That has nothing to do with upload speed. Download speed remains unaffected. Your cloud streaming should remain just fine.

Had this been a cap on Capcom's or Ubi's upload speed, then yes, there would be an issue. However, your Switch is not the host; download speed should be your only concern, which again, remains unaffected.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th September (North America)

onex

@SmaMan I honestly feel like that is their whole aim with the system. They know they can't compete with other platforms on a graphical level, but The Switch can become the preferred device by millions of gamers for older titles they missed over the years. It's a perfect fit for them and their old school sensibilities imo.
